“너희의 이른 곳은 만질만한 불 붙는 산과 흑운과 흑암과 폭풍과 나팔 소리와 말하는 소리가 아니라 그 소리를 듣는 자들은 더 말씀하지 아니하시기를 구하였으니 이는 짐승이라도 산에 이르거든 돌로 침을 당하리라 하신 명을 저희가 견디지 못함이라 그 보이는 바가 이렇듯이 무섭기로 모세도 이르되 내가 심히 두렵고 떨린다 하였으나” (히브리서 12:18-21)
서론
아브라함 링컨이 남북 전쟁 할때 아주 어려운 상황에 처했다. 그때 교회의 대표자로 링컨을 찾아온 사람이 있었다. 그 사람이 링컨을 찾아와 위로와 격려의 말을 했다고 한다. 링컨씨, 우리는 주님이 우리 편에 계시다는것을 확실히 믿고 있습니다 라고 했다. 그때 그 이야기를 들은 링컨이 이렇게 대답했다고 한다. 네, 진실로 나의 관심은 우리 주님이 어느편에 계시는것이 아닙니다. 단지 우리가 과연 주님의 편에 서 있는가 하는데에 모든 관심이 있습니다. 참 복음적인 신앙관 인것 같다. 우리는 문제가 생기게 되면 나의 문제를 해결해 달라고 하나님 앞에 간절히 기도한다. 우리는 그것을 놓고 기도 해야 한다, 그러나 더 중요한것은 그 문제 속에 하나님의 뜻과 계획이 무엇인가? 를 찾는데에 있다. 우리가 그러한 기도를 하며 문제 가운데 하나님의 계획을 발견하게 되면 하나님께서는 미리 그 문제에 대한 응답을 가지고 기다리고 계실줄을 믿는다. 그것이 우리가 분명히 붙잡아야 할 응답의 비밀이다. 하나님께서는 문제를 주실때 계획을 가지고 그 문제를 주신다, 이것 붙잡을때 반드시 승리 하게 될줄을 믿는다. 분명히 잡을것은 하나님 께서는 우리에게 축복 주기를 원하시고 응답을 주시기를 원하신다는 사실이다. 우리가 그것만 붙잡으면 절대로 실패 할수가 없다.
1. 성부 하나님의 임재 The presence of God the Father
1) 시내산에 임하신 하나님 God’s presence on Mount Sinai
히 Hebrews 12:18-21
오늘 말씀 참 중요한 말씀으로 저희에게 주셨다. 18절-19절 말씀 다시 읽어보겠다, “너희의 이른 곳은 만질만한 불 붙는 산과 흑운과 흑암과 폭풍과 나팔 소리와 말하는 소리가 아니라 그 소리를 듣는 자들은 더 말씀하지 아니하시기를 구하였으니.” 이 말씀 읽고 깜짝 놀랐다, 너무나 중요한 말씀 이라는것을 붙잡았다. 왜냐하면, 천지를 창조하고 온 우주 만물을 다스리시는 하나님께서 직접 실질적으로 이 땅에 임하셨다는 사실이다. 여기서 만질수 있는 산에 임하셨고 소리를 들을수 있도록 임하셨다고 나와있다. 어마어마한 사건이 아닌가. 임재의 모습이 정확히 나와있다. 불 붙는 산과 침침함과 흑운과 폭풍 가운데 임하셨다고 했다. 왜 이렇게 어둡게 임하셨을까, 하나님은 빛이신데. 왜 이렇게 임하실때 불 붙는 산과 흑암과 폭풍 가운데 임하셨나. 이것은 우리 인간의 죄 때문 인것이다. 분명한것은 하나님께서는 절대로 죄를 용납하지 못하시는 하나님인것을 우리가 붙잡아야한다. 20절 말씀에 보게 되면, “이는 짐승이라도 산에 이르거든 돌로 침을 당하리라 하신 명을 저희가 견디지 못함이라.” 하나님이 시내산에 임할때 사람들이 벌벌 떨고 짐승 까지도 범하게 되면 돌로 침을 당해 죽는 그런 일이 생긴다고 말씀 하고 있다. 이것은 무엇을 이야기 하나. 우리가 하나님 앞에 구원을 받았다 해도 우리 안에 죄의 오염된 더러운 부분이 육체 가운데 남아있기 때문에 하나님을 본 자는 즉시 죽을수 밖에 없다는 말이다. 그렇다면 하나님께서 어떻게 구름 가운데서 흑암과 폭풍 중에 나타나신 이유를 발견할수 있다. 이것은 하나님이 우리를 극진히 사랑하시는 가운데 그 모습을 보여주는것을 나타낸다. 우리 인간을 만나기 위해, 직접 얼굴을 보게 되면 다 죽으니까 얼굴을 흑암과 구름 가운데 가리시며 우리 앞에 나타나신것을 말하는것이다.
2) 이스라엘을 구원하신 하나님 God’s salvation for Israel
출 Exodus 12:12, 13, 19:4
그 하나님은 어떤 하나님 이신가, 바로 심판의 하나님이 아니라 이스라엘을 구원하신 하나님 이시다. 애굽에 있을때 열가지 종류의 우상을 완전히 심판 하셨다. 뿐만 아니라, 신의 아들이라 불리우는 바로의 장자 까지 심판 해버리셨다. 출 12:12 말씀 보면 하나님께서 말씀하신 부분이 나온다, “내가 그 밤에 애굽 땅에 두루 다니며 사람이나 짐승을 막론하고 애굽 땅에 있는 모든 처음 난 것을 다 치고 애굽의 모든 신을 내가 심판하리라 나는 여호와라.” 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성을 구원할때 그냥 하신것이 아니라 애굽에서 그동안 섬겼던 모든 우상을 완전히 멸해 버리시고 그것을 섬겼던 사람들까지도 완전히 심판 하시고 이스라엘 백성들을 거기서 건져낸 것을 볼수가 있다. 애굽 사람들은 자신들이 섬기는 신 때문에 강대국이 되고 부귀하고 풍족한 삶을 살수 있었다고 믿었다. 하나님께서는 모든것을 멸망 시키시며 모든 부와 생명의 주관자는 바로 여호와 하나님인 나 이다, 내가 바로 왕 이다 하는것을 보여주신것이다. 출 12:13 말씀 보게 되면, “내가 피를 볼 때에 너희를 넘어가리니 재앙이 너희에게 내려 멸하지 아니하리라.” 하며 이스라엘 백성들에게 말씀 하신다. 모든 사람은 다 죽어야 하는데 너희들은 양의 피를 바르면 그 피를 보고 내가 너희들의 장자를 살려줄것이다 라고 하신것이다. 그날 다 심판 받는데 그 집에 양에 피를 바른데는 양이 대신 죽었으니 그냥 넘어갔다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성들 사랑하셔서 그 비밀을 가르쳐 주신것이다. 이것이 무엇을 의미하나. 예수 그리스도의 피를 믿는 자는 어떤 일이 있던지 살것이라는 사실이다. 출19:4에 이야기 하고 있다, “내가 애굽 사람에게 어떻게 행하였음과 내가 어떻게 독수리 날개로 너희를 업어 내게로 인도하였음을 너희가 보았느니라.” 하나님께서 자기 백성들을 건져 내실때 그냥 하신것이 아니라 독수리가 자기 새끼들을 업어서 나르듯이 너희를 내 새끼처럼 업어서 출애굽 시키시겠다 하신것이다. 하나님께서 업어 버리면 그 누구도 하나님에게서 뺏어갈 자가 없다. 내가 너희를 완전히 구원 시켜 주었다 하는 말이다. 분명히 잡으시기를 바란다. 내가 그리스도를 영접하고 하나님의 자녀가 되면 어떤 일이 있더라도 우리는 하나님의 손에서 뺏을자가 없다. 건져내시고 거기서 끝난것이 아니다.
2. 땅에서 받으시는 첫예배 First worship on earth
1) 예배 제도를 세우심 Establishment of worship policies
출 Exodus 20:18-19, 21, 19:10-11, 9
시내 산에 모아놓고 하나님께서는 더 큰 축복을 예비 하셨다. 예배를 통해서 그 축복을 주시려는 것이다. 그래서 이 시내산에 나타난것은 하나님께서 지상에서 받으시는 예배를 드리는 모습이 나오는거다. 하나님께서 직접 예배를 주관 하시고 받으시는것이다. 출애굽기 20:18-19 보면 자세히 나온다, “뭇 백성이 우레와 번개와 나팔 소리와 산의 연기를 본지라 그들이 볼 때에 떨며 멀리 서서”. 하나님께서 인도 하시는데 우레와 번개 속에 임재 하시는데 나팔 소리가 들렸다고 이야기 하고 있다. 이 나팔 소리는, 트럼펫 소리인데 천사들이 찬양하는 소리이다. 하나님이 임재 하실때 천사들이 찬양하는 모습을 나타내는것이다. 그런데 이 모습을 본 백성들은 벌벌 떨며 앉아있는것이다. 그러면서 뭐라고 하나, “모세에게 이르되 당신이 우리에게 말씀하소서 우리가 들으리이다 하나님이 우리에게 말씀하시지 말게 하소서 우리가 죽을까 하나이다.” 하늘에서 번개 치는 소리가 나니 벌벌 떨면서 모세에게 우리는 가지 않고 당신이 말하는 것을 전달해 들을테니 하나님이 우리에게 직접 말씀하게 하지 말아달라 부탁 하는 말이다. 다시 말하면 이스라엘 백성들이 중보자를 요구 하는것이다. 그때에 출20:21절 말씀 보게 되면, “백성은 멀리 서 있고 모세는 하나님이 계신 흑암으로 가까이 가니라” 라고 나와있다. 본문 21절 말씀 보면 모세가 하나님 앞에 갈때 모습이 나온다, “그 보이는 바가 이렇듯이 무섭기로 모세도 이르되 내가 심히 두렵고 떨린다 하였으나.” 모세 혼자 흑암 속에 하나님 앞으로 가는데, 자기도 심히 두렵고 떨리는 마음으로 하나님 앞에 찾아 갔다는 말이다. 여기서 우리가 꼭 붙잡아야 할것이 있다. 출애굽기 19:10-11 말씀이다, “여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 백성에게로 가서 오늘과 내일 그들을 성결하게 하며 그들에게 옷을 빨게 하고 11 준비하게 하여 셋째 날을 기다리게 하라” 중요한 말씀 주시고 계신다. 하나님께 나아올때, 하나님께 예배를 드릴때 우리가 어떤 준비를 해야 할것이냐 하는것을 직접 말씀하고 계신것이다. 3일 전에 몸을 정결케 하고 옷을 빨고 깨끗한 마음과 몸으로 나아오라는것이다. 거룩하신 하나님 앞에 이러한 자세로 예배를 드려야겠다. “셋째 날을 기다리게 하라 이는 셋째 날에 나 여호와가 온 백성의 목전에서 시내 산에 강림할 것임이니” 지금 이 시간에도 하나님 께서는 성령을 통해 역사하고 계시고 임재해 계심을 믿는다. 저는 항상 예배 드릴때 하나님 보좌 앞을 바라보며 예배를 드리고 있다. 출 19:9 말씀 보면, “여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 내가 빽빽한 구름 가운데서 네게 임함은 내가 너와 말하는 것을 백성들이 듣게 하며 또한 너를 영영히 믿게 하려 함이니라” 라고 나와있다. 하나님과 백성들 사이에 중보자로 모세를 세웠는데 모세가 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 전하는것을 믿게 하기 위해 여기에 너를 세웠다 하는 말씀이다. 비록 모세가 말을 하고 있지만 모세가 하는 말이 아닌 하나님의 말씀을 전하는것임 알게 하겠다 하는 말이다. 하나님의 메시지 전달 방법이 바로 이것이다. 그래서 저도 말씀을 증거할때 하나님 앞에 간절히 말씀을 받고 주신 말씀을 여러분께 증거한다. 기도할때도 말씀 받을때 다른 기도 하지 않고 하나님, 정말 하나님께서 우리 교회에 성취시키실 말씀을 주세요, 하나님 정말 하나님께서 원하시는 말씀을 주세요 하고 기도한다. 하나님은 분명히 내가 우리 모든 성도들의 문제와 사정을 알수 없지만, 하나님께서는 그 모든것에 대한 답을 가지고 계시지 않습니까, 그 답이 말씀을 통해 성취되게 해주세요 하고 정말 간절히 기도한다. 가끔은 잠 자는데 깨우시면서 까지 말씀 정리 하도록 하시기도 한다.
2) 영원한 언약을 주심 God bestows the eternal covenant
출 Exodus 19:6, 20:2-3
마 Matthew 22:37-40
레 Leviticus 11:45
오늘 말씀 보게 되면 하나님께서 직접 와서 첫 예배를 드리시는 장면에서 아주 중요한 언약 세가지를 주시는것을 볼수가 있다. 이것을 우리가 꼭 붙잡아야겠다. 저와 여러분이 꼭 붙잡아야 할 부분이다.
첫번째로 출애굽기 19:6 말씀 주셨다, “너희가 내게 대하여 제사장 나라가 되며 거룩한 백성이 되리라”, 제사장 나라 라는 말은 모든 족속을 살릴수 있는 나라로 너희를 세웠다 하는 것을 말한다. 다시 말씀 드리면 너희를 구원한 이유는 온 세계를 복음화 시키고 살리기 위해 너희를 불렀다 하는것이다. 우리가 구원 받은 이유가 바로 뭔가, 구원받지 못한 사람들 살리게 하기 위해 구원 받은 너희를 여기에 앉혔다 이 말이다. 꼭 잡으셔야 한다. 두번째 이다. 출애굽기 20:2-17 말씀에 나타나고 있다, 하나님께서는 십계명에 말씀을 주셨다. 예수님 께서는 마 22:37-40 에 이 십계명의 말씀을 마음과 뜻과 생명을 다해 하나님을 사랑하는것 이고 네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하는것 이다 라고 하신다. 이것을 우리가 꼭 잡아야한다. 그래서 지난 시간에도 말했지만, 하나님과의 화평을 원하시고, 이웃과의 화평을 원하신다 나와있다. 세번째 주신 말씀이 레위기 11:45 말씀이다. 나는 너희의 하나님이 되려고 너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도 하여 낸 여호와라 내가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩하라. 내가 너희를 구원해서 내 자식으로 삼았지 않느냐, 내가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩하게 살아라 이런 말씀이다. 그래서 지난번에 이야기 했듯, 하나님과 화평, 이웃과의 화평, 그리고 거룩함을 따르지 않으면, 이것 없이는 아무도 주를 보지 못하리라 말씀 하셨다. 응답 받기 위해서는 반드시 이것을 붙잡고 있어야 하고 붙잡고 있으면 반드시 응답 볼거라는 말이다. 하나님 응답받기 너무 쉽다. 마음과 생명과 뜻을 다해 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 내 몸과 같이 사랑 하면 되는것이다. 하나님께서 거룩하니 그처럼 거룩한 삶을 살기 위해 우리가 노력 하면 되는것이다. 그런데 이스라엘 백성들이 이에 실패하게 된다. 많은 사람들이 교회를 다니는데도 이것에 실패하고 있다. 응답 받지 못하는 삶을 살아가고 있다. 그 원인이 무엇인가 이다. 그 원인은 이 말씀을 율법 적으로 받아들이기 때문이다. 하나님께서 우리에게 복음을 주셨는데 그것을 복음 아닌 율법으로 받게 되면 너무나 힘든것이다. 우리가 복음적으로 받는 비밀을 다시 한번 붙잡으시기를 바란다. 복음으로 잡는 방법은 하나님 께서 자녀된 우리에게 주신 보좌의 축복을 누리기만 하면 되는것이다. 우리는 하나님의 자녀가 아닌가, 그렇다면 자녀된 신분과 권세가 이미 부여 된것이다. 그것을 누리기만 하면 되는것이고 그렇게 되면 너무나도 쉽게 이루어 지는것이다.
3. 보좌의 축복 Heavenly blessings
1) 보좌의 능력 Heavenly power
계 Revelation 8:4-5
먼저 보좌의 축복 누리시기를 바란다. 계시록 8:4-4 말씀 보면, “향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는 지라. 5 천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라.” 하고 말씀하고 있다. 여러분, 보좌의 능력 어떻게 누리나. 나의 모든 기도와 내 모든 형편을 나를 수호하고 있는 천사가 이 모든것을 가지고 하나님 앞에 간다는 사실을 먼저 알아야한다. 어려운 일 당하고 계시나. 그것 위해 기도하고 계신가. 모든것을 하나님 앞에 가지고 올라가고 있다. 천사가 향로에 불을 담아 땅에 쏟는다고 나와있다. 기도가 응답이 되면서 모든 가로 막혔던 흑암이 꺾이는것이다. 실질적으로 이루어 지는 일이다. 생각만 하고 계시는가, 실질적으로 이루어지고 있는 일 임을 아시기를 바란다. 분명한것은 성삼위 하나님께서는 지금도 살아계시며 눈에 안 보이게 지금도 우리를 도우시고 계신다. 보좌의 축복, 생명의 축복, 전무후무한 축복을 이루시기 위해 준비하고 계신다. 우리 통해 행하시기를 원하시는 모든 계획 가지고 기다리고 계신다. 이 사실 믿으시나. 이것을 정말 하루에 오분만 이라도 붙잡고 누리게 되면 문제는 해결 된다는것이다. 아, 천사가 지금 나를 붙잡고 보고 있다 하는 사실을 분명히 붙잡으시라. 시내산에 임하셨던 그 살아계신 하나님께서 지금도 나를 보고 계신다는 사실을 믿으시라. 그러면 그 믿음이 각인 되기 시작한다. 그러면 어떤 일을 만나든지 24시로 항상 누리게 된다, 주님께서 나를 알고 계시니 말이다. 그 믿음을 가질때 하나님께서는 나에게도 출애굽과 같은 어마어마한 역사를 일으키신다. 믿는 그 순간에 역사가 나타날줄 믿는다. 우리가 믿는다는것은 생각 만 하는것이 아니라 정말로 영적으로 모든것이 이루어 지고 있는 사실을 믿고 아는것을 말한다. 이것을 누리게 되면 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 보좌의 달란트를 누릴수 있는 축복을 주신다.
2) 보좌의 달란트 Heavenly talent
마 Matthew 9:9
하나님 께서는 누구에게나 천재성을 주셨다. 우리가 못 찾고 있을 뿐이다. 하나님 앞에서 하나님이 주신 천재성이 무엇인가 알아야 한다는 말이다. 이것을 어떻게 찾는가. 보좌의 능력을 계속 믿으며 기도해 나갈때 하나님께서는 이것을 깨닫게 하신다. 마태복음 9:9 보게 되면, “예수께서 그 곳을 떠나 지나가시다가 마태라 하는 사람이 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 이르시되 나를 따르라 하시니 일어나 따르니라.” 라고 나온다. 세금 거두러 다니던 마태를 예수님께서 부르셨다는 말이다. 왜 부르셨나. 너의 달란트는 세금 것는것이 아니야, 나를 따라와 하신것이다. 어떻게 해서 이러한 축복 받게 되었나. 주님을 만나는 순간에 발견이 된것이다. 마태는 마태복음 이라는 성경을 기록하는 엄청난 역사를 일으켰다. 마태복음 때문에 신약과 구약을 연결하는 관계성을 우리가 깨달을수 있게 되었다. 이 축복 받으시기를 바란다. 여러분은 분명 하나님께 영광 돌릴수 있는, 하나님이 기뻐하실 천재성 가지고 있다. 찾으시고 하나님께 영광 돌리시기를 바란다.
3) 보좌의 미션 Heavenly mission
사 Isaiah 60:1
사 Isaiah 62:6-7
욜 Joel 2:29-30
그렇다면 우리가 붙잡을 보좌의 미션이다. 이사야 60:1 에 보면, “일어나라 빛을 발하라 이는 네 빛이 이르렀고 여호와의 영광이 네 위에 임하였음이니라.” 우리는 이미 하나님의 자녀이다. 우리 속에 성령의 빛이 이미 비치고 있다. 여호와의 영광이 네 속에 임하여 있느니라 라고 말하셨다. 우리는 빛의 자녀이다. 이것을 나타내기만 하면 되는것이다. 나를 통해서, 많은 사람들이 이 빛을 통해 살아나게 되는 놀라운 역사가 있을것이다. 내가 빛만 발하면 되는것이다. 사 62:6-7 말씀 보면, “..너희 여호와로 기억하시게 하는 자들아 너희는 쉬지 말며 7 또 여호와께서 예루살렘을 세워 세상에서 찬송을 받게 하시기까지 그로 쉬지 못하시게 하라.” 우리가 하나님의 은혜를 받았다면 Watchtower 로서 역할 감당해야 할것이다. 이 보좌의 능력을 놓고 계속 기도 하기를 바란다. 계속 기도 하게 되면 여러분 수호하는 천사가 계속적으로 하나님께 보고 하게 된다, 기도 하는것 마다 한마디도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하고 다 하나님께 드리고 주시는 응답을 받고 내려와야 한다. 오늘 말씀하고 있다, 하나님으로 쉬지 못하시게 하라. 무엇을 의미하나. 너희들이 기도하면 한마디도 빼지 않고 내가 다 이루어 주겠다 하시는 말씀이다. 어떠한 문제 속에 계시는가, 집중기도 하시기 바란다. 그들이 살아나게 될줄을 믿는다. 붙잡아야 할것은 요엘서 2:29-30 이다, “그 때에 내가 또 내 영을 남종과 여종에게 부어 줄 것이며 30 내가 이적을 하늘과 땅에 베풀리니 곧 피와 불과 연기 기둥이라.” 하나님의 약속이다. 내 남종과 여종, 바로 여러분을 말씀 하시는거다. 여러분들이 기도하고 성령 충만 받게 될때 이적과 기적을 땅에 베풀 것이니 곧 피와 불과 연기 기둥에 놀라는 역사가 일어난다 하시는 말씀이다. 이 피와 불과 연기 기둥 이라는것은 흑암이 무너지고 사단의 세력이 꺾이는것을 말하는것이다. 흑암의 권세를 심판하는것을 말한다. 여러분들이 증거 하고 기도하는 그것을 통해서 하늘과 땅에 모든 은혜가 베풀어지기 시작하는데 모든 흑암은 완전히 꺾여질것 이라는 말씀이다. 여러분들을 영적으로나 육적으로 괴롭히는 모든것 놓고 보좌의 능력을 누리며 기도 하시기를 바란다. 성경에서 약속하고 있다. 분명히 은혜를 베푸신다 라고 말한다. 응답받는 여러분들 되시기를 바란다.
결론
시 Psalm 23:6
말씀 맺겠다, 시편 23:6 반드시 잡으시기를 바란다, “내 평생에 선하심과 인자하심이 반드시 나를 따르리니 내가 여호와의 집에 영원히 살리로다.” 하나님께서 항상 여러분들을 보호 하시고 인도 하신다는 사실 붙잡으시기를 바란다. 평생에 선하심과 인자하심이 반드시 나를 따른다 라고 나와있다. 붙잡을 것은 반드시 내가 여호와의 집에 영원히 거하리로다 이 말씀이다. 예배에 승리 하게 되면 하나님께서 항상 부으시는 놀라운 능력을 폭포수 처럼 부으실줄 믿는다. 응답 받는 여러분 되시기를 예수 이름으로 축원한다.
God’s Glorious Presence (Hebrews 12:18-21)

Introduction
Abraham Lincoln during the civil war, he was in the midst of a difficult time and situation. There was a representative from a church who visited Abraham Lincoln during that time and this person gave encouraging words to him. The man told Abraham Lincoln, “We know and truly believe that God is on our side.” When Lincoln heard this, responded, “Yes, I sincerely believe which side God is on but I don’t care if God is on our side. What I care about is if we are on the Lord’s side.” These were such words of the gospel and a great confession of faith. When problems come to us, we pray to God asking us to solve our problems. Of course, we should pray this way but what is more important is that through that problem, we must find and seek God’s plan and will. When we pray this prayer, then we can see and find God’s plan, and God will be waiting to give you answers. This is the mystery of answers that we must hold onto. When God gives us problems, God gives us with the intent of giving us answers and there is God’s great plan behind them. What we must hold onto is that God wants to give us answers and blessings. When we hold onto this, then we will absolutely be victorious. Today’s sermon and Biblical passage is so important.
1. The Presence of God the Father
1) God’s presence on Mount Sinai
Verses 18-21 - When I read today’s Biblical passage, I was so shocked. I realized how important these passages were. God who created all things and who is the Creator manifested Himself onto Earth. Verse 18 - This is such an astounding event. We can see God’s true presence was shown here. God’s presence was described as burning with fire. When God manifests Himself, why is it described as burned with fire and darkness and tempest? This was because of the sin of mankind. What is absolute is that God does not tolerate the state and act of sin at all.
We read today in verse 20 - Wherever God’s presence was, even beasts and animals were trembling with fear, and they were stoned or shot with an arrow in the presence of God. This shows that even if we receive salvation from God, we still possess the uncleanness and sinful nature, so we have no choice but to die in front of God’s presence. Then, how did God appear amid fire and darkness? This was possible because God still loved us despite our sin and state of uncleanness. To meet and save us who were covered with sin and uncleanness, God covered His presence with clouds and the nature of the world. God came not as the God of judgment but God who came to save Israel.
2) God’s salvation for Israel
In Egypt, we know great destruction and God’s judgment came upon this land when they were amid the life of idolatry.
God said in Exodus 12:12, 13, 19:4 “For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. 19:4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.” - When God saved Israel, God made sure to completely destroy all of the idolatry and drew Israel out of Egypt. For the Israelites, all they knew was their life of idolatry, but God completely destroyed all of that to show that God is the True King and master over their lives.
Exodus 12:13 - All people had to face judgment before God but if they just posted the blood of the lamb of God on their doorpost, God promised that they would live. Everyone received judgment of God during the Passover but anyone who posted the blood of the lamb on their doorpost, they were all saved. God loved the Israelites so that is why God taught them this mystery. What does this mean? Anyone who believes in the blood of Jesus Christ, no matter what, they will be saved and will live.
Exodus 19:4 - When God saved His people, He did not just save them, but He saved them like they were His own children like when an eagle places their chicks on their wings. When God holds onto us, then no one can take you away. God is showing that He will completely save and hold onto you. You must hold onto the fact that if God takes hold of you, then no one can take you away from His salvation. God did not just save the Israelites but bestowed great blessings upon them. With what method did God bless them? He blessed them through worship.
2. First Worship on Earth
1) Establishment of worship policies
God bestowed the blessing of their first worship upon the Israelites and accepted their first worship.
Exodus 20:18-19, 21, 19:10-11, 9 “Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. 19 Then they said to Moses, 'You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.' 21 So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was. 19:10-11 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. 11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 9 And the Lord said to Moses, 'Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.' So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.” - God was amid their presence and it said that God’s presence was described as sounds of thunder. These sounds of trumpets were the sounds of angels of God praising God.
The people of God who saw this, were trembling in fear before the presence of God and said in Exodus 20:19. Great sounds of thunder were coming from the sky so they were all trembling with fear and were pleading to Moses to not let God speak to them directly because of their great fear of God’s presence. In other words, they were asking for a mediator between God and man.
At that time in Exodus 20:21 - We can see what happened when Moses stood before God. Moses stood before God amid thundering and lighting flashes; imagine how fearful Moses must have been. We must hold onto something here.
Exodus 19:10-11 - This is an important message. When we stand before God, what kind of attitude and posture should we have? God is telling us in this Biblical passage. Before worship, clean your body and clothes, and consecrate today and tomorrow. God who is righteous, this is the attitude and posture we must have before Him and during the time of worship.
Exodus 19:11 - Even at this time, through the Holy Spirit, God is working and is within our presence. Whenever I give worship, I always worship while looking towards God’s heavenly throne.
Exodus 19:9 - Moses who stood as a mediator between God and the people of God, God said that He raised Moses up to help the people of God as the mediator. It was not Moses’ words, but it was God’s words, and this was what God was showing. This is how God relays His words. Even now, I am relaying you the words of God. Whenever I pray and receive God’s words, I truly pray that I can relay the words that God wants me to relay to you and to relay the words that our congregation needs to hear and need. I don’t know every one of your problems, but I pray sincerely that I can give the answers that the congregation really needs from the Sunday pulpit message. There are times where God wakes me up from my sleep and gives me His words. When we look at today’s Biblical passage, we can see three important covenants that God gives to the Israelites in the first worship service. We must hold onto this.
2) God bestows the eternal covenant
The first covenant given to the Israelites was written in Exodus 19:6, 20:2-3 “And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. 20:2-3 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 You shall have no other gods before Me.” - God raised up the Israelites to save the world. The reason why God saved Israelites was so that they can save others and the world. Why did God save you? God saved you so that you can save people around you. You must hold onto this.
The second covenant was Exodus 20:2-3 - The 10 commandments.
Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” - This was the first commandment of the 10 commandments. We must hold onto this. Last week, we spoke about how God wants us to have peace with God and peace with people.
Third covenant is written in Leviticus 11:45 “For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.” - God saved and made us into His children, and because God is righteous and Holy, we are also righteous and Holy. We must have peace with God and peace with others and live a holy life. If we don’t seek after holiness, we can’t see the Lord. If we seek after answers, then we will receive answers. This is so simple. It is so easy to receive answers from God. All we have to do is love God and love our neighbors. God is telling us to live a holy life since He is holy, that is all we have to do. But the Israelites failed to do this. Many church members fail to live this life. They live a life where they cannot receive answers. What is the reason for this? You take the word of God with legalism. God gives us the word of God but we take it as legalism so of course, our lives and walk of faith become hard and difficult. We must hold onto the method of holding onto the true gospel. Holding onto the gospel is enjoying the blessing of the heavenly throne of God. We are children of God and if that is the case, then we must know that the authority and status as children of God have already been given to us. All we have to do is enjoy these blessings. Then, everything will happen so easily for us.
3. Heavenly Blessings
1) Heavenly power
Revelation 8:4-5 “And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.” - How can we enjoy the blessing of the heavenly throne? All of our situations, circumstances, and problems, the angels of God take all of that to God. Do you have problems? Do you pray? Everything that you think and pray about, the angels of God deliver them to God. It is written, during the time of prayer, the angels of God filled it with fire from the altar and threw it to the earth. This is showing that all darkness is being broken down when we pray. This is realistically taking place. Do you pray about your problems? Realistic works are taking place in heaven when you pray and think about your problems and situations before God. Right now, the spiritual forces and the work of the triune God is working even if we may not physically see it. God is preparing the spiritual forces and unprecedented answers for us. God is fulfilling His plan for us right now. Do you believe in this? If we just hold onto this and pray for five minutes, then answers will come to us absolutely. If we believe that the spiritual forces and angels are working and hold onto this mystery, then answers will come to us. We must believe that the power of triune God is within us and working upon our lives. If we just think about this and realize this fact, then we gain faith and believe. And no matter what happens, we will be able to enjoy 24 hours. When we have this kind of faith, then the great works of Exodus will take place in our lives. The moment we believe, God will work. We must not just think about this but we must believe in this. When we enjoy this, then God will grant us the blessing of heavenly talent.
2) Heavenly talent
God has given everyone a heavenly talent. The problem is that we don’t know what that is. How can we find that? When we enjoy God’s heavenly throne, then God will help us discover our heavenly talent.
Matthew 9:9 “As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, 'Follow Me.' So he arose and followed Him.” - Matthew, who was a tax collector, Jesus called him. Why did Jesus call Matthew? Jesus was telling Matthew that his heavenly talent wasn’t being a tax collector. Jesus called him to show him his heavenly talent. The moment Matthew followed and met Jesus; he found his heavenly talent. Matthew wrote the great events in the book of Matthew. Through the book of Matthew, it was able to connect the great books of the Old Testament and New Testament. May you find your heavenly talent. I truly believe that you possess a heavenly talent. May you find that and give great glory to God.
3) Heavenly mission
Isaiah 60:1 “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” - We are already children of God. The light of the Holy Spirit who is inside of us is shining in us. The glory of God is shining through us. We are children of light. All we have to do is shine this light. Then, the great works of saving others with this light will take place. Then, all we have to do is shine this light.
Isaiah 62:6-7 “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, 7 And give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” - If we have received God’s great grace, then we can stand at the watchtower. We must always pray for God’s heavenly mission. Then, the armies of angles will constantly be at work and will constantly go back and forth from heaven to earth. The angels of God will make sure that none of your prayers will be dropped or forgotten but constantly take it up to heaven.
It says in Isaiah 62:7 to not give God any rest. This is God’s promise that God will answer every one of your prayers. Do you have problems? Then, pray in concentration. Then you will live.
Hold onto Joel 2:29-30 “And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. 30 'And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.” - This was God’s promise to us. Menservants and maidservants are referring to us. God promised that He will pour His Spirit out to us and the great wonders and powers of heaven will be shown to us. The great pillar of blood, fire, and smoke is referring to the power of darkness and God’s judgment. When we pray, the great grace of God’s throne will be upon us and all darkness will be broken down. Spiritual and mental problems that give you struggles and bring suffering into your life will be broken down, may you enjoy the heavenly throne and pray. The Bible promised that God will give you His great grace. May you receive great grace.
Conclusion
Psalm 23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” - God is always protecting and guiding you. Hold onto this fact. It is written here that all days of your life, God’s goodness and mercy will follow you. You must dwell in the house of the Lord forever. When we enter into worship every single day and have victory in worship every single day, then God will pour His great blessings upon you.
