하나님의 아들 그리스도(히5:5-7)
서론
우리가 그동안에 예배를 드리지 못하다가 예배를 드리겠다. 큰 은혜 받으시는 축복의 날 되시기 바란다. 저는 오늘 예배를 위해서 말씀을 생각하다가 롬 12:1 말씀을 묵상해보았다. 저는 항상 이 말씀을 묵상하고 있다.
롬 12:1 그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라 이는 너희가 드릴 영적 예배니라
저는 이 말씀을 묵상하면서 참 감사한 마음이 들었다. 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 마다 힘이 생기는 것을 느낀다. 예수님께서 우리를 위해서 예수님 자신의 온 몸을 하나님께 산 제물로 드렸다. 구원받은 우리는 옛사람이 완전히 그리스도 안에서 죽었다. 저는 갈 2:20 말씀을 묵상하면서 감사하면서 힘을 얻는다. 롬 12:1 말씀을 말씀드리면서 너희를 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라고 말씀하시는데 이게 무슨 뜻인가 생각해보았다. 구원받은 우리는 옛사람이 그리스도 안에서 죽었는데 무엇을 또 제물로 드리지 하는 생각이 들었다. 분명히 말씀에는 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리라고 말씀하신다. 이 말씀을 묵상하면서 떠올랐다. 바로 네 인생을 완전히 주님께 맡기라는 말씀으로 받았다. 우리는 이제 주님 안에서 완전히 죽고 새로운 삶을 살게 되었는데 살아가면서 여러가지 문제를 많이 만난다. 우리는 다 죽었다 그래놓고 자꾸만 옛날 것이 나와서 염려 걱정에 사로잡힌다. 그래서 그거 다 내려놓으라는 말씀이로구나. 바로 그것이 산 제물로 드리는 거로구나.
마 11:28 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라
다 내려놓으라는 말씀이다. 너희들이 살아가면서 걱정하지 말고 다 내려놓으라는 말이다. 그리고 주님만 바라보라는 것이ㅇ다. 그래서 우리가 예배드릴 때 갖는 것이 이것이다.
마 22:37 예수께서 가라사대 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하셨으니
이 말씀을 붙들고 예배를 드리는 것이 참 예배구나 했다. 우리는 예배를 드리면서 오직 예수를 붙잡아야겠다. 붙잡게 되면 내가 너희를 쉬게하리라 말씀하셨다. 그러면 하나님께서 우리에게 새 평안과 힘을 주시고 연약한 부분을 치유하시겠다는 말씀이다. 바로 이것이 영적인 예배구나. 저는 그래서 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 마다 모든 것을 주님 앞에 내려놓는다. 오늘 예배에 참석하신 여러분들 모든 것을 다 내려놓으시기 바란다. 오늘도 하나님께서 귀중한 생명의 말씀을 주셨다.
1. 왕되신 그리스도
1) 대제사장 아론과 비교
히 5:5 또한 이와 같이 그리스도께서 대제사장 되심도 스스로 영광을 취하심이 아니요 오직 말씀하신 이가 그에게 이르시되 너는 내 아들이니 내가 오늘 너를 낳았다 하셨고
지난 시간에 봤습니다만 연약했던 아론이 하나님의 부르심을 받아 대제사장이 되었다. 아론이 부르심을 받은 것 처럼 예수님도 부르심을 받았다. 우리가 성경의 흐름을 보고 있습니다만 히브리서 3장에 보게되면 예수님과 모세를 비교했던 내용이 나온다.
히 3:5-6 또한 모세는 장래에 말할 것을 증언하기 위하여 하나님의 온 집에서 종으로서 신실하였고 6 그리스도는 하나님의 집을 맡은 아들로서 그와 같이 하셨으니 우리가 소망의 확신과 자랑을 끝까지 굳게 잡고 있으면 우리는 그의 집이라
이 예수님을 다시 아론과 비교해서 이야기하고 있다. 아론은 잠시 부르심을 받은 제사장이지만 예수님은 아들로서 부르심을 받은 영원한 제사장인 것이다.
시 2:7 내가 여호와의 명령을 전하노라 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 너는 내 아들이라 오늘 내가 너를 낳았도다
하나님께서 아들을 부르셨다는 이야기이다. 하나님께서 아들을 왜 부르셨는가. 바로 그리스도의 사역을 하시기 위해서 부르셨다. 왜 그런가. 바로 우리를 구원하시기 위해서 부르셨다. 복음 중의 복음이 바로 하나님께서 아들을 이 땅에 보내셨다는 것이다. 이 말씀 가운데 붙잡아야할 것은 너는 내 아들이라는 말씀이다. 너는 내 아들이라는 것은 너는 바로 왕이다 하는 의미를 갖고있다.
2) 왕되신 예수님
성경에는 내 사랑하는 아들이라는 말씀이 많이 나타나는데 이것은 바로 너는 왕이다 하는 말씀이다.
사 9:6 이는 한 아기가 우리에게 났고 한 아들을 우리에게 주신 바 되었는데 그의 어깨에는 정사를 메었고 그의 이름은 기묘자라, 모사라, 전능하신 하나님이라, 영존하시는 아버지라, 평강의 왕이라 할 것임이라
여기서 평강의 왕이라고 기록하고 있는데 Prince라고 기록하고 있다. 여기서 이야기하는 것은 통치자로서 왕자라는 것이다. 여기서 잡아야할 것은 내가 너를 낳았다고 하나님께서 말씀하셨다. 하나님께서 예수님을 낳았다고 말씀하시고 있다.
요 1:18 본래 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 아버지 품 속에 있는 독생하신 하나님이 나타내셨느니라
원래 예수님은 하나님의 품속에서 영원히 계셨던 말씀되신 하나님이었다. 영원히 하나님 품 속에서 말씀으로 계시던 하나님이 부르심을 받아서 이 땅에 나오셨다. 예수님은 하나님의 진짜 아들인 것을 나타낸다. 마치 엄마가 자식을 낳듯이 아버지 품 속에 있는 말씀되신 하나님이 나오셨다. 바로 이것이 독생자 예수 그리스도의 출생이다. 그래서 이 땅에 왕으로 오셨다.
눅 23:3 빌라도가 예수께 물어 이르되 네가 유대인의 왕이냐 대답하여 이르시되 네 말이 옳도다
예수님께서 친히 왕이라고 하셨다. 하나님이 그리스도로 보냈지만 이 땅에서 왕이라는 것이다. 무슨 왕인가.
요 12:31-32 이제 이 세상에 대한 심판이 이르렀으니 이 세상의 임금이 쫓겨나리라 32 내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라 하시니
내가 왕으로서 세상 왕들을 점령하러 온 것이 아니라 이 세상을 지배하는 사단의 세력, 세상 임금을 쫓아내기 위해서 오셨다는 것이다. 언제냐. 내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라 하신다. 예수님께서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 순간에 사단의 세력은 완전히 꺾였다. 그 일을 위해서 오셨다는 것이다. 얼마나 감사한다. 우리는 사단에게 시달려서 어떻게하면 구원받을 수 있습니까 기도해야할 것이다. 그런데 하나님께서는 그걸 보지 않으시고 미리 아셔서 왕을 보내신 것이다.
2. 대제사장되신 그리스도
1) 멜기세덱의 반차
히 5:6 또한 이와 같이 다른 데서 말씀하시되 네가 영원히 멜기세덱의 반차를 따르는 제사장이라 하셨으니
멜기세덱의 반차라는 것은 멜기세덱의 후손이라는 얘기가 아니다. 멜기세덱과 같은 형태의 대제사장을 말하고 있다. 멜기세덱은 아브라함이 제사장으로 섬겼던 사람이다.
시 110:4 여호와는 맹세하고 변하지 아니하시리라 이르시기를 너는 멜기세덱의 서열을 따라 영원한 제사장이라 하셨도다
예수님께서 오실 텐데 그 그리스도는 아론 계통이 후손이 아니라 멜기세덱 계통의 제사장이라는 것이다. 멜기세덱 계통이어야만이 창 3:15 여자의 후손이 성취가 되는 것이다. 원죄가 없는 후손을 멜기세덱의 후손이라고 이야기한다. 그래야만이 우리 죄를 용서함 받을 수 있다는 것이다.
히 10:10 이 뜻을 따라 예수 그리스도의 몸을 단번에 드리심으로 말미암아 우리가 거룩함을 얻었노라
예수님께서 멜기세덱의 반차를 따라 이 땅에 오셔서 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가심으로 말미암아 우리 죄를 깨끗하게 용서하셨다는 것이다.
히 10:12 오직 그리스도는 죄를 위하여 한 영원한 제사를 드리시고 하나님 우편에 앉으사
모든 죄를 해결하시고 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉으셨다.
2) 그리스도의 통곡과 간구
히 5:7 그는 육체에 계실 때에 자기를 죽음에서 능히 구원하실 이에게 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구와 소원을 올렸고 그의 경건하심으로 말미암아 들으심을 얻었느니라
예수님께서 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구했다는 얘기는 여기밖에 안나온다. 비슷한 모습은 누가복음에서 찾아볼 수 있다.
눅 22:44 예수께서 힘쓰고 애써 더욱 간절히 기도하시니 땀이 땅에 떨어지는 핏방울 같이 되더라
누가복음에 나타나는 것은 예수님이 십자가 지기 바로 전에 하신 처절한 기도였다. 여기서 생각해야할 것은 왜 예수님께서 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구와 소원을 올렸는가. 어떤 주석책을 보니까 예수님께서 죽음의 공포 때문에 인간과 같은 마음으로 이 고통에서 어떻게 벗어나게할 수 없습니까 하면서 통곡하고 기도했다고 나온다. 마치 인간이 죽기 전에 죽기 싫어서 울면서 부르짖은 것 처럼 예수님이 기도했다는 것이다. 그런데 정말로 잘못된 해석이다. 오늘 말씀에 심한 통곡과 눈물로 간구와 소원을 올렸다고 나온다. 올렸다는 말이 중요하다. 올렸다는 것은 속죄를 위해서 제물을 드리는 기도였다는 것이다. 그 통곡과 눈물과 소원과 간구가 죽어가는 인생들의 속죄를 위해서 간구하는 기도였다는 것이다. 이 죽음을 통해서 저 불쌍한 인간들의 모든 죄를 용서해주시고 사단의 권세에서 해방받을 수 있게 해달라는 기도였다. 주님께서 우리는 내용이 여기 말고 두군데 더 있습니다.
눅 19:41 가까이 오사 성을 보시고 우시며
예루살렘 성에서 저주와 재앙에 빠져 속아 사는 인생들을 보면서 눈물을 흘리셨다. 바로 우리 예수님께서는 우리의 불쌍한 모습을 바라보시면서 통곡과 눈물로 기도한 것이다. 예수님께서는 짧은 3년 공생애를 사셨습니다만 힘을 다해서 복음을 증거하셨다.
막 1:38-39 이르시되 우리가 다른 가까운 마을들로 가자 거기서도 전도하리니 내가 이를 위하여 왔노라 하시고 39 이에 온 갈릴리에 다니시며 그들의 여러 회당에서 전도하시고 또 귀신들을 내쫓으시더라
가서 만나는 사람마다 계속 복음을 전했던 것이다. 여기에 전도했다고 나온다. 예수님의 3년 공생애는 전도하는 삶이었다. 복음을 가로막는 흑암의 권세를 깨뜨리고 귀신을 쫒는 일을 하셨다. 마지막에 돌아가시면서 이 흑암의 권세에서 벗어나게 하옵소서 하면서 통곡하며 기도하신 것이다. 그 증거가 7절 마지막에 나타난다. 그의 경건하심으로 말미암아 들으심을 얻었느니라 예수님의 그 기도를 하나님께서 받으셨다는 것이다. 그래서 요 19:30절에 돌아가시면서 다 이루었다고 하셨다. 주님께서 우리를 위해서 심한 통곡과 간구로 올린 소원을 하나님께서 들어주셨다는 것이다. 다 이루신 것이다. 우리가 갖고있는 모든 문제가 완전히 해결된 것이다. 굳게 붙잡으시는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 그렇다면 하나님이 우리에게 주신 언약이 무엇인가.
3. 예수님이 주신 언약
1) 그리스도의 안식
하나님께서 다 이루셨기 때문에 그리스도의 안식을 주셨다.
마 11:28 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라
예수님께서는 네 문제는 네가 해결하라 하지 않으셨다. 문제 있냐? 그냥 오라는 것이다. 오기만 하면 내가 너희를 쉬게하겠다는 것이다. 우리는 문제를 내가 해결하라고 한다. 주님께 맡기시는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
마 4:19 말씀하시되 나를 따라 오너라 내가 너희로 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니
이 말씀을 보게되면 전문 지식을 따르라고 하지 않으셨다. 따라만 오라고 말씀하셨다. 네가 나를 따르기만 하면 최고의 인생으로 바꾸어주겠다는 것이다.
마 28:20 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라
항상 함께 있다는 것은 지금도 함께 계시다는 것이다. 내일도 함께 계실 것이다. 붙잡으시기 바란다.
요 14:1-2 너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라 하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿으라 2 내 아버지 집에 거할 곳이 많도다 그렇지 않으면 너희에게 일렀으리라 내가 너희를 위하여 거처를 예비하러 가노니
무슨 말씀인가. 죽는 일이 생긴다고 하더라도 걱정하지 말라는 것이다. 하나님께서 너를 위해서 영광의 안식처를 준비해놓으시고 있다.
2) 그리스도의 해방
그리스도께서 다 이루신 것 가운데서 우리에게 완전한 해방을 주셨다.
출 20:2 나는 너를 애굽 땅, 종 되었던 집에서 인도하여 낸 네 하나님 여호와니라
하나님께서는 애굽 땅 종되었던 이스라엘 백성들을 능력의 손으로 붙잡아서 인도해내셨다. 이스라엘 백성들이 원해서 그런게 아니라 하나님의 능력으로 그 모든 것을 이루셨다.
롬 8:1-2 그러므로 이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자에게는 결코 정죄함이 없나니. 2 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 너를 해방하였음이라
하나님의 자녀된 우리에게는 결코 정죄함이 없는 줄로 믿는다. 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망을 법에서 너를 완전히 해방하셨음이라. 우리를 부르신 이유가 무엇인가.
막3:14-15 이에 열둘을 세우셨으니 이는 자기와 함께 있게 하시고 또 보내사 전도도 하며 15 귀신을 내쫓는 권능도 가지게 하려 하심이러라
함께 있기 위해 부르셨다. 함께 있는 이유가 바로 전도도 하고 귀신을 내쫓는 권능도 가지게 하려 하심이다.
행 1:8 오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라
성령의 권능을 위해서 기도하시기 바란다. 구하기만 하시면 능력을 주실 줄로 믿는다. 땅끝까지 증인으로 삼으실 줄로 믿는다. 이 축복 누리는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
결론
빌 4:6 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라
염려 근심 다 버리시기 바란다. 감사함으로 기도하시기 바란다. 큰 응답이 있을 줄로 믿는다.
Christ, the Son of God (Hebrews 5:5-7)

“ 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.' 6 As He also says in another place: 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek'; 7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear. ”
Introduction
We haven’t been able to officially give worship formally but I am give thanksgiving to God for being able to worship together today. We were not able to come together to give worship so may today be the greatest day to receive God’s grace. As I was meditating upon today’s sermon, I meditated on Romans 12:1 (“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”). I always meditate on this scripture in the morning and I specifically meditated deeper on this scripture for this sermon. As I meditated on this scripture, I was really thankful to God and whenever I meditate on this scripture, I always gain great strength. Jesus Christ gave up His entire body as a living sacrifice. We who have received salvation, we have completely died in Christ. When I meditate on this and meditate on Galatians 2:20*, I gain great strength. Just like in Romans 12:1, it says in the scripture that we need to give our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God and I thought about what this meant. We who have been saved, we have died in Christ but what more do we need to give for God? What more do we need to sacrifice? But from today’s scripture, it tells us to give our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. When I meditated on this scripture, I realized that it was referring to the need for us to entrust our lives to God because we live our lives for God alone. We have completely died in Christ and gained a new life but as we live life, we may be faced with many difficulties, worries, and failures. We tell ourselves that we have died but we still get bound by our own worries and fears. That is why God tells us to discard and lay them down. This is what it means to give ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Matthew 11:28 (“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.) - God tells us to lay everything down. Lay everything down. There is nothing for us to worry about and just lay everything down, and look up to God. That is why when we give worship, we need to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and mind just like it is written in Matthew 22:37 (“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ ”). When we give worship, we need to hold onto only Christ. When you hold onto this, then God promised that He will give us rest. God promised that He will give us complete and new rest, and this allows works of healing to take place in our lives. This is what it means by spiritual worship. When I meditated on these scriptures, I have laid everything down to God. Those of you who have attended worship today, may you lay everything down to God. Through today’s sermon, God has given us a precious message.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
1. Christ Who is the King
1) Comparison to Aaron the high priest
Verse 5 - We heard from the last sermon about how Aaron became the High Priest even though he was a weak and lacking human being. Just like Aaron was called, Jesus Christ was called as a priest. We have been looking at the flow of the Bible but it is written in Hebrews 3:5-6 (“And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, 6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.”) - In this scripture, they were comparing Jesus Christ and Moses. Moses lived as a servant in his house but Jesus Christ came as the master of the house. In today’s scripture, it is comparing Jesus Christ and Aaron. Aaron was only called as a priest for a short period of time but Jesus Christ was called as the eternal Priest.
Psalm 2:7 (“I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”) - God has called Jesus Christ His Son. Why would God call Jesus His Son? This was because Jesus was called to do the work of Christ. Why was that? It was because Jesus had to come to save mankind. This is the gospel of all gospels, the fact that God sent Jesus Christ. What we need to hold onto is the fact that God called Jesus His Son. What does it mean that God calls Jesus His Son? This means that God was calling Jesus, King. When you look at the scriptures, it talks about Jesus Christ is the Son of God, this is meaning that Jesus is King.
2) Jesus who is the King
Jesus says in Isaiah 9:6 (“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”) - In this scripture, it says Prince but in other scriptures, it says King. What this is referring to is the Prince of Peace, which means He is King. What we need to hold onto from here is that a Child was born. It is saying that Jesus Christ was born.
John 1:18 (“No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”) - Originally, Jesus was in the bosom of God eternally and was the word of God. Eternally, Jesus was in God’s bosom as the word of God and was called forth to come to Earth to save mankind. Jesus Christ is the real Son of God. Just like a mother who bears a child, Jesus was begotten from God. This is showing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and came to this Earth as the True King.
Luke 23:3 (“Then Pilate asked Him, saying, 'Are You the King of the Jews?' He answered him and said, 'It is as you say.' ”) - Jesus Christ proclaimed that He was the King. Pilate asked Jesus if He was king and Jesus proclaimed that He was King. Even though He was called Prince, He is a King. What kind of King is He?
It is written in John 12:31-32 (“Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”) - God said that He came to the earth as a king to do nothing else but to destroy the powers of Satan. When did this happen? The moment Jesus comes back to Earth, He will draw all people to Him and break down the forces of darkness completely, once and for all. This is the reason why Jesus came. We should be thankful. When we think about the gospel, we may be deceived by Satan and ask and pray to God how we came to receive salvation. Think and pray about how we were able to receive salvation. But God does not look at that but is looking ahead of time, God sent us Jesus Christ as the True King for this reason.
2. Christ the High Priest
1) The order of Melchizedek
Verse 6 - The order of Melchizedek is not referring to the descendants of Melchizedek. As you know, Melchizedek was the priest that Abraham was serving.
Psalm 110:4 (“The Lord has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.' ”) - Jesus Christ will come not through the lineage of Aaron, the priest but through the priest, Melchizedek. Melchizedek had to be priest so that the covenant of the offspring of the woman in Genesis 3:15* would be fulfilled. The lineage without original sin was the lineage of Melchizedek. This had to be done so that mankind’s sins could be forgiven.
Hebrews 10:10, 12 (“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.”) - Jesus Christ came through the lineage of Melchizedek, died on the cross, and completely cleansed and forgave our sins.
Hebrews 10:12 - He forgave all of our sins and is now sitting at the right side of the throne of God.
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.
2) Prayers and supplications of Christ
Verse 7 - This is an important Bible verse. This is the one of the few times in the Bible where it talked about Jesus Christ crying.
A similar incident was written in Luke 22:44 (“And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”) - What Jesus is referring to was the prayer He prayed before He died on the cross and it was the most heart wrenching prayer. From here, we need to think about why Jesus prayed a prayer of agony? An interpretation of this scene was translated that Jesus Christ was feeling the same emotion of agony regarding the fear of death as a human being would and was pleading to God to escape this fear of death as He was praying to God. Just like how a person would be screaming out that they don’t want to die and pleading for someone to save them, this is the same interpretation that they had made regarding this scripture of Jesus. But this is absolutely incorrect. According to the scriptures, it was written that Jesus had offered up prayers and supplications. The word, “Offered” is important here. This means that Jesus gave His prayer as a sacrificial offering to God. His tears and pleas were directed towards the souls of mankind. Through the death of Jesus Christ, Jesus was pleading for God’s mercy towards mankind and for us to receive forgiveness of our sins. There were two other incidences that recorded Jesus crying.
It is also recorded in Luke 19:41 (“Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it.”) - The land of Jerusalem was falling into corruption and destruction so Jesus was weeping for them. Jesus Chirst was crying when He saw the pitiful state of mankind, Jesus was crying for us. Jesus Christ carried out His ministry on Earth for three years, which may be seen as short but during that brief time, He devoted His life in proclaiming and sharing the gospel.
Mark 1:38-39 (“But He said to them, 'Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.' 39 And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.”) - Whoever He met, He always shared the gospel. It said that He evangelized. During His three years of ministry, all He did was share the gospel and evangelize. He was casting out demons and breaking down the forces of darkness. Even before Jesus died, He pleaded and prayed for the powers of Satan to be destroyed and for mankind to be saved from the bondage of Satan.
This means that because Jesus prayed a tearful prayer, God heard. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He said that it was finished in John 19:30*. Through Jesus’ tearful prayers, God heard and answered His prayers. Jesus Christ finished all things. He has finished all of our problems. May you hold onto this.
John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
3. The covenant from Jesus
1) Christ's rest
If this is so, what is the covenant that God has given to us? Because God has fulfilled all things, God has given us rest.
Matthew 11:28 - From here, Jesus didn’t say for us to solve our own problems. We discussed from the last sermon that Jesus didn’t tell us to solve our own problems, Jesus said if you have a problem come to Him. If we just come to Him, Jesus promised us rest. But we always try to solve our own problems. May we become the people who can entrust all things to God.
Matthew 4:19 (“ 'Come, follow Me,' Jesus said, 'and I will send you out to fish for people.' ”) - Jesus said for us to follow Him. If we just follow Jesus then Jesus promised that He will give us the best and greatest life.
Matthew 28:20 (“Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”) - The fact that Jesus is always with us, this means that He is with us forever. Even tomorrow, Jesus will be with us. Hold onto this.
John 14:1-2 (“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”) - What does this scripture mean? Even if you face death, there is no need to fear. Jesus has prepared a seat of glory for us. May you enjoy these blessings in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ gave us complete deliverance and liberation.
2) Christ's deliverance
Exodus 20:2 (“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”) - God has bought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt and slavery. This was not something that the Israelites did but something God did for them.
Romans 8:1-2 (“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”) - We no longer have to face condemnation from God. The law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. May you truly enjoy this in the name of Jesus Christ.
Mark 3:14-15 (“Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons.”) - What is the reason why God called us? He called us so that He can be with us. The reason why God called us so that we can heal sicknesses, to preach, and to cast out demons in His name.
Acts 1:8 (“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”) - May you pray for the power of the Holy Spirit. When you receive the power of the Holy Spirit, then you can stand as a witness. You can stand as a witness till the ends of the earth. May you enjoy these blessings.
Conclusion
Hold onto Philippians 4:6 (“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”) - Discard all of your anxieties and worries to God. Pray with thanksgiving. Then, great and tremendous answers will come to you.
