“여호와의 종의 고난의 결과”

4 두려워하지 말라 네가 수치를 당하지 아니하리라 놀라지 말라 네가 부끄러움을 보지 아니하리라 네가 네 젊었을 때의 수치를 잊겠고 과부 때의 치욕을 다시 기억함이 없으리니
5 이는 너를 지으신 이가 네 남편이시라 그의 이름은 만군의 여호와이시며 네 구속자는 이스라엘의 거룩한 이시라 그는 온 땅의 하나님이라 일컬음을 받으실 것이라
6 여호와께서 너를 부르시되 마치 버림을 받아 마음에 근심하는 아내 곧 어릴 때에 아내가 되었다가 버림을 받은 자에게 함과 같이 하실 것임이라 네 하나님께서 말씀하셨느니라
7 내가 잠시 너를 버렸으나 큰 긍휼로 너를 모을 것이요
8 내가 넘치는 진노로 내 얼굴을 네게서 잠시 가렸으나 영원한 자비로 너를 긍휼히 여기리라 네 구속자 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라
9 이는 내게 노아의 홍수와 같도다 내가 다시는 노아의 홍수로 땅 위에 범람하지 못하게 하리라 맹세한 것 같이 내가 네게 노하지 아니하며 너를 책망하지 아니하기로 맹세하였노니
10 산들이 떠나며 언덕들은 옮겨질지라도 나의 자비는 네게서 떠나지 아니하며 나의 화평의 언약은 흔들리지 아니하리라 너를 긍휼히 여기시는 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라

제가 목사님으로 부터 칼럼 하나를 받았다. 1998년 미국 듀크 대학병원에 헤럴드 케니, 데이비드 라슨 이라는 두의사가 조사를 했다고 한다. 그 제목이 뭔가 하니 매주 주일 교회에 나와 찬송하고 감사하는 사람들과 그러지 않는 사람들의 차이가 무엇인가 하는것이다. 찬양을 드리는 사람이 그렇지 않은 사람보다 평균 7년정도 더 오래 사는 놀라운 결과를 찾았다. 존 헨리 라는 박사는 감사는 최고의 항암제요, 해독제요, 방부제 라고 이야기 했다. 실제 약 보다 더 대단한 효능을 가진것이 찬양과 감사 라는것이다. 저는 찬양을 통해 참 힘든 질병까지 치유 되었다는 그런 이야기를 들은적이 있다. 그분들의 조사의 의하면 1분동안 기뻐하며 찬양하며 감사하면 신체에 24시간동안 면역체가 강화 된다고 한다. 1분동안 화를 내면 6시간 동안 면역체가 소멸이 된다고 한다. 참 감사와 찬양도 영적으로 직접 연관이 된것으로 보인다. 하나님께서는 우리의 모든것 다 보고 계시고 알고 계시기 때문에 기뻐하는 삶을 보시게 되면 그만큼 더 축복을 하시는것 같다. 하나님 께서는 항상 여러분들을 어떻게 하면 축복 주실까 고민하시는 분이시다. 오늘도 말씀을 통해 큰 은혜 받으시는 귀한 시간 되시길 바란다. 말씀 통해 닫혔던 모든 문이 열리고 치유가 일어나는 귀한 시간이 되시기를 축원한다.
1. 만왕의 왕되신 하나님 God who is the King of kings
1) 해방시켜주신 하나님 God who delivers
사 Isaiah 54:4
지난 시간에는 하나님께서 십자가의 고난의 결과로 이방인들을 어떻게 구원하실것인가 하는 메시지를 주셨다. 오늘은 예수님의 고난의 결과로 이스라엘 백성들에게 어떠한 축복을 주셨는가 하는것을 말한다. 4절 말씀에 이스라엘 백성들에게 하시는 말씀이 나온다, “두려워하지 말라 네가 수치를 당하지 아니하리라”. 이 말씀을 보면 이스라엘 백성들이 그동안 수치를 당했음을 알수있다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성들이 강대국 바벨론에게 포로로 잡혀간 사실 자체다 수치이다 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 무슨 말씀인가. 하나님의 자녀가 세상 사람들에게 업신여김을 당하는것, 그것이 하나님 보시기에 수치이다 라는것을 말한다. 여러분, 이것은 가령 왕자가 길거리 가다가 초등학생같은 어린이에게 돈을 빼앗기는것과 매한가지 이다 라는것이다. 너는 하나님 자녀인데 어떻게 그런 일에 당하느냐 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 또, “놀라지 말라 네가 부끄러움을 보지 아니하리라” 라고 했다. 이스라엘 백성들이 포로로 잡혀간 것이 부끄러울 일 이라는것이다. 어마어마한 하나님의 자손들이 쇠고랑을 차고 채찍을 맞고 끌려가는 모습, 이것이 굉장히 부끄러운 일 이라고 하시는것이다. 다시 말해 하나님의 거룩한 백성이 마귀의 종 노릇 하는것, 그것이 굉장히 부끄러운 일 이라는것이다. 종노릇 하며 끌려다니며, 마귀에게 아버지, 아버지 하는것이 얼마나 부끄러운 일인가 하는 말씀이다. 그런 일을 당하는 이스라엘 백성들 향해, “네가 네 젊었을 때의 수치를 잊겠고 과부 때의 치욕을 다시 기억함이 없으리니” 말씀 하신다. 너희들을 완전히 해방시켜 다시는 이런 일 당하지 않게 하겠다 하시는것이다.
2) 만군의 여호와 하나님 The Lord God of hosts

왜 그렇나. 이는 5절에 나온다, “이는 너를 지으신 이가 네 남편이시라”. 너를 지으시고 부르신 이가 하나님 이시다 하는 말씀이다. 하나님은 무서운 하나님이 아니고 바로 남편 같은 하나님이다 하시는 말이다. 남편은 지극히 아내를 사랑하는 이로 극진한 사랑을 보이신다 라는 말이다. 사랑을 알려면 창세기 2:22 보면 알수 있다. 하나님 께서는 아담의 갈비뼈 빼내어 하와를 만드셨다. 뼈중의 뼈, 살중의 살이라 아담이 감격스런 마음으로 하와를 바라본다. 마 19:6에 예수님께서 말씀 하셨다, “그런즉 이제 둘이 아니요 한 몸이니 그러므로 하나님이 짝지어 주신 것을 사람이 나누지 못할지니라". 부부라는것은 절대 나누어 질수 없는 사이 인것이다. 내 갈비뼈를 놔두고 왜 남의 갈비뼈를 찾아 다니나. 부부라는것은 끊으려 해도 끊을 수 없는 관계를 말하는것이다. 그런 의미로 이스라엘 백성에게 나는 너의 남편이다 하신것이다. 창조전부터 우리는 하나님과 밀접한 관계가 있음을 알수있다. 창세기 2:7에 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 코에 불어넣으셨다. 여기 생기는 하나님의 영을 말한다. 욥기 27장에 보면 하나님의 영 이라고 분명히 말하고 있다. 하나님이 우리를 만드시고 우리의 코에 하나님의 영을 불어넣으신것이다. 세상 어떤 존재에도 하나님의 영이 들어간 적이 없는데 바로 우리에게 그것이 들어있다. 하나님의 영이 들어왔다는것은 얼마나 우리가 고귀한 존재인가 나타낸다. 하나님이 우리를 자기의 몸처럼 극진히 사랑 하시는 이유이다. 내 속에 있는것이 나간것이 아니냐, 아담과 하와 처럼 내가 너희의 남편이다 하시는 말씀이다. 그러면서 말씀 하시기를, “그의 이름은 만군의 여호와이시며”. 만군의 여호와 라는것은 여호와 체파우트 라고 기록되어있다. 사무엘상 10:45절에 다윗이 골리앗 앞에 “만군의 여호와의 이름으로 가니라” 할때 쓴 동일한 단어이다. 만군의 여호와의 이름 이라는것은 Almighty God, 모든 능력 중 능력 되시는 하나님의 이름으로 간다 이 뜻이다. 만왕의 왕 이라는 뜻은 싸울 상대가 없는 무적의 하나님 되심을 나타내는 말이다. 골리앗은 나아올때 자기의 신의 이름으로 나왔다. 다윗은 만군의 여호와의 이름으로 나아왔으니 상대가 되지 않는것이다. 당시에 싸움은 영적인 전쟁 이었다. 흑암, 어떤 사단, 마귀도 상대가 되지 않는다는것을 다윗은 고백한것이다. 사단과 흑암 세력이 강력해 보이지만 상대가 되지 않는다. 그러면서 “네 구속자는 이스라엘의 거룩한 이시라” 그 구속자가 이스라엘의 하나님 이다 라는것이다. 능력자 하나님께서 사단의 세력을 완전히 박살내심을 말한다. “그는 온 땅의 하나님이라 일컬음을 받으실 것이라” 하늘과 땅 모든것을 통치 하시는 능력의 하나님 이시라는것이다. Almighty 가지고도 설명이 안되고 Omipotent 한 하나님 되신것이다. 무한한 능력이다. 지구상의 모든 능력 다 합친들 하나님 앞에서는 비교가 되지 않는다. 그런 하나님이 바로 너의 구속자이며 남편 되심을 붙잡으라 하는것이다. 그 하나님께서 영으로 지금 우리 안에 계심을 믿는가. 이 언약 잡으면 우리는 어떠한 것도 두려워 하거나 무서워 할 이유가 없다.
2. 제사장 되신 하나님 God the Priest
1) 큰 긍휼의 하나님 God of great mercy
사 Isaiah 54:6-7
창 Genesis 3:15, 21
6절 말씀 보겠다, “여호와께서 너를 부르시되 마치 버림을 받아 마음에 근심하는 아내 곧 어릴 때에 아내가 되었다가 버림을 받은 자에게 함과 같이 하실 것임이라” 라고 말씀 하셨다. 남편으로써의 사랑과 긍휼을 베푸심을 다시 한번 말씀 하고있다. 버림 받은 아내라고 이야기 하고있다. 이스라엘 백성들이 어떠한 삶을 살았나. 남편이 싫다고 사기꾼, 마귀에 붙잡혀 따라간 이들이 이스라엘 이었다. 하나님의 사랑을 거절하고 마귀가 만든 우상이 좋다하며 따라간 정신나간 여자가 이스라엘이다. 하도 이상한 짓을 해서 한번 살아보라고 내버려두셨다가 다시 품으신것이다. 7절, “내가 잠시 너를 버렸으나 큰 긍휼로 너를 모을 것이요” 참 놀라운 하나님의 사랑을 볼수가 있다. 버렸으나 잠시 버렸다고 했다. 그리고 후에 큰 긍휼을 베푸신것이다. 그런데 성경에 보면 처음부터 그러신것을 알수있다. 창3:6절 보면 아담과 하와가 하나님의 말씀 불순종 하며 떠난것이 나온다. 하나님 떠난 인간에게는 저주와 재앙이 임할수 밖에 없다. 하나님은 그 사실 아시고 창3:15에 여자의 후손을 보내셨다. 하나님께서는 당신의 자녀를 끝까지 버린적이 한번도 없으시다. 사 50:1 말씀 보면 이스라엘 백성 향해 하신 말씀이 있다, “내가 너희의 어미를 내보낸 이혼 증서가 어디있느냐”, 이혼증서를 써버리면 완전히 그것으로 끝나는것이다. 다른 사람에게 시집가도 된다 허가 하면 끝나는것이다. 그런데 아내가 떠났음에도 불구하고 하나님께서는 이혼증서를 주지 않으시고 아직까지 너는 나와 관계있다-계속 가지고 계신것이다. 오히려 그들에게 큰 긍휼을 베푸신것을 볼수있다. 창3:21 말씀 보면 그들을 위해 가죽옷을 지어 입히셨다 되어있다. 인본주의 써서 무화과 잎으로 치마를 만들어 입었다. 그러나 해가 뜨니 그냥 말라버렸다. 하나님께서는 그들을 위해 양을 잡아 가죽을 만드셔서 영원히 수치를 가릴수 있게 하신것이다.
2) 구속자 되신 하나님 God the Redeemer
사 Isaiah 54:8
사 Isaiah 53:6
8절에 말씀 하신다, “내가 넘치는 진노로 내 얼굴을 네게서 잠시 가렸으나 영원한 자비로 너를 긍휼히 여기리라 네 구속자 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라” 하나님께서는 너무 화가 나신것이다. 그렇게 말씀 하셨는데 마네킹 같은 세상이 좋다고 쫗아 나간꼴이다. 너무 화가 나셔서 얼굴을 돌려 외면 하시는 말씀이다. 이럴수가 있는가 하며 외면 하신 모습이다. 그러나 하나님은 그래도 내 자식인데, 그래도 내 아내인데 하며 다시 뜻을 돌리시어 찾으셨다. 그래서 말씀 하신다, “영원한 자비로 너를 긍휼히 여기리라 네 구속자 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라” 헤셀 이라는 단어가 사용 되었는데 영원한 긍휼을 말한다. 끝까지 한이 없는 하나님의 동정심, 불쌍히 여기는 마음을 말한다. 하나님의 자비 하심에는 끝이 없다. 영원한 남편으로 영원한 아버지로 우리를 끝까지 사랑하시는 하나님의 모습이다. 그 사랑의 절정이 뭔지 아시는가. “네 구속자 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라” 하나님의 사랑의 절정은 바로 구속에 있다. 사 53:6, 모두의 죄악을 당신의 아들에게 담당 시키신것이다. 죄인들에게 맡기지 아니하고 아들에게 담당시키시어 죽게까지 하신것이다. 하나님의 자비하심이다. 이를 통해 우리가 죄사함을 받게 된것이다. 우리가 진심으로 하나님 앞에 감사하지 않을수가 없다.
3. 선지자 되신 하나님 God the Prophet
1) 화평의 언약을 주신 하나님 God who gives us the covenant of peace
사 Isaiah 54:9-10
창 Genesis 8:21
9절, “이는 내게 노아의 홍수와 같도다 내가 다시는 노아의 홍수로 땅 위에 범람하지 못하게 하리라 맹세한 것 같이 내가 네게 노하지 아니하며 너를 책망하지 아니하기로 맹세하였노니”. 하나님께서 성경 역사상 가장 화 나셨을때가 노아의 홍수 당시 였다. 인간이 부패를 해도 너무 해서 홍수로 다 쓸으셨다. 그러나 불쌍히 여기신 하나님께서 그 후로 맹세 하셨다. 창 8:21에 나온다, “내가 다시는 사람으로 말미암아 땅을 저주하지 아니하리니 이는 사람의 마음이 계획하는 바가 어려서 부터 악함이라”. 내가 이제 다시 심판 하지 않겠다 맹세 하시는것이다. 태어나서부터 저리 악함을 가지고 태어나는데, 어떻게 내가 심판 하겠나, 내가 붙잡아 줘야겠다 하시는것이다. 하나님의 공의대로 심판 하시면 살아 남을 자가 아무도 없기 때문이다. 그런데 지금도 홍수때와 같은 때다 하시는것이다. 지금이 너무나 죄악이 번영하고 부패된 상태다 하시는것이다. 그래서 하나님께선 포로 생활에 잡혀있던 이들에게 말씀하신다, 네게 노하지 아니하며 책망 하지도 않을것이다 맹세 하시는것이다. 왜 이렇게 참으시면서 이렇게 까지 하시나. 이것은 바로 하나님께서 하신 언약 때문이다. 원래 계획이 창세기 1:28이셨다. 아브라함에게 했던 창세기 12:1-3 모든 족속이 복을 받게 하시는것이 원래 목적 이시다. 이것을 성취 하시기 위해 노하시고 진노 하셨다가도 언약을 성취하시기 위해 참으시는것이다. 10절에 말씀 하신다, “산들이 떠나며 언덕들은 옮겨질지라도 나의 자비는 네게서 떠나지 아니하며”. 내가 너희를 불쌍히 여기는 마음은 절대 변하지 않을것이다 - 당신의 뜻을 이룰것임을 말한다. “나의 화평의 언약은 흔들리지 아니하리라 너를 긍휼히 여기시는 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라” 이 화평의 언약을 어떻게 이루시는지 겔 37:26에 이야기 한다, 내가 그들과 화평의 언약을 세워 영원한 언약이 되게 하고 또 그들을 견고하고 번성하게 하며 내 성소를 그 가운데 세워 영원히 이르게 하겠다 하셨다. 예수 그리스도 통해 영원한 화평을 이루도록 만드시겠다 이 말이다. 만민을 구원하시는 언약, 그것을 바로 이루시겠다 이 말이다. 나의 화평의 언약은 흔들리지 아니하리라. 하나님께서 반드시 이루실것 이라는 것이다. 예수 그리스도 십자가 통해 완전히 인간이 빠진 저주와 재앙 가운데서 해방 시키시겠다 이 말이다. 온 세상 살리는 세계복음화, 모든 족속 살리는 그 뜻을 바로 이루시겠다 이 말이다. 10절 마지막에 말씀 하신다, “여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라” 하나님께서 반드시 이것을 이루신다 이 말이다. 이 언약 속에 지금 살아가고 있는것이다. 우리는 지금 하나님의 언약 가운데 있다. 이 가운데서 감사할 일 세가지를 찾아봐야겠다.
2) 깨어있는 자 Those who stay awake
사 Isaiah 62:6
살전 1 Thessalonians 5:4, 6
먼저 우리에게 언약주신 하나님께 감사해야한다. 파수꾼으로 부르심에 감사해야 한다. 사 62:6 말씀이다, “예루살렘이여 내가 너의 성벽위에 파수꾼을 세우고 그들로 하여금 주야로 계속 잠잠하지 않게 하였느니라”. 망대에 서있는 파수꾼들은 밤새 자지도 않고 쉬지도 않는다. 밤에 늦은 시간이 되면 시간이 되었다 소리 지르며 외친다. 제가 어렸을때 동네에 방범 대원들이 막대기 같은것을 들고 여기 저기 돌아다니는것을 본 기억이 있다. 밤새도록 다니면서 그 지역을 지켜주고는 했다. 파수꾼들이 밤새 잠에 들지 않고 잠잠하지 않게 하겠다 이 말이다. 하나님께서는 우리를 복음의 망대를 지킬 파수꾼으로 부르셨다는 말이다. 여러분들은 이미 복음의 파수꾼 임을 믿는다. 살전 5:4이다, “형제들아 너희는 어둠에 있지 아니하매 그 날이 도둑 같이 너희에게 임하지 못하리니" 우리는 흑암을 물리칠수있는 영적 군사이다. 능력의 하나님이 우리와 함께 계심을 믿는다. Omipotent 한 하나님이 계시니 능히 세상을 바꿀수 있다. 살전 5:6, “그러므로 우리는 다른 이들과 같이 자지 말고 깨어 정신을 차릴지니라”. 우리가 해야할 것은 항상 영적인 눈을 뜨는것이다. 말씀과 기도 속에 세상을 바라보아야겠다. 미래와 후대 살리는 파수꾼의 역할 감당해야 할 줄을 믿는다. 이 세가지 하나님께서 주신 사명을 감사함으로 받으시는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
결론 Conclusion
살전 1 Thessalonians 5:3
말씀 맺겠다. 살전 5:3 이다, “그들이 평안하다, 안전하다 할 그 때에 임신한 여자가 해산의 고통이 이름과 같이 멸망이 갑자기 그들에게 이르리니 켤코 피하지 못하리라" 세상 사람들은 쾌락에 빠져 얼마나 살기 좋은 세상이냐 돌아다니는데 결국 임신한 여자에게 갑자기 해산의 고통이 이름과 같이 재앙이 닥칠것 이라는 말이다. 온 지구가 고통 당하게 될것이다 이 말이다. 우리는 그 가운데 빠져있는, 그들을 살릴수 있는 파수꾼의 역할을 감당해야 할 줄로 믿는다. 예수님은 반드시 오신다. 여러분들이 볼수 있을지도 모른다. 깨어서 기도하는 여러분 되시기를 예수님의 이름으로 축원한다.
The Result of the Passion of the Lord's Servant (Isaiah 54:4-10)

“4 'Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. 5 For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth. 6 For the Lord has called you Like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, Like a youthful wife when you were refused,' Says your God. 7 'For a mere moment I have forsaken you, But with great mercies I will gather you. 8 With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,' Says the Lord, your Redeemer. 9 'For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. 10 For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,' Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”
Introduction
There was a news article that I read that I received from a pastor. There was a survey that was done in 1988 completed by two doctors in Duke University. The survey compared the difference between people who attended church weekly who gave worship and praise and those who didn’t. The results were astounding. The results showed that those who worshiped and went to church, they lived longer. One of the doctors said at the end of the study that gratitude and giving praise is the best anti-cancer and the best medicine for anyone. I have heard many times that by giving praise and singing songs to God, many people were healed. If you looked deeper into these types of people who gave thanksgiving, praise, and worship to God then their body generates a 24 hour immunity boost. But if you get angry for just 1 minute then it destroys and breaks down your immunity for 6 hours. You can see that giving praise and having thoughts of thanksgiving connect with your health and body. If you give worship and praise to God then God will be very pleased with you. God is always thinking about how He can bless you more and what He can do so He can always bless you. I pray that you receive a lot of grace from today’s sermon. Through today’s sermon, may doors open for you and may the works of healing take place for you. Last week, God gave us the message regarding the work of the cross and through this event, it saved many Gentiles. Today’s sermon, we can see that through the work of Jesus Christ the Israelites were blessed. We can see the message that God gave to the Israelites.
1. God Who is the King of kings
1) God who delivers
Verse 4 - The Israelites were in the midst of a state of shame because they were bound by captivity at that time. This means that when His children, mankind are bound by captivity or in a state of shame, God is telling them not to be in shame because they are a child of God. To give an example, if a prince gets pickpocketed and gets beaten by children in the streets, this may seem shameful but this prince should not feel ashamed. The fact that the Israelites were in captivity, God is telling them to feel ashamed because they are children of God. When you are bound by captivity as people of God, who were considered chosen people of God, they were getting dragged around as slaves. It was a shameful act for these children of God who were being dragged around by Satan and people of this world.
2) The Lord God of hosts
Verse 5 - God tells the Israelites that He will liberate them. The fact that God created them means that God called them forward and chose them. God is not just a fearsome God but God calls Himself a husband to the Israelites. This means that God truly loves His children.
Genesis 2:23, 7 “And Adam said: 'This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.' 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” - God loved Eve so much that God made Eve out from the rib of Adam. When we get married, we may say that we are finding our missing bones.
Matthew 19:6 “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” - This was what Jesus said. When you are a married couple, then you should not be apart but be in an inseparable relationship. A marriage is an inseparable bond. God calls Himself a husband for the Israelites. When we were created, we were created to be in an inseparable bond with God.
Genesis 2:7 - That breath of life was the Spirit of God.
Job 27:3 “As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils.” - When God made us, He gave us His Spirit into our nostrils. The Spirit of God was breathed into our nostrils when we were created. This is the difference between animals and us, humans. This is how precious we are to God. This shows how much God loves us. This created this inseparable bond and love between God and man.
1 Samuel 17:45 “Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.' ” - The fact that God is Almighty God means that He has no opponents who can go against Him. When Goliath came before David, Goliath came with his spear and shield but David came with the name of God. At that point, David was not defeatable. David was confessing that God is the Almighty and no one can defeat God. God is the Almighty and redeemer. This Almighty God was the one who destroyed the power of Satan. This God is the one who holds the power to rule over heavens and earth. He is omnipotent and the Almighty God who holds the power to all things. Even if all animals, creatures, and Satan come against God, no one could win against Him. This Almighty and omnipotent God is our husband and our redeemer. Do you believe that this Spirit God is within you? If you hold onto this covenant, then there is nothing for you to fear.
2. God the Priest
1) God of great mercy
Verses 6-7 - This shows the love of a husband to a wife. This also shows the love of God has for us, mankind. What kind of life did the Israelites live? They said that they didn’t need God so they fell into captivity and got bound by slavery. They rejected God and turned to idolatry instead. They forsook God. God abandoned them once Israelites rejected them but God still loved His children, the Israelites. God still wants to save them.
Verse 7 - This shows the astounding love of God for His children and people. God abandoned them but God said them abandoned for only a mere moment.
Genesis 3:15, 21 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. 21 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” - Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s word and became separated from God. When mankind gets separated from God, sin, curses, and death come upon them. But as a result, God gave them the covenant of Genesis 3:15. God never abandoned His children. We can see that God had great compassion and sympathy for His children who were estranged from Him.
Genesis 3:21 - The fig leaves dried up so God sacrificed a lamb and used lambskin to cover Adam and Eve. This shows the compassionate love of God here.
2) God the Redeemer
Verse 8 - God was so angry and told them numerous times to come to God but the Israelites rejected them endlessly. This shows the great love of God even when the Israelites were following after idols. God was so angry that He had to cover His face. God gave them so many blessings and opportunities but the Israelites continued to reject Him. But God still called the Israelites His wife, which shows the great love of God. God said that He will have endless kindness on the Israelites. When you interpret this, this shows the great, endless amount of compassion and mercy for us. It is endless. It is an endless amount of mercy and grace that God has on us; that is infinite.
Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” - God sacrificed His Son for us. He didn’t place our iniquities on us but He sacrificed His Son to place our iniquities on Jesus. This was how our sins were forgiven. We need to earnestly give thanksgiving to God.
3. God the Prophet
1) God who gives us the covenant of peace
Verses 9-10 - When was God most angry? It was during Noah’s time when God flooded the entire world. Mankind was sinning against God so badly that God flooded the entire world but God still had compassion on mankind so He spared Noah and Noah’s family, and made a covenant with him.
Genesis 8:21 “And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, 'I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.' ” - God promised that He will never flood the world again. If God judged the entire world then no one can be righteous before God without Him. All of the Israelites were full of corruption and sin even like the days of Noah so God gave them a message.
Verse 9 - God said that He swore that He will never rebuke us against us. Why does God not rebuke us? This shows the great covenant that God has given to us.
God gave us His covenant in Genesis 12:1-3. God told Abraham that he is a source of blessings. In order to fulfill His covenant, He didn’t end mankind but spared Noah and Noah’s family.
Verse 10 - God said His heart of compassion and love will never change for us. God’s covenant will never be moved or shaken. God’s covenant will never be shaken.
Through Jesus Christ, God promised to make an eternal covenant of peace with Jesus Christ. The salvation of mankind was the covenant that God will fulfill. This covenant will never be shaken. Through the cross, God will fulfill His covenant with mankind. The promise of world evangelism, God promised that He will fulfill this covenant. God will absolutely fulfill HIs covenant. We are in the midst of God’s fulfilling covenant. We are inside of God’s covenant. Within this, we need to have three thanksgiving. First we need to give thanksgiving to God for our salvation. The covenant of being a watchman.
2) Those who stay awake
Isaiah 62:6 “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent.” - A watchman keeps watch all night long on the bartizan and they will yell when enemies come. I remember seeing watchmen and guards in the past and they wouldn’t sleep, and would keep watch all night long. God has called us as bartizans and watchmen to stand on the watchtower to guard the gospel. We are watchmen of the gospel.
1 Thessalonians 5:4, 6 “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” - We are spiritual soldiers and watchmen who can break down darkness. God has raised us up as a watchman with power. If the omnipotent and Almighty God is with us, we can change the world.
1 Thessalonians 5:6 - We need to stay awake and be vigilant. We need to always open our spiritual eyes and keep watching the world. We need to be the watchman who can save the next generation. We need to take these three missions and give thanksgiving to God.
Conclusion
1 Thessalonians 5:3 “For when they say, 'Peace and safety!' then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” - People of this world think this world is so grand and great but just like when a labor woman suddenly starts labor, Jesus Christ will suddenly appear. This means that the world will suffer great pain. We need to be the watchman who can save this world and save the suffering world. Jesus Christ will come. I am not sure if you will see Jesus Christ during your lifetime but always stay alert and stay within prayer.
