“그러나 너희가 이른 곳은 시온 산과 살아 계신 하나님의 도성인 하늘의 예루살렘과 천만 천사와 하늘에 기록된 장자들의 모임과 교회와 만민의 심판자이신 하나님과 및 온전하게 된 의인의 영들과 새 언약의 중보자이신 예수와 및 아벨의 피보다 더 나은 것을 말하는 뿌린 피니라 너희는 삼가 말씀하신 이를 거역하지 말라 땅에서 경고하신 이를 거역한 그들이 피하지 못하였거든 하물며 하늘로부터 경고하신 이를 배반하는 우리일까보냐”

서론
빅토르 프랭클 (Viktor Frankl) 라는 사람이 있었다. 그 사람은 독일 나치 수용소에 끌려가 수년동안 고통을 당했던 유대인중 한 사람이다. 그곳에서 나와 자기 경험을 다룬 죽음의 수용소 라는 책을 냈다. 거기에 나온 중요한 내용 한가지가 있다. 1944년 말 성탄절 전후와 1945년 신년 2주 사이에 함께 수용되어 있던 유대인들이 가장 많이 죽었다고 한다. 그런데 그 죽음은 질병에 의한것이 아니었다. 또 악명높은 가스실로 인해 죽은것도 아니었다. 그렇다면 왜 그 많은 사람들이 죽게 되었나. 작가는 그들이 가진 미래에 대한 꿈 때문에 죽었다고 말한다. 그렇다면 그들이 가진 꿈이 무엇이었나 이 말이다. 당시 크리스마스가 가깝게 다가오고 있었다. 그들은 크리스마스 쯤 되면 우리가 석방이 되겠지 생각했다. 그렇게 집으로 돌아가면 크리스마스 트리를 만들고 온 가족이 행복하게 지낼수 있겠지 꿈을 꾸며 기대에 가득찼다. 그런 막연한 기대를 가지고 힘든 시간을 견뎠던것이다. 그런데 성탄절이 지났음에도 불구하고 전혀 석방될 기미는 보이지 않고 오히려 전쟁 상황은 더 심각해 진거다. 그렇게 되자 그들은 절망을 하게 된것이다. 그들이 가진 꿈이 좌절 된것이다. 소망이 사라지게 되었다. 아, 이렇게 죽는 모양이구나 생각했다. 그렇게 그들은 속수무책으로 죽어 나갔다고 한다. 저는 이 글을 보고 생각했다. 만일 그 사람들이 그 꿈을 이 땅에서의 행복 이나 석방에 대한 희망이 아닌 하늘에 대한 소망으로 가졌다면 어땠을까 생각 해봤다. 그들의 유일한 소망은 석방 되는것 이었다. 그것이 이루어지지 않으니 죽은것이다. 모든 삶의 의욕이 사라지게 되는 것이다. 여러분, 제가 신문을 볼때 사업을 하다 망해 자살한 사람들의 이야기를 가끔 읽는다. 성공 하지 못해 삶을 포기했다 이런 내용이다. 그들 또한 소망을 하늘에 두었다면 아마 이야기가 달라졌을것이다. 여러분, 오늘 우리에게 주신 말씀은 대단히 중요한 말씀이다. 이 말씀은 여러분들이 평생 잊지 않고 꼭 붙잡아 언약으로 누리시게 되기를 바란다.
1. 하늘 예루살렘에 계신 하나님 God in Heavenly Jerusalem
1) 성삼위 하나님의 사역 The ministry of the Triune God

오늘 22절 말씀 보게 되면 “그러나 너희가 이른 곳은 시온 산과 살아 계신 하나님의 도성인 하늘의 예루살렘과 천만 천사와" 라고 말씀하고 있다. 지난 시간에는 시내산에서 백성에게 임하시는 하나님에 대해 배웠다. 그런데 오늘 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 말씀은, 너희가 이른 곳은 시온산 이다 라고 나와있다. 여기서 “이른 곳” 이라는 말의 시제가 무엇인가 보니 완료형 동사를 사용하고있다. 그러니까, “너희가 이른 곳” 이라 함은 지금 현재 이른 곳 을 나타내는 말이다. 그 “이른 곳” 이 어디인가 말씀 보니, 살아계신 하나님의 도성인 하늘의 예루살렘 에 이르렀다 말씀 하고 있다. 이 땅이 아닌 하늘에 있는 예루살렘, 다시 말씀드리면 성삼위 하나님의 보좌가 계신 그곳에 우리가 이미 이르렀다 말씀 하고 있는것 이다. 우리는 지금 여기 있는데 어떻게 하나님의 보좌에 이르렀다는 말인가 물을수 있다. 엡 2:6 말씀 보게 되면, “또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 하늘에 앉히시니” 라고 나와있다. 우리가 구원 받는 그 순간에 예수 안에서 함께 하나님 보좌에 앉았다 라고 이야기 하고 있는것이다. 이것 꼭 잡으시기를 바란다. 지금 우리의 영적 위치는 어디냐, 곧 하나님의 보좌 라는 말이다. 빌립보서 3:20 말씀 보면 우리의 시민권은 하늘에 있다 라고 되어있다. 지금 우리의 소속은 하늘이고 우리는 하늘의 시민이다 라고 말하는것이다. 그 하늘에는 성삼위 하나님이 계신다. 그 성삼위 하나님께서 지금도 우리를 위해 구원 사역을 이루시고 계심을 붙잡으시기를 바란다. 분명한것은 지금도 성부 하나님 께서 우리에게 말씀을 계속 주시고 계시다는 사실이다. 예수님 께서는 지금도 우리를 위해 구원 사역을 이루고 계신다. 성령 께서도 지금 능력으로 역사 하시며 우리를 인도 하신다. 이 언약 꼭 붙잡기를 바란다. 그 성삼위 하나님 께서 지금도 우리를 지키시고 노심초사 보호하고 계신다는 사실을 붙잡으셔야 한다.

22절 마지막 말씀에 중요한 말씀이 나온다. “천만 천사가 함께 한다” 라는 부분이다. 보좌의 모습이 나타나고 있지 않는가. 천만 천사 라는 것은 숫자 천만의 천사를 말하는것이다 아니다. 이것은 수많은 천사들이 함께 한다는 것을 표현 하는 말이다. 작년 2021년에 나온 통계중 전세계에 등록된 기독교인 인원수가 총 24억 이라는 통계를 봤다. 그렇다면 여러분, 천사의 숫자가 24억보다 더 된다고 생각 해야한다. 마태복음 18:10 말씀 붙잡아야 한다. “삼가 이 소자중에 하나도 업신 여기지 말라 너희에게 말하노니 저희 천사들이 하늘에서 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 얼굴을 항상 뵈옵느니라." 아무리 연약한자라 하더라도 그들과 함께하는 천사가 그들의 사정을 계속 하나님께 보고 하고 있다라는 말이다. 이것이 얼마나 힘이 되고 위로가 되는 말씀인지 모른다. 나의 모든 사정을 하나님께 낱낱이 매일 순간 순간 마다 보고 하고있다는 말이다. 우리가 가끔 가다가 실수를 한다 그것 까지도 다 알고 계신다. 창세기 28:12 말씀 보게 되면 에서를 피해 야곱이 도망다니다 너무 지쳐 벧엘에 머물게 되는데 거기서 꿈을 꾸게 된다. 그 말씀 보게 되면, “꿈에 본즉 사닥다리가 땅 위에 서 있는데 그 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿았고 또 본즉 하나님의 사자들이 그 위에서 오르락내리락 하고” 라고 나와있다. 이것은 무엇을 이야기 하나. 야곱이 도망가면서 40 마일 정도 되는 거리를 뛰는데 그냥 뛰는것이 아니라 하나님 살려주세요 형이 저를 죽이려 합니다 간절히 기도하며 뛰었을것이다. 그냥 뛰는게 아니라 정말 살려주세요 하나님 하며 정신없이 죽을힘을 다해 뛰었을것이다. 그 뛰며 기도하는 모든것을 함께하는 천사들이 계속 하나님께 보고 하는것이다. 계속 오르락 내리락 했다는 말은 기도를 그만큼 많이 했다는 말이다. 여러분, 바로 지금 보좌의 축복이 여러분들에게 이렇게 일어나고 있다는 사실 아셔야한다. 여러분들이 기도 하는것은 계속적으로 한마디도 빠짐 없이 하나님께 상달 되고 있다는 말이다. 또 성경을 자세히 보면 히1:14 에 구원받을 상속자들을 위해 섬기라고 보내신 자들이 있다 라고 나와있다. 우리가 어려움 당할때 우리를 지키는 천군천사가 있다는 말이다. 열왕기하 19:35 말씀 보면, 히스기야가 앗수르 군대를 향해 하나님 앞에 기도하는 모습이 나온다. 그때에 여호와의 사자 한명이 나와서 앗수르 진영에서 군사 십팔만 오천 명을 친지라 아침에 일어나 보니 다 송장이 되었다 라고 나와있다. 그 기도를 통해 천사가 시공간을 초월하는 놀라운 능력으로 역사해 버리니 18만 5천 이라는 숫자의 군인들이 한순간에 죽은것이다. 그 능력의 천사가 바로 지금 여러분과 함께 함을 믿는다. 그 뿐만 아니다, 23절 말씀 보게 되면 하늘에 기록된 장자들의 모임이 있다고 나온다. 하늘에 기록된 장자라 함은 전 세계에 생명책에 기록된 하나님의 자녀들이 있다는 사실을 알수 있다. 그 기록된, 구원받은 사람들이 모여 예배를 드리는 모습을 말한다. 우리가 지금 예배 드리는 이 모습을 말한다. 이럴때 어떤 일이 일어나나 이 말이다. 계시록 7:11-12 말씀 보게 되면, “모든 천사가 보좌와 장로들과 네 생물의 주위에 서 있다가 보좌 앞에 엎드려 얼굴을대고 하나님께 경배하여 이르되 아멘 찬송과 영광과 지혜와 감사와 존귀와 권능의 힘이 우리 하나님께 세세토록 있을지어다 아멘 하더라.” 수 많은 천사들이 있다가 우리가 예배드릴때 하나님 보좌 앞에 우리의 모든 기도를 가지고 올라가 그 앞에 엎드리면서 우리가 드리는 예배를 통해 찬송과 영광과 존귀함 받으소서 영광을 돌리는것이다. 여러분들이 드리는 예배가 얼마나 천사들이 기뻐하며 하나님께 영광 돌리게 하는것인지 모른다. 하나님을 향해서만 드리는 이 예배를 이 천사들이 가져가서 온전히 하나님께 영광돌리는 일이 일어나는것이다. 우리가 진정 빛의 자녀라 한다면 이 사실을 만방에 선포 해야 할것이다.
2. 만민의 심판자이신 하나님 God, the Judge of all humanity
1) 하나님의 형상 회복 The restoration of God's image

그런데 여기서 또 “교회 와” 라고 이야기 하고 있다. 여러분, 교회와 만민의 심판자 이신 하나님 이라는 부분을 보시라. 예배 드리는 교회의 축복을 분명히 잡아야 한다. 교회가 무엇인가 이 말이다. 마태복음 16:16 에 “주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들 이시니이다” 라고 고백하는 자 통해서 교회를 세우시겠다고 말씀 하셨다. 다시 말씀 드리면, 주는, 예수님은 그리스도 이십니다 하고 고백 하는 자에게 놀라운 생명의 역사가 나타난다 라는것을 이야기 한다. 그리스도 께서는 사단의 세력을 완전히 꺾고 죄의 권세, 하나님 떠나 고통받는 저주의 권세 완전히 꺾으신 분이다. 그런 고백을 하는 자에게 하나님 께서는 이 반석위에 교회를 세우겠다 말씀 하신것이다. 여러분, 이 축복은 너무나도 중요한것 이다. 마가복음 16:16에 보면, “믿고 세례를 받는 사람은 구원을 얻을것이요 믿지 않는 사람은 정죄를 받으리라" 라고 말씀하고 있다. 하나님의 심판 기준은 내가 믿느냐 안 믿느냐 여기에 모든것 달려 있다는 말이다. 천국 가는 기준이 딱 한가지, 내가 믿느냐 안 믿느냐 여기서 결정 나는것이다. 무엇을 믿느냐, 바로 예수님이 나의 그리스도 되심을 믿는것이다. 십자가 통해 완전히 그리스도 되심을 나타내시고 성취 하신것을 믿는것이다. 이렇게 되면 어떤 현상이 생기나. 로마서 3:24 말씀이다, “그리스도 예수 안에 있는 속량으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 값 없이 의롭다 하심을 얻는 자 되었느니라".
2) 생령의 축복 The blessing of the Living Spirit

예수님이 그리스도 되십니다 이 믿음 하나 때문에 모든 죄를 용서하시고 의인이 된다 이 말이다. 십자가를 통해 잃어버렸던 하나님의 형상이 회복되는 순간이다. 이를 통해 생령의 축복을 받는것이다. 만민의 심판자 되시는 하나님과 및 온전하게 된 의인의 영들 이라는 말씀이 나온다. 여기서 온전하게 되는 영들 이라는 말은 그리스도를 믿는 사람들이 죽으면 그 영들이 하나님 보좌 앞으로 가게 된다, 그 영을 말하는것 이다. 보좌에 있든, 이미 가있든, 지금 살아 있던간에 그것이 온전하게 되기 위해서는 그리스도의 십자가가 필요한거다. 요한복음 19:30 에 예수님이 십자가에서 돌아가실때 다 이루었다 하셨다. 모든 문제 해결하고 끝났다 라는 뜻이다. 이 때로부터 온전함이 이루어지게 되는거다. 구약시대 사람들은 십자가의 온전함을 보지 못했기 때문에 온전함에 이르지 못했다. 그들은 온전치 못한 영으로 하늘에 있었다는 말이다. 그러나 그들도 예수님께서 다 이루었다 하시는 순간에 의인으로 바뀌게 된것이다. 이것이 왜 중요한가, 로마서 8:11 때문에 중요한다, “예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 이의 영이 너희 안에 거하시면 그리스도 예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 이가 너희 안에 거하시는 그의 영으로 말미암아 너희 죽을 몸도 살리시리라". 예수님이 부활시킨 그 영, 그 영을 소유하고 있으면 그 영으로 말미암아 우리 죽은 몸도 부활 하게 되는것이다. 구약에 있던 모든 사람들도 그리스도의 영을 통해 같이 구원받게 된것이다. 그래서 예수님께서 부활 하셔서 말씀하셨다. 요한복음 20:22, “이 말씀을 하시고 그들을 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 이르시되 성령을 받으라" 이 말씀 너무 중요하다. 우리는 그리스도의 영을 받아아만 주님과 하나가 될수 있는것이다. 그래야 그가 부활 하신것 처럼
우리도 할수 있는것이다. 승리하시는 여러분 되기를 바란다.
3) 새 에덴의 축복 The blessing of New Eden
히 Hebrews 11:39
계 Revelation 22:5
이렇게 될때, 그리스도 영 받을때 새 에덴의 축복 받을수 있는것이다. 오늘 말씀 보게되면, 24절에 새언약의 중보자 이신 예수 라고 되어있다. 히 7:22 에 “이와같이 예수는 더 좋은 언약의 보증이 되었느니라” 라고 나와있다. 여기서 더 좋은 언약이라 함은 새 언약을 말하는것이다. 예수님이 새 언약의 보증이 되었다는 말이다. 히브리서 11:39에 보면, “이 사람들은 다 믿음으로 말미암아 증거를 받았으나 약속된 것을 받지 못하였으니" 이라고 말씀하고 있다. 이 사람들은 누구를 말하냐면, 구약시대에, 히 11장에 나타났던 모든 믿음의 영웅들을 이야기 하는것이다. 모세가 얼마나 많은 증거를 받았나, 그런데 이런 증거는 받지 못했다는 것이다. 지난 시간에 봤지만 시내산에 하나님이 임할때 백성들이 벌벌 떨고 모세도 떨었다고 나왔다. 에수님께서 십자가에서 중보 사역을 하신것이다. 그 덕분에 우리는 시내 산에서 하나님을 기쁨으로 만날수 있는것이다. 하나님의 영을 받은 자는 무서워 벌벌 떨 필요가 없고 기쁨으로 하나님을 맞이하여 찬양 돌리며 영광 돌리면 된다. 그렇다면 우리가 어떻게 살아야 하나. 계시록 22:5 이다. “다시 밤이 없겠고 등불과 햇빛이 쓸데 없으니 이는 주 하나님이 그들에게 비치심이라 그들이 세세토록 왕노릇 하리로다”. 예수님 덕분에 우리는 새 에덴인 천국에서 영원히 왕 노릇하며 사는 축복 속으로 들어가야한다는것이다. 이 언약을 잡아야한다.
3. 전무후무한 역사 The unprecedented work
1) 나의 역사 God's work in my life
창 Genesis 4:10, 눅 Luke 23:34
여기서 우리가 확실히 잡을것은 전무후무한 역사이다. 24절 말씀 보게 되면 아벨에 피 보다 더 나은것을 말하는뿌린 피 라고 나와있다. 아벨의 피 보다 예수님의 피는 더 놀라운 능력을 가지고 있다. 창세기 4:10 에 아벨이 죽음을 당할때 하나님께서 가인에게 말씀 하셨다, “이르시되 네가 무엇을 하였느냐 네 아우의 핏소리가 땅에서부터 내게 호소하느니라". 아벨의 피가 죄없이 죽음을 당한 억울함을 호소하는 핏소리가 들려온다는 말이다. 똑같이 죄 없이 죽은 예수님의 피는 어떻겠나. 눅 23:34 에 이야기 하고 있다. “이에 예수께서 이르시되 아버지 저들을 사하여 주옵소서 자기들이 하는 것을 알지 못함이니이다". 예수님의 피는 용서와 화해의 피 이다. 자기 원수를 향해 저들의 죄를 용서해 주옵소서 하셨다. 저와 여러분들이 구원 받게 된것도 용서와 화해의 피 덕분에 가능했다. 우리 인생에 전무후무한 최고의 기적은 바로 구원 받았다는 사실이다.
2) 교회의 역사 God's work at church
고전 1 Corinthians 12:27
고린도전서 12:27 에 중요한 말씀 나온다, “너희는 그리스도의 몸이요 지체의 각 부분이라". 너희 라는 것은 우리 교회를 말한다. 우리 교회가 그리스도와 한몸 이라고 하신다. 지금 우리가 초라하고 너무 연약하게 보인다. 주님께서 말씀 하신다, 너희는 그리스도의 몸 이자 지체의 한 부분이다 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 이것이 최고의 기적이라고 생각한다. 어떻게 감히 내가 예수님과 한몸 되는 은혜를 받았나.
3) 현장의 역사 God's work in the field
요 John 17:22
요한복음 17:22 에 더 중요한것이 나온다, “내게 주신 영광을 내가 그들에게 주었사오니 이는 우리가 하나가 된것 같이 그들도 하나가 되게 하려 함이니이다". 예수님 께서 성부 하나님께 드렸던 기도 내용이다. 예수님 께서 아버지, 아버지여 나와 하나 아니십니까, 삼위일체 이니 하나가 맞지 않나. 그런데 그 예수님께서 하신 말씀이, “우리가 하나됨과 같이 그들도 하나가 되게 하소서”. 기절초풍할 내용이다. 만왕의 왕 되신 그리스도께서 하신 말씀이, 저들도 우리처럼 왕이 되게 하옵소서 하는 기도이다. 우리 뿐만 아니라 전세계 모든 교회가 이 축복 받게 되는것이다. 예수님과 같은 신분을 갖는것이다. 언제? 그리스도와 함께 있을때 가능하다. 그 안에 있을때, 그리스도와 함께 왕노릇 하는것이다. 이것을 세계에 선포하고 믿고 누려야겠다. 영적인 눈 뜨고 이 사실 누려야 한다. 누리게 될때 이 놀라운 능력의 역사가 실질적으로 여러분 삶에 일어날줄 믿는다. “네 믿음대로 될지어다” 라고 하셨다.
결론 Conclusion
히 Hebrews 12:25
말씀 맺겠다. 25절 말씀이다, *너희는 삼가 말씀하신 이를 거역하지 말라 땅에서 경고하신 이를 거역한 그들이 피하지 못하였거늘 하물며 하늘로부터 경고하신 이를 배반하는 우리일까보냐” 라고 말씀 하셨다. 지금 제가 여러분들께 드리는 이 말씀이 얼마나 귀한 말씀인가. 그런데 이것을 무시해 버리면 어떻게 되겠나, 그래서 하나님께서 경고 하시는것이다. 얼마나 중요한 말씀인지, 그래서 꼭 잡으라고 하시는것이다. 이것을 여러분은 축복으로 누리시기를 바란다. 율법처럼 막 지키는것이 아닌 누리는 것이다. 그래서 이 언약 잡고 70 제자가 되는 축복 누리셔야겠다. 내가 노력해서 되는것이 아닌 내가 언약잡고 기도하면 이렇게 되어지는것 이다. 하나님께서 그렇게 하시니까. 그렇게 되면 70 지역 살리시는 축복속에 여러분들이 들어가게 될줄을 믿는다. 우리 렘넌트들, 여러분 통해서 70 나라가 사는 놀라운 역사가 일어나게 될줄을 믿는다. 이 언약 잡고 승리하시고 응답받는 여러분 되시기를 예수님 이름으로 축원한다.
God on the Throne of Mount Zion (Hebrews 12:22-25)

“22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. 25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven.”
Introduction
There was a man named Viktor Frankl and this man was a Jew who suffered many years in the Nazi concentration camps. After he was released from the concentration camps, he wrote a book called, “Man's Search for Meaning.” In this book, he wrote something interesting. He wrote that between the two years before Christmas, in 1944 and 1945, that was when the most amount of Jews were killed. They didn’t die from disease nor from the gas chambers but how did they all pass away? They died for their dreams. What were their dreams? They died for the dreams of their future. Christmas was approaching for them and they thought if Christmas came, then they would all be released and freed. Then, when they returned back home, they could make their Christmas trees and live a happy life with their families. With this empty hope, they were eagerly waiting for Christmas to come. But after Christmas approached and came, no hope of freedom came for them. Rather, things started getting worse for the Jews. When this happened, many of the Jews started dying and fell into despair. With their hopes lost, they fell into more despair and their hope was disappearing. They knew that they were going to die just like this. That is why many of them withered away and died because they lost the hope to live. When I read this, if these people had hope not regarding the things of the world but rather possessed the hope for heaven, then what difference would have been made for them? The only hope that they held onto was the hope of freedom and being released. Because this didn’t happen, they ended up perishing and dying in despair. All of their hope to live completely disappeared in front of them. When I read the newspaper, I have read many times of people committing suicide after their businesses failed or after they failed to gain success in their personal lives. But if people had hope in the things of heaven above, then their lives would be completely different. Today’s sermon is a very important message. This is the message that you must hold onto for the rest of your lives and enjoy it.
1. God in Heavenly Jerusalem
1) The ministry of the Triune God
Verse 22 - God’s presence came upon Mount Sinai onto the people of God and Moses as we spoke last week but today’s message speaks about Mount Zion. In this Bible verse, it says, “But you have come…”, this is a past verb. The place that “you have come” to is referring to you have come to now. Where is that place? It was referring to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. In other words, this place was referring not to a place on Earth but in Heaven; where the throne of God resides.
We may question how we could reside in God’s throne when we are living in this Earth but if you look in Ephesians 2:6 “And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” - The moment you accept Christ, you are able to sit on the heavenly throne along with Christ. You need to hold onto this. Your spiritual place is in the heavenly throne of God.
Philippians 3:20 “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” - Our home is in heaven and our citizenship belongs in heaven. Who is in haven? The Triune God is in heaven. This triune God is with us and fulfilling the work of salvation. What is absolute is that the Triune God continues to give us the word of God. We must hold onto this. Until now, Jesus Christ is continuing to fulfill the work of salvation. Until now, the Holy Spirit continues to work to guide us. This is the covenant that we must understand and hold onto. We must hold onto the fact that the Triune God continues to guide and is within us.
Verse 22 “…Innumerable company of angels…” - The blessing of God’s throne. The innumerable company of angels is speaking about the endless amount of angels. There was statistical data that was collected that showed, the total number of registered Christians in the world was 2.4 billion. However, the number of angels far exceeds that.
2) The blessing of the Throne
Hold onto Matthew 18:10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.” - No matter how weak and powerless you are, the angels of God continue to guide and protect you. This is such an encouraging word of God. The angles are always reporting all of our situations and events to God. If we make a mistake, then God knows all of that.
Genesis 28:12 “Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” - Jacob was running away from Esau, and Jacob sat down under a tree and had a dream. This dream is referring to when Jacob was running away from Esau, he probably ran for 40 miles but as he was running, he was probably pleading and praying to God to save him. He didn’t just run but he was pleading to God as he was running for God to save him. While he was running, the angels were with Jacob and the angels kept going back and forth from Jacob to God. There was a constant movement of angels back and forth from Jacob to God taking Jacob’s prayers to God. This same thing is happening to us. This is the blessing of God’s throne that we have in our lives. All of our prayers, they are all being delivered to God by the angels; no prayer is left behind.
If we look carefully in the Bible in Hebrews 1:14 “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” - If we have a problem, then the angels are already set beside us to protect us.
2 Kings 19:35 “And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.” - King Hezekiah was praying to God desperately as the Assyrian army came to attack him and his nation. Through King Hezekiah’s prayer, one angel of God killed all of the 185,000 Assyrian army. These powerful angels are within us and guiding and protecting us.
Not only that but in verse 23 - “…Who are registered in heaven…” is referring to the children of God.
Verse 23, “…To the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven…” are referring to those who are gathered, saved, and are worshiping God. This is the church. What happens when people assemble, gather together, and worship God?
Revelation 7:11-12 “All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: 'Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.' ” - All of these angels came together and gathered before the people of God as they worshiped and gave glory to God. The worship that you give to God, the angels are also giving glory and praise to God. Worship that was created by God, the angels are also partaking in the worship service as well. If we are children of the light, then we must proclaim this.
Verse 23 - We must hold onto the blessing of worship. What is a church?
2. God, the Judge of All Humanity
1) The restoration of God's image
Matthew 16:16 “Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' ” - Anyone who believes and confesses that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God. Anyone who confesses of the name of Christ, tremendous power of life will come upon them. Jesus Chirst was the one who completely destroyed the power of Satan, the power of hell, and curses of sin. Those who confess of this Christ, then God said that He will build His church on the rock. These blessings are so important.
Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” - What is God’s standard of judgment? Everything is determined by whether you believe or not. There is only one standard of whether you will go to heaven or not. The standard is whether you believe or not. What do you believe in? You believe that Jesus is the Christ. Jesus who fulfilled His work on the cross as the Christ, this is what we are believing in this. What happens when we believe in this?
Romans 3:24 “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” - With the one confession of faith that Jesus is the Christ, then we can be completely freed, become righteous, and be forgiven of all our sins. Everything is completely restored through the work of Christ on the cross. Our image of God is restored through the work of the cross.
2) The blessing of the Living Spirit
Verse 23 - “…To God the Judge of all, the spirits of just men made perfect.” The spirit of righteousness is referring to the spirits of the saved children of God. In order for the spirits to become righteous, they needed the work of the cross of Jesus Christ.
John 19:30 “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished!' And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” - This is what Jesus confessed when He died on the cross. All of our problems were completely solved. Everything was finished. From this point on, our state of eternity was completed. Before this, in the Old Testament, there was nothing that was completed. There was a place where they stood before the throne of God when it was not complete. The moment you believe in Jesus Christ, you become righteous. Why is this important?
Romans 8:11“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” - The Spirit of God and the resurrected Christ resides in us, therefore, our dead physical bodies will also be resurrected through the Spirit of Jesus that resides in us. All of the Christians in the Old Testament also obtained salvation through the Spirit of Jesus.
That is why when Jesus Christ resurrected, He said in John 20:22 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.’ ” - This message is so important. We must receive the spirit of Jesus. When we receive Jesus’s Spirit, then we can become one with God and we can resurrect just like Jesus. Truly be victorious. When we receive the spirit of Jesus, then enjoy the blessing of the New Eden.
3) The blessing of New Eden
Verse 24 - A better covenant is referring to the new covenant. Jesus Christ became the new covenant.
Hebrews 11:39 “And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise.” - This is speaking regarding the people of God in the Old Testament. Moses received a lot of evidence and answers but he did not receive any testimonies. When God’s presence was upon Mount Sinai, Moses and the people of God were trembling in fear. Moses became the mediator between God and the people of God. Jesus Christ became our mediator. Because of this, we can joyfully meet God and we don’t have to tremble before God’s presence anymore. Then, how can we live and how are we supposed to live?
Revelation 22:5 “There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.” - Because of Jesus, we have obtained the New Eden and in heaven, we can enjoy our blessings. This is the covenant we must hold onto.
3. The Unprecedented Work
1) God's work in my life
Verse 24 “…And to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” - Jesus’s blood contain more power than the blood of Abel.
Genesis 4:10 “And He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.' ” - Abel was murdered by Cain. God speaks to Cain in this Biblical passage. The blood of Abel was crying out in agony and bitterness of Abel after he was murdered. Jesus Christ was killed and murdered as well but what did Jesus say?
We can see what Jesus said in Luke 23:34 “Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.' And they divided up His clothes by casting lots.” - The blood of Jesus is full of forgiveness and pureness. Jesus was pleading to God to forgive the people who murdered Him. The reason why we were saved was because of the blood of Jesus that was full of forgiveness and pureness. What is the greatest miracle of all miracles? It is a miracle that we were saved and have obtained salvation.
2) God's work at church
This is an important message in 1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” - “You are” is referring to the church. Our church is one body with God. Our church may seem weak and powerless but God says in 1 Corinthians 12:27 that we are one body with Christ. I think this is the greatest miracle. The fact that we are part of God’s body, this is the greatest blessing. What have we done to deserve this?
3) God's work in the field
What is more astounding is written in John 17:22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.” - This was the prayer that Jesus Christ gave to God. Jesus was praying that we are one body with God but Jesus continued to pray, “Just as we are one, may the people of God become one just like us.” This is such an astounding prayer by Jesus. The powerful and almighty Jesus was praying this prayer, asking God to allow us to become one with God. Not only that but all of the churches of this world have received this blessing. We have the same identity with Jesus. How is this possible? Only when we are in Christ, when we are one body with Christ. This is why we must proclaim only Christ. You already possess this blessing. All we have to do is open our spiritual eyes and enjoy this. When we enjoy this, then the great work of Christ will come upon your life. Let it be done according to your faith.
Conclusion
Hebrews 12:25 - This is a very precious message. What happens if we ignore this message? That is why God is warning us. God is telling us how important this message is and that we must hold onto it. With this message, we must hear it as our blessing. We are not talking about you protecting this but you must enjoy it. As you hold onto this covenant, may you enter as part of the 70 disciples. All we have to do is hold onto the covenant and pray because God will do it. Then, we can enter into the blessing of saving the 70 regions. Through our remnants and church congregations, the great work of saving 70 nations will take place.
