Paul's Prayer and Answers (Acts 22:17-23)

Scripture: “ 17 'Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance 18 and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.’ 19 So I said, ‘Lord, they know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believe on You. 20 And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by consenting to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’ 21 Then He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you far from here to the Gentiles.’ 22 And they listened to him until this word, and then they raised their voices and said, 'Away with such a fellow from the earth, for he is not fit to live!' 23 Then, as they cried out and tore off their clothes and threw dust into the air. ”
<Introduction>
This was a testimony of a pastor named Juan Carlos Ortiz of [Crystal Cathedral], and this couple went on a vacation trip to Rome. During their vacation, from their secretary, they received letters from their children. The parents read letters starting from their eldest to the youngest child. His eldest son was seven years old and in his letter, he basically wrote down every word that he knew to his parents and the parents seeing this, they thought this was cute and comforted each other. Then they read the second letter from their five year old son and his five year son didn’t know how to write so he drew a picture for them but it was a picture of a husband and wife getting married and his father was officiating the wedding. The fact that his son was able to draw something even though it wasn’t a letter, the parents were so happy. And, he opened the letter from his youngest son and the letter was all crumbled but instead of letters, it was just lines, circles, and random stuff all over the paper. But even though these letters may seem like nothing, the parents were very touched and started crying. When they saw each other crying, they started crying all the more. But the pastor that saw them and wondered why they were crying so the parents showed the pastor all the letters that they received from their children. But the pastor didn’t really seem like it was anything and couldn’t understand the parents but this was what the pastor wrote and thought, since it wasn’t his own children, he couldn’t understand the feelings of the parents. Then, the pastor continues to write that for the parents, this was the most precious gifts to them. The pastor stated that he continues to speak of this testimony but when I read this, I had many thoughts. We may live a life where we try our best to live a upright life and try our best to live for God even despite our lacking but imagine how touched God would be to see how much you are trying. My granddaughter, Phoebe fell sick and she wasn’t able to participate in worship but seeing her sick truly crushed my heart. She is a child that is always running around so much all the time but she was sick so my heart was hurt to see that. If I have this kind of heart when I look at my grandchildren then imagine the heart and the way God looks at us. Even when we have a little bit of trouble in our lives, imagine how disheartened God would be. I think we misunderstand and underestimate God’s love for us. God is not a God who judges and punishes us but we need to look at God correctly. Just like how the parents who looked at the letters of their children with a loving heart, this is the same heart that God looks at us when we give praise and worship to Him. May this be the time where we can understand God’s amazing grace and plan today.
When we look at today’s scripture today, we can see the image of Paul praying. It was recorded that Paul was praying in the temple but what kind of person was Paul? He was someone who was persecuting Christians but after meeting Jesus, he was praying before God in the temple. In the temple, there were two scheduled prayer times throughout the day so all of the Jews would gather at the temple at those times and pray. I am sure God would’ve been so happy to see Paul praying before God earnestly. Paul was someone who was killing Christians but now he was kneeling before God and praying before Him. Paul was praying the scheduled prayer. At this time, God bestowed amazing blessings upon Paul. We can see the amazing blessing of meeting with God that takes place when we pray. When we pray, we may schedule our prayer times but absolutely and undoubtedly during those times, God will reveal to us His absolute plan and answers. What I experience when I pray is that I can see and find my lacking and weaknesses so the more I pray, I am able to feel my relationship with God has deepened. I am so happy and thankful for this.
1. Paul's Spiritual Enjoyment
1) Paul's enjoyment of prayer:
Verse 17 - It said that Paul returned to Jerusalem, entered into the temple, and prayed. But, what was important was what happened after he returned to Jerusalem. In Damascus, Paul met Jesus but the word, “returned” means that after a quite of time, Paul returned to Jerusalem; it wasn’t straight after he was in Damascus. After Paul met Jesus in Damascus, he didn’t meet anyone else but went straight to being by himself in the wilderness as seen in Galatians 1:16-18 (“To reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.”) - He was in the wilderness in Arabia for three years. He was so shocked after meeting Jesus that he didn’t meet anyone else but isolated himself with God and had that deep time with God alone in the wilderness of Arabia. He didn’t do anything else but prayed before God and spent time with God. This was the most important time for Paul.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (“Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”) - When you reach that deep time with God, then you can reach the second level of the spiritual summit. When you have that deep time with God, then you can reach that deep relationship with God. I am sure you are experiencing this in your life but when you have that deep time with God, then you experience true peace. When you are able to have deep prayer, then what follows afterwards is 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 (“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”) - This is the content of what was recorded when Paul was in the wilderness of Arabia. When you have deep relationship with God, you are able to have such a deep time with God to the point where Paul didn’t even know if he was in a trance or in his physical body. He was in such a deep time with God that he was able to reach the feeling of being in heaven. This is what we call the answer of the 25 hour. 2 Corinthians 12:4 - He entered into a state where it was unexplainable to man. Paul was able to experience all of this inside of prayer but when you pray, you shouldn’t just pray but you have to enter into concentration when you pray. We are doing the 40-day prayer challenge but may we experience this sense of spirituality when we pray. Let us hold onto what happens when we pray.
2) What happens when you pray:
Matthew 18:10 (“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”) - When we look at mankind, God may see that they are nothing but when that person prays, God accepts and takes it as His own. It says that our God, Father is always alive and will answer us. When we pray, don’t just pray but pray with the faith that God will answer you and truly open up your heart when you pray.
Revelation 8:4-5 (“And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.”) - When we pray, none of our words of prayer fall onto the ground but is taken up to God. And, when He answers us, it is like thunders and lightnings from heaven. This means that God will absolutely answer us when we pray. Darkness is broken and answers that we have not received yet, they will be answered and take place when we pray. When we pray, God and the spiritual world is at work.
Psalm 103:20-21 (“Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. 21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.”) - When you hold onto His Word and pray, then the heavenly hosts are mobilized and at work. When you hold onto the Word and pray, great power of God is revealed onto you.
John 14:14 (“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”) - When we pray with this scripture, then pray with faith that this scripture will be fulfilled in your life. When you pray that prayer, don’t just pray but be aware that the armies of angels are mobilized and at work when you pray. Not only that but it says in Psalms 103:21 - The armies of angels are at work when we pray. Truly receive answers. Open up your spiritual eyes and be aware of everything that takes place when we pray, then God will reveal His great work to you. Paul was able to discover great hope when he prayed.
2. Paul's Prayer Topics
1) Paul's hope:
Paul came to Jerusalem because he wanted to proclaim the gospel to the Jews and with the Gentiles. And, he was able to see God’s great works taking place to bring salvation to the Gentiles so he prayed that God would save His people, the Jews. Verses 18-19 - Paul was praying to God to save the Jews but God answered for him to get out of Jerusalem as fast he can. He wanted to save the Jews but that was not part of God’s plan at that time and commanded Paul to leave Jerusalem fast. But Paul responded saying to God that he knows that Jews have rejected God but pleaded and bargained with God saying that he too was someone who beat and ripped apart clothes of Christians, and at one point, he was no different from the Jews. But, even though he had this past, Paul was saving that God still saved him and gave him salvation so he was pleading to God to allow his people, the Jews to receive salvation as well. This was the content of prayer that Paul had towards God. We can see that Paul did not just have loyalty for his people but he was pleading and bargaining with God to help save his people. Through this, we can see the great love that Paul had for his people. When I saw this, I examined myself to see how much I am praying for the life saving movement. Even though God commanded Paul to leave, Paul still held onto God and pleaded for God to have mercy and His grace upon his people, the Jews. When I thought about this, I repented before God. I was able to see that Paul had love for the life saving movement and for saving of souls. But, we can see that God denied and rejected Paul’s request again in verse 21.
2) The Lord's command:
Verse 21 - God was telling Paul that He called him for the ministry to share the gospel and save the Gentiles not the Jews. When Paul heard this, he changed his prayer topics and decided to give up his own ambitions towards his people, the Jews and shifted his entire focus on God’s will of saving the Gentiles.
He hold onto God’s command in Galatians 2:8 (“For He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles.”) - Even though he wanted to save the Jews, you can see that he bore no fruits of sharing the gospel and saving the Jews. Every time Paul tried to the share the gospel to the Jews, the Jews reacted every time on trying to kill and persecute him.
3. The Spiritual State of the Jews
1) The Jews' anger:
Verses 22-23 - The moment Paul proclaimed that he will share the gospel not the Jews but to the Gentiles out loud, the Jews heard this and caused an angry uproar. The Jews were angry that Paul focused on the Gentiles and the fact that God sent him to save the Gentiles not the Jews. For the Jews, they thought that only the Jews were the chosen people of God. They had the prideful identity that they were the chosen people of God who received the covenant of the circumcision from God. But, the fact that God commanded for Paul to go and save the Gentiles, they could not understand and became so angry. They were causing an uproar from this. Because they were so angry that Paul had the focus on sharing the gospel to the Gentiles, they plotted to kill Paul. This was the reason why until the end, the Jews lived lives of captivity and enslavement. They thought that they were keeping the law and doing the right thing but until the end, they continued to fall into idolatry and legalism when they thought they were keeping the law. What is more scary than idol worship is your arrogance. This caused the ultimate destruction for the Jews. The Jews failed because they lost hold of God’s covenant. I am sure you saw this in the news but one of the elder’s son was shot to death by a police officer and the reason for all of this was due to drugs. The elder didn’t know that his son was using drugs and a police officer felt suspicious and threatening behavior from the son so he was shot to death. As an elder’s son, I am sure he heard the gospel at least once but the problem was that this gospel was nothing to him. You hear the gospel but it has no meaning and value to you so it is no different from living a religious life. You are just going back and forth to church and think that God will protect you because you are going to church.
2) Find what was stolen:
I heard a story from a student that in every school party, there are drugs everywhere and this has become so severe. When they wake up and sober up, they are at home but without them knowing, they become addicted to drugs. We need to hold onto the gospel correctly. Satan is always trying to take the gospel away from you. Satan’s work is to take away your identity as a child of God that was given to us as seen in Genesis 3. In Genesis 6, through the Age of Nephilim, Satan makes you captivated and enslaved to him. In Genesis 11, we can see that mankind are always focused on success and waste their lives being dragged away by the world. If you don’t understand the problems of Genesis 3, 6, and 11 then you won’t understand why you always have problems. You always hear the same thing regarding Jesus Christ but it just sounds repetitive to you and it has no meaning to you because Jesus Christ has not become the answer to your problems.
Philippians 1:6 (“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”) and Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”) - You should think that you can do all things through Christ but instead you have disbelief towards God’s Word and God’s Word has no meaning and connection to you. God’s answers are given to you but you don’t know what to do with it. God’s Word is living and active but it has no connection to you. This is what it means to have our lives and answers stolen from us. You think that living life is so important and enjoyable but you wonder why the gospel should take all of this worldly pleasure away from you? But we need to return what has been stolen from us.
John 19:30 (“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished!' And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”) - We need to take this as our covenant. Do you take this as your covenant? Do you believe in this? When you believe in this, then a problem is not a problem. But you are not able to hold onto it as your covenant. The Bible records this and records that Jesus is the Christ, and you know this so well but you cannot hold onto this correctly. You can explain this well but this has no connection to you at all. If we are not solve of this problem then you cannot be liberated and freed from your daily and life problems.
1 John 3:8 (“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”) - All problems are finished so all you need to do is believe that the problems have nothing to do with you.
Romans 8:2 (“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”) - Do you believe this? The problems of the past, present, and future have all been taken away by God, do you believe in this? Then, everything is finished.
John 14:6 (“Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' ”) - Jesus Christ came as the True Prophet and showed us the way. I heard from someone that when this person received the message of 1 John 3:8 and believed in it, peace came upon his heart. This is so important. When you receive the message, don’t think of it as just another Bible scripture but you need to believe in it and believe that everything is finished. That is why we must continue to hold onto the Word and pray with the Word. You need to pray that God will fulfill His Word through you. You need to continue to pray that God will continue to fulfill His Word through your life. Truly receive answers. May you hold onto the Word and gain assurance, and hold onto it as your covenant.
<Conclusion>
Exodus 15:2 (“The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”) - This was a praise that the Israelites sang after they crossed the Red Sea. It was a tremendous song. This the message that we must hold onto. God is your strength. There is no other strength that we must rely on other than God, Himself. Only God can give you strength. Only God can solve your problems even though we may be lacking and weak. Only God is your praise. Only God can become your true praise. Only God can give you true salvation. There is no other name that can give you salvation. If we just go before God in the midst of any problem then it will absolutely be answered.
Matthew 11:28 (“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”) - This is because God is the One who gave us salvation. May we believe in this. This is because He is our God. Do you believe in this? You are a child of God. The fact that you are a child of God, this means that your Father is God, the Creator of all things and the universe. The fact that He is your Father, that is all that we need and this is the end of all things. When you come before God, He is so happy and excited, and is always wondering on how to heal, help, and answer you. So, we just need to have the correct direction. When you pray to God that you can’t receive answers and you want to receive answers, then God will help you to receive that answer because He is your Father. May we receive answers in the name of Jesus Christ.
바울의 기도와 받은 응답 (행22:17-23)
서론
갈보리 교회에 있었던 후안 까를로스 오르테즈 목사님의 간증을 보았다. 이 부부가 로마에 여행을 갔다. 여행 중에 비서로부터 자기 아이들에게서 온 편지를 받았다. 큰 아이서부터 편지를 뜯어보았다. 큰 아이가 7살짜리 아들인데 그 아이가 편지를 쓴 것을 보니까 자기가 아는 글자라는 글자는 다 종이에 써서 보냈다. 문장도 잘 모르는데 아는 글자를 막 써놓은 것을 보면서 코가 찡 했다고 한다. 두번째 편지를 보았다. 5살짜리 아들이 쓴 편지였다. 5살짜리 아이는 글자를 쓸 줄 몰랐다. 대신에 그림을 그렸다. 신랑 신부가 결혼하는 그림을 그리고 아버지 목사님이 주례를 서는 모습을 그렸다. 그림이 잘 그리진 못했지만 그렸다는 자체를 보면서 기뻐했다. 막내 3살짜리의 편지를 뜯어보았다. 3살짜리 종이를 보니까 종이가 꾸겨져있었다. 거기에는 글자 대신에 글을 쭉쭉 그려넣고 동그라미, 네모, 마름모 등이 있었다. 그런데 그것을 보면서 부모들이 감격을 했다. 아내는 그것을 보면서 눈물을 흘렸다고 했다. 그것을 보고 자기도 눈물이 나서 눈물을 흘렸다고 했다. 옆에서 편지를 가져다준 목사님이 이들이 왜 종이를 쳐다보고 울지 했다. 그래서 아무소리 않고 아아들에게 온 편지를 그 목사님에게 보여줬다. 그것을 본 목사님은 별로 대수롭지 않게 반응했다. 그러면서 목사님이 기록한 것이 있다. ‘자기 아이들과 상관이 없으니까 마음 자체가 틀리구나.’ 그러면서 이 사람이 썼다. 그러나 우리 부부에게는 이 아이들이 쓴 이것이 너무나 값진 선물이었다. 지금도 그것을 간직하고 있다고 한다. 저는 이것을 보면서 여러가지 생각을 했다. 주님의 마음을 바라보면서 이것을 기록하지 않았나 한다. 우리는 주님 보시기에 기도를 하는 것도 사는 것도 합당치 못할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 주님 앞에 나가서 기도하고 주님 위해서 살려고 애를 쓰는 자체를 얼마나 감격하고 계실까 하는 마음이 들었다. 우리 서현이가 얼마전에 아파서 팔팔거리고 다니는 애가 드러누워서 일어나질 못하고 있었다. 예배를 드리지도 못하고 드러누워 자고 있었다. 그것을 보고 얼마나 가슴이 아프던지. 팔팔 뛰고 그러던 애가 풀이 죽어서 그러고있으니까 마음이 아팠다. 저는 그것을 보면서 제가 우리 손녀딸을 보면서 이런 마음이 드는데 하나님의 마음은 어떨가 생각했다. 우리가 조금 고통당하고 어려움 당하는 것을 보시면 가슴이 아파서 쩔쩔매실 것 같다. 우리는 하나님의 사랑을 너무나 잘못생각하고 있는 경우가 있다. 우리는 무서운 하나님이 아니라 극진히 우리를 사랑하시는 하나님을 섬기고 있다. 우리가 찬송을 부를 때나 기도할 때 하나님께서는 그 목사님처럼 아마 그것을 오랫동안 간직하고 계실 줄로 믿는다. 그래도 참 믿음이 잘 자라고 있구나 하고 기특해 하실 것 같다. 오늘 말씀을 통해서 하나님의 사랑과 계획을 발견하는 시간 되기를 바란다.
1. 바울의 영적 누림
1) 바울의 기도누림
오늘 말씀이 사도바울이 기도하는 모습으로 시작되는 것을 볼 수 있다. 사도바울이 성전에서 기도하고 있었다고 기록하고 있다. 그런데 이 사도바울은 어떤 사람이었냐면 조금 전만해도 예수 믿는 사람을 잡으러 다녔던 핍박자였다. 이제는 성전에 앉아서 주님 앞에 기도하고 있다. 예루살렘 성전에서는 당시에 하루에 두 번, 아침 9시 오후 3시 정시기도하는 시간이 있었다. 유대인들이 다 와서 기도하는 시간에 자기도 가서 같이 기도했다. 이 모습을 아마 주님께서는 굉장히 기뻐하셨을 것이다. 얼마 전까지는 핍박자이던 바울이 예수님을 만나고 정말로 주님앞에 무릎을 꿇고 간절히 기도하는 모습이다. 이 때 하나님께서는 놀라운 축복을 주시는 것을 볼 수 있다. 오늘 말씀 보니까 비몽사몽간에 예수님이 나타났다. 우리가 하는 정시 기도를 통해서 하나님께서는 주님을 만나는 축복의 역사를 주시는 것을 볼 수 있다. 우리가 지금 40일 기도를 하고 있다. 우리가 기도할 때 시간을 맞춰서 일어나서 기도하고 자기 전에 기도하게 된다면 그 때 하나님께서는 틀림없이 하나님의 뜻과 계획을 알려주는 역사가 나타날 줄로 믿는다. 저는 지금 기도하면서 실질적으로 느끼는 것이 내가 연약했던 많은 부분들이 발견되는 것을 느낀다. 그래서 기도할 수록 주님과 깊은 단계, 더 가까이 가는 단계를 체험하고 있는 것을 본다. 얼마나 감사한지 모른다.
행22:17 후에 내가 예루살렘으로 돌아와서 성전에서 기도할 때에 황홀한 중에
여기서 하나 중요한 것이 후에 라는 단어이다. 후에 라는 것은 다메섹 도상에서 사도바울이 예수님을 만났다. 그 사건이 지나고 한참 후라는 것을 볼 수 있다. 갈 1:16-18 말씀 보게되면 사도바울이 다메섹에서 예수님을 만나고 난 후에 누구와도 만나지 않고 광야로 갔다는 것을 볼 수 있다.
갈 1:16-18 그의 아들을 이방에 전하기 위하여 그를 내 속에 나타내시기를 기뻐하셨을 때에 내가 곧 혈육과 의논하지 아니하고. 17 또 나보다 먼저 사도 된 자들을 만나려고 예루살렘으로 가지 아니하고 아라비아로 갔다가 다시 다메섹으로 돌아갔노라. 18 그 후 삼 년 만에 내가 게바를 방문하려고 예루살렘에 올라가서 그와 함께 십오 일을 머무는 동안
아라비아 광야에서 3년을 있었다고 기록하고 있다. 예수님을 만나고 난 다음에 얼마나 충격을 받았던지 부모님도 사도와도 누구와도 만나지 않고 주님과 직접 교제하는 깊은 시간을 가졌다. 광야에 가서 기도했다는 것은 계속 주님앞에 기도했다는 것이다. 이 시간이 아주 중요하다.
살전5:16-18 항상 기뻐하라. 17 쉬지 말고 기도하라. 18 범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라
우리는 항상 주님을 위해서 기도하고 감사하는 것이 하나님의 뜻이라고 한다. 우리가 이 단계를 영적 서밋의 단계라고 한다. 주님과 깊은 교제가 이루어지는 단계이다. 우리가 기도를 깊이 들어가게 되면 주님과 깊은 대화를 하는 단계로 들어가게 된다. 많이 체험하고 계실 줄로 믿는다. 이것이 상당히 필요하다. 이 때부터 제대로 마음에 평안이 오고 응답이 오기 시작한다. 우리가 이 기도가 되어지면 나타나는 것이 고후 12:2 말씀이다. 사도바울이 아라비아 광야에서 겪었던 내용이다.
고후12:2 내가 그리스도 안에 있는 한 사람을 아노니 그는 십사 년 전에 셋째 하늘에 이끌려 간 자라 （그가 몸 안에 있었는지 몸 밖에 있었는지 나는 모르거니와 하나님은 아시느니라）
하나님과 깊은 교제의 단계에 들어가게 되면 내가 몸 안에있는지 밖에 있는지 모를 정도가 된다는 것이다. 사도바울은 얼마나 깊이 들어갔던지 셋째하늘까지 올라갔다고 말하고 있다. 이것을 우리가 얘기하는 25시 응답이라고 한다.
고후 12:4 그가 낙원으로 이끌려 가서 말로 표현할 수 없는 말을 들었으니 사람이 가히 이르지 못할 말이로다
인간의 한계를 넘는 응답의 세계 속으로 들어갔다. 이 모든 것이 사실은 사도바울의 기도를 통해서 이루어진 것이다. 이렇게 할 수 있는 방법이 기도를 그냥하는 것이 아니라 집중 기도를 통해서 이루어지는 것이다. 우리가 지금 작정기도를 하고 있습니다만 이것까지 체험하는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 여기서 우리가 기도할 때 일어나는 일을 다시 붙잡아야겠다.
2) 기도할 때 일어나는 일
마18:10 삼가 이 작은 자 중의 하나도 업신여기지 말라 너희에게 말하노니 그들의 천사들이 하늘에서 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 얼굴을 항상 뵈옵느니라
우리가 인간적으로 보면 보잘것 없는 사람이라고 하더라도 그가 기도할 때는 하나님께서 그 기도를 다 알고계신다는 것이다. 내 아버지 얼굴을 항상 뵈옵느니라고 나온다. 항상 살아계신 하나님을 만나고 있다는 것이다. 여러분이 기도할 때 그냥 하지 마시고 마음의 눈을 뜨시고 하늘 보좌에서 내 기도를 받으시는 모습을 바라보면서 기도하시기 바란다.
계8:4-5 향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는지라 천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라
우리가 기도하는 것이 한마디도 빠지지 아니하고 천사의 손을 통해 하나님의 보좌로 올라간다. 모든 것이 다 올라가서 하나님께서 응답을 주시는데 그 모양이 “제단에 불을 담아가다 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라” 우리가 기도하는데 응답하신다는 사실이다. 흑암이 무너진다. 우리가 해결하지 못한 모든 문제들이 해결되는 모습이다. 사단의 결박 속에서 빠져나오는 모습이다. 실제 우리가 기도하면 기도할 수록 하나님께서 친히 역사하신다.
시103:20-21 능력이 있어 여호와의 말씀을 행하며 그의 말씀의 소리를 듣는 여호와의 천사들이여 여호와를 송축하라. 21 그에게 수종들며 그의 뜻을 행하는 모든 천군이여 여호와를 송축하라
여러분 하나님 말씀을 붙들고 기도하게 된다면 그 순간에 하늘 군대가 동원되서 흑암이 무너지는 줄로 믿는다. 여러분 말씀을 붙들고 기도하면 얼마나 힘이 나는지 모른다. 예수님이 말씀하셨다.
요 14:14 내 이름으로 무엇이든지 내게 구하면 내가 행하리라
“주님, 주님께서 하신 이 말씀을 붙들고 기도하노니 주님께서 이 기도를 들어주옵소서.” 그 기도를 할 때 그냥 하는 것이 아니라 말씀을 붙잡고 기도하는 순간에 하늘 군대가, 천사들이 역사한다는 사실을 붙잡고 기도하시라. 그에게 수종들며 그 뜻을 행하는 천군이라고 했다. 언약을 잡고 기도할 때는 천군이 역사한다. 주님께서 주신 언약의 말씀을 성취해주옵소서 할 때 하나님께서 역사하신다. 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 기도하실 때 실제 영적인 눈을 뜨시고 생각하시면서 기도하시게 되면 큰 능력이 나타날 줄로 믿는다. 사도바울은 언약을 잡고 기도하는데 간절한 소망을 갖고 기도한 것을 찾아볼 수 있다.
2. 바울의 기도제목
1) 바울의 소망
사도바울이 예루살렘에 온 것은 유대인들에게 복음을 전하기 위함이었다. 이방인에게 많은 역사를 일으켰는데 예루살렘에서 하게되면 똑같이 성령께서 역사하실 것이 아닌가 하며 예루살렘까지 왔다. 성전에서 무슨 기도를 했냐하니까 유대인들, 내 동족들을 구원해주세요 하고 간절히 기도했던 것 같다. 그것에 응답을 주시는 것이 18절 말씀이다.
행22:18 보매 주께서 내게 말씀하시되 속히 예루살렘에서 나가라 그들은 네가 내게 대하여 증언하는 말을 듣지 아니하리라 하시거늘
네가 지금 자꾸만 네 동족을 구원시켜달라고 기도하고 있지 않느냐 그 기도를 하지 말고 예루살렘을 떠나라는 말이다. 사도바울은 자기 동족을 살리려고 기도하는데 예수님께서는 아니라는 것이다. 그 얘기를 듣고 사도바울은 “알고 있습니다 근데 나도 저들하고 똑같았습니다. 주를 믿는 사람들이 가두고 때리고 스데반이 순교할 때 옷까지 지켰던 사람이었는데 구원받지 않았습니다. 저들도 구원해주세요” 한 것이다. 사도바울은 동족을 사랑하는 것이 그냥이 아니라 끝까지 주님 앞에 간구했던 것을 볼 수 있다. 저는 이것을 보면서 아 내가 기도하면서 정말로 생명구원을 위해 얼마나 기도하고 있는가 점검해보았다. 이 사도바울처럼 정말로 주님께서 너 떠나라고 하는데도 불구하고 아닙니다 이 사람들 살려주세요 하는 간절한 마음이 있었는가. 다시 한 번 회개하는 마음을 가졌다. 사도바울의 영혼구원에 대한 사랑은 끔찍했다.
2) 주님의 명령
행22:21 나더러 또 이르시되 떠나가라 내가 너를 멀리 이방인에게로 보내리라 하셨느니라
예수님은 또 떠나라 하신다. 너를 부른 것은 이방인 선교 때문에 부른 것이지 유대인 때문에 부른 것이 아니다 하신다. 사도바울은 이 말씀을 듣고 난 후에 자기의 기도제목을 중단시킨다. 비록 자기 뜻과 소망에 반대임에도 불구하고 주님의 말씀에 순종하는 것이다. 그래서 이제는 자기 사명을 분명히 잡고 이야기한다.
갈2:8 베드로에게 역사하사 그를 할례자의 사도로 삼으신 이가 또한 내게 역사하사 나를 이방인의 사도로 삼으셨느니라
사도바울이 이렇게 예루살렘에 복음을 증거하러 몇 번이나 왔음에도 한 명의 열매도 없었다. 오늘 이 말씀과 마찬가지로 오히려 복음을 증거하려고 하면 분노를 일으키고 죽이려고 했다. 사도바울이 여기까지 얘기한다. 사도바울이 결정적으로 “떠나가라 내가 너를 멀리 이방인에게로 보내리라” 하신 말씀을 많은 유대인 앞에 얘기했다. 그 이야기가 나오자 마자 유대인들이 화가나서 소리쳤다.
3. 유대인의 영적 상태
1) 유대인의 분노
22절 말씀에 이런 자는 세상에 살려둘 자가 아니다, 죽여버리자 하면서 폭동을 일으키는 것을 볼 수 있다. 이 사람들이 화가 난 이유가 이방인을 위해서 보냈다는 사실이었다. 이방인 구원을 위해서 하나님이 너를 보내셨다는게 말이 안된다는 것이다. 그들이 생각하는 하나님 백성이라는 것은 오직 유대인이었다. 우리는 유대인으로서 할례받은 백성으로서 특별한 백성으로 우월감을 갖고있었다. 그렇게 싫어했던 로마 사람들을 위해 생명구원하러 나간다는 것이 말이 안되는 것이다. 옷을 벗어 던지면서 격렬한 분노를 일으켰다. 사도바울을 죽이려는 것은 율법 때문이 아니라 이방인에게 복음을 전한다는 사실 때문이었다. 왜 이스라엘 백성들이 속국이 되었는지 이유를 모르고있는 것이다. 바벨론 포로 이후에 우상숭배 한 적도 없었다. 율법을 지키려고 열심히 노력했다. 하나님 앞에 버림받는다는 것은 생각할 수도 없는 것이었다. 우상숭배보다 더 무서운 교만함과 이방인을 배척하는 것이 그들의 문제인데 모르고 있었다. 이스라엘 백성들의 멸망의 원인이 언약을 놓쳤다는 것이다.
2) 빼앗긴 것을 찾아라
메세지에서 들으셨겠습니다만 남가주 교회 장로님 아들이 총에 맞아 죽었다. 경찰에게 쏘여죽었다. 그 이유가 마약 때문이었다. 자기 아버지는 그것을 잘 몰랐던 모양이다. 집에서 마약을 하고 헤롱거리는 상태에서 길거리로 나갔다. 경찰이 이상하니까 세워서 엎드리게 했던 것 같다. 마약한 사람이 제정신이 아니니까 수상한 짓을 하려는 줄 알고 쏴 주였다. 도무지 왜 이런가. 우리가 복음을 가졌으면서도 그 장로님의 아들이 나이가 꽤 먹은 렘넌트라고 하는데 복음을 안들었겠는가? 복음을 알아도 자기와 상관없는 것이다. 그러면 아무 상관이 없는 것이다. 우리가 복음이 지식으로만 들어와있게 되면 사실 아무것도 아니다. 종교생활과 똑같다. 왔다갔다하며 하나님께서 지켜주시겠지 하고 앉아있을 뿐이다. 제가 학생들의 얘기를 들었다. 학교 들어가면 신입생 파티를 하는데 마약을 돌린다고 한다. 옛날보다 굉장히 심해졌다고 한다. 괜찮아 나도 괜찮잖아 하면서 하는 것이다. 그러다가 나도 모르게 중독이 된다. 자기 자신이 어떻게 되는지도 모르고 휩쓸려가다가 그런 일이 생긴다. 우리는 잘 잡아야겠다. 사단은 항상 나를 빼앗으려고 노력하고 있다. 창 3장에서도 하나님 자녀인 나의 신분을 빼앗았다. 창 6장을 보게되면 네피림, 하늘에서 떨어진 영에 사로잡히게 만들었다. 창 11장 보면 성공에 모든 방향을 맞춰서 잘못된 방향으로 가게 만든다. 여기서 눈을 뜨지 못하면 나에게 왜 문제가 오고 왜 계속 얽히는지 모른다. 그렇게 되면 성경을 통해서 그리스도를 붙잡으면 된다고 해답을 주고 있다. 그런데 그게 나하고는 상관이 없는 것이다. 나한테는 응답이 안되잖아 하고 있다.
빌 1:6 너희 안에서 착한 일을 시작하신 이가 그리스도 예수의 날까지 이루실 줄을 우리는 확신하노라
하나님께서 분명히 나를 인도해나가신다. 그런데 나를 인도 안하신다고 생각한다.
빌4:13 내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라
이 말씀을 받고 정말 그리스도 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있잖아 해야할 텐데 말씀이 그렇게 어떻게 그게 가능해 하는 것이다. 말씀 자체가 안믿어지는 것이다. 하나님 말씀이 살아있다고 기록되어있다는 것은 알고 있지만 실제로 나한테는 아닌 것이다. 이렇게 되면 우리가 세상에 삶을 빼앗기게 된다. 문화에 내 삶을 뺏겨버리는 것이다. 살아가는게 얼마나 중요하고 재밌는데 왜 하지 말라그래 하게되는 것이다. 이번에 산업선교 메세지 처럼 빼앗긴 것을 찾아야한다. 주님께서 요19:30에 다 이루었다고 하셨다. 그러면 다 이루었다 할 때에 이것이 나의 언약으로 받아지는가. 믿으시는가. 언약으로 잡아지는가. 내 언약으로 잡게되면 아무 문제될 게 없다. 그런데 나의 언약으로 잡지 못한다. 성경에는 그렇기 기록되어있다는 정도밖에 안된다. 주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님이시라고 한다. 너무나 잘 알고있다. 실질적으로 주님께서 그리스도의 직분을 행하신 것 자체를 잡지 못하는 것이다. 설명은 잘 할수 있다. 그런데 나하고는 관계가 없다. 우리가 이것이 해결되지 않으면 해방받지 못한다.
요일3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 마귀는 처음부터 범죄함이라 하나님의 아들이 나타나신 것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이라
그렇다면 모든게 끝났잖아. 예수님이 모든 것을 끝냈잖아 그러면 나도 상관없겠네 하고 믿어져야한다. 그 순간에 모든 것이 끝나는 것이다.
롬 8:2 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 너를 해방하였음이라
믿으시는가. 우리의 원죄, 자범죄, 조상죄, 과거, 현재, 미래 모든 문제가 완전히 해결 받았다 확신이 있는가. 그러면 완전히 끝난 것이다. 참 제사장으로 오신 것이 정말 나의 제사장이 되어야한다.
요14:6 예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라
내가 예수님을 붙들었음으로 하나님 만날 수 있는 길이 열렸다 하는 확신이 온다. 제가 어떤 분의 얘기를 들었다. 하나님의 아들이 나타나신 것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이라 하는 말씀을 듣는 순간에 아 그럼 끝났잖아 하게 된 것이다. 그 순간에 마음에 평안함이 오는 것이다. 아 이런 말씀이 있구나 하는 것이 아니라 아 그럼 나 이제 끝났잖아 하는 이것이 말씀을 받아들이게 되는 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 말씀을 붙잡고 기도하는 것이 중요하다. 이 말씀이 나에게 성취되게 하여주옵소서 하고 기도하는 것이다. 그러면 이루어주시는 것이다. 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 우리가 이번에 기도할 때 말씀을 붙들고 확신을 갖고 언약잡고 기도하시기 바란다.
결론
출15:2 여호와는 나의 힘이요 노래시며 나의 구원이시로다 그는 나의 하나님이시니 내가 그를 찬송할 것이요 내 아버지의 하나님이시니 내가 그를 높이리로다
이 말씀은 이스라엘 백성들이 홍해를 건너고 난 후에 불렀던 찬송이다. 하나님은 이들이 고백했던 것 처럼 하나님의 나의 힘이 되신다. 하나님 외에 어떤 것도 의지할 수 없다. 내가 비록 연약하지만 하나님만이 내 문제를 해결하실 유일한 분이시다. 그리고 하나님 만이 나의 노래이시다. 우리 주님만이 나의 찬송의 대상 되시는 것이다. 주님만이 나의 구원되신다. 주님 외에는 그 누구도 나를 구원시킬 수 없다. 어떤 문제 있다고 하더라도 주님 앞에 가기만하면 해결된다. 수고하고 무거운 짐 진자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 쉬게 하리라 하고 주님이 말씀하셨다. 구원하신 분이 주님이신까. 그러면 되는 것이다. 그는 나의 하나님이시기 때문이다. 우리가 하나님 자녀이다. 그러면 하나님의 자녀라는 것은 아버지가 하나님이시라는 것인데 그 분은 천지를 창조하시고 모든 것을 주관하시는 분이시다. 그 분이 나의 하나님이면 끝나는 것이다. 어떻게 하면 도와줄까 치유해줄까 노심초사 하시는 분이 하나님이다. 방향만 맞추면 된다. 응답받지 못하면 주님 내가 응답이 안됩니다, 응답받을 수 있도록 축복해주세요 이 기도하면 된다. 네가 이제 진짜 기도할 줄 아는구나 이렇게 되는 것이다. 왜 그런가. 그 분은 나의 하나님이기 때문이다. 뿐만 아니라 내 아버지 하나님이다. 믿음의 조상들에게 응답을 주셨던 그 하나님이 나의 하나님이다. 이번 한 주간 말씀 붙들고 실질적으로 응답받으시는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
