“그리스도의 고난을 보는 눈”

17 여호와의 손에서 그의 분노의 잔을 마신 예루살렘이여 깰지어다 깰지어다 일어설지어다 네가 이미 비틀걸음 치게 하는 큰 잔을 마셔 다 비웠도다 18 네가 낳은 모든 아들 중에 너를 인도할 자가 없고 네가 양육한 모든 아들 중에 그 손으로 너를 이끌 자도 없도다 19 이 두 가지 일이 네게 닥쳤으니 누가 너를 위하여 슬퍼하랴 곧 황폐와 멸망이요 기근과 칼이라 누가 너를 위로하랴 20 네 아들들이 곤비하여 그물에 걸린 영양 같이 온 거리 모퉁이에 누웠으니 그들에게 여호와의 분노와 네 하나님의 견책이 가득하도다 21 그러므로 너 곤고하며 포도주가 아니라도 취한 자여 이 말을 들으라 22 네 주 여호와, 그의 백성의 억울함을 풀어 주시는 네 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 보라 내가 비틀걸음 치게 하는 잔 곧 나의 분노의 큰 잔을 네 손에서 거두어서 네가 다시는 마시지 못하게 하고 23 그 잔을 너를 괴롭게 하던 자들의 손에 두리라 그들은 일찍이 네게 이르기를 엎드리라 우리가 넘어가리라 하던 자들이라 너를 넘어가려는 그들에게 네가 네 허리를 땅과 같게, 길거리와 같게 하였느니라 하시니라. (사51:17-23)
서론
여러분들이 이미 미국 내에 마약의 실태를 알고 계실줄 믿는다. 방금 본 영상은 필라텔피아 켄싱턴 거리에 관한 것 이었지만 전제계적인 문제이다. 이미 한국에도 사탕처럼 만들어서 어린 아이들이 중독 되는 일이 있다고 한다. 이것은 분명히 재앙이요 저주이다. 모든 문제는 하나님 떠난데서부터 온다. 최근 아프리카에서는 2만명이 홍수가 나 쓸려 죽었다고 한다. 사람의 생명이 생명이 아닌것처럼 느껴질 정도다. 하나님 떠난 자의 삶이 얼마나 비참한지를 우리가 다시한번 영적인 눈으로 보아야겠다. 그러면 이것에 대한 해결 방법이 무엇이냐 우리가 찾아보아야겠다. 우리에게는 정말 너무나 축복이다. 저는 오늘 아침에도 3, 9, 3 기도와 7가지 여정, 미션, CVDIP 를 묵상하면서 얼마나 성령의 충만함을 느꼈는지 모른다. 그것을 중심을 가지고 읽기만 하는데 약 한시간 정도 걸리는데 큰 은혜가 임하는것을 느낄수 있다. 여러분도 꼭 읽으시면서 마음 속으로 기도하며 누리시기를 바란다. 오늘 우리 주위를 보면 필라델피아에 있는 사람들 못지 않은, 저주속에 사는 사람들이 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 가문마다 문제 없는 가문이 없고 고통 속에 있지 않는 가문이 없고 재앙 속에 어떻게 살아야하는지 방법을 모르는 사람들이 너무 많다. 그런 문제를 어떻게 해결 해야하나. 우리는 오늘 말씀 통해 다시한번 해답 찾아야겠다.
1. 일어서라 Awake!
1) 예루살렘이여 깰지어다 Stand up, O Jerusalem!

창 Genesis 2:17
오늘 17절 말씀 보게되면, “여호와의 손에서 그의 분노의 잔을 마신 예루살렘이여 깰지어다 깰지어다 일어설지어다 네가 이미 비틀걸음 치게 하는 큰 잔을 마셔 다 비웠도다” 하는 말씀이 나온다. 지난 시간 우리가 말씀 받은 9절에 이사야가 하나님앞에 우리가 너무 고통속에 있습니다, 우리를 응답해주세요 하며 “깨소서, 깨소서” 부르짖으며 기도하는 내용이 나온다. 그때 하나님께서 이것이 죄 때문에 그러하다 라고 말씀 하신다. 그리고 오늘 말씀에는 하나님께서 이사야의 그 기도를 생각하시며 백성들에게 “깰지어다, 깰지어다" 하시는것을 볼수있다. 이제는 깰지어다, 일어나라 하며 소망의 말씀을 주시는것을 볼수있다. 어디서 일어나나, “분노의 잔을 마신 예루살렘이여 깰지어다 깰지어다”. 하나님의 진노하심은 심판과 벌을 말한다. 심판에 빠진 이들이여 이제는 일어나라 하신다. 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님을 철저히 떠났었다. 자기 욕심과 탐욕을 위해 하나님의 말씀을 완전히 거부했다. 그러고 어딜 찾아가나. 나무나 돌로 만든 우상을 찾아간다. 어느정도로 그랬나. 그 돌과 나무를 향해 자기 하나님, 아버지로 여기며 따랐다. 우리가 생각 하기에 상상못할 일이지만 실제로 지금도 많은 사람들이 그렇게 살고있다. 허상을 붙잡고 거기에 빠져서 산다. 하나님께서는 그것을 보시고 진노하심이 극에 달하신다. 내가 너를 창조하고 네게 모든것을 주었는데, 나를 거부하고 돌을 보며 하나님이라 한다니, 얼마나 분노 하시겠나. 하나님께서는 화가 나셔서 아예 앗수르, 바벨론을 불러 그들에게 맡겨 전쟁속으로 들어가게 하셨다. 제 생각에 가장 큰 저주는 하나님의 무관심, 방치를 받는것이다. 하나님의 보호가 끝나는 순간에 누가 찾아오나. 마귀가 찾아온다. 마귀는 원래 영혼을 도적질 하며 죽이는 존재이다. 절대 복을 주는 존재가 아니다. 멸망만 있을뿐이다. 마치 인간의 멸망을 향해 주시는 말씀으로 우리가 받아야겠다. 창 2:17, “선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라.’ 아담과 하와는 뱀의 이야기를 듣고 이거 먹는다고 죽겠어? 하나님의 말씀을 무시하며 불순종했다. 인간의 범죄로 하늘, 땅 모든 짐승이 저주를 받고 재앙과 죽음 속으로 몰린것이다. 죽은자가 누구인가? 숨이 끊어진것이 죽은게 아니고 하나님의 영이 떠난, 마귀가 주인된 자들이 바로 죽은자들 이다. 그런 사람들은 마귀에 잡힌 삶을 살수밖에 없다. 마귀가 복을 주는것처럼 보이는데 실제로는 육신적 정신적 고통, 그것이 무엇이든 문제가 생기기 시작한다. 오늘 말씀 보게되면, 이들은 비틀거리는 삶을 살았다. 하나님의 진노, 심판, 벌을 받고 마귀에게 장악 당하기 시작하면, 영혼, 정신, 육체가 비정상적으로 작동한다. 이 땅에서 지옥같은 삶을 살수밖에 없다. 그런데 오늘 말씀 보면 하나님께서 “깰지어다 깰지어다 일어설지어다" 라고 하신다. 그러시면서 “네가 이미 비틀걸음 치게 하는 큰 잔을 마셔 다 비웠도다” 하셨다. 지옥같은 고통의 삶을 살았을지라도 이제는 그 끝이 있다, 내가 이제 모든 짐들을 끝내겠다 복음의 말씀을 주시는것이다. 깰지어다, 이스라엘아 이제는 내가 너희를 통해 새 시대를 열것이다 하시는것이다.
2) 해결할 방법 The solution
사 Isaiah 51:18-20
그런데 여기서 해결되어야 할 문제가 있는것을 볼수있다. 18, “네가 낳은 모든 아들 중에 너를 인도할 자가 없고 네가 양육한 모든 아들 중에 그 손으로 너를 이끌 자도 없도다” 하나님의 탄식 하시는 소리이다. 바로 이들 가운데 이스라엘, 후대를 살릴 사람이 없다 하는것이다. 다시 말해 이제는 나의 진노가 끝났는데, 모세나, 사무엘, 다윗같은 인물이 너희들 가운데 한명도 없구나 하시는것이다. 그것은 왜 그런가. 모세 어머니의 기도, 사무엘의 어머니의 기도, 다윗의 기도, 이러한 기도를 하는 사람들이 없었다 이 말이다. 하나님께서 준비한것이 렘넌트다. 복음 가진 렘넌트가 없으니 실망 하시는것이다. 그래서 19절에 나온다, “이 두 가지 일이 네게 닥쳤으니 누가 너를 위하여 슬퍼하랴 곧 황폐와 멸망이요 기근과 칼이라 누가 너를 위로하랴”. 이스라엘에 전혀 렘넌트들이 없고 복음 가진 후대가 없으니 소망이 없어진것이다. 아무리 망해도 우리 후대가 복음 가지고 있다면 일어설수있다. 우리가 힘들더라도 하나님께서 함께하시는 증거를 가지고있으면 괜찮다. 그런데 그런것이 전혀 없는것이다. 여기에 황폐와 멸망은 내적문제, 영적, 정신적 문제의 황폐와 멸망을 말한다. 마귀가 장악하고 있는 한 살아날수 없다. 기근과 칼은 자연재해 뿐만 아니라 전쟁으로도 많은 사람들이 죽게 될것이다 말하는것이다. 그 결과 어떻게 되는지 20절에 나온다, “네 아들들이 곤비하여 그물에 걸린 영양 같이 온 거리 모퉁이에 누웠으니 그들에게 여호와의 분노와 네 하나님의 견책이 가득하도다”. 후대가 복음 가지지 못하게 하니 엄청난 문제 생긴것이다. 네 아들들이 곤비해서 그물에 걸린 영양같이 온 거리에 드러누워있다 이 말이다. 곤비한 것은 기절한 상태를 말한다. 그 모양이 그물에 걸린 뿔달린 사슴 마냥 꼼짝없이 잡힌 영적 상태를 말한다. 그러면서 하나님께서 말씀 하신다, “여호와의 분노와 네 하나님의 견책이 가득하도다". 어쩌자고 네 후손까지 멸망 당하지 않도록 복음을 전하지 않고 생명을 살리지 않았느냐. 그것이 너희 책임인데 왜 그것을 등한시 하느냐 하시는것이다. 현재도 소망이 없지만 미래에도 전혀 소망이 없도록 너희가 만들어왔구나 하는것이다. 완전히 소망이 없는 상태에서 하나님께서 하시는 말씀이 “깰지어다, 깰지어다 일어나라" 말씀 하는것이다. 하나님 당신이 구원할 방법을 가지고 계시고 그것을 내가 너희에게 행하겠다 하시는것이다. 이것이 실질적으로 역사적으로 그것이 실현 되었다. 이스라엘 백성중에는 그들을 구원할 사람이 없었다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘을 바벨론으로 부터 해방 시키시기 위해 페르시아에 사는 고레스를 사용해 이들을 해방 시키는 방법을 선택 하셨다. 이것은 놀라운 방법이다. 우리를 구원하시는 방법이 이러하다 라고 말씀통해 보이신것이다.
너희 인생들아, 너희는 모두 타락해서 죽은자 같은 삶을 살고 있지 않느냐. 인간들 가운데서는 그들을 구원할 자가 아무도 없는것이다. 인간이 아닌 하나님이 친히 자기 아들을 보내 이들을 구원하겠다 결정 하신것이다.
2. 이 말을 들으라 Therefore please hear this
1) 진노의 잔을 거두리라 I have taken out of your hand the cup of My fury
사 Isaiah 51:21-22
마 Matthew 26:39
21절에 하나님께서 말씀하신다, “그러므로 너 곤고하며 포도주가 아니라도 취한 자여 이 말을 들으라” 포도주라는것은 진노의 잔을 말한다. 그런데 하나님의 진노의 잔을 마시지 않은 자라고 해도 재산욕심, 세상의 쾌락에 빠져 중독과 고통속에 사는 사람들이 얼마나 많은지 모른다. “너는 내 말을 들으라”, 이 말좀 들으라는것이다. 그러면서 22절에 말씀 하신다. “네 주 여호와, 그의 백성의 억울함을 풀어 주시는 네 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 보라 내가 비틀걸음 치게 하는 잔 곧 나의 분노의 큰 잔을 네 손에서 거두어서 네가 다시는 마시지 못하게 하고”. 나의 분노의 잔을 거두어 너희가 다시는 그 고통 가운데 빠지지 않게 하겠다 하시는것이다. 하나님께서는 고레스를 통해 포로로 꼼짝 못하는 상황에 있던 이스라엘을 구원 하셨다. 그런데 마지막에 “너희가 다시는 마시지 못하게 하고” 라는 말이 나온다. 이 말은 그럼 앞으로 점령 당하지않게 하신다는 말씀이라 생각할수 있다. 그러나 나중에 로마에 점령당하여 2,000년 동안이나 나라를 다시 잃는다. 그렇다면 이게 무슨 말씀인가. 그리스도 통해 완벽하게 인간의 문제를 해결 하시겠다는 복음을 전하고 계신것이다. 너희 인생들아, 너희들이 범죄 한 진노의 잔을 내가 해결해 주겠다 이 말씀이다. 하나님께서 우리를 향하신 진노의 잔을 마시지 않게 하시는 방법이 그리스도를 이땅에 보내신것이다. 그 진노의 잔을 우리가 마시게 하지 않으시고 하나님의 아들 되신 그리스도를 대신 하신것이다. 하나님은 공의의 하나님이며 말씀을 반드시 이루시니 당신이 하신 말씀을 취소 하실수는 없다. 그 말씀하신 정녕 죽으리라 하는 진노의 말씀은 반드시 성취 되야하기 때문에 예수님이 친히 십자가에 못박혀 죽으시고 대속 하심으로 공의를 이루신것이다. 그렇게 예수님께서 기도 하신 내용이 마 26:39 에나온다, “조금 나아가사 얼굴을 땅에 대시고 엎드려 기도하여 이르시되 내 아버지여 만일 할 만하시거든 이 잔을 내게서 지나가게 하옵소서 그러나 나의 원대로 마시옵고 아버지의 원대로 하옵소서 하시고.” 아버지, 이 인간들이 받을 진노의 잔을 그냥 지나가게 하실수 없습니까? 그러나 아버지께서 원하시면 순종 하겠다 하신것이다. 십자가에 돌아가심으로 그렇게 공의를 완성 하신다. 흑암에 잡혀있던 인류를 한번에 해방 시키신다.
2) 내가 갚아 주리라 I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you

23절, ‘그 잔을 너를 괴롭게 하던 자들의 손에 두리라”. 너희들에게 행했던 저주, 사단의 권세, 고통을 이제는 너희를 괴롭혔던 흑암의 세력에게 둘것이라는것이다. 이것은 실질적, 역사적으로 이스라엘 침략했던 바벨론에게 일어난 일이다. 바벨론은 결국 멸망을 받았다. 그러면서 그들이 이스라엘에 행했던 악행을 자세히 설명한다. 21절, “그들은 일찍이 네게 이르기를 엎드리라 우리가 넘어가리라 하던 자들이라 너를 넘어가려는 그들에게 네가 네 허리를 땅과 같게, 길거리와 같게 하였느니라 하시니라.” 바벨론 사람들이 얼마나 이스라엘을 괴롭게 했던지, 땅에 엎드려 그럼 내가 너희를 밟고 건너갈거야, 하고 명령을 하고 실질적으로도 밟고 건너갔다. 여기에서는 허리라고 나와있지만 영어로는 back, 등허리를 밟았다고 나온다. 이것은 예수님께서 우리를 대신해 당하신 고통을 상징한다. 이사야 53:5, “그가 찔림은 우리의 허물 때문이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄악 때문이라 그가 징계를 받으므로 우리는 평화를 누리고 그가 채찍에 맞으므로 우리는 나음을 받았도다. “ 예수님께서 받으신 모든 고난을 우리를 치유하기 위함 이라는 말이다. 얼마나 감격스럽나다. 마태복음 8:17, “이는 선지자 이사야를 통하여 하신 말씀에 우리의 연약한 것을 친히 담당하시고 병을 짊어지셨도다 함을 이루려 하심이더라.” 예수님께서는 우리가 마셔야될 진노의 잔을 대신 마시어 우리가 치유함을 완전히 받을수 있도록 하신것이다. 우리의 모든것이 완전히 해결 된것이다. 요일 3:8, “죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 마귀는 처음부터 범죄 함이라 하나님의 아들이 나타나신것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이니라.” 오늘 23절에 나왔듯이 그 자를 너를 괴롭히던 자들의 손에 두겠다 하는것이다. 인간이 당한 모든 저주, 재앙을 마귀에게 전가하시는것을 나타낸다. 그렇게 우리 문제를 완전히 해결해 주신다. 우리가 주님 앞에 가기만 하면 모든것은 완전히 끝남을 말한다. 믿으시기를 바란다. 우리의 모든 문제는 완전히 끝났다. 이제 주님께 맡기기만 하면 되는것이다. 모든것은 십자가에서 완전히 해결되었다. 그러면 여기서 우리가 잡을 언약의 말씀이 무엇인가.
3. 예수님의 고난을 보는 눈 The eyes to see Jesus' passion (suffering)
1) 예수 이름의 권세를 주신 고난 His passion resulted in the authority of the name of Jesus
빌 Philippians 2:8-9
요 John 14:14
먼저 예수님의 고난을 보는 눈을 떠야겠다. 예수님의 고난 통해 첫번째로 우리에게 예수 이름의 권세를 주셨다. 빌 2:8-9, “사람의 모양으로 나타나사 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라 9 이러므로 하나님이 그를 지극히 높여 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 주사.” 우리를 살리기로 한 거룩한 뜻을 위해 아들되신 예수님이 오셔서 죽기까지 복종 하셨다. 우리가 살게된것이 너무나 하나님이 기쁘셔서 예수님 이름을 지극히 높은곳에, 뛰어난 이름을 주셨다 했다. 모든것 위에 뛰어난 이름 이라는것은 예수님 이름의 권세가 어마어마 하다는것이다. 그렇기 때문에 주님께서 말씀 하신다 – 요14:14, “내 이름으로 무엇이든지 내게 구하면 내가 행하리라.” 분명하다. 내가 예수님의 이름 선포하는 순간에 놀라운 역사 일어난다. 눈에 안보이지만 그의 이름 선포할때 모든 존재들이 무릎을 꿇는 역사 일어날것이다. 믿으시기를 바란다.
2) 권능을 회복하는 고난 The passion that restored power
빌 Philippians 2:10
빌 Philippians 3:21
두번째는 권능 회복하는 고난이다. 빌 2:10, “하늘에 있는 자들과 땅에 있는 자들과 땅 아래에 있는 자들로 모든 무릎을 예수의 이름에 꿇게 하시고.” 무슨 말씀인가. 예수님의 이름을 부르는 자에게는 하나님의 권세가 임한다 라는 말이다. 예수님의 이름이 선포되는 순간에 모든 무릎이 꿇리는것이다. 그동안 우리가 두려워했던 그 어떠한 존재도 문제될것이 없다. 뿐만 아니다, 빌 3:21, “그는 만물을 자기에게 복종하게 하실 수 있는 자의 역사로 우리의 낮은 몸을 자기 영광의 몸의 형체와 같이 변하게 하시리라.” 주님께서 아버지에게 받은 모든 영광을 우리에게 똑같이 허락 하셨다는 말이다. 하나님께서 우리를 위해 십자가에 자기 몸을 자기 생명까지 드리시지 않았나. 그것만으로 끝난것이 아니라 자기의 영광의 몸의 형체와같이 우리도 변하게 하신다는것이다. 그리스도께서 받으신 영광이 우리가 누릴 영광이다. 지금 내가 가진 신분 권세게 어마어마 한 것이다 라는 사실이다. 보통 아무것도 아닌것처럼 보이지만 우리가 어마어마한 신분 가진것을 잊어서는 안된다. 이것을 위해 3,9,3 기도하며 누리시기를 바란다.
3) 재앙막는 제자를 위한 고난 The passion for the disciples who will block disasters
마 Matthew 28:18, 20
세번째는 재앙막는 제자를 위한 고난이다. 마 28:18, 하늘과 땅에 모든 권세 주셨다 했다. 그러면서 20절에 “내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라” 말씀 하셨다. 우리에게 주신 어마어마한 권세는 예수님 안에 있을때 어마어마한 역사로 나타난다. 우리가 필라델피아에 좀비들, 마약 거리 보며 위험하다 생각할지 모르지만, 그 재앙을 이길수있는 힘이 이미 우리에게 주어졌다. 그런 흑암 재앙은 정치가들, 그 누구도 막을수도 해결할수도 없다. 복음 가진 하나님 자녀들이 그 복음 가지고 나설때에 막을수있다. 왜 그런가? 세상 끝날까지 우리와 함께 하시겠다 하셨기 때문이다. 우리 가운데 지금도 주님께서 계신다. 믿으시는가? 이 사실을 정말 누리고 항상 주님과 대화 하시기를 바란다.
결론 Conclusion
빌 Philippians 2:11
말씀 맺겠다. 빌2:11, “모든 입으로 예수 그리스도를 주라 시인하여 하나님 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하셨느니라.” 우리가 자랑할 것은 주님 밖에 없다. 주님께서 모든것을 주관 하시는 하나님 이신것 믿고 고백 할때에 하나님께서 크신 영광을 받으실줄을 믿는다. 이번 주간도 예수 그리스도의 이름을 선포 하시며 이에 증거가 나타나게 될줄을 믿는다.

Stand up, O Jerusalem, You who have drunk at the hand of the Lord The cup of His fury; You have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, And drained it out. 18 There is no one to guide her Among all the sons she has brought forth; Nor is there any who takes her by the hand Among all the sons she has brought up. 19 These two things have come to you; Who will be sorry for you?-- Desolation and destruction, famine and sword-- By whom will I comfort you? 20 Your sons have fainted, They lie at the head of all the streets, Like an antelope in a net; They are full of the fury of the Lord, The rebuke of your God. 21 Therefore please hear this, you afflicted, And drunk but not with wine. 22 Thus says your Lord, The Lord and your God, Who pleads the cause of His people: 'See, I have taken out of your hand The cup of trembling, The dregs of the cup of My fury; You shall no longer drink it. 23 But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, Who have said to you, 'Lie down, that we may walk over you.' And you have laid your body like the ground, And as the street, for those who walk over.' ”
Introduction
I am sure you have heard about the drug epidemic in Philadelphia and I am sure you know that this has been an issue all around in America. This has been a problem with children in America consuming and becoming addicted to drugs. This is nothing but a curse and a fate of destruction. All problems started due to mankind being separated from God. Another news is that there was a flooding incident in America that killed many people. You can see how people can die so easily in these natural disasters. We need to see once again with our spiritual eyes that these problems and disasters have no choice but to come upon this world and mankind that has been separated from God. What is the solution to all this? We are so blessed. I was doing my morning devotion time holding onto the 3, 9, 3 prayer and CVDIP. While reading all of this, it took me 1 hour and 1/2 but I received so much grace. You know all of this so make sure to read over it and meditate over it, and receive a lot of grace. You can see that people who have fallen into drugs are living a life in the midst of curses and disasters because they are living in a state of separation from God. From family line to family line, there is no family line and families that are without conflicts and suffering. How can we solve these kinds of problems? Through today’s sermon, may we find the answer.
1. Awake!
1) Stand up, O Jerusalem!
Verse 17 - Last week we talked about how Isaiah pleaded to God for an answer in the midst of all of their suffering and agony. God told Isaiah it was all because of their sin that they were suffering and in agony. God heard the prayer of Isaiah and gave the Israelites a new start. God told them to wake up and gave them new hope. Where did all of this start? God’s fury is referring to God’s judgment and wrath. The Israelites left God and left God full of God’s wrath. They left God for their own selfish needs and desires. Who did they follow after instead? They followed after their idols made out of man-made things. They started serving and followed after their human leaders and idols, and made it their father. So many people in this world are living like this right now. They are thinking that their idols are their God and father who will save them but only will lead them towards their destruction. People were doing this so God bestowed His wrath and judgment upon them. Imagine how furious God was when He saw His people following after idols instead of Him. God was so furious that He made Babylon and Assyria destroy Israel. The greatest curse in this world is when God ignores and rejects you. Who comes after you if God leaves you? It is Satan. Satan is someone who steals, kills, and destroys mankind. Satan and the evil spirits will never spare mankind from suffering and destruction. We need to see God’s calling in the midst of all this.
Genesis 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” - This was what God said in the beginning. Adam and Eve heard the words of Satan, ignored God’s covenant, and ate the fruit of good and evil. Because of mankind’s sin, it caused the entire world and living creatures to fall into sin and curses. Who are the dead? It is not those who stop breathing who are the dead but those who are separated from God. Those who are spiritually dead are those who are controlled by Satan. Satan is their master and is living a life enslaved by Satan. When Satan controls your life, problems constantly are coming to you starting from physical problems all the way to family problems.
2) The solution
Verses 18-20 - The people who are living a staggered life are those who faced the judgment of God and are controlled by Satan. Then, you will live a life where it is full of curses and destruction. You are living a life where your life feels like hell and you seem like nothing can turn your life around. But God tells us from today’s Biblical scripture to wake up and rise up. You used to live a life of suffering and destruction but God said that all of that has ended. God said that He will end all suffering and agony. God tells the Israelites to wake up and that He will give them a new start.
From here, there is a problem that we must solve as seen in verse 19. This is talking about God’s frustration. There is no one who can save the future generation of Israel. In other words, their suffering and agony ended but there will never be someone like Samuel, David, and Moses among them or in their future generations. Why is that? This is because there is no Hannah, Jochebed, and Jesse who prayed for the future generations. There is no one who was sharing the gospel to the remnants. This means there is no hope for the remnants. There were no-one who prayed for the remnants so there was no hope for Israel. No matter how much destruction comes upon a nation, if there are remnants, there is hope. There is always a way for an answer if there are remnants. There are no remnants so the only thing that remains is desolation, destruction, and famine. Desolation and destruction is referring to physical, spiritual, and mental problems and condemnation. Many people will die by wars, which is referring to the sword and famine.
Verse 20 - If there is no gospel left for the next generation, there is no hope. No evidence of life is left among the people. People will live their lives as if they can’t move and are stuck within their fate and destiny. God was rebuking the Israelites for not thinking about their next germination and they didn’t prepare anything for their remnants. The Israelites were the ones who didn’t leave any hope for their future. That is why when they have no hope left, God tells them to wake up. God was saying that He will share with them His solution for them. This realistically took place historically. There was no one who could save the Israelites. In order to save the Israelites from the Babylonians, God used Cyrus from Persia to liberate them. This was an astounding solution. This means that God will use any method unthinkable to man to save His people. When they had no hope and were living in complete desolation, God made a decision to save His people. And that decision was to send His one and only Son, Jesus to save His people.
2. Therefore Please Hear This
1) I have taken out of your hand the cup of My fury
Verses 21-22 - They were drunk with the wrath of God and things of this world. They were filled with God’s wrath because they were filled with only desires for the world. But God tells them to listen up.
Verse 22 - God said that He will take His wrath away from them so they don’t see it again. When the Israelites were in a state of slavery that they felt like they had no remaining hope, God saved and liberated them. God said that they will never drink from the cup of wrath. What does this mean? Does this mean that they will never face destruction again? If you look in history, they faced destruction from Rome and lost their nation for 2,000 years. What God meant by taking away the cup of wrath was sending His Son, Jesus to take away the wrath of man. The method on how to not drink the cup of wrath is knowing that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ who drank the cup of wrath on our behalf. This is because God was the one who did this. God was the one who fulfilled His word. God is someone who never cancels His words. He will always fulfill what He says.
Matthew 26:39 “He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, 'O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.' ” - Jesus was praying to God if there is a chance that this cup of wrath passed from Jesus but Jesus said that He will drink this cup of wrath if God wills. We can see that Jesus fulfilled God’s covenant on the cross. This caused the control of Satan on mankind to be completely broken down.
2) I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you
Verse 23 - God was saying that He will put an end to the suffering and agony on mankind. Historically, we can see that destruction came upon Babylon that enslaved and tormented Israel. We can see the suffering that Babylon put on Israel. Babylon faced the same suffering and agony that Babylon put on Israel. Babylon tormented Israel so much that they would make the Israelites lay down on the ground and would walk on them. What does this mean? This is talking about the suffering and agony that Jesus would face when He died on the cross.
Isaiah 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” - All of the pain and suffering that Jesus faced was so that He could heal and save us. We are so blessed.
Matthew 8:17 “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 'He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.' ” - Jesus drank the cup of wrath on our behalf and as a result, we were healed. Everything that we had, it had been healed completely.
John 8:44 “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” - Jesus took all of mankind's sins and curses, and placed them onto Satan. If we go before Jesus then all of our problems are solved. We need to entrust all things to God. Jesus Christ finished everything on the cross. The covenant that we must hold onto is that we need to open the eyes to see the suffering of Jesus.
3. The Eyes to See Jesus' Passion (Suffering)
1) His passion resulted in the authority of the name of Jesus
Philippians 2:8-9 “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name.” - This shows the great power of Jesus. This is the amount of authority and power that Jesus possesses.
John 14:14 “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” - This is absolute. The moment we proclaim the name of Jesus, then great works will arise. We may not see it but when we proclaim the name of Jesus then all knees will bow.
2) The passion that restored power
Philippians 2:10 “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth.” - People who call the name of Jesus Christ, there is power upon them. When we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ, all knees will bow. No problem is a problem for Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:21 “Who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.” - All glory that Jesus received from God, though Jesus Christ, we also received the same glory and power. Jesus gave up His life for us when He died on the cross. It didn’t end there but He gave us all of God’s glory and power through the cross. The glory that Jesus received, we can also enjoy. We must hold onto that our status and authority that we possess as a child of God is tremendous. It may seem like nothing but what we possess as a child of God is tremendous. May we enjoy all of this through the 3, 9, 3 prayer.
3) The passion for the disciples who will block disasters
Matthew 28:18, 20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen.” - The authority and power that we received, all of that is within Christ. When we are within Christ, then we can enjoy them. All of the drug addicts that we see in Philadelphia, we look at them and we think we are powerless but we possess the power to break down all disasters and darkness. Politicians cannot block darkness but only when children of God who possess the gospel of light and power can overcome darkness. This is because God promised to be with us till the end of the age. Among us and within us, God is with us. Do you believe in this? Truly enjoy this. Truly enjoy that God is with you. Have fellowship with God.
Conclusion
Philippians 2:11 “And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” - The only thing that we can boast about is Jesus Christ. This is because when we proclaim of the name of Jesus who is the Creator of all things then life will appear and darkness will crumble. May we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ.
