우리의 하나님께 나아가자(히10:21-25)
서론
5주전에 임직식이 있고나서 부교역자실에 물이 새서 형광등이 떨어졌다. 지붕이 잘못된 줄 알고 걱정을 많이 했었다. 그런데 비가 안오는데도 지붕에 물이 샜다. 그런데 지난주에 예배를 마치고 나니까 다시 물이 쏟아졌다. 장로님이 올라가서 보시더니 에어컨 파이프가 고장난게 확인이 되었다. 일단 원인이 발견되었으니 한시름 안심했다. 마침 우리 교회 수리하고 계시는 권찬석 장로님께 말씀을 드렸다. 그러니까 걱정하지 마시라고, 제가 다 고쳐놓겠다고 말씀하셨다. 저는 집에서 있는데 장로님께 연락이 와서 다 고쳤으니까 와서 보시라고 했다. 수리가 다 끝나고 파이프 잘라논 것을 보니까 누가 밟아서 박살이 났다. 그런데 그것이 오래된 것으로 느껴졌다. 참 감사했다. 권장로님이 오셔서 자기 집처럼 하나하나 손봐주시고 깨끗하게 고쳐주신데 정말로 감사했다. 그 분을 위해서 감사 기도를 했다. 그런데 저는 생각해보았다. 그 물이 그 때 쏟아지지 않았다면 어떤 일이 생겼을까. 물이 다행히 형광등으로 흘러서 떨어졌기 망정이지 그냥 물이 찼다고 하면 화재가 났을 것이라는 생각이 들었다. 천장에 물이 가득찼는데 전기를 켜게되면 스파크가 나서 화재가 났을 수도 있다. 물이 쏟아지길 잘 했다는 생각이 들었다. 또 장로님이 마지막 공사를 하는데 마침 오셔서 그것이 쉽게 해결될 수 있었다. 물이 쏟아지고 발견되고 고치고 천장도 깨긋하게 회복되는 과정을 보니까 하나님께서 하셨구나 하는 마음이 들었다. 아주 조그만 일 같지만 순서 순서마다 어김없이 일을 이루어 나가시는 것을 보니까 하나님께서 완벽하게 하셨다는 생각이 들었다. 마음에 하나님께서 한가지 한가지 보살피고 계시다는 확신이 왔다. 하나님이 참 세밀하시다 하면서 감사와 찬양이 나왔다. 사건이 처음 났을 때는 놀라서 저녁에 잠이 안왔다. 그런데 물이 샌 덕분에 발견되고 모든 것을 깨끗하게 할 수 있었다. 다시 한 번 우리가 복음만 전하면 하나님께서 모든 것을 완벽하게 지켜주시고 인도해주신다는 확신이 왔다. 그것을 생각하니까 어제 하루 종일 기분이 좋았다. 하나님께서는 우리 교회 뿐 아니라 여러분의 모든 것들을 하나 하나 신경쓰고 지켜주시고 계신다.
1. 큰 제사장이 계시매
1) 큰 대제사장
히 10:21 또 하나님의 집 다스리는 큰 제사장이 계시매
여기서 하나님의 집이라고 나온다. 하나님의 집은 바로 우리가 모인 이 교회를 나타낸다. 이 교회를 하나님 보좌우편에 계신 주님께서 직접 다스리고 계신다. 집을 다스린다고 말씀하고 계신다. 교회의 모든 것, 성도들 한 명 한 명 그 가정과 사업장을 다스리고 계시다. 그렇게 때문에 이것을 믿게되면 걱정하거나 근심할 이유가 전혀 없다. 오늘 말씀에 다스리는 주님께서 이제는 구원받은 우리가 하나님께 나아갈 수 있는 방법을 세 가지를 말씀하고 계신다. 중보자되시니 주님께서 성령으로 함께 믿음 소망 사랑으로 나아가면 큰 응답 가운데 승리할 수 있다는 것을 보여주고 계신다.
2) 믿음으로 나아감
우리는 대속의 피를 힘입어 하나님 앞에 마음대로 나갈 수 있다. 그런데 그냥 나가는 것이 아니다.
히 10:22 우리가 마음에 뿌림을 받아 악한 양심으로부터 벗어나고 몸은 맑은 물로 씻음을 받았으니 참 마음과 온전한 믿음으로 하나님께 나아가자
우리가 하나님 앞에 나갈 수 있는 담력이 생겼는데 그냥 가는 것이 아니라 참 마음과 온전한 믿음으로 나가자고 하고 있다. 참 마음이 무엇인가. 마음에 뿌림을 받아 악한 양심으로부터 벗어나는 마음이다. 예수님의 대속의 피의 뿌림을 받아 악한 양심에서 벗어난 새 마음을 가지고 가자는 것이다. 악한 양심은 타락으로 부패된 인간의 양심이다. 불신자들이 갖고 있는 마음이 타락한 악한 양심이라는 것이다. 불신자들의 판단 기준은 양심이다. 양심대로 판단해라 하면서 양심이 그들의 선악을 판단하는 기준이 되어있다. 그런데 오늘 말씀에 그 양심이 부패되어있다고 나온다. 불신자들이 아무리 양심대로 살아간다고 하더라도 하나님을 만날 수 없다는 것이다. 그들이 하나님을 만날 수 있는 것을 피뿌림을 받아야지만 만날 수 있다는 것이다. 굉장히 중요한 메세지이다. 그리고 온전한 믿음으로 나아가자고 말하고 있다. 온전한 믿음이 무엇인가. 몸은 맑은 물로 씻음을 받았으니 하고 나온다. 물은 칼빈의 해석에 의하면 성령 세례라고 나온다. 성령을 받음을 말한다. 베드로는 성령을 받기 전에는 예수님을 배반했던 사람이다. 성령 세례를 받고 나니까 견고한 믿음이 생겼다. 믿음을 나갈 때 가장 중요한 것은 깨끗한 마음과 견고한 믿음으로 하나님 앞에 나아가라는 것이다. 이럴 때 하나님께서 기뻐하시고 응답의 역사가 일어나게 될 것이다.
2. 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니
1) 소망으로 나아감
히 10:23 또 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니 우리가 믿는 도리의 소망을 움직이지 말며 굳게 잡고
예수의 피를 힘입어 나가는데 믿는 도리의 소망을 견고하게 잡고 나가라고 한다. 약속하신 이는 미쁘시기 때문에 이것을 붙잡고 가라는 것이다. 하나님 언약의 말씀은 반드시 성취되는 말씀이라는 것이다. 확신을 갖고 나가라는 것이다. 우리가 구원받은 것도 하나님의 말씀하신 언약이 성취된 것이다. 더 중요한 것은 앞으로 있을 심판과 천국의 소망 역시고 하나님의 언약을 잡고 가라는 것이다. 많은 사람들은 미래에 있을 심판을 두려워한다. 불신자들은 두려움에 떨고 있다. 그러나 우리에게는 소망이라는 말이다. 그 심판날에 우리가 맺은 열매를 갖고 상급이 있을 것이다. 영원히 주님과 함께하는 축복된 삶을 살게된다. 이 소망이 우리에게 있다. 이 소망을 항상 바라보면서 굳게 나아가야한다.
2) 사랑으로 나아감
히 10:24-25 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하며 25 모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자
이제는 사랑으로 나갈 것을 말씀하고 계신다. 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하라고 한다. 우리가 새 언약을 잡을 때 반드시 잡아야할 것이 사랑과 선행이다. 이 사랑과 선행의 모델이 예수님이시다. 예수님은 우리를 사랑하실 때 끝까지 사랑하셨다. 친히 죽음으로 대속까지하신 사랑을 실천하신 분이다. 사랑을 실천하는 것이 선행이다. 그 선행을 최고로 성취시킨 것이 주님이다. 히브리서의 배경을 잠시 봐야겠다. 당시에 로마 교회는 유대인들과 이방인인 로마인들과 심각한 갈등이 있었다. 유대인들은 아브라함의 자손이라는 굉장히 큰 자존심을 갖고있었다. 하나님의 선택받은 백성이기 때문에 누구보다 뛰어난 민족이라는 것이다. 그런데 로마인들은 달랐다. 로마는 전 세계를 정복한 민족이다. 하나님이 너희를 축복했지만 너희는 우리한테 점령당한 존재 아니냐. 우리는 더 우월한 민족이다 하면서 자부심을 갖고있었다. 교회 갈등이 자존심 때문이 심각하게 있었다. 신앙생활하는데서 자존심이 교회가 하나되는 것을 망친다. 우리가 복음 속에 들어가지 않으면 갈등 속에서 속을 수 밖에 없다. 우리 자신을 점검해볼 필요가 있다. 저는 가끔 자존심이 상하는 상황을 만날 때가 있다. 화가 나게되면 불러서 이야기를 한 번 해 하는 마음이 생길 때가 있다. 옛날에는 그랬었다. 요새는 그러지 않는다. 일단은 먼저 기도부터 들어간다. 하나님 제가 어떻게 했으면 좋겠습니까. 그것을 놓고 깊이 기도한다. 그러면 하나님께서 가만히 있어라 하는 응답이 많이 온다. 내가 처리하마 하신다. 알겠습니다 주님께서 해결해주시기 바랍니다 한다. 어떤 일이든지 주님께 기도하면 주님께서 해결해주신다. 이들 가운데서 서로 하나가 되지 못하고 자존심 때문에 안 만나고 예배로 드리지 못했다. 그래서 25절에 이야기한다. “모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고.” 왜 그런가. 우리 모두가 십자가에서 완전히 죽음을 통과한 사람들이다. 뿐만 아니라 육신과 과거가 완전히 죽은 사람이다. 세상적인 자존심, 우월감이 완전히 십자가에 못박혀 죽었다. 성령으로 새롭게 태어난 피조물이다. 새로 태어난 자녀들이다. 우리가 이 언약을 분명히 잡아야한다. 자녀는 부모를 찾게되어있다. 우리 하나님의 자녀는 하나님께 드리는 예배를 찾게되어있다. 예배와 말씀을 통해서 기뻐하면 하나가 되는 역사가 나타난다. 이렇게 되면 큰일 나니까 사단이 이것을 못하게 만든다. 자꾸만 창 3장으로 네가 최곤데 왜 그러냐 하고 충동질 한다. 창 6장 네가 먼저 먹고 살아야지 한다. 창 11장 네가 잘되야지 무슨 소리야 한다. 여기서 다 무너지고있다. 그렇기 때문에 이야기한다. 오직 권하라고 한다. 복음을 전하라는 말이다. 같이 모여서 복음을 받고 예배에 참석하고 같이 죽은 자를 살리는 역할을 해야한다. 예배를 통해서 하나님께서 주신 보좌의 축복을 마음껏 누리라는 것이다. 그 날이 가까움을 볼 수록 더 그리하자. 재림이 가까울 수록 우리는 더 그 신앙을 찾아야한다. 여기서 항상 우리는 재림 신앙을 갖고있어야 한다는 것을 말하고 있는 것이다. 항상 우리는 주님만날 준비를 해야한다. 내가 언제 주님을 만날지 몰라도 만날 때 담대히 하나님 앞에 나아갈 수 있는 준비를 해야한다. 이 신앙을 갖고있으면 절대로 실패하지 않는다. 무엇이든지 승리하게 될 것이다.
3. 우리의 그리스도시니
1) 기름부음을 받으신 분
우리는 중보자 되신 예수님께서 그리스도이시니까 하나님 앞에 나아갈 수 있다. 예수님은 기름부음 받으신 그리스도이시기 때문이다.
눅 4:18 주의 성령이 내게 임하셨으니 이는 가난한 자에게 복음을 전하게 하시려고 내게 기름을 부으시고 나를 보내사 포로 된 자에게 자유를, 눈 먼 자에게 다시 보게 함을 전파하며 눌린 자를 자유롭게 하고
이 말씀이 예수님께서 공생애를 시작하시면서 제일 처음 설교하신 말씀이다. 이 말씀은 사 61:1-2말씀을 인용한 말씀이다. 희년에 대한 이야기가 성취된 것이다 하면서 말씀하신 것이다. 희년은 안식년이 7년만에 오는데 그 안식년을 7번 맞은 해 49년 다음 해 50번째 되는 해가 희년이다. 이 희년에는 이스라엘 백성들이 큰 축복의 장은 연다. 그 때 돈이 없어서 팔려가서 다른 사람의 종노릇 하는 사람도 있었다. 어떤 사람은 돈이 없어서 집을 팔고 밭을 팔고 남의 집에서 가난하게 사는 사람도 있었다. 그런데 이런 사람들이 다 해방된다. 종살이 하던 사람들이 자유인이 된다. 집이니 밭이니 팔아서 다 썼던 사람들도 희년이 되면 다시 자기 집을 찾게된다. 바로 그것이 희년이다. 뿐만 아니라 어떤 사람이 잘못해서 돌을 던졌는데 지나가던 사람이 돌을 맞아 죽었다. 그럼 이 사람은 살인자가 되서 사형을 당해야한다. 자기는 의도적으로 그런 것이 아닌데 우연히 실수로 그렇게 되었다. 이 사람은 막 도망가서 도피성으로 들어간다. 도피성에 들어가서 숨어서 살게된다. 희년이 되면 그 사람이 거기서 나올 수 있다. 죄에서 완전히 해방된다. 모든 것을 회복하는 일이 희년에 일어난다.
눅 4:21 이에 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시되 이 글이 오늘 너희 귀에 응하였느니라 하시니
희년에 대한 모든 메세지가 나에 대한 메세지였다 하시는 것이다. 그래서 가난한 자에게 복음을 전하게 하시려고 내게 기름을 부었다고 말씀하신다. 이 일을 행하시기 위해서 기름부음을 받으신 것이다. 포로된 자에게 자유를 주신다. 예수님이 사 61:1 말씀을 영적 의미로 말씀하셨다. 포로된 자에게 자유라는 것은 사단에게서 해방될 것이다 라는 것을 말씀하신다. 눈 먼 자에게 다시 보게하는 축복이 있게 될 것이다. 복음을 통해서 영적 눈이 띄어지는 선지자로 왔다는 것을 말씀하시는 것이다. 눌린 자에게 자유를 준다고 했다. 죄에 눌린 자에게 자유를 주는 축복을 주겠다는 것이다. 이 말씀을 하시면서 이 말이 오늘 너희 귀에 다 응했느니라 하셨다. 이제는 이 말씀을 믿는 자들은 그대로 성취가 될 것이라는 말이다. 예수님께서는 설교에서 말씀하시기를 너희들이 갖고 있는 근본문제가 완전히 해결되었다는 것을 선포하시면서 공생애에 들어가셨다.
2) 나, 나는 누구인가
우리가 일곱가지 여정을 받고 있습니다면 그 중에서 첫번째가 나는 누구인가 하는 것이다. 우리 인생의 여정 가운데 가장 중요한 것이 나를 발견하는 것이다. 우리가 이것을 잡게되면 어떤 어려운 문제가 온다고 하더라도 답을 찾을 수 있다. 분명한 것은 하나님은 지금도 살아계셔서 말씀을 성취하는 역사를 이루고 계시다. 우리가 말씀을 잡으면 반드시 성취가 된다. 분명한 것은 예수님께서 살아계셔서 함께하시고 중보사역을 이루어 나가고 계신다. 죄와 지옥배경과 사단의 권세에서 해방시키는 역사를 지금도 이루고 계신다. 뿐만 아니라 성령께서는 지금도 능력으로 역사하고 계신다. 늘 함께하시면서 역사하고 계신다. 우리가 이것을 잡게되면 틀림없이 승리할 수 있다. 우리가 말씀을 붙잡고 승리하는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 성삼위 하나님께서 나와 함께하심을 붙잡으시기 바란다. 여기서 답을 내시기 바란다. 하나님께서는 분명히 답을 갖고 계시고 답을 우리에게 주시기를 원하신다. 하나님은 분명히 문제가 아니라고 하는데 우리는 문제가 있다고 말하고 있다. 내가 문제가 있다면서 내가 고민하고 앉아있는 것이다. 우리의 근심 걱정은 하나님의 답을 생각하지 않고 내 답을 생각하기 때문에 있는 것이다. 성경에서는 다 예수님께서 끝내셨다고 말씀하셨다. 주님께서 다 끝내신 것을 붙잡고 나는 고민하고 불평 원망하고 있다. 언약을 잡으면 되는데. 약속하신 것을 굳게 붙잡으면 되는데. 믿지 않고 있기 때문에 문제가 생긴다. 왜 그런가. 내가 누군지를 모른다. 내가 하나님의 자녀인데도 하나님의 자녀가 아닌 것 처럼 살고있다. 나를 발견하시기 바란다. 나는 너무나 보배롭고 귀중한 하나님의 자녀인 것을 붙잡으시기 바란다. 여러분 때문에 주님께서 친히 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시고 살리셨다. 이 축복 누리시기 바란다.
결론
시 139:2 주께서 내가 앉고 일어섬을 아시고 멀리서도 나의 생각을 밝히 아시오며
우리 주님께서는 나의 모든 것을 보고 계시고 알고 계시다. 생각까지도 알고 계신다. 어려운 문제, 힘든 문제를 다 알고 계신다. 답도 알고 계신다. 우리를 깨닫게 하시면서 인도하신다. 모든 것을 주님께 맡기고 믿고 믿음, 소망, 사랑의 말씀을 붙들고 승리하시는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 이번 주간에 큰 응답의 역사가 나타게 될 줄로 믿는다.
Let Us Draw Near to God (Hebrews 10:21-25)

“21 And having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Introduction
After we had our installation of our church officers, one of our ceilings at our church leaked and collapsed. I though it was because our ceiling and roof were constructed incorrectly. The problem was that it wasn’t raining so we didn’t know that our ceiling and roof construction had a problem but last week after it rained, the ceiling was leaking with water. Our elder went up to inspect it and it seem like the pipe of our air conditioning system was broken. Since the root of the problem was found, we were assured. Also the elder who helped us with our church construction in the first place, we notified him regarding the root of the problem of our ceiling and the elder told us not to worry and said that he will make sure to get it fixed for us. When I was at home, the elder called me and told me that the problem was fixed so he told me come and check it out. When I looked at the pipe, the pipeline was in a really bad condition and it was because the pipe system was old. I was so thankful because the elder was able to take care of the issue as if it was the church was his own home. I am very grateful towards him. I thought about this, if the water wasn’t leaking, I wondered what would’ve happened. Thankfully the water was leaking and we were able to see that there was a problem. But if the water didn’t leak, then our church could’ve flooded. If we turned on the wrong switches, then it could’ve also caused a fire too. I am glad that the water leaked so we were able to detect the problem earlier on. The elder was able to fix the problem completely. With the water was leaking, the pipe breaking, and getting it fixed; when I looked at the whole situation, I realized that this was all part of God’s doing. This may seem like a small event but each step of this problem and solution, I could see that God was working. I realized in my heart that God is guiding and taking responsibility over everything. I realized that once again that God was very meticulous. When the problem first arose, I couldn’t sleep in peace at night when I first heard about the water leakage but we were able to detect the problem early. Once again, I realized that if we proclaim the gospel then God will guide and protect us perfectly. When I thought about this once again, I was so happy yesterday. Not only within our plans but God knows everything and guides us in everything that we do.
1. Having a High Priest
1) The Great High Priest:
Verse 21 - The house of God is referring to the church. God is presiding and governing over our church, Himself. Each church member and over our church, God is governing and watching over us. If we hold onto this and believe in it, then there is no need for us to worry or fear. If you look at today’s Biblical passage, the Lord Jesus gave us the three methods on how we can go towards Him. When we go before God with faith, hope, and love and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then we can find God. Through these methods, we are able to go before God. We are not just heading towards God randomly and blindly.
2) In full assurance of faith:
Verse 22 - True heart is referring to the our bodies being washed with pure water from our evil conscience. We have been washed with Jesus’ blood and through this, we have been freed from our evil conscience. Evil conscience is referring to the corrupted and sinful conscience of mankind. All mankind are born with a sinful and corrupted conscience. What is the standards of the thoughts of an unbeliever? It is their conscience. Our conscience decides what is good and bad, and what they want to do and not to do. But it says that the conscience of mankind is evil. No matter how good of a person is, mankind still possesses an evil conscience. The only way to meet God is through the blood of Jesus Christ because the conscience of mankind are evil and sinful. This is a very important message.
Water was interpreted through the interpretation of Calvin. Peter betrayed Jesus but after he received the Holy Spirit, he was able to completely change. This shows that he had the full assurance of faith because he received the Holy Spirit. We need to come before God with full assurance of faith and true heart. When we do this, then God will rejoice and give us tremendous answers.
2. For He Who Promised is Faithful
1) Draw near with hope:
Verse 23 - What is our hope without wavering? We need to hold onto this hope because we have been promised. The promise of the covenant of God will absolutely be fulfilled. What God promises will absolutely be fulfilled and we need to go forth with this assurance and hope. Th fact that we have been saved, this was because God gave us the covenant. What is more important is our hope of heaven and this is also part of God’s covenant. Many people fear judgment in the future and many nonbelievers are fearful of this but what is rightful for us as children of God is that we have hope. We possess fruits of blessings and we will go before God, and we will be able to be with God eternally. This is the hope that we possess. We need to always hold onto this hope. Truly be victorious.
2) Draw near with love:
Verses 24 - We need to go forth with love and good works. What we need the most in our Christian walk fo faith are love and good works. Who was the model of love and good works? It was Jesus Christ. When Jesus loved us, He loved us till the end. Dying on the cross for us and sacrificing His life was His good work.
In the book of Hebrews, there was a severe conflict that arose between the Romans and Jews. The Jews possessed this great pride that they were the descendants of Abraham and the “chosen people of God” so they looked down everyone else. But the Romans were different. The romans were people who conquered all nations and the world, and were a very powerful nation. They said that as Romans who conquered Jews, they believed that they were more superior. A conflict within the church arose due to their pride and ego. We could see that because of people’s pride and ego, it is destroying the church. This is what is destroying churches nowadays, people’s pride and ego. There are times when your pride is hurt and when that happens, you get angry and you want to confront that person. I was like that long time ago but I am not like that anymore. Before anything else, I enter into prayer. I ask God what I must do and enter into deep prayer. Then, God always gives me the answer to wait. Then, I ask God what it means to wait and God assures me each time that Je will take care of it. God has been doing this a lot to me so I am able to entrust everything to God. If you go before God and entrust your problems to Him, then He will solve your problems. Due to people’s ego and pride, it causes problems and division within the church.
Verse 25 - Through the cross, we also have completely died. We have completely died on the cross, which means our pride and ego also has died. All of your pride and ego should’ve died on the cross as well. We are have been a new creation and we have been re-born. We need to hold onto this covenant. What does a child of God do? A child searches for their parents. As children of God, we need to search for worship. Through worship and the word of God, we can become one and be in happiness. If that happens, Satan knows that He will be in trouble so he constantly implants Genesis 3, 6, and 11 into people’s hearts. He constantly implants the thoughts and hearts that you should succeed, you should be the one who should be praised, glorified, and successful but this how Satan breaks people down. But, we need to proclaim the gospel. We need to proclaim and receive the word of God together. Through worship, we can receive the blessing of fellowship. As the End Times approaches, we need to see this more clearly. We need to always be ready and prepared. We need to always be ready and prepared to meet Jesus. You don’t know when you will meet God so you need to always be prepared and ready to meet Him. When we live this kind of walk of faith, then we cannot fail in our walk of faith. With this faith, we will absolutely be victorious.
3. He is Our Christ
1) The Anointed One:
Because Jesus is Christ, we are able to go before God. This is because Jesus Christ is the Anointed One.
Luke 4:18 ("The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed.") - When Jesus started His early ministry, this was the first message that He gave at the synagogues.
This was the same content of the message that He gave in Isaiah 61:1-2 (“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn.”) - Jesus was explaining the covenant of the Jubilee and you know that the during Year of the Jubilee, it took place every seven years. During the Year of the Jubilee, great blessings were given to the Israelites. During Jubilee, the Israelites were still enslaved due to their debts and other reasons. People became enslaved because they owed money or had debt to pay but during the Year of Jubilee, all of their debts were forgiven. Their debts and their slave term would end on the Year of Jubilee. If they had to sell their house or land because of their debts, they are able to have their homes and lands returned to them during the Year of Jubilee. Let us say if you accidentally threw a rock and killed someone, you become a murderer by a mere accident. And if this murderer runs away and go into hiding, during the year of jubilee, this person is able to come out of hiding and their crime is completely forgiven. You can see that everything is restored during the Year of Jubilee.
Luke 4:21 (“And He began to say to them, 'Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.' ”) - Jesus is saying that all of the messages in the Old Testament and regarding the Jubilee were all referring to Him. In order to preach the gospel to the poor, Jesus was anointed. Jesus who was anointed, He was able to provide liberty to the captives. Jesus was speaking all of this in a spiritual metaphor. Liberty to the captives means that He will free us from the bondage of Satan. The recovery of sight means that our spiritual eyes will be opened through the gospel. He will also give liberty to those who are oppressed by sin. Jesus is saying that the scripture has been fulfilled. This mean that those who believe in this, the word has been fulfilled for them. This means that our fundamental problem of sin have been completely solved. We need to hold onto this covenant. With this, we need to hold onto the word of God. We received the blessings of seven covenantal journeys and within those seven covenantal journeys, we need to ask ourselves, who are we?
2) Who am I?:
This is the most important question. If we hold onto the answer to this question, then no matter what problems comes to us, then we can conquer all problems. What is absolute is that God is living and working through His word. When we hold onto the word, then it will absolutely be fulfilled. Jesus is with us and fulfilling His ministry through us. He is still continuing to break down Satan and our sins even now. The Holy Spirit is still at work through His power. The Triune God continues to be with us and if we hold onto this, then we will absolutely be victorious. We need to be successful and hold onto the word of God. We need to hold onto the fact that the Triune God is with us. We need to find our answers within this. God has the answers and wants to give us the answers. God is saying that problems are not problems but we are saying that it is a problem. You think you have a problem so you are sitting around worrying and being anxious. Jesus finished everything but we are still sitting around in fear and worrying. We just need to hold onto the covenant. Because we don’t believe in this, that is why problems come to us. Why is that? We don’t know who we are. We are children of God but we live as if we are not children of God. We need to examine ourselves. We need to hold onto the fact that we are precious children of God. The proof of that is that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. Enjoy this covenant.
Conclusion
Hold onto Psalms 139:2 (“You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.”) - Jesus knows everything and is watching over us. Jesus knows all of our thinking and knows every challenge that we are experiencing. He is also knows the answers. Jesus is showing us the answers to our problems so all we have to do is entrust everything to God and go forth before Him with faith, hope, and love. May we receive tremendous answers this week. Let us place our hands over our weaknesses once again and enter into prayer.
