자녀가 누릴 Vessel (행23:11)
서론
유대인들이 후대에게 전하는 메세지가 아주 강력하다. 어느 날 아주 영리한 여우가 물고기가 먹고싶어서 바닷가로 갔다. 그래서 꾀를 냈다. 물고기들에게 외쳤다. “물고기 여러분 어부들이 지금 당신들을 잡으러 오고 있습니다. 바닷속은 위험하니까 빨리 땅으로 나오세요. 물속에서는 큰 고기들이 여러분들을 괴롭히지 않습니까. 빨리 땅으로 나와서 우리와 함께 삽시다.” 이 이야기를 들은 물고기들이 회의를 했다. “여우의 말이 맞는거 같다. 빨리 나가서 땅에서 살자” 하는 주장도 있었다. 한 편에서는 “바다가 위험하긴 하지만 지금까지 잘 살아왔지 않느냐 그냥 살자” 주장하는 고기도 있었다. 쉽사리 결론이 나지 않았다. 한참동안 회의를 하고 물고기들이 결정을 했다. 땅에 나가지 말고 바다에서 살기로 결정했다. 물고기 대표가 찾아가서 얼굴을 내밀고 이야기했다. “우리를 생각해준 것은 고맙지만 우리는 물에서 살겠다”고 했다.
이 얘기는 여러분이 들으신 적이 있을지도 모르겠다. 이 이야기는 유대인들이 식탁에서 자식들에게 꼭하는 이야기라고 한다. 한 번만 하는 것이 아니라 계속 얘기를 들려준다고 한다. 이 이야기를 들려준 후에 자식들에게 질문을 한다. 물고기가 땅에서 나오면 어떻게 되지? 그러면 아이들이 땅에 나오면 말라죽게 되죠 한다. 그 때 아버지가 이야기한다. 그렇다 유대인은 유대인으로 살아야지 아무리 유혹이 많다고 하더라도 유대인의 신분을 버리게 되면 말라죽게 될 것이다. 어릴 때 부터 부모들은 유대인으로서 지키면서 살 것을 은연중에 심어주고 있는 것이다. 그 어린 마음 속에 나는 유대인으로서의 신분과 사상을 지키고 살아야겠다 하는 것이 각인되도록 계속 심어준다. 참 무서운 사상이다. 그 어린 아이에게 유대인의 사상을 심어주고 있는 것이다. 유대인들이 하나님을 믿는 믿음을 심어주는 것이 아니라 사상을 심어주고 있다는 사실이다. 이것 때문에 그리스도로 돌아오기가 그렇게 힘든 것이다.
저는 이것을 보면서 우리 렘넌트들에게 정확한 복음을 심어주는 것이 얼마나 중요한가를 생각해본다. 우리가 분명히 심어주어야할 것은 예수님은 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이시라는 사실이다. 예수님께서 사단의 세력을 완전히 깨뜨리신 만왕의 왕 되신 분임을 심어줘야한다. 뿐만 아니라 죄와 사망 가운데서 죽을 수 밖에 없는 우리를 위해서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가셔서 죄의 문제를 완전히 해결해주신 참 제사장이시라는 것을 심어줘야한다. 또 하나님 떠나서 고통과 재앙 가운데서 살 수 밖에 없는 우리에게 하나님 만나는 길을 열어주신 참 선지자 되시는 예수님이시다. 우리가 주님을 붙들게 되면 우리의 모든 문제가 완전히 해결될 수 있다는 것을 확실히 심어주어야 한다. 하나님의 아들되신 그리스도께서 친히 이 땅에 오셔서 우리를 위해서 모든 문제를 해결하신 것은 하나님의 크신 은혜다 하는 것을 심어주어야겠다. 우리가 이 복음 밖에서 산다 하게되면 정말로 물고기가 땅에 나가서 사는 것 처럼 메말라 죽을 수 밖에 없다. 성경을 보게되면 성경의 모든 내용이 바로 너희들 그리스도를 제대로 알아라 하는 내용이다. 또 하나님께서는 복음을 전하는 사람들을 귀하게 여기면서 이 복음을 정말로 제대로 전해라 하는 말씀을 주셨다. 오늘 말씀에서도 그것을 발견할 수 있다.
1. 담대하라
1) 바울 곁에 서서
행23:11그날 밤에 주께서 바울 곁에 서서 이르시되—
주님께서 친히 사도바울 옆에 찾아오셔서 말씀하셨다. 우리가 사도행전 7장을 보면 스데반이 순교할 때 하나님 보좌 우편에서 예수님께서 서신 것을 보았다고 기록한다. 우리는 주님께서 부활, 승천하셔서 하나님 보좌 우편에 계시는구나 알 수 있다. 그런데 보좌 우편에만 계신 줄 알았더니 지금 사도바울 옆에 서계신다. 주님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 친히 나타나신 것은 이 말씀 뿐만이 아니다. 사도행전 9장 5절을 보면 사도바울이 다메섹에 예수 믿는 사람을 잡으러 가는 도중에 빛 가운데서 예수님을 만나는 사건이 나온다. 사울아 사울아 외치니까 누구십니까 했다. 나는 네가 핍박하는 예수라. 보좌에 계신 분이 친히 나타나셔서 사도바울에게 보이셨다. 주님께서는 이렇게 친히 나타나실 때가 있다. 그런데 언제 이렇게 급하게 나타나셔서 보이시는가. 이방인, 특히 세계복음화에 방향을 맞출 때 모든 관심을 가지시고 나타나신다. 사도바울을 부르실 때 너를 이방인을 위한 사도로 부르셨다고 말씀하셨다. 하나님 보좌 우편에 계신 주님의 최고 관심이 이방인 구원에 있다는 것을 볼 수 있다. 오늘 말씀에서도 네가 이방, 로마에가서 복음을 전해야할 것이라고 말씀하신다. 저는 지금 우리 다론 집사가 난민촌에 가서 복음을 전하는 것을 보면서 하나님이 선하게 인도하고 계시는 것을 본다. 하나님께서 얼마나 기뻐하시겠는가. 가는 발길 조차도 기뻐하실 줄 믿는다. 이번 달에 교인 전체가 전도할 때는 거기에 가서 전도하기로 결정을 했다. 오늘 예수님께서 나타나셔서 사도바울에게 얘기할 때 거기서 어떤 내용을 갖고 증거하야할 것인가도 말씀해주신다.
2) 로마에서도 증언
행 23:11 -- 네가 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증거한 것 같이 로마에서도 증거하여야 하리라 하시니라
사도바울에게 가서 신학을 얘기하라고 하신게 아니다. 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증언한 것 처럼 로마에서도 똑같이 나의 일을 증언하라는 말씀이다. 당시 로마 상황은 어떤가. 전 세계의 우상 숭배의 중심지였다. 그리스에서 섬기던 수 많은 신들을 다 자기 문화로 받아들여서 자기 신들과 합쳐서 많은 신들을 섬겼다. 로마는 사단의 소굴이었다. 거기서 복음을 증거하라는 것은 그것을 무너뜨리라는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 당시 로마는 전 세계의 타락의 중심지였다. 얼마나 성적으로 타락하고 부패했는지는 이루 말할 수 없었다. 로마서 1장을 보게되면 그 때도 동성애가 있었다. 폼페이가 화산재로 덮여서 완전히 멸망 당했다. 폼페이가 타락에 극에 달했던 지역이었다. 제가 폼페이에 갔었다. 11키로미터 떨어진 바다를 지난 산이 터져서 폼페이를 정조준해서 떨어졌다. 포를 쏴서 정확시 11키로를 맞추기도 힘들다. 그런데 화산이 날라와서 폼페이를 재로 덮어버렸다. 저는 그 현장을 보고 하나님의 진노가 극심했구나 하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 왠만하면 그냥 화산재가 와서 좀 죽고 잔재는 남아있다. 그런데 현장 가니까 도시 자체가 완전히 화산재로 덮여서 도시보다 높아서 시 전체가 하나도 안보였다. 천 몇백년이 지나서 농부가 땅을 파다보니까 기둥같은게 나왔다. 파보니까 옛 날 도시가 나타나게 된 것이다. 그 속에 살던 사람은 한 명도 살지 못하고 다 죽었다는 말이다. 뿐만 아니라 로마는 전 세계를 다니면서 모든 나라를 점령했다. 주권을 다 뺴았았다. 모든 사람을 짐승처럼 사용했다. 죄를 짓게되면 짐승들을 때리는 못이 달린 가죽 채찍으로 때려서 꼼짝 못하게 만들었다. 예수님께서는 사도바울에게 네가 예루살렘에서 증거한 것 처럼 로마에서도 증거해야한다고 하셨다. 이들을 살릴 수 있는 것은 복음밖에 없다 그래야 저들이 살 수 있다 하는 것을 말씀하신 것이다. 그런데 내용이 예루살렘에서 전한 것과 같이 나의 일을 똑같이 전해야한다고 하신다. 거기가서 다른 말을 전하는 것이 아니라 나의 일, 내가 그리스도라는 사실을 전하라는 말이다. 왜냐하면 그리스도만이 가능하기 때문이다.
히 13:8 예수 그리스도는 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 동일하시니라
2천년 전 로마에서나 당시 예루살렘에서나 지금이나 마찬가지로 예수는 그리스도라는 것이 증거되야한다. 이 말씀 붙들고 승리하시기 바란다. 오직 살릴 수 있는 길은 예수가 그리스도라는 것을 증거하는 것이다.
2. 성도가 속고 있는 현장
1) 주님께 맡기는 신앙
저는 지금 현장에 나가서 말씀을 전하면서 실제 신앙생활한다고 하면서도 속고있는 것이 많은 것을 발견한다. 한 분은 얘기하는데 자기 아들이 게임 중독과 깊은 우울증에 빠져서 도무지 제대로 활동을 못한다고 했다. 이 분이 자기 아들을 구원하기 위해서 7년동안 별 기도를 다 했다고 했다. 그런데 전혀 차도는 느낄 수 없고 점점 심해지는 것 같다는 것이다. 지금 어떻게하고 계십니까 하고 물었다. 그냥 저는 주님께 다 맡겼습니다 했다. 주님께 맡기고 어떻게 하고 있습니까 했다. 주님께 다 맡겼으니까 나는 모르죠 했다. 주님께 맡긴다는 것이 뭔가 좋은 것 같은데 사실을 포기했다는 것이다. 주님께서 치료 시켜주시는지 안시켜주시든지 모르겠다는 것이다. 저는 이 이야기를 여러사람에게 들었다.
벧전5:7-8 너희 염려를 다 주께 맡겨 버리라 이는 저가 너희를 권고하심이니라. 8 근신하라 깨어라 너희 대적 마귀가 우는 사자 같이 두루 다니며 삼킬 자를 찾나니
주님께 맡기면 끝나는 것이 아니라 근신하라 깨어라 너희 대적 마귀가 우는 사자 같이 두루 다니며 삼킬 자를 찾는다고 하셨다. 그를 위해서 힘써 기도하라는 얘기다. 주님께 맡긴다는 것은 빌 4:6-7을 말하는 것이다.
빌4:6-7 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라. 7 그리하면 모든 지각에 뛰어난 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라
주여, 나는 내 아들을 변화시킬 수 없습니다 하고 주님앞에 고백하는 것이다. 나는 아무 힘도 없고 능력도 없고 아무것도 할 수 없으니까 주께서 도와주세요 하는 것이다. 그러면 주님께서 너희 마음과 생각을 지켜주실 것이라고 한다. 그러므로 우리가 주님께서 주신 힘에 입어서 기도하는 것이다. 이러면 이렇게 된다.
얍4:7 그런즉 너희는 하나님께 복종할지어다 마귀를 대적하라 그리하면 너희를 피하리라
2) 옛 틀에 무감각
또 어떤 분과 얘기를 하다가 이런 말을 들었다. 구원받은 사람들에게는 절대 귀신이 역사하지 못하지 않습니까 했다. 하나님의 자녀가 되고 성령이 들어왔는데 어떻게 귀신이 나한테 역사할 수 있습니까 했다. 맞는 말 같은데 완전히 맞지는 않다. 죄에는 속성이 있다. 죄에는 두가지가 있다. 하나는 죄책이라는 것이 있고 두번째는 오염이라는 것이 있다. 죄책이라는 것은 죄에대한 책임을 말한다. 네가 선악과를 먹는 날에는 정녕 죽으리라 하는 말씀이 있었기 때문에 먹는 순간에 영혼이 죽어버렸다. 그러나 이 땅에 살면서 인간이 죄에 오염되고 부패된 심성이 있다. 예수님을 영접하는 순간에 하나님의 자녀가 되는 순간에 우리는 모든 죄에서 해방된다. 죄에 대한 책임, 사형에서 생명으로 인도가 되는 것이다. 마귀의 자녀에서 하나님 자녀가 된 것이다. 그러나 분명한 것은 구원을 받았음에도 우리 가운데 죄에 오염되고 부패된 것이 남아있다. 예수님을 영접해도 그것까지는 변화되지 않는다. 하나님의 자녀가 되어도 옛 틀은 그대로 남아있다는 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 날마다 예배드리고 찬양드리고 말씀 공부를 하면서 점점 새로워져야한다.
빌 1:6 너희 속에 착한 일을 시작하신 이가 그리스도 예수의 날까지 이루실 줄을 우리가 확신하노라
천국가는 그날까지 성령께서 우리를 성화시켜나가신다. 성화되어 나가는 것은 예수님 영접하고 가만히 있는다고 되는 것이 아니다.
벧전 2:2 갓난 아기들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 그로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라
신령한 양식을 날마다 먹으면서 자라게 된다. 지금 우리 교단에서 많은 무당들이 주님 앞에 돌아왔다. 들어보면 많은 사람들이 또 무당으로 돌아갔다고 한다. 왜 그런가. 예수님을 영접했음에도 불구하고 옛틀을 타고 들어오는 흑암을 이기지 못한 것이다. 우울증 걸리는 사람들 예수님을 영접하는 순간 우울증이 치유되는 것을 본다. 그런데 어느 정도 지나면 다시 또 재발된다. 그러므로 우리는 항상 그리스도를 붙잡아야할 줄로 믿는다. 항상 주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이십니다 하는 고백이 있어야 한다. 이 그리스도가 나의 그리스도가 되도록 체험이 되어야한다. 그렇게 될 때 나를 통해서 교회가 세워지고 흑암 권세가 이기지 못하고 천국 열쇠가 주어지게 된다. 이 축복을 누리게되면 영원히 문제가 해결된다. 그러므로 우리는 자녀가 누려야하는 그릇을 항상 준비해야할 줄로 믿는다.
3. 자녀가 누릴 그릇 (Vessel)
1) 최대의 보장
마 28:18-20 말씀에 주님께서 우리에게 주시는 최대의 보장이 기록되어있다.
마28:18 예수께서 나아와 일러 가라사대 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니
이 하늘의 모든 권세, 모든 보좌와 천사들을 통해 역사하시는 힘이 우리에게 나타난다는 것이다. 어떤 흑암의 권세라고 하더라도 하나님 보좌의 놀라운 권세를 사용할 때는 흑암이 무너진다. 마귀가 아무리 강하다 하더라도 천사를 이길 수 없는 것이다. 땅의 권세라고 얘기한다. 사단을 이길 수 있는 권세이다. 이 권세를 내가 받았으니 걱정하지 말라는 것이다. 모든 권세는 천지 만물을 복종케하는 권세가 주님께 있다는 것이다. 그 주님께서 우리 안에 계신 줄로 믿는다. 예수 권세 내 권세 이다. 정말 누리시는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
2) 최대의 위임
두번째로 최대 위임하신 것을 볼 수 있다.
마28:19 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고
우리 주님께서는 우리에게 모든 민족을 위임하셨다. 우리 주님께서는 전 세계 237개 나라를 우리에게 위임하셨다. 제자로 삼으라고 말씀하셨다. 그러므로 우리는 그리스도의 대사로서 이 사명을 감당하게 된다.
요20:22-23 이 말씀을 하시고 저희를 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 가라사대 성령을 받으라. 23 너희가 뉘 죄든지 사하면 사하여질 것이요 뉘 죄든지 그대로 두면 그대로 있으리라 하시니라
우리에게 어마어마한 권세를 주셨다. 너희가 누구의 죄든지 사하면 사하여진다는 것이다. 우리가 복음을 증거해서 그들이 복음을 받게되면 그들이 산다는 얘기이다. 너희들이 복음을 전하지 못하면 그들이 죽게되다는 말이다. 우리가 연약하고 힘도 없지만 복음을 통해서 하나님께서 역사하신다는 것이다. 그 뿐만이 아니다. 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀라고 이야기한다. 내가 너에게 특권을 준다는 것이다. 성삼위 하나님의 이름으로 세례를 주라는 것이다. 그러면 그들에게 성삼위 하나님의 축복이 임하게 될 것이다. 우리는 어마어마한 축복 가운데 있다.
3) 최대의 응답
최대의 응답을 주셨다. 우리가 이 땅에 살면서 가장 큰 응답이 무엇인가. 돈을 많이 벌고 출세하는 것이 아니다. 가장 큰 응답은 주님께서 나와 함께하시는 것이다.
마28:20 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라
이미 이 세상에서 가장 큰 응답을 우리는 받고있다. 언제까지인가. 끝 날까지 이다. 내가 잠자는 그 순간에도 주님께서 함께하신다. 항상 함께하겠다고 하셨다. 우리가 아무 생각없이 걸어갈 때도 함께하신다. 전무후무한 응답을 누리시기 바란다.
막16:20 제자들이 나가 두루 전파할새 주께서 함께 역사하사 그 따르는 표적으로 말씀을 확실히 증언하시니라
우리가 복음을 증거하는 현장에는 주님께서 친히 그 영으로 함께하셔서 표적을 주시면서 말씀을 확실히 증거하신다. 우리는 참 연약하고 부족하고 아무것도 아니다. 우리 그릇은 보잘것 없는 연약한 그릇이다. 그러나 우리와 함께하신 주님은 천지를 창조하신 능력의 하나님이다. 그 분께서 나와 함께하신다면 우리의 그릇은 저절로 커질 줄로 믿는다. 이 축복 누리시는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
결론
눅24:49 볼지어다 내가 내 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 너희에게 보내리니 너희는 위로부터 능력으로 입혀질 때까지 이 성에 머물라 하시니라
우리가 계속 기도하고 있다. 우리에게 성령 충만함을 주옵소서. 이것은 불가능한 것이 아니라 주님께서 약속하신 것이다. 내가 내 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 너희에게 보내겠다고 하신다. 날 위해서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 그 분께서 우리를 위해서 보내주시겠다고 약속하신 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 우리가 해야할 것은 위로부터 능력으로 입혀질 때까지 이 성에 머물라. 머물라는 것은 무엇인가. 이 언약 붙잡고 기도하라는 것이다. 큰 응답이 있을 줄로 믿는다.
The Vessel that God's Children Must Enjoy (Acts 23:11)

Scripture: “ But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, 'Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.' ”
<Introduction>
There is a message that the Jews are proclaiming to their children, and it is very extreme and intense. One day, there was a lone fox that came to the riverside because he wanted to eat a fish so he called out to the fish. The fox started warning the fish that fishermen are coming to catch them so it is dangerous for them to stay inside the water so they should come out to the land. Also, he continued to persuade them that there are large fish who are bothering them so if they come out to the land they can live a comfortable life. When the fish heard this, they decided to have a meeting. While some fish agreed with the fox, other group thought it was better to stay inside the water. In the end, the fish concluded to stay in the water and told this to the fox. I am sure you have heard of this story before. This story is being told all throughout Jewish families and fathers are telling their children this story. They don’t tell this story to their children just once but over and over again. After the father says this story, the father asks their children a question, “What happens when a fish comes out of the water?” The children reply that the fish will dry out and die. The father then tell their children, “That is right. We must live as Jews but if we don’t live as a Jew, then we will dry up and lose our identity.” At a young age, the parents are teaching their children their purposeful identity as a Jew. And as a child, they become prideful of their identity and hold onto the importance that they must keep their identity. This is such a scary concept. At a very young age, the parents are imprinting the ideologies of Jewish tradition and law. The Jews are not imprinting faith into their children but imprinting an ideology. Because of that, it makes it so difficult for them to return to Christ. That is why it is so important for us to imprint only Jesus Christ to our children from a young age. What we must imprint into our children is the fact that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus Christ is the True King who completely destroyed Satan, and this is what we must imprint into our children. When we were suppose to die, Jesus Christ completely overcame death and the powers of sin by shedding His blood on the cross. Also, when we were separated from God and had no choice but to live a life of suffering, Jesus Christ came as the True Prophet to show us the way back to God. When we hold onto Christ, then all of our problems will be solved. This is the assurance that we must imprint into our children. The fact that Jesus Christ came onto this Earth to die for us and our sins, this is called God’s grace and we must imprint this grace to our children. Just like how if a fish comes out of water, they have no choice but to die, if we are without Christ, then we have no choice but to dry out and suffer on this earth. What is the whole point of the Bible? It is testify us of Jesus as the Christ. God sees His children who have the gospel as the most precious and we can see that though Christ. Through Jesus Christ, He testified of this true gospel. When we look at today’s scripture, we can confirm that today.
1. Take Courage [Be of Good Cheer]
1) The Lord stood by him:
Verse 11 - It just a simple, one sentence but it says in today’s scripture that God stood by Paul. Isn’t this astounding? The Lord, God stood by Paul.
Acts 7:56, 9:5
- When we look at Acts 7, we can see that when Stephen was carrying out his ministry before his martyr, it said that he saw Jesus Christ sitting at the right side of God, watching over him. We thought that Jesus Christ was sitting at the right side of God in heaven but it said that this Christ stood by Paul. This wasn’t the first time that Jesus Christ appeared before people and His disciples after His resurrection and ascension into heaven.
Acts 9:5 - We saw how on his way to Damascus to persecute and kill Christians, a bright light shone and Jesus Christ appeared before him. Why would Jesus Christ come to Paul directly? This was because when someone directs their path towards missions then God has no choice but to put His entire focus on that person. Paul was called by God as a chosen vessel to share the gospel to all nations and people. What is God’s greatest concern at that time? It was to share the gospel to the Gentiles. Because God saw this as so important, He directly came to Paul to give him that commission. Right now, Deacon Karen is reaching out to the refugee camp once a week to share the gospel to those people but imagine how happy God is to see this. I am sure God is happy even with each step she takes at this place. That is why this month’s church evangelism camp, we have decided to hold it at this refugee camp.
2) Also bear witness at Rome:
When Jesus Christ appeared before Paul, not only did God tell Paul to go to Rome but spoke to him what content he must share and proclaim at Rome as seen in today’s scripture. God was not telling Paul to share the theology of Christianity but to proclaim of the work of Christ just as he did in Jerusalem to Rome. What was Rome like back then? Rome was filled with idolatry and idol worshipping. The idols that Greece was worshipping, the same influence of idolatry was penetrating into Rome. Rome was basically like Satan’s dome. For God to command to Paul to proclaim the gospel in Rome, this meant for him to break down the darkness working in Rome. Rome was considered a sin capital and it was filled with so much corruption and sins. If we also look in Romans 1, it also mentioned that homosexuality was present.
As you know very well, in Pompeii, there was a massive volcano that erupted and destroyed that entire city. I visited Rome and Pompeii, and when I thought about the destruction that arose there, it is interesting to see how accurately this volcano hit Pompeii. I am sure it is hard for even a fire cannon to directly and perfectly target 10 meters straight ahead but this volcano erupted and directly hit Pompeii and destroyed that city completely. I am sure God destroyed that city because it was filled with so much sin and corruption. Nothing is left from that city and it is completely destroyed. Even though this volcano took place years ago, after years of digging, they found remains of that city. This shows the wrath of God. Also, Rome was a land that conquered all nations of the world and conquered many lands, and enslaved all conquered people as slaves. They would whip and punish these people who were non-Romans like animals.
God was commanding Paul just like how he was proclaiming the gospel in Jerusalem to do the same thing in Rome. God was telling that the only way to save Rome and the people is only through the gospel alone. The content that he must share in Rome was the same gospel of Christ’s work that he shared in Jerusalem. This was because all things were possible through Christ.
Hebrews 13:8 (“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”) - The same gospel of Christ that was proclaimed in Jerusalem and Rome, we must share this same gospel. Hold onto this. The only way to help and save others is only through Jesus Christ and the work of Christ on the cross.
2. Where the Believers are Deceived
1) The faith to entrust it all to the Lord:
I am continuing to go out to the field to share the gospel and I was able to confirm that many people that even though they consider themselves as Christians, they are still being deceived. One person that I am doing Bible study with, his son has fallen into game addiction and depression and his son is suffering from all of that. In order to save his son, he did everything possible and prayed so much for seven years. Even though he kept praying for his son, his son’s condition seems to be getting worse and worse. I asked him what he is doing right now for his son and he replied that he decided to entrust it to God. I asked him how he is entrusting it to God and he said that he just gave it up to God, and basically just sitting there for God to work. Saying that you are entrusting all things to God, you may mean that but in this situation, I can tell that he was giving up on this problem. He is basically giving up and telling God that He can do whatever He wants with this problem because he was giving up on his son and this problem. I have heard this same situation and stories from so many people.
1 Peter 5:7-8 (“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”) - If you entrust all things to God, it doesn’t end there but it tells us to be sober and vigilant. What does it mean to be sober and vigilant? It means to gain strength and pray.
What does it mean to entrust things to God? The method is written in Philippians 4:6-7 (“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”) - You are confessing of your problems to God and confessing that you cannot solve this problem without Christ because you are weak and lacking, and praying for God to help you. Then, it says that God will guard you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Then, with this strength that God gives, you can pray to Him. When we are able to that and enter into His Word, then we can enter into God’s Word of James 4:7 (“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”).
I was able to speak with another individual and this was what he told me, “Satan can’t work through those who are saved.” I am a child of God and the Holy Spirit is with me so Satan can’t bother me. It sounds good but it is not right. There is something that we must be aware of. There are different attributes to sin. It is part of our nature to sin but there are two types of sins. One type of sin relates to guilt and the second type is known as corruption or contamination sin. The sin that relates to guilt is consequential sin. Consequential sin results due to a sin that you have committed, for an example, if you eat this fruit of good and evil then you will surely die. Because this was God’s Word, the moment they ate that fruit of good and evil, they died. And, as mankind is living on this earth, they have so much corruption and contamination within their lives. But the moment you accept Jesus Christ and become a child of God, you have been completely freed from your fundamental sins. Since you have become a child of God, you have been moved from death to life. You no longer have to face the wrath of the sins that came upon you. You have been moved from the identity as a child of Satan to a child of God. As a child of God, our identity as a child of God will never change. But what is absolute is that even though we have been saved and became a child of God, there is still corruption and contamination that remains within us. Even though we become a child, that old nature of corruption does not become changed. This is what we call possessing an old frame. Because of that, through daily worship, time with God, and Bible study you need to change and anew yourself.
2) Numbness within the old frame:
Philippians 1:6 (“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”) - Until we go up to heaven, the Holy Spirit will continue to sanctify us. Sanctification does not happen if you just stand still after you accept Christ and became a child of God. That is why it is written in 1 Peter 2:2 (“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.”) - We must daily eat the bread of life and feed ourselves spiritual food. In our denomination, many shamans have returned to God but there were also some shamans who returned back to shamanism. Why is this? Even though they have accepted Christ, they cannot overcome their old frame. When a person who is suffering from depression hears the gospel and accepts Christ, but then later on, they relapse back into depression. That is why you must always hang onto only Christ. We must always make the confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. You must experience this Christ becoming your Christ. When you do that, through you, the church will be established, the gates of Hades will be overcome, and the keys of heaven and earth will be given to you (Matthew 16:16-19 (“Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' 17 Jesus answered and said to him, 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’ ”)). When you enjoy this blessing, then your problems will be solved eternally.
3. The Vessel that God's Children Must Enjoy
1) The greatest guarantee:
We must our vessel as a child of God. There are seven types of blessings that we are looking at continually through the Sunday pulpit messages.
Matthew 28:18 (“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”) - No matter how strong Satan is, he cannot overcome an angel. The authority on this earth means the authority that we possess to overcome satan. Jesus Christ has this authority and this Christ is within us. I believe that this Christ is with us. Truly enjoy this in the name of Jesus Christ.
2) The greatest commission:
Matthew 28:19 (“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.' ”) - This Christ has commissioned us to find disciples. This Christ entrusted us the work of saving the 237 nations of this world and in other words, it is to raise up disciples all throughout the world. This is our duty as children of God.
John 20:22-23 (“And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.' ”) - Christ has given us a tremendous authority, which means when we forgive someone, they are forgiven. In other words, if you proclaim the gospel to them, they will live. Through the gospel, the work of Christ is at work.
3) The greatest answer:
Not only that but it says in Matthew 28:20 (“Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”) - God has given us the power of the Triune God. We have received this tremendous blessing. Truly enjoy this. God gave us the greatest answer. As we live on this earth, what is the greatest answer? It is about making money or obtaining success? The greatest answer that God has given to us is the fact that Jesus Christ is within us. We already possess the greatest answer, that God is with us. Until when? God promised to be with us till the end of the age. Even when we are sleeping, God is with us. He is always with us. Even when we are walking around mindlessly, God is with us.
Mark 16:20 (“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.”) - The fields that we minister and proclaim to, God promised us that He is with us and will show us signs that He is alive and with us. We are so lacking and weak, and so undeserving of His grace but our God who is the Creator and Almighty is with us. If this God is with us, then it is not about what we can do but what God can do though us. Then, the impossible with become the possible. Enjoy this blessing.
<Conclusion>
Hold onto and pray with this scripture of Luke 24:49 (“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”) - We have been praying but we need to pray for the Holy Spirit to come upon us. This is not impossible but this is something that God has promised us. This scripture tells us that the promise of God will come upon us. This Christ who died for us on the cross, He was sent to us. Therefore, the work that we must do is to wait and stay put until we are endued with power from on high as written in this scripture.What does it mean to remain tarry? It means to hold onto this covenant and pray. Then, great answers will be given to us. May we hold onto this covenant and restore the time of prayer.
