21 야곱아 이스라엘아 이 일을 기억하라 너는 내 종이니라 내가 너를 지었으니 너는 내 종이니라 이스라엘아 너는 나에게 잊혀지지 아니하리라 22 내가 네 허물을 빽빽한 구름 같이, 네 죄를 안개 같이 없이하였으니 너는 내게로 돌아오라 내가 너를 구속하였음이니라 23 여호와께서 이 일을 행하셨으니 하늘아 노래할지어다 땅의 깊은 곳들아 높이 부를지어다 산들아 숲과 그 가운데의 모든 나무들아 소리내어 노래할지어다 여호와께서 야곱을 구속하셨으니 이스라엘 중에 자기의 영광을 나타내실 것임이로다 24 네 구속자요 모태에서 너를 지은 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 나는 만물을 지은 여호와라 홀로 하늘을 폈으며 나와 함께 한 자 없이 땅을 펼쳤고 25 헛된 말을 하는 자들의 징표를 폐하며 점 치는 자들을 미치게 하며 지혜로운 자들을 물리쳐 그들의 지식을 어리석게 하며 26 그의 종의 말을 세워 주며 그의 사자들의 계획을 성취하게 하며 예루살렘에 대하여는 이르기를 거기에 사람이 살리라 하며 유다 성읍들에 대하여는 중건될 것이라 내가 그 황폐한 곳들을 복구시키리라 하며 27 깊음에 대하여는 이르기를 마르라 내가 네 강물들을 마르게 하리라 하며 28 고레스에 대하여는 이르기를 내 목자라 그가 나의 모든 기쁨을 성취하리라 하며 예루살렘에 대하여는 이르기를 중건되리라 하며 성전에 대하여는 네 기초가 놓여지리라 하는 자니라. 서론
1부 예배에서 간증을 들었다. 오래된 이야기였다. 부산항만청에 다니는 분이 있었다고 한다. 그 부부는 부산 큰 교회의 중직자로 신앙생활을 했다고 한다. 그래서 하나님의 축복을 많이 받고 신앙생활을 잘 했던 사람들이라고 한다. 열심히 하나님을 섬기고 하니 하나님께서 축복 하셔서 항만청장이 되었다고 한다. 물질적 축복도 풍성하게 받게 되었다. 물질을 풍성하게 받으면 감사하면서 신앙생활에 더 깊이 들어가야 할텐데 아내가 신앙에 변화가 있어 하나님을 떠나게 되었다. 그래서 그 아내가 영적생활을 놓쳤다고 한다. 자연스레 흑암이 역사 할수밖에 없었고 아내가 노름에 손을 대게 되었다. 처음엔 쉽지만 일단 한번 빠지게 되면 거기서 빠져나오기 쉽지 않다. 그러던 어느날 문제가 생겼다. 남편인 항만청장이 출근하는 길에 뒤에서 차가 오더니 받아버렸다. 뒤에서 안전벨트를 안매고 있다가 박는 순간 몸이 붕 뜨고 차안에서 밖으로 튕겨나갔다고 한다. 그래서 그 항만청장의 목이 부러지고 바로 즉사했다고 한다. 그러면서 하시는 말씀이 하나님 주시는 축복을 모르면 모든 축복을 빼앗기는 모습을 보았다 라고 했다. 하나님께서 주신 은혜에 감사하면서 더 깊은 은혜속으로 들어가야 하는데 그러지 못하고 오히려 세상에 빠져들어가니 하나님께서 축복을 거두어 가신것 같다. 이것은 개인적인 일이지만 사실 우리가 보고있는 이스라엘도 똑같은 모습인것을 볼수가있다. 하나님께서는 정말로 우상숭배했던 아브라함, 조상을 끌어내 택한백성, 하나님의 선민으로 삼으시는 축복을 이스라엘 백성들에게 마음껏 허락 해주셨다. 그 축복을 누리지 못하고 오히려 죄에 빠져 육신에 빠지고 마침내 포로로 붙잡혀 가는것이다. 오늘 말씀은 하나님께서 그들을 사랑해 다시한번 포로에서 다시한번 끌어내는 내용이 나타난다. 다시 또 축복의 기회를 주시며 축복 주시기를 원하는것을 볼수있다. 그런데 잘 아시는바와 같이 풍성해지니 다시 하나님을 대적해 예수님을 죽이게 되고 마침내 완전히 2,000년 동안 멸망 당하는 비극을 볼수있다. 이 가운데서 바라볼것은 하나님의 마음은 변함없이 우리를 극진히 사랑하신다 라는 사실이다. 인간이 자꾸만 하나님을 배반하고 떠나서 그렇지 하나님은 끊임없이 우리를 사랑하신다 하는것을 오늘 말씀 통해서도 알수가있다. 그래서 이 말씀을 그냥 이스라엘 백성에게 하신 말이 아닌 나에게 하시는 말씀이다 생각하고 받으시기를 바란다.
1. 죄의 도말과 찬양 The eradication of sin, followed by praise
1) 기억하라 Remember
사 Isaiah 44:21
사 Isaiah 43:4
21절 말씀 보면, “야곱아 이스라엘아 이 일을 기억하라 너는 내 종이니라 내가 너를 지었으니 너는 내 종이니라 이스라엘아 너는 나에게 잊혀지지 아니하리라” 라고 말씀하신다. 하나님이 그냥 이스라엘 백성을 얼마나 사랑하시는지 제발 나를 잊지 말고 돌아오라 간절히 호소 하시는 내용임을 알수가있다. 여기서 포인트가 기억 하라는 말이다. 무엇을 기억하나. 두가지를 기억하라는것이다. 첫째, 네가 누구인지를 기억하고 둘째, 하나님인 내가 누구인지를 기억하라는 것이다. 너는 누구냐? 내 종이라는 말이다. 그리고 그런 너를 지은 이가 바로 나 라는 것이다. 하나님께서 잊지 못하시는 이유는 바로 우리가 그의 종이기 때문이다. 하나님께서는 당신의 종을 절대 잊지 못하신다. 내 종이라는 것은 당신의 언약을 성취시키시기 위해 택하신 백성이기 때문에 절대 잊지 못하신다. 내가 너를 지었다고 말씀하신다, 그 말은 내가 너를 선택하였다 이 말이다. 우리 부모님들이 자식을 낳은것처럼 너는 내 자식이다 하는 의미를 가지고 있다. 너는 내 자식이기 때문에 결코 너를 잊을수가 없어. 사 43:4, “네가 내 눈에 보배롭고 존귀하며 내가 너를 사랑하였은즉 내가 네 대신 사람들을 내어 주며 백성들이 네 생명을 대신하리니.” 하나님께서는 우리를 너무나 보배롭고 존귀한 존재로 생각하고계신다. 나는 하나님 앞에 존귀하고 보배로운 존재인 사실을 붙잡으시기를 바란다. 하나님께서는 절대로 나를 잊혀지는 존재가 아닌 존귀한 존재로 부르셨다. 우리가 하나님 자녀 이기 때문이다.
2) 구속하였음이라 For I have redeemed you
사 Isaiah 44:22
22절, “내가 네 허물을 빽빽한 구름 같이, 네 죄를 안개 같이 없이하였으니 너는 내게로 돌아오라 내가 너를 구속하였음이니라”. 지금 하나님께서 이 죄에 대해 이야기 하고 있다. 지난시간에 말했지만 뗄감으로 우상을 만들어 경배하며 나를 구원해달라 하는 이스라엘의 모습이 있었다. 하나님 앞에는 전혀 소망이 없던 그런 존재들이다. 그런데 그런 죄인들 향하여 하나님께서 “너는 내게로 돌아오라 내가 너를 구속하였음이니라” 라고 말씀하신다. 놀라운 말씀이다, 돌아오라, 내가 너를 구속했다 하시는것이다. 여기서 우리가 붙잡고 넘어갈것은 구속과 회개중 어떤것이 먼저냐 하는것을 생각해봐야한다. 여러분, 구속이 먼저겠나 회개가 먼저겠나. 오늘 말씀 보게 되면 구속이 먼저다 하는것이다. 여러분, 무엇보다도 우리를 향한 하나님의 은혜가 먼저 임하는것을 알수가 있다. “내게로 돌아오라” 회개 하라는 말씀이다. 이것은 현재형으로 되어있다. 너를 구속 하였음이라, 이것은 완료형으로 나와있다. 일반적인 삶에서는 먼저 회개를 해야 용서가 된다. 그러나 하나님의 구원은 다른것을 알수가있다. 하나님 앞에서는 회개가 먼저가 아닌것을 알수가있다. <구원의 서정> 을 보게 되면 하나님께서 먼저 우리를 불러 중생(重生) 을 시키시고 회개하고 신앙심을 자라게 하시는것을 볼수가 있다. 이것을 조금 자세히 말씀드리면, 먼저 부르신다는것은 하나님께서 전도자를 통해 말씀을 전하신다, 그것이 그 사람의 영혼을 부르시는 내용이다. 그러면 그 말씀을 듣는 순간에 ‘아, 하나님을 내가 받아야겠구나, 아 그렇구나!’ 하는 순간에 하나님께서 중생을 시켜 변하게 만드시는것이다. 중생 한 자가 회개가 나오기 시작하는것이다. 그러면 회개 한 자는 신앙이 자라기 시작하는것이다. 그러면 “구속” 이라는것은 무엇인가. 구속 이라는것은 값을 치루고 샀다는 의미가 있다. 죄의 노예였던 우리를 값을 치루시고 사셔서 우리에게 자유를 주셨다는것을 의미하고 있다. 지금 이스라엘 백성들에게 너를 구속했다 라고 나와있다. 너희 죄값을 이미 다 지불했다 이 말이다. 어느정도인가? 빽빽한 구름, 짖은 안개가 순식간에 사라지듯이 너희 죄를 완전히 없애버렸다 하는것이다. 항상 이것을 기억하라 이 말이다. 이 기억 하라는것은 여호와는 나의 생명의 주인이시다 라는것과 나는 하나님의 택한 종이다 라는것을 기억 하라는것이다. 그러므로 내가 너의 구원자 됨을 항상 기억하라 이 말이다. 이것을 아는 자는 하나님을 찬양 할수밖에 없다.
2. 찬양의 이유 The reason for praise
1) 구속하심 Redemption
사 Isaiah 44:23-24
23절에 나와있다, “여호와께서 이 일을 행하셨으니 하늘아 노래할지어다 땅의 깊은 곳들아 높이 부를지어다 산들아 숲과 그 가운데의 모든 나무들아 소리내어 노래할지어다 여호와께서 야곱을 구속하셨으니 이스라엘 중에 자기의 영광을 나타내실 것임이로다”. 이 일을 행하시니 모든 하늘과 땅, 산의 모든 만물 우주를 창조하신 하나님께 영광을 돌리라 이 말이다. 왜 영광을 돌리나. 여호와께서 야곱을 구속하셨으니 이스라엘중에 자기 영광을 나타내실것이라. 하나님께서 너를 구속하신것, 그 사실을 영광 돌리라 이 말이다. 하나님께서 우리를 구원하신 일은 온 우주가 기뻐하며 찬양드릴 놀라운 일이다 하는것이다. 우리는 우리가 구원받은것의 의미를 너무나 잘 모른다. 이것은 우주가 뒤집어질정도의 놀라운 일인것을 너무나 모르고있다. 하나님의 찬양 부르고, 온 우주가 찬양드리고 영광 돌리는 그런 기쁨 가운데 있는것을 전혀 모르고 아 구원 받았어 너무나 감흥없이 제대로 깨닫지도 못하는것이다. 다시한번 말씀드린다, 24절, “네 구속자요 모태에서 너를 지은 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 나는 만물을 지은 여호와라 홀로 하늘을 폈으며 나와 함께 한 자 없이 땅을 펼쳤고”. 하나님께서 우리를 향해 말씀하신다, 나는 네 구속자야, 너를 지은이야. 여러분 이러한 감격이 있으신가. 나는 네 구속자야! 들었을때 아 그렇습니까? 마음에 감격이 드시나? “나는 만물을 지은 여호와라 홀로 하늘을 폈으며 나와 함께 한 자 없이 땅을 펼쳤고”. 내가 계획한 구속의 역사를 완전히 완성 시켰다, 우리가 구원받게 되었다 라는것을 말한다. 그리고 이것을 그리스도통해 반드시 이루실것임을 기뻐하시는것이다. 하나님께서 항상 기뻐하시는것이 메시야를 통해 우리가 구원받게 될것이라는 사실이다.
2) 우상숭배자의 심판 The judgment upon idol worshipers
사 Isaiah 44:25-26
25절, “헛된 말을 하는 자들의 징표를 폐하며 점 치는 자들을 미치게 하며 지혜로운 자들을 물리쳐 그들의 지식을 어리석게 하며”. 하나님을 떠난 자, 우상숭배자는 어떻게 되나 이것이다. 다시 말씀드리면 거짓말하는 자들이나 점쟁이를 찾아다니는 사람들은 어떻게 되나 이 말이다. 사람들이 애초에 이런 사람을 왜 찾아다니나. 물어보니 맞추는것 같고 기적같은것도 일으키는것 같고 무당굿 하니 치유도 받는것 같은것이다. 대단한것처럼 해서 간증 비슷하게 말하고 돌아다니는 사람도 있다. 그런데 오늘 말씀 보면 그것은 속고 있는것이니 속지 말라 하신다. 일시적으로는 대단한것 같으나 결국에는 실패하고 말것이다 하신다. 오늘 말씀 보게 되면 심각한 영적문제와 정신문제가 일어날것이다 하신다. 오늘 말씀 보게 되면 “헛된 말을 하는 자들의 징표를 폐하며”, 그 증거로 ‘아 내가 속은것이구나!’ 깨닫게 되는것이다. “점 치는 자들을 미치게 하며” 무당 뿐만 아니라 점 치러 다니는 사람들도 영적인 병에 걸린다는 것이다. 제가 현장 다니며 확인한것만 봐도 점쟁이 한번 두번 찾아가는 횟수가 늘수록 악한 영에 잡혀 이상한 짓을 하는것을 볼수가 있다. 모든 생각과 사고방식이 사로잡혀버린다. 심각해지기 시작한다. 이제 사단이 그 영을 장악하게 된다. “지혜로운 자들을 물리쳐 그들의 지식을 어리석게 하며” 지혜롭고 똑똑한 사람들도 찾기 시작하면 점점 바보같고 이상한짓을 하고 결정적인 순간에 이상한 판단을 하게 되는것이다. 우리 교회에는 없지만 많은 젊은 렘넌트들이 점을 보러 점쟁이 찾아간다, 이것은 아주 멸방받을 일이다. 그러나 주의 종들은 26절에 보면, “그의 종의 말을 세워 주며 그의 사자들의 계획을 성취하게 하며 예루살렘에 대하여는 이르기를 거기에 사람이 살리라 하며 유다 성읍들에 대하여는 중건될 것이라 내가 그 황폐한 곳들을 복구시키리라 하며” 라고 나온다. 주의 종들, 하나님의 언약 안에서 살려고 하고 말씀 붙잡고 사는 사람들에게는 하나님께서 모든것을 회복시켜 주신다는것을 말하는것이다. 여러분, 우리가 말씀 지키며 사는것이 당장에는 별 변화가 없는것처럼 보인다. 그러나 이것이 계속 날이 지나고 달이 지나면 저절로 주변과 환경이 변화 하는것을 볼수가 있다. 신앙이 점점 회복되기 시작된다. 나도 모르게 삶이 회복되어가는것을 볼수가있다. 얼굴 색부터 달라진다. 얼굴이 항상 날카롭게 있다가 편안하게 평강이 임하는것을 볼수가있다. 항상 지지 않으려고 날이 서있던 사람이 마음에 여유가 생기고 베푸는 모습으로 변하게된다. 응답 받는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
3. 역사를 주관하시는 하나님 The Lord who dictates history
1) 고레스를 세우심 The Lord edifies Cyrus
사 Isaiah 44:27-28
27절, “깊음에 대하여는 이르기를 마르라 내가 네 강물들을 마르게 하리라 하며” 이 말씀은 이스라엘이 앞으로 바벨론에 포로로 가게 될것인데 나중에 돌아올때 이러한 일이 생길것이다 하는 말씀이다. 지금 우리는 그때 그런 일이 있었구나 싶지만, 당시 사람의 입장, 이사야 시절을 보면 포로로 잡혀갈만큼 바벨론이 그리 강한 나라도 아니였다. 200년 후에 앞으로 이런 일이 있을것이다 하며 예언 하는것이다. 그때 강물을 마르게 할것이다 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 이 상황은 실제로 유브라데강이 마르게 되는 사건으로 실현된다. 바벨론이 세계 최고 강대국이 되지 않나. 바벨론이 얼마나 성이 거대하고 웅장했는지, 성주변에 유브라데 강이 빙둘러 흐르게 만들었다. 그리고 강물이 성 중간에 흘러 빠져들어가게 해놓았다. 그러니 중간에 강이 들어오니 거기서 뱃놀이도 하고 놀았다. 성주위에 흐르게 넓게 만들어서 적군이 강을 건너지 않으면 성을 공격할수 없게 되었다. 그러니까 배를 타고 강을 건너는 순간 벌써 다 죽임을 당하는 구조로 완벽한 난공불락의 강한 성이였다. 그런데 28절 말씀 보면, “고레스에 대하여는 이르기를 내 목자라 그가 나의 모든 기쁨을 성취하리라 하며 예루살렘에 대하여는 이르기를 중건되리라 하며 성전에 대하여는 네 기초가 놓여지리라 하는 자니라.” 그 막강한 바벨론 성을 내가 세운 목자, 고레스 통해서 그것이 마르게 하는것을 성취 하겠다 이 말씀이다. 고레스가 강의 상류에 가서 흐르는 강물을 다른데로 돌려버렸다. 그러니 강이 마르기 시작한것이다. 물이 점점 줄기 시작하고 바닥에 땅이 보이기 시작한것이다. 그러니까 성으로 들어왔던 강물이 마치 큰 구멍이 난것처럼 틈이 생긴것이다. 고레스 왕의 군사들이 그길로 뛰어서 들어간것이다. 그렇게 아주 쉽게 바벨론이 점령 되는것을 볼수가 있다. 그런데 오늘 말씀 보게 되면 하나님께서, 고레스가 한것이 아니라 바로 내가 그렇게 했노라 하시는것이다. 또 하시는 말씀이, “예루살렘에 대하여는 이르기를 중건되리라 하며 성전에 대하여는 네 기초가 놓여지리라 하는 자니라,” 다시 예루살렘과 그 성전이 지어질것을 예언 하셨다. 영국 런던에 대영박물관 2층 52번 방에는 페르시아 전시관이 있다고 한다. 그곳에 가면 고레스가 쓴 글씨가 나타나는데, 원통으로 되어진 토기로 만든 석판이 있다고 한다. 거기서 고레스가 직접 그때 일어났던 사건을 기록한 내용이 있다. 그 내용을 보면 “나는 버려져있는 그들의 땅에 구원의 손을 베풀었다. 나는 티그리스강 저편에 있는 신성한 도시로 예전의 그들과 함께 존재했을 신상들을 되돌려보냈으며 그것들을 위해 성소도 짓게했다" 하는 내용이 기록되어있다. 실질적으로 앞으로 그러한 일이 있을것 이라는 주님의 말씀이 그대로 기록되었을 뿐만 아니라 실제로 고레스가 선포한 내용이 기록되어 있다는 말이다. 많은 사람들이 그때까지만 해도 고레스가 점령했다 이런 얘기 듣고 믿지 않았다고 한다. 페르시아 고레스가 예루살렘 성전 짓게했다 아무도 믿지 않은것이다. 성경에만 기록되어 있는것이지 그것을 우리가 어떻게 믿나 했다. 그런데 이 석판을 발견한뒤 아, 정말 일어났던 사건이구나 하면서 많은 사람들이 입을 다물었다 한다. 여러분, 우리가 여기서 분명한것 붙잡아야한다. 세계 최 강대국도 하나님께서 하루만에 망하게 하실수 있다. 페르시아도 하나님께서 순간적으로 세우셨고 한 민족을 포로로 만들기도 하신다. 또 건져내서 자유인도 되게 하시는것이다. 모든것을 주관 하시는분이 바로 하나님이시다. 나라 뿐만 아니라 나 개인의 삶도 주관하고 계신다. 그분이 바로 우리 아버지인줄 믿는다. 이 사실 붙잡으시라. 어마어마하신 하나님이 바로 우리 아버지이시다.
2) 아름다운 소식 The beautiful news
과거문제 해결(롬10:9-10) The solution to the past problem (Romans 10:9-10)
현재문제 해결(롬10:11) The solution to the present problem (Romans 10:11)
미래문제 해결(롬10:15) The solution to the future problem (Romans 10:11)
그렇다면 우리가 언약을 잡아야겠다. 이 아름다운 소식을 우리가 전할수 있어야 될줄 믿는다. 예수님의 구원은 과거, 현재, 미래의 구원을 말한다. 예수님의 십자가의 능력, 구속의 능력은 구약 시대 사람도 십자가 통해 구원 받았고 그때 살던 사람들도 십자가 통해 구원 받았고 앞으로 나타날 사람들도 십자가 통해서만 구원 받을수 있는것이다. 모든 문제의 해답은 그리스도 라는 사실을 꼭 붙잡는것이다. 그러면 우리 개인의 과거 문제는 어떻게 해결받나. 롬 10:9-10, “네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라. 10 사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 시인하여 구원에 이르느니라.” 예수님께서 나의 죄 위해 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시고 부활하셨다는 사실을 분명히 믿고 받아들이는 순간에 우리의 과거 문제는 완전히 해결 되는것이다. 나의 모든 과거의 흑암 문제가 완전히 해결 되는것이다. 내가 하나님의 자녀 되는 축복을 받게 되는것이다. 죄로 인해 받은 모든 저주와 재앙이 그 순간 무너지게 되는것이다. 이 빽빽한 구름, 안개처럼 가득하고 보이지 않던 나의 죄가 완전히 사라지고 하나님 앞에 바로 설수 있는 축복을 받는것이다. 두번째로 현재 문제가 해결된다. 롬 10:11, “성경에 이르되 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라 하니.” 어떤 문제, 어떤 사건이 있다 한들, 내가 도저히 해결치 못할 문제가 있든 믿는 순간에 부끄러움을 당하지 않는다는 말이다. 왜 그렇나. 성삼위 하나님 보좌의 능력이 나에게 있기 때문이다. 내가 기도할때 마다 시공간을 초월하는 능력에 역사가 일어나기 때문이다. 내가 주님을 붙잡는 순간 내가 살고 내 후손이 살아나게 된다. 세번째, 미래 문제가 해결된다. 롬10:15, “보내심을 받지 아니하였으면 어찌 전파하리요 기록된 바 아름답도다 좋은 소식을 전하는 자들의 발이여 함과 같으니라.” 이 주님의 보내심을 받은 길이 있는 자의 발길을 아름답게 생각 하시는것이다. 가장 축복된 발길로 보는것이다. 그 길에 우리가 있게 되면 하나님께서 우리의 미래를 완벽하게 인도해주실줄 믿는다. 이 축복 받는 여러분 되실줄 믿는다.
결론 Conclusion
사 Isaiah 44:21
말씀 맺겠다. 21절 말씀 다시 보시라, “야곱아 이스라엘아 이 일을 기억하라 너는 내 종이니라 내가 너를 지었으니 너는 내 종이니라 이스라엘아 너는 나에게 잊혀지지 아니하리라”. 이 말씀이 바로 여러분들을 향하신 하나님의 들려질 음성인줄 믿는다. 여러분들의 아버지께서 지금 여러분들에게 하신 말씀이다. 사랑하는 자야, 내가 오늘 너에게 주는 말씀이 바로 이것이니 결코 잊지 말라. 항상 이 말씀 붙들고 승리하시기를 바란다.

“21 'Remember these, O Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! 22 I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you. 23 Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And glorified Himself in Israel. 24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: 'I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself; 25 Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, And drives diviners mad; Who turns wise men backward, And makes their knowledge foolishness; 26 Who confirms the word of His servant, And performs the counsel of His messengers; Who says to Jerusalem, 'You shall be inhabited,' To the cities of Judah, 'You shall be built,' And I will raise up her waste places;' 27 Who says to the deep, 'Be dry! And I will dry up your rivers'; 28 Who says of Cyrus, 'He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, 'You shall be built," And to the temple, "Your foundation shall be laid.' ' ”
Introduction
I heard a testimony that I heard and it was about a person in Busan, and was living his walk of faith at a church in Busan. He received a lot of blessings from God and was living a good walk of faith before God as an elder. God blessed him greatly that he was able to become a port administrator. He was able to flourish greatly financially. Due to his financial gains, he gave a lot of thanksgiving to God but due to their wealth, his wife’s faith started dwelling. Satan was attacking and started working against the wife and the elder started falling into gambling. But a problem arose. On his way to work, someone hit his car. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt in his car so when he was hit from the back, his body fell forward and he passed away right at the spot. His neck broke so it caused his death. If you don’t know God’s blessings for you then you will end up losing all of it. If you are thankful for God’s grace, you should enter into God’s grace more but you are not able to and end up falling more into the world; therefore, you end up losing hold of all of God’s grace and blessings. This may sound like a personal story but this was happening to the Israelites as well. God was calling the Israelites, who worshiped idols forward as His chosen people and gave them great blessings. But they failed to enjoy God’s blessings and fell deeper into physical desires and idolatry, and fell into captivity and slavery as a result. If you look at today’s main scripture, we can see that God pulled them out of their misery and suffering through His love. God was giving them another opportunity for them to receive His blessings and we can see that God wanted to bless them again. You can see that God tried to bless them but even though God did this for them, instead of glorifying and thanking God, they started worshiping idols and betrayed God once again. If you look at this, then you can see that God’s heart and love for us is unchanging. Because it was mankind who departed from God; God’s love for mankind never changed once. We need to hold onto today’s message not for just the Israelites but this a message that God has given to us today.
1. The Eradication of Sin, Followed By Praise
1) Remember
Verse 21 - God loved the Israelites so much that He was pleading for them not to forget about Him and to return back to Him. From here, God was pleading for them to remember. Remember what? Remember two things. The first thing, remember who they are and to remember who God is; this was the second thing. Who are you? The Israelites were His servants. And, God is the Creator God. The reason why God cannot forget about the Israelites and us is that because we are His servants. God will never forget His servants. Being God’s servants means that we have been chosen to fulfill and keep His covenant. God said that He created us. The fact that He created us means that He has chosen us. Our parents had us as their children; the same way, God created us. We are God’s children so that is why God said that He can never forget us.
Isaiah 43:4 “Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life.” - When God thinks about us, He thinks of us as so precious and honorable. We are precious beings before God, we must hold onto this. God will never forget about us and will never abandon us. This is because we are children of God.
2) For I have redeemed you
Verse 22 - God speaks about sin and last time we spoke about how man would create idols out of physical things. Man would create these idols and worship them to save them. These idols were seen as a most hopeless act and the idol worshipers were seen as hopeless before Him. That is why God was pleading for these idol worshipers to return back to Him. This is astounding. God said that He will redeem them. This is talking about what forgiveness and repentance is, and we can see what these things are from here. Do you think forgiveness is first or repentance is first? When you look at the main scripture today, it says that redemption and forgiveness comes first. This shows that God’s endless and merciful grace is present. God commands for us to repent because He said that He will redeem us. This means that He has already forgiven us, we just need to come before God and repent. This may be confusing because people may think that we need to repent in order to receive forgiveness but you have to understand God’s grace. In front of God, His grace is able to give us redemption and forgiveness. God gives us redemption of our sins, and allows us to seek forgiveness and then salvation by God’s grace. If you look at this carefully, we can see that God sends His messengers to share the gospel to other people. God is calling for His people to receive His salvation. The moment you hear the gospel, you accept the gospel and you get called by God. When we become born again, then we are able to seek God’s redemption. Then, what does it mean by redemption? Redemption was able to happen because of God who paid the price for us. God died on the cross for us on the cross and died for our sins, that is why we are able to seek forgiveness and repentance. God said that He has redeemed us. This means that He has forgiven us. God said that He will cleanse and redeem us like a fog and morning mist coming upon the morning air. That is why God is telling us to remember Him, our Savior. If we are able to understand this, then we are able to give praise to God.
2. The Reason for Praise
1) Redemption
Verses 23-24 - All of the trees and plants, they have been created by God and they are all praising God. They have praised God because God has redeemed Israel. This was because through the redemption of His people, He will be glorified and praised once again. Since God has redeemed us, we must give praise and glory to God. When mankind is redeemed, all of the creations of this world have no choice but to give glory and praise to God. We don’t understand the lengths and extent of what happens when we receive salvation from God. We don’t see the spiritual force and works at work when mankind becomes saved. When a man returns back to God, the whole heavens is giving praise and holding a festival before God.
Verse 24 - God has spoken once again that He created us and we are His redeemer. Do you understand this? God is our redeemer. Are you moved by this at all? God was proclaiming that He will complete His plan for redemption, which means that He will give us salvation. We know this plan of salvation and that occurred through Jesus Christ. God was always giving praise and rejoicing because God knew that He would send the Messiah to save His people.
2) The judgment upon idol worshipers
Verses 25-26 - What about the idol worshipers and those who fall into divination? Those who lie to others and follow after fortune tellers, why do people seek after these people? It is because these people give them false hope. They think they are being healed when they visit these liars and fortune tellers. It may sound astounding what these people are telling people. But people are being deceived and God is telling us not to be deceived. What they are saying may sound great and nice but the result will be destruction and failure. And severe spiritual and mental problems will come as a result as well. These fortune tellers will eventually fall into severe spiritual and mental problems. I have witnessed this in the field. When you visit shamans and fortune tellers numerous times, then you will see that these people who follow after these people, they end up falling deeper and deeper into spiritual and mental problems. This is Satan’s way of captivating the minds of people who follow after these liars and deceptions. Also, people who seek after great knowledge of this world, they will end up becoming fools and end up making foolish decisions. Many young remnants that I have seen in Korea, they seek after fortune tellers, they are just leading themselves into destruction and failure.
Verse 26 - Those who try to follow after God’s word and stay within it, God said that He will do anything to protect and restore all things for them. We may seem like nothing is changing when we stay inside of God’s word and prayer but if we continue to stay imprinted within this, then we will see gradual change and restoration in our lives. We will see restoration within our walk of faith. Without us knowing, we will see change within our lives gradually. Even the color of our faces will change. Long time ago, we used to appear angry and powerless but later on, we will change with facial expressions of peace and leisure. May you receive answers.
3. The Lord Who Dictates History
1) The Lord edifies Cyrus
Verses 27-28 - When we look at the history during the time of Isaac, Israel wasn’t in slavery yet. God was saying that He will dry up the lands of Israel and Israel will face suffering. Before all of this happened, Babylon was a great nation and a great river was flowing through Babylon back then. Babylon was structured back then that nations couldn’t attack Babylon without bypassing their river. That is why many nations’ armies faced their demise even before crossing the river to get to Babylon.
Verse 28 - God already foretold that Israel will face destruction through Babylon but Persia will destroy Babylon. Persia drained the water that was flowing through Babylon and as a result, all of the water in the river started drying up. The river had no water left and it became a dry land later on, which caused a huge hole and opening to appear before Babylon. The armies and soldiers of Persia just ran through this huge opening and attacked Babylon. This caused Persia to completely control and captivate Babylon. But, we can see that God was the one who did all of this and was the one who used Persia to destroy Babylon. God said that He will rebuild Jerusalem and the temple of Jerusalem. There is a museum in London and there are a lot of artifacts of Persia there. This room that contains all of these artifacts had a lot of things that belonged to Cyrus, the king of Persia. Many records of Cyrus and his writings are located there as well. Realistically speaking, not only did God foretell that Jerusalem be restored but Cyrus wrote down the exact prophecy of God as well. There are people who have skepticism of this but we can see that it was written in the records of history and by Cyrus, it was proven historically. From here, we must hold onto something. Even a powerful nation, they were destroyed by God in just one night. God built Persia but was the one who destroyed them. God can make an entire nation fall into slavery. The one who controls all things is God. Not only is God in control of nations but has control over our lives. This God is our Father. Hold onto this. God the Almighty is our Father. Then, we must hold onto God’s covenant. We need to relay the good news of the gospel.
2) The beautiful news
God solved our past, present, and future problems. God gave salvation to the people of our past, to the people of the present, and people of the future through the event of the cross. The answer to all our problems is Jesus Christ alone, we must hold onto this. Then, what about our past problems? How can we solve them?
The solution to the past problem (Romans 10:9-10 “If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”) - Jesus died on the cross and resurrected, the moment we believe and hold onto this, then our past problems will be solved once and for all. All of our past problems and darkness have been all solved and resolved. We have been blessed by God. All of our sins and curses have all been solved. All of the morning mist of darkness that has taken over us, it has all been cleared and cleansed through the death of Jesus on the cross.
The solution to the present problem (Romans 10:11 “For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.' ”) - No matter what problem or incident comes before us, the moment we believe, then that problem will be solved. Why is that? Because the blessing of the Triune God and the power of the heavenly throne is upon us. When we pray, the power of the heavenly throne and Triune God comes upon us. The moment we hold onto Christ, then we will be saved along with our next generation.
The solution to the future problem (Romans 10:15 “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!' ”) - Those who have been chosen by God, God sees us as people with beautiful feet. We possess the most blessed feet. When we live our lives for sharing the gospel of Christ, then we are heading towards the greatest path of blessings.
Conclusion
Verse 21 - This message is the message that God has given to us. This is God’s voice for us. This is the message that God our Father has given to us. God tells us not to forget this word. Hold onto this word and be victorious always.
