“여호와의 종의 고난의 비밀”

서론
1835년에 어떤 남자가 이탈리아 플로렌스 시에 있는 한 병원을 찾았다고 한다. 그는 불안증과 우울증으로 심각한 고통 속에 있었다고 한다. 의사가 그를 보고 이런 진단을 내렸다. 몸은 건강한 상태인데, 활력있고 재미 있는 시간이 이 사람에게 필요하다. 그래서 그에게 이야기했다. 지금 마을에 열린 서커스에 그리말드 라는 광대가 있으니 그를 찾아가 보시오. 그는 매일 관중들을 웃음바다로 만드는 대단한 사람이다. 그 사람을 꼭 찾아가 보라, 그러면 당신은 치유 될것이다 라고 했다. 의사는 진심으로 그리고 간절한 마음으로 그에게 이러한 말을 했다고 한다. 그 소리를 들은 사람이 이야기 하기를, “아닙니다, 그 사람은 나를 도와줄수 없습니다, 내가 바로 그사람, 그리마드 이기 때문입니다.” 이 이야기를 듣고 많은 생각이 든다. 세상에는 의사들이 해결하지 못하는 많은 질병들이 있다. 세상에는 정치가나 과학자들이 해결 할수 없는것들이 있다. 저주와 재앙, 지옥의 고통 같은것은 그 어떤 인간도 해결 할수 없다. 인간의 문제든 자연의 문제이든 모든 문제 해결 하실 분은 오직 그리스도 한분이기 때문이다. 그 의사는 마땅히 먼저 예수그리스도를 찾으십쇼 라고 전했어야 한다. 오늘은 고난 받는 종, 그리스도에 대해 예수님이 태어나기 700년 전 이사야 통해 전해진 말씀을 통해 은혜 갖기를 원한다. 제가 좀전에 예수님은 모든 문제 해결할 분 이라고 말씀 드렸다. 이런 예수님을 여러분들이 아시는가. 오늘 이 시간을 비롯해 예수님을 정확하게 아시게 되는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
1. 고난받는 종 The Passion of the Servant
1) 침묵하는 종 The silent Servant
사 Isaiah 53:7
벧전 1 Peter 2:23
오늘 7절 말씀에 보면, “그가 곤욕을 당하여 괴로울 때에도 그의 입을 열지 아니하였음이여” 라고 나온다. 여기서 곤욕을 당하여 라는 말의 원문을 보면 곤욕을 당하도록 자신을 내 맡겼다는 의미를 내포하고있다. 그러니까 예수님의 고난은 예수님 자신이 자원해서 받으신 고난 이었다는 말이다. “괴로울 때에도 그의 입을 열지 아니하였음이여” 엄청난 고난과 핍박 속에서도 그는 입을 열지 않았다. 어느정도인가. 마치 도수장으로 끌려가는 어린양과 털깎는 자 앞에 잠잠한 양 같이 입을 열지 아니하셨다. 보통 짐승들을 잡을때 살려고 마구 발버둥친다. 제가 김상후 목사님 이야기를 들었다. 카자흐스탄에 선교하실때 양을 잡아본적이 몇번 있다고 한다. 그런데 다른 짐승과는 달리 양은 잡아도 얌전히 가만히 있다고 한다. 칼로 죽이는데도 큰 저항 없이 그냥 그렇게 피를 흘리며 죽는다고 했다. 그 말을 듣고 성경에 적힌 말씀 그대로다 라고 생각이 되었다. 보통 사람이 죽을때 죽음의 공포에 사로잡혀 벌벌 떠는것이 본성이다. 예수님께서는 전혀 그런것이 없었다고 나온다. 담대하게 어린양처럼 죽음을 맞이 하셨다고 나온다. 벧전 2:23 에 보면, “욕을 당하시되 맞대어 욕하지 아니하시고 고난을 당하시되 위협하지 아니하시고 오직 공의로 심판하시는 이에게 부탁하시며.” 라고 나와있다. 내가 너희들에게 무슨 죄를 지었기에 이렇게 하느냐 이런 말씀 전혀 하지 않으셨다. 너희가 내가 누군지 알고, 하나님의 아들인 내게 이런 짓을 하느냐 이런 말씀 하지 않으셨다. 왜냐하면 그 죽음을 자원 하셨기 때문이다. 참 놀라운 사건이다.
2) 고난받는 이유 The reason for the Passion
사 Isaiah 53:8
마 Matthew 26:63-66
8절 말씀 보겠다, “그는 곤욕과 심문을 당하고 끌려 갔으나 그 세대 중에 누가 생각하기를 그가 살아 있는 자들의 땅에서 끊어짐은 마땅히 형벌 받을 내 백성의 허물 때문이라 하였으리요”. 이 곤욕이라는 것은 체포 당한것을 나타낸다. 심문을 당했다는것은 사람들이 유대 법에 절차에 따라 예수님을 두고 재판 했다는것을 말한다. 마태복음 26:63-66 말씀 보면 그 내용이 자세히 나온다, 법정에 있는 예수님에게 대제사장이 말한다, 네가 하나님 아들 그리스도인지 말하라. 그때 예수님께서 말씀 하시기를, “네가 말하였느니라 그러나 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이 후에 인자가 권능의 우편에 앉아 있는 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라 하시니”. 그리스도인지 말하라 라고 하니 네가 말한 그리스도가 바로 나다 라고 하는 부분이다. 내가 그리스도인것을 내가 재림해서 올때 하나님 우편에 앉아 구름타고 올것을 너희가 똑똑히 볼것이다 하시는것이다. 바로 내가 심판주로 다시 오게 될것이라는 것을 선포 하시는것이다. 그 말을 듣고 제사장이 옷을 찢으며 “보라 너희가 지금 이 신성 모독 하는 말을 들었도다” 라고 소리친다. 이것이 무슨 말인가. 아니, 이 나사렛 시골 촌놈이 하나님 아들이라고 떠든단 말이야? 하며 화를 내는것이다. 풍채나 행색에서 시골티가 나는 젊은 청년이 나타나서 내가 하나님 아들이다 하니 기가 막힌것이다. 그러니 마땅히 죽어야 할 자이다 생각 한 것이다. 그러니까 이 자를 어떻게 하면 좋겠느냐 사람들에게 물으니 사람들이 사형 받아 마땅하다 한것이다. 이스라엘 사람들에게 신성모독은 큰 죄이기 때문에 그렇다. 그런데 그 분이 정말 하나님의 아들 이었다는 사실을 그들은 알지 못했다. 사람들이 겉만 보고 모든것을 판단 하기 쉬운데 정말 큰 실수를 한것이다. 여기서 중요한 말씀 한다, “누가 생각하기를 그가 살아 있는 자들의 땅에서 끊어짐은 마땅히 형벌 받을 내 백성의 허물 때문이라 하였으리요” 이 땅에서 끊어진다는 것은 죽음을 말한다. 그 십자가에서 못박혀 죽는것이 마땅이 형벌 받을 내 백성의 허물 때문이라 하시는것이다. 여기서 “마땅히 형벌 받을 내 백성의 허물” 이라는 말은 마땅히 저주 받고 형벌 받아야 될 우리를 나타낸다. 우리에게는 태어나서부터 주어진 형벌이 있다. 이 형벌을 예수님이 대신 받을것 이라는것을 누가 알았을까. 성경의 가장 핵심이 바로 이 말씀이다. 여러분, 예수님께서 나를 위해 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가셨다 정말 믿으시는가. 내 마음속에, 영혼속에 아 예수님이 나를 위해 십자가에 못박히셨지, 그 때문에 내가 살았지, 이렇게 정말 믿으시는가. 그것을 느낀다는것이 예수님을 안다는 의미이다. 여러분이 정말 진정으로 그것을 느끼는것이 여러분이 하나님 자녀 되는 증거이다. 그렇게 안다는 것 자체가 성령역사 없이는 불가능하다. 성경의 전체 모든 내용이 하나님의 아들이 오셔 우리의 모든 문제 해결 하셨다는것이다. 수많은 사건, 일이 있어도 그 모든것이 가르키는것은 하나의 말씀이다. 그것이 진정으로 믿어진다? 그러면 끝나는것이다. 만일 정말 마음 가운데 느껴지지 않는다면 그 믿음을 달라고 정말 기도 하시라.
2. 고난받는 종의 죽음 The death of the Servant who suffered
1) 범죄자로 죽음 Death as a convict
사 Isaiah 53:9, 6
요 John 19:38
눅 Luke 23:50-51
오늘 9절 말씀 보시라, “그는 강포를 행하지 아니하였고 그의 입에 거짓이 없었으나 그의 무덤이 악인들과 함께 있었으며 그가 죽은 후에 부자와 함께 있었도다.” 여기서 강포를 행하지 아니하였다는 말은 이 땅에 살면서 전혀 악한 일을 행하지 않으셨다는 말이다. 그의 입에 거짓이 없었으나 이 말은 평생에 단 한번도 거짓말을 하지 않으셨다는것이다. 모든 인간은 사는동안 단 한번이라도 거짓말을 할수밖에 없다. 그러나 하나님의 아들은 그런일이 전혀 없었다. 한마디로 그분은 죄가 전혀 없으신 분 이었다는것이다. 롬 6:23 말씀 보면, “죄의 삯은 사망” 이라고 나와있다. 여기서 사망 이라는것은 육신의 죽음만을 이야기 하는것이 아니다. 성경에서 말하는 사망은 하나님을 떠난것을 말한다. 다르게 말해 영원히 지옥의 갈 운명 이라는 것이다. 하나님의 은혜와 전혀 상관이 없는 영원히 지옥불 속에 들어갈수밖에 없는 사망 속에 너희가 빠져 있었다 이 말이다. 그러니까 예수님은 죽을 분이 아니었다. 죄가 없으시기 때문이다. 오히려 죽으시면 안된다. 더군다나 하나님 떠난것이 죄 인데 그분은 하나님 본인 이시다. 하나님이 하나님 자신을 떠날수 없기 때문에 죄인이 되실수 없다. 그런데 “그의 무덤이 악인들과 함께 있었다” 했다. 무슨 말인가. 그가 죄인으로 십자가에 못박혀 죽으셨음을 말한다. 이게 왜 그런가. 그것이 바로 나의 죄 때문에 그렇다. 그의 십자가 자리는 바로 내가 있을 자리었는데 예수님께서 대신 올라가신것이다. 이사야 53:6에 하나님께서 말씀 하신다, “우리는 다 양 같아서 그릇 행하여 각기 제 길로 갔거늘 여호와께서는 우리 무리의 죄악을 그에게 담당시키셨도다”. 그분은 악인이 아니었다. 오히려 죄가 전혀 없었다. 우리가 악인 이었고 우리가 죽어야 마땅한데 예수님께서 악인을 자처 하신것이다. 왜 그러한가? 우리의 모든 죄악과 악을 하나님께서 예수님께 담당 시키셨기 때문이다. 놀라운 하나님의 사랑을 발견할수 있다. 하나님께서 우리를 구원 하시기 위해 자기의 친 아들 되시는 예수님에게 모든 죄를 담당 하시게 하신것이다. 여러분, 하나님의 사랑은 도저히 생각을 해도 이해 할수가 없다. 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시며 모든 죄를 담당하신 주님의 숭고한 희생은 우리가 생각조차 할수 없는것이다. 단지 한가지 목적인것이다. 저와 여러분을 살리기 위해. 이 말씀 깊이 간직 하시기 바란다. 마지막 말씀 보면 그가 죽은 후에 부자와 함께 있었다 했다. 이 부자에 대해서는 많은 신학자들이 아리마대의 요셉이다 라고 주장한다. 요19:38 말씀 보면, “아리마대 사람 요셉은 예수의 제자이나 유대인이 두려워 그것을 숨기더니 이 일 후에 빌라도에게 예수의 시체를 가져가기를 구하매 빌라도가 허락하는지라 이에 가서 예수의 시체를 가져가니라.” 이 말씀 보면 아리마대 요셉은 예수님의 제자다 라는것이다. 유대인들이 두려워 예수님의 제자인것을 표를 못낸것이다. 그런데 예수님께서 십자가에 돌아가시는 모습을 보고 결단 한것이다. 내가 예수님의 시체를 거두어들여야겠다. 그렇게 빌라도 총독에게 가서 예수의 시체를 내가 거둘테니 내놓아라 라고 요구를 한것이다. 그러니 빌라도가 그의 이야기를 듣고 허락해주었다 라고 나온다. 이 아리마대 요셉은 어떤 사람이었는가. 눅 23:50-51, “공회 의원으로 선하고 의로운 요셉이라 하는 사람이 있으니” 빌라도가 그에게 예수님의 시체를 쉽게 내놓은 이유는 공회 의원으로 높은 지위에 있는 자 였기 때문이다. 그런데 이 사람이 어떤 사람인지 51절에 나온다, “하나님의 나라를 기다리는 자라.” 메시아를 기다리고 사랑했던 자 이다. 하나님께서는 이 사람을 축복 하셨다. 예수님의 거룩한 시체를 아리마대 요셉에게 허락 하신것이다. 그리고 이야기 하기를 그가 준비한 무덤에 장사 되었다 라고 나온다. 예수님의 마지막 몸을 친히 거두고 그를 보관하고 안식을 주는 놀라운 축복을 받은 이가 바로 아리마대 요셉 이었다. 공회 위원 가운데 믿음으로 하나님을 사모하는 사람을 부르셔서 그를 사용하신것을 볼수가 있다. 마지막 몸에 헌신할수 있는 어마어마 한 축복을 그가 받게 된것이다.
2) 죽으심의 의미 The meaning of His death
갈 Galatians 3:13-14
요 John 3:14-15
엡 Ephesians 2:5-6
여기서 우리가 예수님의 죽으심의 의미를 다시 한번 붙잡아야겠다. 갈 3:13-14, “그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 저주를 받은 바 되사 율법의 저주에서 우리를 속량하셨으니 기록된 바 나무에 달린 자마다 저주 아래에 있는 자라 하였음이라”. 조금전에 말씀한것이 또 여기에 나온다. 우리를 위하여 저주를 받으셨다고 이야기 하는것이다. 율법의 저주 아래 있는 우리 위해 저주를 받으셨다. 저주 받는 우리가 있는 십자가에 자리에 그분이 올라가셨다 말한다. 나를 위해 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 주님을 항상 잊으면 안된다. 항상 주님을 생각하며 감사함으로 나아가야한다. 그리고 이것을 믿는자는 어떻게 되는가, 15절 말씀에 “이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 아브라함의 복이 이방인에게 미치게 하고 또 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 말미암아 성령의 약속을 받게 하려 함이라.” 아브라함은 이방인 이었다. 우상숭배자 였다. 하나님께서 그를 먼저 부르시고 믿음의 조상되게 하신것이다. 그렇게 복의 근원이 되게 하셨다. 이것은 뭔가. 우리에게도 아브라함의 어마어마한 축복이 있게 하시려고 그러했다 이 말이다. 15절 마지막 말씀에, “믿음으로 말미암아 성령의 약속을 받게 하려 함이라.” 성령을 우리가 받게 되는것을 말하는것이다. 우리가 받을 최고의 축복이 예수님이 받으실 성령을 우리가 받는것이다. 십자가 선지자 사역의 참의미가 이것이다. 두번째, 요3:14-15이다, “모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리니 15 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라.” 이 장대에 놋뱀을 매달은것이다. 예수님의 십자가 통해 사단이 멸망 당하는것을 말하는것이다. 왜냐, 세상은 죄악의 뱀, 사단에 물려 죽어가는것이다. 예수님께서 대신 돌아가심으로 모든 사단의 세력 꺾으신것을 말하는것이다. 이제는 그것을 바라보기만 하면, 믿기만 하면 사는것이다. 예수님의 제사장 사역은 어마어마한것이다. 우리는 아무것도 하지 않고 그저 믿기만 하면 사는것이다. 세번째 엡2:5-6이다, “허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희는 은혜로 구원을 받은것이라). 6 또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 하늘에 앉히시니.” 예수 그리스도를 영접 하는순간 예수님과 함께 사는것이다. 우리 죽었던 몸, 죄악의 몸이 일어나 함께 사는것이다. 비록 이 땅에 지금 살지만 예수님 안에서 함께 하늘의 보좌에 앉는것을 나타낸다. 이미 이 땅에서 왕으로서 하나님의 보좌의 축복을 누릴수 있는 권세가 있는것이다. 예수님의 죽으심의 의미가 바로 이것이다.
3. 그리스도의 비밀 The mystery of Christ
1) 기도의 비밀 The mystery of prayer
빌 Philippians 4:2
왕하 2 Kings 6:17
그럼 여기서 우리가 그리스도의 비밀을 잡아야겠다. 이렇게 엄청난 일을 행하시는데 우리가 잡을것이 뭔가. 먼저 기도의 비밀을 잡아야한다. 골4:2, “기도를 계속 하고 기도의 감사함으로 깨어있으라”. 우리 모든 신분과 권세 축복 누리기 위해서는 기도를 계속 해야하는것이다. 주님과 깊은 교제 속에 모든것이 다 이루어지는것이다. 모든것에 감사할수 있다. 우리가 입술로 이야기 할것이 감사 말고 뭐가 더 있는가. 주님께서 모든것, 저주 이미 다 해결하셨으니 말이다. 그런데 기도를 하면 그것으로 끝나지 않고 엄청난 보좌의 축복을 주신다 왕하 6:17, “기도하여 이르되 여호와여 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그 청년의 눈을 여시매 그가 보니 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀더라.” 저는 분명히 엘리사가 누린 보좌의 축복과 권세가 여러분에게도 임할줄 믿는다. 이미 가진줄 믿는다. 여러분들 주위에는 기도할때마다 하늘 군대가 동원되는 역사가 분명히 일어나고 있다.
2) 재앙을 막는 비밀 The mystery to block disasters
골 Colossians 4:3-4
우리가 재앙 막는 이 비밀을 붙잡아야겠다. 골4:3-4, “또한 우리를 위하여 기도하되 하나님이 전도할 문을 우리에게 열어 주사 그리스도의 비밀을 말하게 하시기를 구하라 내가 이 일 때문에 매임을 당하였노라. 4 그리하면 내가 마땅히 할 말로써 이 비밀을 나타내리라.” 사도바울은 항상 고민 한것이 이 재앙의 빠진 사람들을 어떻게 구원할까 였다. 이 뱀, 사단에 물려 죽어가는 사람들을 어떻게 구원할까. 이걸 알기 위해서는 그리스도의 비밀을 붙잡아야 하는것이다. 재앙 막는 길은 그리스도 뿐이다. 그리스도가 유일한 해답 되신다.
3) 참된 위로의 비밀 The mystery of true comfort
골 Colossians 4:8, 2:2-3
또 우리가 꼭 잡을것은 참된 위로의 비밀이다. 골4:8, “내가 그를 특별히 너희에게 보내는 것은 너희로 우리 사정을 알게 하고 너희 마음을 위로하게 하려 함이라” 사도바울이 항상 생각 한것이 죽어가는 세상, 재앙에 빠진 세상을 어떻게 살릴것인가 하는 것이였다. 그래서 모든것에 이 목적을 가지고 해답을 주고 위로아 평안을 주는것이 사도바울의 모든 목적 이었다. 지난번 1부 예배에서 들으셨을줄 믿는다. 꼭 잡으시기를 바란다. 내가 사람을 살리게 되면 그 사람은 나를 영원히 기억하게 될것이다. 내가 만일에 사람을 죽이면, 그의 잘못을 붙잡고 죽여도 그 사람이 나를 영원히 기억한다. 내가 죽인 그 사람은 결국 평생의 나의 원수가 되는것이다. 모든 사람을 살려야 한다. 그래서 골 2:2-:3 에 이야기 하고있다, “그 안에는 지혜와 지식의 모든 보화가 감취어 있느니라.” 예수 그리스도 안에 하나님의 참 위로가 들어있다. 예수 그리스도 통해 모든 삶이 다 살아날수 있다. 이 축복 받는 여러분 되시기를 예수님의 이름으로 축원한다.
결론 Conclusion
골 Colossians 4:6
말씀 맺겠다. 골4:6, “너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 맛을 냄과 같이 하라 그리하면 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알리라.” 소금 이라는것은 썩지 않게 하는 역할을 한다. 맛을 내는 역할을 한다. 무슨 말인가, 어디를 가든지 누구를 만나든지 살려내는 일을 하라는 말이다. 너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데 생각 하라는것이다. 말 할때마다 항상 살려야겠다 하는 말만 하라는것이다. 그러면 하나님께서 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 것을 알게 해주겠다 하셨다. 그것은 하나님의 소원이니 그러하다. 예수님이 그것 때문에 돌아가셨으니 그러하다. 바로 그것이 그리스도의 비밀이다. 이 축복 누리시는 여러분 되시기를 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 축원한다.
The Mystery of the Passion of the Lord's Servant (Isaiah 53:7-9)

“7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 9 And they made His grave with the wicked-- But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.”
Introduction
In 1835, a man visited a hospital in Florence, Italy. This man suffered from severe anxiety, depression, and insomnia. When a doctor examined him, his diagnosis was that his body was in a healthy state but they discovered that his mental state needed more joy and he needed more excitement in his life. The doctor recommended that he visit a circus in his city and to go see that clown in the circus. The doctor recommended the person to visit this clown and he will be cured of his mental depression. The doctor sincerely recommended this to this man but the man responded, “No, that person cannot help me because I am that clown.” There are so many diseases and disasters that doctors and science cannot heal and overcome. A mankind’s problem, only Jesus Christ can solve them. The doctor should’ve told the clown and the person that he needed Christ. Today’s Biblical scripture is about the words of Isaiah that speaks about the life and coming of Jesus Christ. I told you that Jesus Christ is the answer to all of your problems but do you know Jesus Christ? May today be a day where you can come to accurately know about Jesus Christ.
1. The Passion of the Servant
1) The silent Servant
Verse 7 - It talks about oppression but the content of this oppression means that Jesus Christ will sacrifice His body. Jesus Christ allowed all the suffering to His body to happen. Jesus Christ was willing to accept the suffering and agony. Jesus Christ did not oppress and object any of the suffering and agony that came upon Him as He was crucified to the cross. To what extent did Jesus not object to any of this? When an animal is bought to be slaughtered, they try to do anything to escape. I heard the words of Pastor Sae-Beom Kim and he caught a lamb once to eat. But compared to other animals, lambs are very quiet when you catch them. When you catch them and kill them, they quietly die. You can see that the words and description in the Bible are true. When a normal person is about to die, they tremble in fear. But Jesus Christ did not show any fear or any objection. With boldness, He approached His death.
1 Peter 2:23 “Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.” - Jesus Christ didn’t object to His death and complained that He was sinless and that He didn’t deserve His death. Jesus Christ accepted His death and willingly died for us.
2) The reason for the Passion
Verse 8 - Jesus Christ was caught and captured, and put into prison.
Matthew 26:63-66 “But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, 'I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!' 64 Jesus said to him, 'It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.' 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, 'He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! 66 What do you think?' They answered and said, 'He is deserving of death.' ” - Jesus Christ was claiming that He was the Christ and the Son of God. How will people know that Jesus is the Christ? When He died on the cross, is crucified on the cross, and will resurrect. Not only that but He will come again for the second coming in clouds and descend to Earth from heaven. When the high priest heard the words of Jesus, they criticized Jesus for blasphemy. They were getting mad that Jesus was saying that He was the Son of God. The high priest was flabbergasted that this man came before him and was claiming that He was the Messiah and the Son of God. They were furious when they heard the words of Jesus and proclaimed that Jesus needed to be executed. They were killing the Son of God and they were going to nail Jesus to the cross. But they did not know that He truly was the Son of God and God, Himself. You can see that this was one of the greatest mistakes of mankind.
Jesus’ death on the cross was for mankind who were bound by sin and transgressions. The people who were bound by sin, curses, and transgressions were us. In order to solve all of this, Jesus Christ had to die for us. Who else can solve the sins of mankind? The core of the Bible is this. Jesus Christ died on the cross for me, do you believe in this? Do you truly believe in your heart and mind that Jesus Christ died on the cross and because of that, you are alive. If you believe and enjoy this then this means that you are a child of God and you know God. The fact that you know this means that the Holy Spirit is inside of you. You can only believe in this with the conviction of the Holy Spirit. The whole point of the Bible was to explain that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and for mankind. If you truly believe in this, then this is it. If you cannot enjoy this then you need to pray to have faith.
2. The Death of the Servant Who Suffered
1) Death as a convict
Verse 9 - From here, we can see that Jesus Christ was absolutely sinless. His entire life, there was no lies in His mouth. At least once in your lifetime, you will lie and will commit sin. But the Son of God had no sin and He was sinless.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - This is not only talking about physical death but death in the Bible means that you have been separated from God. This means that you are bound by the fate and destiny of hell. You had no choice but to go to hell after death and spend eternity in hell. The important thing here was that Jesus shouldn’t have had to die because there was no reason for Him to die. He didn’t have to die and He couldn’t die because He was God. But, His tomb was assigned to the wicked. This means that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. He did that for our sins. This should’ve been us nailed on the cross but Jesus died on our behalf.
Isaiah 53:6 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” - Jesus had no sin and He was not wicked at all. We were wicked and we were full of sins. We had to die but Jesus died for us instead. Why is that? Because Jesus bore all of our sins on our behalf. You can see the great love of God from here. You can see that God sacrificed His one and only Son, Jesus Christ for us. We cannot fathom the love of God. We cannot fathom the great love of Jesus as He died on the cross for us. Jesus did all of this to save us. May you come to understand this.
John 19:38 “After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.” - Joseph of Arimathea was a disciple of Jesus but he couldn’t show that he was His disciple because he was afraid of the Jews. After Jesus died on the cross, Joseph made a resolution to take the body of Jesus. So, after Jesus died, Pilate gave permission to Joseph to take the body of Jesus. Who was this Joseph of Arimathea?
Luke 23:50-51 “Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. 51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.” - The reason why Pilate allowed Joseph to take the body of Jesus was because Joseph held a high position in the council. It says here that he was waiting for the kingdom of God. He was a man who loved God. We can see that God blessed Joseph greatly. God allowed Joseph to take responsibility of the body of Jesus, the Son of God. Joseph placed Jesus’ body in the tomb. The last person who saw the body of Jesus was Joseph. He received this great blessing. Due to his faith, God used Joseph to take on this great role, responsibility, and receive this blessing. From here, we need to understand the meaning of the death of Jesus Christ.
2) The meaning of His death
Galatians 3:13-14 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” - I told you this before that Jesus received all of the curses of mankind for our sake. He took up the cross, Himself. We cannot forget about this. Whenever we think about God, we need to always give thanksgiving.
Galatians 3:14 - Abraham was a Gentile and was from an idol worshiping family. God called Abraham and allowed him to become a forefather of God’s covenant. God allowed great blessings to come upon Abraham. This means that God allowed this so that we can also receive the same blessings.
Because of faith, we received the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is the greatest gift and blessing that was given to us. This is the true role of the true Prophet that Jesus Christ fulfilled on the cross.
John 3:14-15 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” - On the cross, Jesus crushed the power of Satan. This was because this world was dying because of the power of Satan. But on the cross, Jesus completely crushed and broke the power of Satan. Then all we have to do is look towards the cross. This is the great role of Jesus Christ as the true Priest.
Ephesians 2:5-6 “Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” - The moment you accept Jesus Christ, you are able to live alongside Jesus. Your body is now resurrected as a glorious body. We are able to go to the heavenly throne with Jesus Christ.
3. The Mystery of Christ
1) The mystery of prayer
Colossians 4:2 “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” - We need to restore prayer to enjoy all of the blessings and answers that we possess. We need to restore our fellowship and relationship with God. If we are able to do this, then we are able to have thanksgiving. If we restore prayer, then God will grant us the blessing of the heavenly throne.
2 Kings 6:17 “And Elisha prayed, and said, 'Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.' Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” - I truly believe that the blessing of the heavenly throne that Elisha enjoyed, I truly believe that you possess this as well. When you pray, the power of the heavenly throne is working and upon you. You need to enjoy this.
2) The mystery to block disasters
Colossians 4:3-4 “Meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains. 4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” - Apostle Paul’s greatest concern was towards people and mankind who were in the midst of disasters and spiritual death. In order to know this and save others, we must understand and enjoy the power of Christ. Jesus Christ is the only unique answer.
3) The mystery of true comfort
Colossians 4:8, 2:2-3 “I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts. 2 That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ. 3 In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” - What the apostle Paul always thought about was the suffering and disasters of mankind, and he was always praying about this. This needs to be our direction for all things. Our direction needs to be giving comfort and peace to mankind. I am sure you heard this from the HQ 1st service but if you are able to save others then people will remember you forever. If you kill someone, then their spiritual death will remember you forever. Hold onto this. If you kill someone spiritually, then they will be in your hands forever. Let us try to save people.
Colossians 2:2-3 - Inside of Christ, there is eternal wisdom, knowledge, and comfort. Through Christ, all people can live. May you enjoy this blessing.
Conclusion
Hold onto Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” - Salt prevents food from rotting and preserves the food. This means that salt is able to save and preserve things. Always think about the grace of God. The words that you speak, may those words save others. If you do this, then God will give you the power and wisdom to save people. God will give you that answer and blessing. This is the mystery of Christ.
