맹세로 보증하신 축복(히6:17-20)
서론
미국 대통령 선거가 거의 끝났다. 이번에 선거 결과를 보면서 몇가지 생각이 났다. 나는 트럼프를 찍었다. 그 사람을 찍은 이후는 그 사람이 대통령이 되고 난 다음에 동성애나 뉴에이지 단체들이 조용해진 것을 보았다. 뿐만 아니라 크리스마스라는 말도 회복이 되고 영적으로 많은 것들이 회복되는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 지금 결과가 거의 안되는 것으로 된 것 같다. 저는 이것을 보면서 하나님께서 하셨구나 하는 마음이 들었다. 어떻게 본다면 영적으로 회복된 것 같지만 트럼프 때문에 세계복음화가 반대되는 일이 일어났다. 이민자를 붙잡아서 강제 추방시키고 강력한 반이민정책을 썼다. 이것은 유대인들이 행했던 민족주의 또는 선민주의와 똑같은 생각이다. 제가 보기에는 하나님 앞에서 겸손하지 못했다는 생각이 든다. 대통령이 되면 더 겸손한 모습을 보여줄 때 많은 사람들이 존경하고 따를텐데 그런 부분이 없었다. 자기 의견이 분명히 틀렸음을 알고있음에도 끝까지 인정하지 않았다. 많은 사람들이 코로나로 인해서 죽어가고 있는데 마스크를 쓰라는 한마디를 끝까지 하지 않다가 많은 사람들이 고통을 당했다. 어떤 희생 보다도 자기 주장, 자기 자존심만이 중요했다. 그래서 하나님께서 이렇게 하셨다는 마음이 들었다. 그런데 또 하나 분명한 사실은 미국은 앞으로 영적으로 더욱 나빠질 것이다. 그런데 이것은 성경에서 나타나고있는 역사의 흐름 가운데서 찾아볼 수 있다. 많은 사람들이 더욱 영적, 정신 문제에 시달려서 고통 속으로 들어갈 것이다. 우리는 이것을 영적인 눈으로 바라봐야겠다. 이 순간에 하나님의 최고의 관심은 무엇일까? 저는 분명 하나님의 최고의 관심은 여러분들에게 있는 줄로 믿는다. 이 문제와 위기를 해결할 수 있는 방법은 오직 그리스도 밖에 없기 때문이다. 이 흑암과 싸워서 승리할 수 있는 방법은 오직 그리스도밖에 없다. 그래서 우리가 더욱더 복음 안에서 그리스도 안에서 승리해야할 줄로 믿는다. 오늘 말씀은 우리에게 대단히 중요한 말씀이다.
1. 약속하시는 하나님
1) 약속을 기업으로 받는 자들
히 6:17 하나님은 약속을 기업으로 받는 자들에게 그 뜻이 변하지 아니함을 충분히 나타내시려고 그 일을 맹세로 보증하셨나니
여기서 약속을 기업으로 받는 자들이라는 말이 나타난다. 이 기업이라고 하면 우리말로 하면 회사, 일하는 것으로 생각할 수 있다. 그런데 여기서는 기업이 그런 의미가 전혀 아니다. 영어를 보면 상속자, 유산을 이야기한다. 이 말씀은 약속을 유산으로 받는 자들이라 하는 의미를 갖고있다. 약속을 유산으로 받는 자가 무슨 말인가. 하나님의 언약을 잡은 하나님의 자녀를 의미한다. 이들이 바로 하나님의 상속자가 될 것이라고 한다. 이 기업에 대해서 아주 잘 설명해준 성경구절이 있다.
엡 1:18 너희 마음의 눈을 밝히사 그의 부르심의 소망이 무엇이며 성도 안에서 그 기업의 영광의 풍성함이 무엇이며
여기서 보면 그 기업의 영광의 풍성함이라는 말이 나온다. 이것은 믿음의 상속자에게 주시는 영광이 어마어마하다는 것을 나타낸다. 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 은혜와 사랑은 이루 말할 수 없다. 하나님께서 아무 요구하신 것도 없이 하나님의 아들을 이 땅에 보내셨다. 인간의 모든 죄를 담당하시고 돌아가셨다. 그러면 그 아들되신 예수님은 어떤가. 아들되신 예수님은 인간의 모든 죄를 위해 기꺼이 생명을 바치셨다. 그럼 성령님은 어떠신가. 예수님께서 받으신 상속자된 신분과 권세를 마음껏 누릴 수 있도록 계속 성령으로 역사하시고 도와주신다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 이루 말할 수 없는 축복을 부어주셨다. 자기 아들까지도 우리를 위해서 버리셨는데 뭐가 아까워서 다른 것을 못 주시겠는가. 모든 것을 다 주시겠다는 것이 바로 하나님의 계획이다. 그래서 그 계획을 기업으로 받는 자들에게 주신다는 것이다. 또 17절 마지막에 보면 그 뜻이 변하지 아니함을 충분히 나타내시려고 맹세로 보증하셨다고 나온다. “내가 내 아들까지 희생시키면서 기업을 다 주려고 하는데 못 믿겠느냐” 하며 맹세하시는 것이다. 약속하시고 맹세하시고 반복적으로 말씀을 주신다. 성경을 보게되면 하나님께서 반복하시는 약속을 많이 볼 수 있다.
2) 하나님의 반복된 약속
구약 성경을 보게되면 예수님께서 이 땅에 오실 것이다 하고 예언하신 말씀이 455번 나타난다. 틀림없이 오신다는 것이다. 중요하신 말씀은 반복적으로 각인시켜주셨다. 주기도문이나 산상수훈은 복음서마다 반복적으로 나타났다. 성경에 계속 이야기하는 것이 예수님이 고난 받으실 것이다, 또 십자가에서 죽으실 것이다, 부활하실 것이다, 재림하실 것이다 하는 것을 계속 반복적으로 말씀하셨다. 이것은 반드시 일어난다, 반드시 성취될 것이다 하는 것을 나타낸다. 우리가 응답받는 것은 굉장히 쉽다. 성경에서 반복되는 내용을 언약으로 잡고 기도하게되면 응답을 확실하게 받을 수 있다. 하나님께서 충분히 나타내시려고 맹세하셨다는 것이다. 그 뿐 아니라 18절에는 하나님이 거짓말을 하실 수 없는 분이라고 나와있다.
2. 맹세하시는 하나님
1) 거짓말 하실 수 없는 분
히 6:18 이는 하나님이 거짓말을 하실 수 없는 이 두 가지 변하지 못할 사실로 말미암아 앞에 있는 소망을 얻으려고 피난처를 찾은 우리에게 큰 안위를 받게 하려 하심이라
하나님은 절대로 못하시는 것이 있는데 그것이 거짓말이다.
민 23:19 하나님은 사람이 아니시니 거짓말을 하지 않으시고 인생이 아니시니 후회가 없으시도다 어찌 그 말씀하신 바를 행하지 않으시며 하신 말씀을 실행하지 않으시랴
하나님은 거짓말을 할 줄 모르신다. 하나님께서 성경에 약속하신 것은 반드시 이루실 수 밖에 없다. 성경에는 1260개의 하나님의 약속이 있다고 한다. 그러니까 그 약속 가운데 내가 하나만 잡아도 그것은 반드시 응답이 되는 것이다. 그 말씀하신 바를 행하지 않으시며 하신 말씀을 실행하지 않으시랴 했다. 우리가 이 언약의 말씀을 확실히 붙잡고 기도하게 되면 틀림없이 응답하시는 것이다. 하나님께서 하신 말씀을 잡고 기도하면 반드시 이루어진다 확신을 갖고 기도하면 된다. 응답받으시기 바란다. 어려운 것이 아니다. 오늘 성경에서 거짓말을 하실 수 없는 두 가지 변하지 못할 사실이 있다고 한다. 맹세로 보증하신 두가지가 있다는 것이다.
2) 맹세로 보증하신 두가지
첫번째는 히 1:2 말씀이다.
히 1:2 이 모든 날 마지막에는 아들을 통하여 우리에게 말씀하셨으니 이 아들을 만유의 상속자로 세우시고 또 그로 말미암아 모든 세계를 지으셨느니라
첫번째 하신 약속은 아들을 이 세상의 모든 만유의 상속자로, 후대로 세우셨다는 것이다. 이것이 하나님께 대단히 중요한 사건이다. 두번째는 히 5:10이다.
히 5:10 하나님께 멜기세덱의 반차를 따른 대제사장이라 칭하심을 받으셨느니라
상속자로 세우심을 받은 예수님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 인간을 구원하시기 위해 실제 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시면서 모든 구원의 역사를 이루셨다. 죽으심과 부활을 통해서 완전히 참 대제사장이 되셨다는 것이다. 예수님께서 부활하셔서 인간의 모든 문제를 해결하신 참 제사장이 되심으로 하나님께서 계획하셨던 영원한 상속자의 직분을 감당한 것이다. 상속자로 세우신 이유가 무엇인가. 인간들을 같은 상속자로 세우시기 위해서 주님께서 그런 일을 하셨다. 예수님께서 하나님의 상속자가 되심으로 말미암아 우리도 소망을 가질 수 있게되었다. 주님과 같은 상속자가 될 수 있구나 하는 소망을 갖게된 것이다. 그래서 말씀하신다. 소망을 얻으려고 피난처를 찾은 우리에게 큰 안위를 받게 하려 하심이라. 어려운 가운데서 답을 찾지 못해서 헤매던 인간에게 확실한 답을 주셨는데 그것이 바로 우리가 피난처를 찾게된 것이다. 피난처를 찾게된 이유가 그리스도께서 상속자가 되셨기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 우리는 어떤 문제가 오더라도 아무 걱정할 것이 없다. 피난처를 찾은 우리에게 큰 안위를 받게하려 하심이라는 것이다. 이 축복받는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 우리는 앞으로 어떤 것도 걱정할 필요없다. 우리 소망되신 그리스도께서 모든 것을 완성하셨기 때문에 우리는 따라가기만 하면 된다.
3) 우리의 소망
히 6:19 우리가 이 소망을 가지고 있는 것은 영혼의 닻 같아서 튼튼하고 견고하여 휘장 안에 들어 가나니
이 소망을 가지고 있는 것은 영혼의 닻과 같다는 것이다. 닻은 배를 세울 때 내리는 것이다. 그 배가 서있을 때 닻을 내려놓게 되면 어떤 폭풍이 오더라도 떠내려가지 않고 견고하게 서있을 수 있다. 1만톤짜리 배는 닻이 1톤정도가 된다고 한다. 그 큰 배가 1톤 밖에 안되는 갈고리를 땅에 박아놓으면 만 배나 되는 배가 떠내려가지 않고 견고하게 서있다는 것이다. 오늘 말씀하고 계신다. 이 소망을 갖고있는 것은 영혼의 닻과 같다는 것이다. 우리의 소망은 바로 내 영혼의 닻인데 닻은 바로 예수 그리스도를 나타낸다. 어떤 문제가 온다고 하더라도 우리를 견고하게 붙잡으실 수 있는 분이 예수 그리스도인 것이다. 우리 믿음이 연약하고 부족해서 가끔 흔들릴 수도 있다. 그러나 우리를 꼭 붙들고 있는 닻이 있기 때문에 절대로 떠내려가지 않는다. 튼튼하고 견고하여 휘장 안에 들어 가나니. 휘장 안은 바로 하나님이 계신 곳을 나타낸다. 우리가 직접 하나님을 만날 수 있는 축복이 주어진다는 것이다. 인간이 받을 수 있는 최고의 영광은 하나님을 만나는 것이다. 우리가 대통령을 만나도 영광스러워하는데 하나님을 만난다면 그보다 영광스러운 일은 없다. 우리가 이 세상을 살다가 주님을 만나면 우리는 자녀로서 상속자로서 하나님을 만날 수 있다. 하나님의 상속자된 자녀가 천국에 입성할 때는 수많은 천사들이 박수치면서 환영한다. 왜 그런가. 우리는 하나님의 자녀니까. 더군다나 상속자니까. 담대하게 천국에 입성하게 되는 것이다. 이 모든 것이 그리스도의 사랑을 통해서 이루어진 것이다.
3. 사랑하시는 하나님
1) 그리스도의 사랑
히 6:20 그리로 앞서 가신 예수께서 멜기세덱의 반차를 따라 영원히 대제사장이 되어 우리를 위하여 들어 가셨느니라
우리 그리스도께서는 멜기세덱의 반차를 따라서 영원한 대제사장이 되셨다. 이것은 아론보다 더 높은 가문을 통해서 났다는 것이다. 당시 대제사장되는 아론의 가문보다 더 높은 가문은 하나님 가문이다. 하나님의 가문에서 오셔서 모든 희생물이 되시고 제사장이 되셔서 성취하시고 하늘로 가셨다. 오셔서 그냥 천국에 가신 것이 아니라 우리 모든 죄를 완전히 해결하시고 가셨다. 20절 마지막에 보면 우리를 위하여 들어가셨다고 나온다. 얼마나 그리스도의 극진한 사랑을 발견할 수 있는가. 예수님이 이 땅에 오신 것도, 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 것도, 천국에 들어가신 것도 우리를 위해서 하신 것이다. 왜 우리를 위해서 들어가셨는가. 우리를 상속자로 세우기 위해서이다. 단순히 죄 문제만 해결하신 것이 아니라 완전한 상속자로 세우기 위해서 기쁨으로 들어가셨다는 것이다. 꼭 잡아야할 것이 그리로 앞서가신 예수님이라는 말씀이다. 예수님께서 먼저 들어가셨다는 것이다. 앞장 서서 먼저 들어가신 것이다. 예수님께서 가시면서 대로를 만들어놓으신 것이다. 하나님께서 홍해를 가르시고 이스라엘 백성들이 다 지나갔듯이 예수님께서 대로를 만들어놓으셨다. 모든 믿는 사람들은 다 들어갈 수 있는 것이다. 얼마나 큰 축복인가. 바로 그리스도 때문에 그렇게 된 것이다.
살전 4:17 그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라
예수님께서 재림하실 때에는 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나서 하늘로 들린다. 이것도 성경에서 여러군데 이야기하고 있다. 틀림없이 이루어질 것이다. 그 이후에는 살아남은 자들이 올라간다. 그 넒은 하늘에 믿음의 사람들이 하나같이 올라가는 것이다. 어떻게 올라가는가. 모두 다가 예수 그리스도를 믿는 자들이다. 오직 그리스도를 붙잡은 자들이다. 그 사람들은 한 명도 빠짐없이 올라가게 된다. 가장 영광스러운 하나님을 만나기 위해서 기쁨으로 올라가는 것이다.
요일 3:2 사랑하는 자들아 우리가 지금은 하나님의 자녀라 장래에 어떻게 될지는 아직 나타나지 아니하였으나 그가 나타나시면 우리가 그와 같을 줄을 아는 것은 그의 참모습 그대로 볼 것이기 때문이니
이것은 사도 요한이 쓴 말씀이다. 우리 사랑하는 자들아 우리가 하나님의 자녀가 아니냐는 것이다. 만일 그가 나타나시면 우리가 똑같다는 것이다. 예수님은 하나님의 상속자다. 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 부여받은 상속자이다. 그런데 오늘 말씀에 보니까 우리가 그와 같을 줄을 안다는 것이다. 상속자로서 모든 왕권을 갖게될 것이다. 이것을 기억하고 놓치지 말라는 것이다. 이 하나님의 엄청난 은혜를 붙잡아야할 줄로 믿는다. 초대교회에서는 이것을 꼭 붙잡고 가는 곳곳마다 승리했다. 많은 흑암이 무너지는 역사를 현장에서 볼 수 있었다. 바로 이것이 그리스도의 사랑으로 인해서 주어진 것이다. 우리가 다시 한 번 하나님의 사랑을 붙잡아야겠다.
2) 하나님의 사랑
말할 수 없는 사랑을 우리에게 베풀어주신다. 저는 하나님의 사랑을 생각할 때 마다 얼마나 감사하고 감격스러운지 모른다. 기도할 때 마다 감사하다는 말 밖에 안나온다. 모든 것을 다주셨다. 아들도 죽이셨다. 우리를 위해서. 그리고 상속자의 축복을 더하셨다. 아들만이 가질 수 있는 상속자의 축복을 주셨다. 어떻게 해서 그렇게 주셨는가.
출 39:14 이 보석들은 이스라엘의 아들들의 이름 곧 그들의 이름대로 열둘이라 도장을 새김 같이 그 열두 지파의 각 이름을 새겼으며
대제사장이 입는 흉패를 말하고있다. 이 흉패에는 가슴에 열 두 보석을 달았다. 세상에서 가장 귀중한 보석 열 두개를 달았다. 그런데 열 두 보석에는 열두 야곱의 아들들의 이름이 기록되어있다. 그냥 기록된 것이 아니라 도장처럼 팠다고 나온다. 그것을 목에 걸고있다. 이것을 놓고 대제사장이 하나님께 제사를 드리는 것이다. 하나님께서는 그 이름을 한 명도 빠짐없이 기억하고 계시는 것이다. 하나님 앞에서 하나님의 자녀는 누구나 다 보석과 같은 존재라는 것이다. 여러분 한 명 한 명은 하나님 앞에 너무나 귀한 보석같은 존재이다. 그런데 나는 하나님 앞에 설 수 없어 하는 사람도 있을 수 있다. 사람들이 자기 자신을 어떻게 생각하는지는 상관없다. 그래서 하나님께서는 보석같은 존재로 사랑하신다. 어느 정도로 사랑하시는가. 가슴에 이름을 새긴 것 처럼 하나님 마음에 하나 하나 기억하고 계신다. 더군다나 자기 아들되신 예수께서 우리를 위하여 돌아가셨다. 아들의 생명을 주고 사신 존재가 우리이다. 그리고 우리에게 어마어마한 하늘의 신분과 권세를 주셨다. 오늘 말씀에 이것을 맹세하셨다는 것이다. 믿는 순간에 이 응답의 역사가 나타날 줄로 믿는다. 이 축복을 정말로 누리시는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 여러분들은 상속자이다.
결론
빌 4:13 내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라
여러분들은 하나님의 자녀이다. 하나님의 상속자이다. 주님의 능력이 여러분들의 능력인 줄로 믿는다. 내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라. 승리하시는 여러분 되시기를 예수 그리스도 이름으로 축원한다.

“ 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. 19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. ”
Introduction
As you all know that the presidential election has ended and as I looked at the results, many thoughts came to my mind. I voted for President Donald Trump and the reason why I chose him was because while he was president, the ideas of New Age and Homosexuality has decreased, and he pushed more for the conservative ideas. Also he encouraged the word of Christmas and he also restored many of the spirituality and Christian roots. However, the results did not come to his favor for the second term. When I looked at this, I truly believed that God was the one who allowed this to happen. Spiritually thinking, many spiritual works arose through Donald Trump as well as throughout the world. One of the problems was his view regarding immigration and he caused many individuals to fall into fears and worries because of this topic. But this was the same nationalistic view that the Jews had. When I looked at this, I realized that Donald Trump wasn’t able to stand humbly before God. When you become president, many more people will follow you more when you become humble but Donald Trump failed to be a role model of this. He knew that his viewpoints were wrong but couldn’t acknowledge his wrongdoings till the end. Even though many people were dying because of the coronavirus and all he needed to do was tell people to wear masks but he couldn’t acknowledge the problem and as a result, many people ended up dying. As you know he kept his pride till the end. Therefore, I realized that it was God who allowed this to happen. Another point is that America will face more spiritual problems from now on and towards the future. It is already prophesied in the Bible and it is flowing according to what is being foretold in the Bible. Many people will face more spiritual problems and experience more suffering. We need to look at this spiritually. At this moment, we need to see where God’s greatest concern is? I truly believe that God’s greatest concern is in you. In order to solve this problem, it is only through Jesus Christ alone. The method to overcome Satan and to be victorious is through Christ alone. That is why we must all enter into the gospel and Christ, and be victorious. In today’s Scripture, it contains a very important message.
1. God Who Promises
1) Those who inherit the promise
Verse 17 - It speaks about heirs. When we speak about an heir, we think about the individuals who will take over the company or a status but here, it is referring to something different. The heir is meaning inheritance like within a family inheritance. it says that the people who are the heirs of the promise. What does it mean to be an heir of the promise? We are referring to the children of God who will receive God’s covenant. This is what it means to be God’s heir.
There is a scripture in the Bible that explains this very well in Ephesians 1:18 (“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”) - This means that the glory given to the heirs of God are tremendous and enormous. The grace and love that God has given to us is something that we cannot measure. Without any condition, God sent us His one and only Son, Jesus Christ to Earth. When Jesus came to Earth, He came and died for our sins. Jesus died and gave His life for us to give us forgiveness of our sins. In order to help the heirs of God and for us to enjoy the blessings and authority as children of God, God has given us the Holy Spirit. We can see that God has poured down tremendous blessings upon us. God sent us His Son so how much more is God is willing to give to us? God is basically saying that He will give everything to us and that is God’s plan for us. Those who are heirs will receive this blessing. God said that He will make an oath to keep His promise. In order to show us that He will keep His promise, God made an oath with us to make us His heirs and to bless us.
2) God's repeated promise
We can see that many times in the Bible where God gives repeated blessings. In the Old Testament, it is written 455 times that God will send us His Son. This means that Jesus Christ will come. When Jesus Christ gave us these important messages, He would repeat this multiple times. Just like how Jesus Christ would repeat the Lord’s Prayer multiple times, He also said many times that He will suffer, die on the cross, and resurrect. This means that these things will absolutely happen and take place. When we look at this message, we can receive grace. The multiple repetitions in the Bible, if we hold onto them and pray with them then answers will absolutely come. God said that He made an oath.
2. God Who Take the Oath
1) He who cannot lie
Verse 18 - There is one thing that God cannot do and that is to lie.
Numbers 23:19 (“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”) - God doesn’t know how to lie. When God promises something, it will absolutely be fulfilled. In the Bible, it was already prophesied and promised 200 times which means when we hold onto one promise in the Bible, then it will absolutely be fulfilled within your life.
Numbers 23:19 - “…Will He not make it good?” - When we hold onto the promise of God and pray with it, then would God not answer it? When God speaks, His words will absolutely be fulfilled when you pray with assurance while holding onto HIs word. Receive answers. Receiving answers is not hard. Today’s scripture says that God will speak of two truths that will not change and that He cannot lie about.
2) Two things confirmed by oath
There are two oaths that God made.
The first oath is seen in Hebrews 1:2 (“Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.”) - The first promise that God has made was to appoint Jesus Christ as the heir who would pass along all of the blessings of heaven to the children of God. This was a tremendous event.
The second oath is Hebrews 5:10 (“Called by God as High Priest 'according to the order of Melchizedek.' ”) - Jesus Christ who was appointed as the heir, He came down to Earth to save mankind, died on the cross, and fulfilled the work of salvation. Through His death and resurrection, He fulfilled His role as the true Priest. He came down to solve the problems of mankind and fulfilled the original plan of God of becoming the eternal High Priest and heir. What was the reason why God appointed Jesus as the heir? It was so that the children of God will become the heirs as well. Just like when Jesus became the heir of God, we also became heirs of God. The means that we can hold onto the hope of becoming heirs of God.
3) Our hope
Verse 19 - Within problems, God has given us hope and refuge. We can find refuge within Christ. Because of that, no matter what problems come to us, there is nothing for us to worry about. We are able to enter into refuge now. May you receive blessings. There is nothing for you to worry about. Because Jesus Christ who is our complete hope and refuge, there is nothing for us to worry about but to just follow Him.
Verse 19 - When we hold onto this hope, then we can guarantee our soul of sureness and steadfastness. The anchor is referring to an anchor that holds a ship down. An anchor plays a role when a big storm or wave hits the ship, the anchor is able to hold the ship down and prevent it from moving. A ship usually weighs around 10 ship ton and anchor, 1 ton, which means 1 ton anchor is able to hold onto a 10 ship ton. This means that a ship will not waver no matter what happens when it is anchored down. When we look at today’s scripture, it says when we hold onto hope, we are able to have an anchor for our soul. Our hope which is an anchor to our soul is referring to Jesus Christ. When problems come, what we must hold onto is Jesus Christ alone. We may be weak and spiritually waver at times but what holds us down within any problem and situation is Jesus Christ.
“…Both sure and steadfast, and which enters the presence behind the veil” - This is referring to the place where God is. What does this mean? This means that we have been given the blessing to meet and be with God. The greatest glory that we have received as human beings is meeting God. When we meet the president, we may think it is such a glory but imagine when we meet God, it is such a tremendous glory. When we live within this world and meet God, we are able to meet God as his heirs. We who are His heirs, the angels of God will greet us with great joy and cheers in heaven. Why is that? We are children of God. We are heirs of God. We will enter heaven with boldness. What is all of this? This was able to happen through Jesus Christ and through His love.
3. God Who Loves Us
1) The love of Christ
Verse 20 - Jesus Christ followed the order of Melchizedek and became the High Priest. What does this mean? He was born into this world through a higher and renowned family line than the priest, Aaron. When you were in a more higher family line than Aaron, then you were considered as high as God. Jesus came though the family line of God, came to Earth as the true Priest, and returned back to heaven. He didn’t just return back to heaven but He first completely finished all our sins and then returned back to heaven.
Verse 20 - “Where the forerunner has entered for us” - This shows the tremendous and great love of God for us. The reason why Jesus Christ came to Earth was for us. The reason why He died on the cross was for you. He entered into heaven for you. Why did He do that? So that we can become heirs of God. Jesus didn’t just solve our sins but He appointed us as His heirs and entered back to heaven with great joy.
Verse 20 - “Where the forerunner has entered for us” - This is an important message that we must hold onto. Jesus Christ stood before us first. He was paving the pathway for us. Just like God who split the Red Sea and allowed the Israelites to enter into the land of Canaan, Jesus Christ also paved the way for us to go to heaven. Anyone who believes can enter into heaven. This is a tremendous blessing. This was possible because of Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 4:17 (“Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”) - When Jesus Christ returns for His second coming, the people who are already dead will resurrect first. This will absolutely happen. The second part will be the ones who are already alive. All of those who believe will rise to heaven. How will they rise to heaven? They will go up to heaven as the heirs of God. Those who believe in God and hold onto only Christ, every one of them will rise up to heaven. Why? To meet God. In order to meet the most glorious God, we will enter into heaven with great joy.
1 John 3:2 (“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”) - This was what John the Apostle said. John said that we are children of God and if that is so, then we will also enter into heaven just like Jesus. What does this mean? This means that Jesus is the heir of God and all of the authority and power was given to Jesus from God. Today’s scripture says that we are also heirs of God just like Jesus. We also possess the same authority and power of heaven. This is what we must hold onto and not lose hold of, this was what John the Apostle was reminding us. This is the great grace that we must receive. This was what the Early Church held onto and this was the reason why they received tremendous blessings and how they were able to break down darkness within their field. This was possible because God gave us His love.
2) God's love
This was within the remnant journal message. We must hold onto God’s love for us once again. God has given us love that is immeasurable. When I think about God’s love, I am so moved and it gives so much thanksgiving. Whenever I pray, I always give thanksgiving. God has given us everything. He gave us His son. He sacrificed His son for us. The blessing of being an heir that only His son would receive, God has given us the same inheritance as well. How did He give us His inheritance?
Exodus 39:14 (“There were twelve stones according to the names of the sons of Israel: according to their names, engraved like a signet, each one with its own name according to the twelve tribes.”) - This is talking about the breastplate that the high priest would wear. Within their breastplate, there were 12 jewels engraved onto them. They would engrave the 12 most rarest and precious jewels onto their breastplate. And, there would be 12 names inscribed onto those jewels, which were the 12 sons of Jacob and tribes. They would give sacrifices to God wearing this breastplate and God would remember each name. Before God, every one of us is considered as precious as a jewel. We are considered so precious to God just like a jewel. But we tell ourselves that we are so lacking and weak, and think it is impossible for us to be as precious as a jewel before God but God doesn’t care about how you think about yourself. God sees you as a jewel in His eyes.
How does God love us? Just like how the names were engraved within those breastplates, God has engraved our names within His heart. For us, we are so precious in God’s eyes. We are so precious that God has sent His one and only Son to save and die for us. He gave up His son’s life to give us life and save us. In return, He gave us tremendous authority and power of heaven. God made an oath that when you believe, then tremendous answers will be given to you. Truly be victorious. May you truly enjoy these blessings this week. You are heirs of God.
Conclusion
Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”) - You are children of God. You are heirs of God. The power of Jesus will become yours. You can do anything in Christ. May you be victorious within the name of Jesus Christ.
