Jesus Utilizes Paul (Acts 26:15-18)

Scripture: “ 15 So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ ”
<Introduction>
It is a story about a man, Jerome Hieronymus who translated the Bible into Latin. Jerome prayed a lot and was in the midst of deep prayer. During his time of deep prayer, the Lord, God came to him and he became very happy when he met the Lord. He started talking to God and told the Lord, “I want to give my everything to You and I want to give You something. Jerome asked the Lord, “What makes you the most happy?” The Lord replied to him, “All things of heaven and earth are Mine but what can you possibly give to Me?” Then, Jerome asked the Lord, “But, I still love you so much so I want to give you the greatest gift. It may not be big but I have some little money, I want to give all of this money to you. Can You accept it?” When the Lord heard this, He was very happy and replied, “Give the money to the poor for I have no use for this money.” Then Jerome kept asking the Lord, “But, I still want to give You something. What can I give You so that You can be happy.” The Lord replied, “If you really love Me and want to make Me Happy then bring Me the sins of people, for this is the reason why I died on the cross. This will make me the most happy and there is no greater gift than this.” Jerome was able to find what makes God the most happy. I think this is so true. What makes God the most happy is when sinners return to God. Those who devote their lives for this life saving movement are the ones who can truly make God happy. Then, how did God use Paul where Paul was able to make God happy? This was because Paul truly did the life saving movement. When is God most happy with us? It is when we put our focus on the life saving movement. The entire world moves and functions so that we can save lives.
1. Jesus' Appearance
1) The meaning of His appearance
Verse 15 - There is a message that Paul relayed today. The story was, when Jesus Christ met Saul (Paul) in Damascus and asked Paul why he was persecuting Him (Jesus). When Paul asked who this “person” was that was speaking to him, Jesus replied that He was the God that Paul was persecuting. Jesus came to Him in the form of a tremendous light. Isn’t this something? Jesus Christ came to Paul saying that He has resurrected and is alive. Not only that but Jesus spoke to Paul and demanded him to stand up on his feet. Paul was so shocked. Someone who Paul thought was dead, this Jesus was demanding Paul to stand up on his feet. The fact that Jesus was demanding for Paul to stand on his feet has a great meeting. This means that Jesus was giving a great commission to Paul.
This is the same content of the message that God gave to Ezekiel in Ezekiel 2:1 (“And He said to me, 'Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.' ”) - This is the same content and message that God gave to Ezekiel and this was the same message that God was giving to Paul. What does this mean? This means that Jesus is God. Jesus is the Creator God and He is commanding Paul and Ezekiel. Paul was proclaiming the gospel in the midst of kings and high officials who Jesus Christ was. When King Agrippa and the Jews heard the words of Paul, they were so shocked. The Jews thought that they killed Jesus Christ and that He was dead but they were shocked to hear that Jesus Christ is alive and has resurrected. The fact that Jesus Christ has resurrected and is alive, this means that Jesus is the Christ. This shows that Jesus is God, the Son of God. The Jews couldn’t believe that this Jesus had resurrected. Then, this could really mean that Jesus was the Christ and the True Messiah to them. The Jews thought it was nonsense that Paul was claiming that Jesus Christ was alive and has resurrected. But, they were more shocked because Paul was the one who was persecuting Christians and Jesus but now, he is testifying that he has witnessed the resurrected Jesus and that Jesus is alive. Then, Paul continues to speak accurately to the Jews and King Agrippa what Jesus had said to him when He appeared to Paul.
2) The reason for His appearance
Verse 16 - Jesus said that He appeared before Paul to make him a minister and witness. Jesus wanted to make a person who was persecuting Christians and Jesus, Himself into a witness. Does that even make sense for this to happen? Jesus Christ said that He will make Paul a minister and witness. To become a bondservant or slave, you are doing what your master tells to do. You are obeying what your master tells you to do. Jesus was telling Paul that He will make Paul into a bondservant and minster. What work will Paul be used for ? A witness and minister for what? It is written in verse 16. It is quite astounding. What Jesus Christ had shown to Paul when He appeared before him, this is what Jesus wanted Paul to relay to the people. Jesus wanted Paul to relay that Jesus has resurrected and is alive. Also, for Paul to remember that God will be with him wherever he goes. He was so shocked to hear this from Jesus. At this moment, he was receiving a mission from Jesus. This shows what an evangelist does.
A mission was relayed from Jesus to Paul on what an evangelist needed to do. All Paul needed to do was being a witness and minister. To relay exactly what Jesus spoke to Paul to the people. When Paul was sharing what he saw before the people, you can see the content of what he was saying. Whenever he spoke to the people, he never inserted his own theological views but he spoke exactly what God wanted to him to say. When we are true evangelists and if we understand this clearly, then we can understand that evangelism is not hard at all. You may say that you have not received enough trainings and you are not ready but those words are unnecessary. All you have to do is relay the God that you have met to others. Jesus Christ didn’t just end here but Jesus made sure to tell Paul who he needed to meet and save.
2. The Reason He Saved Paul
1) Those to whom Paul will testify
Verse 17 - Jesus said that He will send Paul to the Gentiles and the Jews. God was saying that He will send Paul to all people, the Gentiles, and the Jews. God wanted Paul to share the accurate gospel to the people. Why did the Jews try to kill Paul and persecute him? It was because Paul was trying to share the gospel to the Gentiles and the non-Jews. The Jews in Jerusalem who were Christians and disciples were not persecuted by the Jews. The Jewish Christians were not persecuted by the Jews because they were not trying to share the gospel to the Gentiles. But when Paul came and tired to share the gospel to the Gentiles, they realized that they needed to kill Paul. This was because the Jews were stuck in the mentality that they were the “chosen” people of God and the only ones who can receive the gospel. In other words, because of their wrong imprints and frames, their thoughts and imprints ended up destroying them in the end. They couldn’t accept the fact that non-Jews could receive the gospel and were also chosen by God. Because of their wrong frames, not only did it destroy their children but also their family lines and generations.
We need to hold onto a message here. There are many times because of your old frames, your children cannot become imprinted in the gospel. There are a lot of people who live religious lives but even though they have the gospel and hold onto God’s Word, they live a very legalistic, religious life. The law without the gospel is legalism. Legalism does not save others but it kills them instead. Especially what our remnants must know is that we should not judge the adult generations and say that they are doing the wrong things. If you do this, then you cannot receive answers. The true gospel is saving others. You need to understand others and think about how you can help them instead of judging them, then is how we can save them inside the gospel.
2) The reason for salvation
That is why God said that He will send the changed and saved Paul to save the Gentiles and the Jews. When you receive this message and just lightly think that Jesus appeared before Paul, then you will fail this week. The fact that Jesus Christ appeared before Paul, this means that the resurrected and living Christ is alive and existing. This resurrected Jesus came to Paul to bring him salvation. The reason why Jesus bought salvation to Paul was to show that He has saved him and will save the people of this world. In the same way, if we accept Christ, then we will gain life. What is the reason for that? This is because Jesus Christ is alive and working now. That is why the works that took place 2,000 years through Paul was not just part of history but the same works will take place because Jesus Christ is alive.
The reason why God saved us was so that we can save others. Who is the one who will send you out? It is God. That is why it is written in Romans 10:15 (“And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!' ”) - When we go to the fields for evangelism camp, we are not just going there but we are going there because God has sent us there. Our remnants right now are going into evangelism camps as well as our church congregation but all of this was not possible if God didn’t send us. Because God allowed us to go out to the field, that is why we are able to go into the fields for evangelism camps. What makes God the most happy is when we step out into the field to save lives. God doesn’t need our money or anything else but what makes God most happy is when a sinner returns to the Lord. That is why God blesses the feet of those who share the good news of Jesus Christ.
3. The Content of Paul's Testimony
1) Five points
What was the main content of what Paul was sharing before King Agrippa and the Jews? It is written in Verse 18 - There are five important points in this scripture. The first thing that will be accomplished is that the living Lord, God will allow us as evangelists to open the eyes of the people. What does it mean to open our eyes? It means to open our spiritual eyes. How can Paul open the eyes of the people? How is this possible? God was telling Paul that all he had to do was preach the gospel. If he does that then the people will open their spiritual eyes. This is the power of the gospel. We are so lacking and weak. All we have to do is tell people that Jesus Christ is alive and working. All we did was relay the gospel but the eyes of the people will open. Then, something astonishing will happen. The evidences of the gospel will arise. What happens when we open our eyes? Then, you will be moved from darkness to light. When your spiritual eyes are opened, your spiritual state will be moved from darkness to light. This means that you will be moved from death to life. So many people are suffering from living a life of hell on earth but once we open our eyes, we have been moved from the background of hell to the light of peace. This was the message the glorious Jesus shared personally to Paul when He came before him in Damascus. Who will do this? Is Paul the one who will do this? Jesus Christ said that He will do it.
John 14:6 (“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”) - Jesus Christ was saying that He will show that He is the True Prophet who will show the way from darkness to light. Jesus Christ fulfilled His role as the True Prophet when He died on the cross but the same works of Jesus being revealed as the True Prophet takes place when the gospel is relayed and proclaimed. This is very important.
It says here, we be turned from the power of Satan to God. There is tremendous works behind this. What is the work of Satan? Many people who don’t have the gospel and are not saved, they are living as slaves of Satan. But Jesus is saying that He will free us from the bondage of Satan to God’s kingdom and as children of God. How can this happen? It is not with any other method but only when God works. If we just share the gospel then God will work. He will break us free from Satan and allow us to be broken from the bondage of Satan.
1 John 3:8 (“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”) - He is showing that He is the True King who broke the powers of Satan. The moment you share the gospel, these works take place. May you truly hold onto this message. The moment you hold onto this message, then all of your problems will be solved.
The reason for our death was due to sin. What does this mean? This means that Jesus has solved the problem of sin that bought death to mankind. Who solved death? It was Jesus Christ. That is why it is written in 1 Peter 2:24 (“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”) - The reason why Jesus Christ died on the cross was to solve our sins once and for all. The moment you believe in Christ, then all of your sins are finished and you can live with a righteous body. This shows the work of Jesus as the True Priest. These are all of the works that Jesus Christ fulfilled on the cross. If you testify of the cross, then the same works that Jesus Christ fulfilled on the cross will be fulfilled through you.
Verse 18 - When the people heard the gospel that was proclaimed through Paul and accepted the gospel, you become sanctified. The moment you believe in this, then you will become sanctified. In other words, this becomes our identity as saved children of God. Those who are saved, God gives us an opportunity to receive additional blessings. We are not just children of God but we are able to stand as evangelists. The living God was standing before Paul and was sharing His promises to Paul. When you hold onto the same covenant within your life, then the same works will take place. If we proclaim Christ in our lives, then our problems will absolutely be broken down. The same living God will hear our confessions and work upon our evidences within our lies. Truly hold onto this. Repeat after me, “Jesus Christ is alive even now. He is still working.” May you receive answers. He is still alive and working to give us answers. That is why Paul who received God’s Word, he makes a resolution.
2) Paul's resolution in faith
Acts 9:20, 22 (“Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. 22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this Jesus is the Christ.”) - The moment Paul heard the gospel, it said that he immediately preached about Christ. He made a resolution. He made the resolution to become an evangelist. He made the resolution to receive blessings. That is why it continued in this Biblical scripture that he continued to proclaim accurately that Jesus was the Christ in the synagogues. He made the resolution to proclaim of only Christ. Then, God will work. This means that it doesn’t matter what problems you have or the problems of others. All Paul did was share the gospel of Christ.
Galatians 1:17 (“Nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.”) - Not only did he have the resolution towards evangelism but he made the resolution to form a deep relationship with God by going to Arabia. Paul truly made the resolution of prayer. For two years, he staked his entire life to prayer in the wilderness of Arabia. We are continuing to do the 40-day prayer challenge, may we receive the same answers that Paul received when he was in the wilderness of Arabia. May we enter into deep prayer. God has given us the message of Jeremiah 33:2-3. May we receive this answer.
When Paul entered into deep prayer, what answer did he receive? 2 Corinthians 12:2 (“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven.”) - When Paul was testifying of this, he was testifying that he was in such a deep prayer with God, that he couldn’t tell if he was in his physical body or out of his body. This is what it means to receive the answer of 25-hour. May we receive the same answers when we enter into deep prayer. The reason why God wants us to pray is because God promised that He will give us answers. Then, if we make this resolution, what will happen? There are blessings given to those who believe and make a resolution. The same blessings that came to Abraham will come upon us.
3) Blessings for those who make their resolve
This was not blessings that was only promised to Abraham but to people of His covenant. What is this? It is the blessing of Genesis 12:2 (“I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.”) - God promised that He will make us into a great nation. And, He promised us that He will bless us and make our name great. Because of you, people will be saved. We should be so thankful. When we share the gospel to other people, they will become saved and healed. And, not only that but through them, they will save other people around them. Through you, other people will be blessed. May this blessing be evident in your life.
Genesis 13:14-15 (“And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: 'Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.' ”) - Abraham and Lot got into an argument over land but Abraham decided to completely yield to Lot. So, Abraham told Lot that whatever land Lot chooses, he will go to the opposite land. He also allowed Lot to pick his land first. We can see that Abraham completely laid down everything. After he did that, he went up to the mountains and sought after God. He looked up to God alone. Then, at that moment, God appeared before Abraham. God asked Abraham, “Are you seeking after Me? Did you yield to and give up everything? Now, that you have done this, I will help you. Look at the land all around you, all of the land that you see before you are all yours. I will bless your generations abundantly.” What happened when Abraham truly gave up everything before God? It was written in Genesis 13:14-15. All Abraham did was give up everything but great and unexpectedly things were given to him. When Abraham thought he was giving up everything, that was the start of answers and blessings for Abraham. I am sure Lot thought that Abraham was foolish when he heard the words of his uncle giving up everything to him but what Lot lost hold of was the fact that everything was within God’s providence. When you give up everything and come before God, then God will give you great and unexpected blessings that you do not know as well as the blessing of the dual-mandated contract. What does this mean? The moment you make a resolution, give up everything before God, and seek after only Him, then all things are given and permitted to you just like Abraham. We can see that God also made sure to bless his future generations abundantly. Truly enter into this blessing. This is not a simple story but this was an event that actually took place. May we receive this blessing this year.
<Conclusion>
That is why we must hold onto once again of Jeremiah 33:2-3 (“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ ”) - The reason why I keep mentioning this is so that we can receive the blessing within this Bible scripture. The fact that Jesus met Paul who persecuted Christians, this was all part of God’s plan. The fact that you are here listening to this message is because of God’s perfect plan. Jeremiah 33:2-3 - This year, I am not sure what kind of answers God has prepared for me. But God told me to pray while holding onto this message. I can see that God wants to start something within our church. May we let go of everything and humbly come before God. Then, God will work. Let everything go and call out to God. Ask God to help you to live a life like Abraham and Paul. Ask God to guide you. Pray this prayer.

서론
성경을 처음으로 라틴어로 번역한 제롬이라는 사람의 이야기이다. 이 제롬이라는 사람이 기도를 많이 하는 분인데 깊은 기도 가운데 주님이 찾아오셨다. 주님을 만난 제롬은 대단히 기뻤다. 주님과 대화가 시작되었다. “사랑하는 예수님 제가 정성을 다해서 주님께 뭔가 선물을 드리고 싶습니다, 주님께서 무엇을 가장 기뻐하십니까.” 주님께서 대답하셨다. “하늘과 땅의 모든 것이 내 것인데 네가 내게 줄 수 있는 것이 무엇이냐” 했다. 제롬이 이야기했다. “그래도 주님 제가 주님을 너무나 사랑합니다. 그래서 가장 좋은 선물을 드리고 싶습니다. 비록 많지는 않지만 제가 갖고있는 돈을 전부 주님께 드리겠습니다” 했다. 주님계서는 그 이야기를 들으시고 기뻐하셨다. 그리고 말씀하셨다. “네 돈을 다 가난한 사람들에게 나눠주어라. 내게는 돈이 필요 없단다.” 제롬은 그 이야기를 듣고도 계속 주님께 물었다. “그러나 주님 저는 그래도 주님께 뭔가 드리고 싶습니다. 무엇을 드리면 주님께서 기뻐하시겠습니까.” 그 때 주님께서 엄숙한 목소리로 제롬에게 말씀하셨다. “만일 네가 나를 정말로 기쁘게하고 싶다면 사람들의 죄를 나에게 갖고오너라. 내가 이것을 위해 십자가에서 죽었으니까 이것보다 더 기뻐하는 것이 없다” 하고 말씀하셨다. 이것은 주님께서 가장 기뻐하시는 것이 무엇인가를 이야기하고 있다. 그런 것 같다. 주님께서 가장 기뻐하시는 것은 죄인이 주님 앞에 돌아오는 것이다. 그래서 주님께서 가장 기뻐하시는 사역을 하는 사람들을 또 가장 기뻐하신다. 하나님께서 왜 어떻게 이 사도바울을 기뻐하시고 사용하셨는가. 바로 이것을 행하기 때문이다. 하나님께서 우리를 기뻐하시고 사랑해주시는가. 우리가 이것에 모든 방향을 맞추고 있기 때문이다. 하나님께서 모든 세상의 역사도 이것 때문에 주장해나가신다.
1. 예수님의 나타나심
1) 나타나심의 의미
사도바울에게 예수님이 나타나셔서 하신 말씀이 나타난다. 다메섹에 가는 도중에 갑자기 빛이 비추어서 말에서 떨어졌다. “네가 왜 나를 박해하느냐.” “주여 누구십니까.” “나는 네가 박해하는 예수다.” 그 영광의 빛 가운데서 실질적으로 부활하신 주님께서 나타나셨다. 사도바울은 저주받아서 죽어서 무덤 속에 있는 분인 줄 알았는데 부활하셔서 나타나셔서 네가 박해하는 예수다 하니 얼마나 놀랐겠는가. 너는 일어나서 네 발로 서라 하고 명령하셨다. 깜짝 놀랐다. 보좌 우편에 계시다가 나타나셔서 내 앞에 서라 하고 말씀하신다. 네가 내 앞에 바로 서라 하는 것은 굉장한 의미를 갖고 있다. 바로 소명을 주시겠다는 말씀이다. 에스겔을 부르실 때도 이런 말씀을 하셨다.
겔 2:1 그가 내게 이르시되 인자야 네 발로 일어서라 내가 네게 말하리라 하시며
똑같은 내용과 말씀을 예수님께서 똑같이 사도바울에게 하시는 것을 볼 수 있다. 이것은 무엇을 의미하는가. 예수님이 하나님이시라는 것이다. 나는 천지를 창조한 하나님으로서 명하노라 하시는 것이다. 지금 이 말씀을 아그립바 왕과 총독 많은 유대인 고관들 앞에서 증언하고 있다. 아그립바 왕이나 유대인들은 이 소리를 듣고 깜짝 놀란다. ‘아니 우리가 분명 십자가에 못박아서 죽었고 무덤 속에 집어넣었는데 이 사람이 살아났다는 말인가?’ 그 돌아가신 예수님께서 살아생전에 하신 말씀은 내가 바로 그리스도다 하는 말씀이다. 내가 하나님의 아들이라고 말씀하셨다. 그 분이 부활하셨다니. 그렇다면 이 분이 정말로 그리스도가 아니겠느냐. 정말로 하나님의 아들이 아니겠느냐. 지금 유대인들은 죽은 예수님을 부활했다 하니까 말도 안된다며 부인하던 그 순간이다. 그런데 유대인으로서 예수 믿는 사람을 그렇게 핍박했던 사도 바울이 이야기하니까 충격 중의 충격인 것이다.
2) 나타나신 이유
예수님께서 말씀하신 내용을 그들 앞에 자세히 말한다.
행26:16 일어나 너의 발로 서라 내가 네게 나타난 것은 곧 네가 나를 본 일과 장차 내가 네게 나타날 일에 너로 종과 증인을 삼으려 함이니
그렇게 예수 믿는 사람을 핍박했던 이 사람을 종으로 삼다니. 종이라는 것은 주인이 시키는대로 하는 사람이다. 명령대로 따라야하는 것이다. 지금 주님께서 나타나셔서 너를 내 종으로 만들겠다는 것이다. 그러면서 네가 나를 본 일과 장차 내가 네게 나타날 일에 증인이 될 것이라 하신다. 참 놀라운 일이다. 내가 실제 살아서 부활한 모습으로 직접 보여준 이것을 가서 이야기해야한다는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 내가 너와 함께하면서 큰 일을 나타낼 것인데 그것에 증인으로 설 것이라고 하신다. 사도바울이 이 이야기를 듣고 자기가 할 일에 대해 명령을 받은 것이다. 이것을 보게되면 전도자가 어떤 일을 하게 되는 것을 자세하게 말씀하시는 것을 찾아볼 수 있다. 전도하는데 있어서 네가 해야한다는 말씀이 전혀 없는 것을 볼 수 있다. 사도바울이 해야할 것은 단지 종과 증인으로서의 역할만 하라는 것이다. 내가 한 일을 네가 가서 이야기하면 된다는 것이다. 지금 사도바울이 실질적으로 전도하면서 무슨 이야기를 하는지를 찾아볼 수 있다. 이 사람들에게 복음을 전할 때 “내 생각에는” 하면서 신학을 이야기하거나 이론을 이야기하지 않았다. 내가 주님을 본 일과 생긴 일만 그대로 말하고 있다. 우리가 참 전도자라 하게되면 전도는 하나도 어려운 것이 없다는 것을 생각해볼 수 있다. 나는 훈련을 못받아서, 나는 잘 몰라서 전도를 못해 이런 얘기를 할 수 없다는 것이다. 내가 만난 주님, 나를 통해 이루어가시는 주님의 일을 증거하는 것이 전도라는 것이다. 주님께서는 이것으로 끝나는 것이 아니라 누구한테 가라는 것도 정확하게 말씀하신다.
2. 바울을 구원시키신 이유

그들에게 너를 보내겠다고 말씀하고 있다. 증거 대상이 누구냐면 유대인들과 이방인들, 모든 민족을 다 포함하는 것이다. 유대인 가운데서도 복음이 없는 사람은 누구나 해당되는 것이다. 이 세상에 누구나 복음이 없는 사람에게 복음을 정확히 증거하라는 것이다. 유대인들이 사도바울을 죽이려고 하고 핍박했던 원인이 무엇인가. 그들은 이방인에게 복음을 전하는 사도바울을 죽여야한다고 했다. 예루살렘에 있었던 제자들과 많은 믿는 사람들은 유대인들이 핍박하지 않았다. 그 사람들은 이방인들에게 복음 전하지 않았으니까. 너랑 나랑 비슷하다 하면서 묵인하고 있었다. 그 사람들이 보기에는 사도바울이라는 이상한 사람이 나타나서 이방인들에게도 하나님 자녀가 될 수 있다고 하니 이단이라며 죽여야 된다는 것이다. 그들에게는 이방인들이 하나님의 자녀가 된다는 것은 상상하지 못할 일이다. 그들에게 선민사상이 수천년 동안 박혀있기 때문에 쉽사리 바뀔 수 없는 것이다. 그들이 갖고있던 잘못된 옛 틀 때문에 무시무시한 일을 벌이고 있는 것이다. 자기들 생각에 유대인들만 하나님의 택한 백성이고 이방인들은 지옥에서 땔감으로 사용할 것에 지나지 않는데 저것들이 하나님의 자녀가 된다는 것은 받아들일 수 없는 것이다. 그들이 갖고있는 잘못된 옛틀 때문에 자신 뿐 아니라 자식들도 멸망 당하게 된다. 우리도 여기서 말씀을 붙잡아야겠다. 내 자신도 옛 틀 때문에 응답받지 못하는 경우가 많이 있다. 많은 종교생활 하는 사람들을 보게되면 말씀ㅇ르 갖고 있으면서도 율법적인 생활을 한다. 율법을 알면서도 복음이 없으면 율법주의라고 얘기한다. 율법주의는 상대방을 살리는 것이 아니라 죽이는 것이다. 특히 우리 렘넌튿르이 붙잡아야할 것은 성경을 많이 알고 복음을 안다고해서 쉽게 남들을 판단하기 쉽다. 그렇게 되면 응답받지 못한다. 참다운 복음이라는 것은 살리는 것이다. 율법을 통해서 저 사람들이 저렇게 할 수 밖에 없는 이유를 발견하고 도와주는 것이 복음가진 사람이다. 그래서 예수님께서 친히 지금 사도바울에게 말씀하시는 것이 그것이다. 내가 너를 구원해서 그들에게 보내겠다는 것이다.
2) 구원시키신 이유
오늘 말씀을 들으면서 사도바울에게 예수님께서 그 때 나타나셨구나 하면 또 실패하시는 것이다. 예수님께서 그 당시에 사도바울에게 나타나셨다는 것은 부활하신 주님께서 계시다는 것이다. 그 부활하신 주님께서 사도바울에게 말씀하시기를 내가 너를 구원해서 보내겠다고 하셨다. 예수님께서 구원해서 보내겠다는 것은 내가 살았기 때문에 너를 살릴 수 있다는 것이다. 우리도 예수님을 영접한 순간에 살아나게 된다. 그 이유가 뭐냐하면 주님께서 지금도 살아계시기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 사도바울에게 일어났던 2천년 전 사건이 아니라 지금도 똑같이 일어난다는 것을 붙잡아야겠다. 너를 구원해서 증인 삼기 위함이라고 하신다. 보내시는 분이 바로 주님이시다.
롬10:15 보내심을 받지 아니하였으면 어찌 전파하리요 기록된 바 아름답도다 좋은 소식을 전하는 자들의 발이여 함과 같으니라
우리가 전도 현장을 가는데 가고 싶어서 가는 것이 아니라 주님께서 보내셔서 갔다는 것이다. 우리 렘넌트들이 전도 현장을 가고 있다. 우리도 같이 가고 있다. 주님께서 보내시지 아니하면 이런 일이 있을 수 없다는 것이다. 실질적으로 살아계신 주님께서 우리를 보내시는 것이다. 그래서 이야기한다. 아름답도다 좋은 소식을 전하는 자들의 발이여 함과 같으니라. 이 제롬 이야기를 했습니다만, 하나님께서 가장 기뻐하시는 것이 생명 구원을 하기 위해서 가는 발걸음이다. 하나님에게는 돈도 필요 없고 어떤 것도 필요 없다. 가장 기뻐하시는 것은 죄인이 주님 앞에 돌아오는 것이다. 그 발길을 기뻐하시면서 축복해주신다. 그러면서 지금 사도바울에게 주님께서 말씀하신다.
3. 바울이 증언할 내용
1) 5가지
행26:18 그 눈을 뜨게 하여 어둠에서 빛으로, 사탄의 권세에서 하나님께로 돌아오게 하고 죄 사함과 나를 믿어 거룩하게 된 무리 가운데서 기업을 얻게 하리라 하더이다
여기서 다섯가지 중요한 내용을 이야기한다. 제일 먼저 얘기하는 것이 살아계신 예수님께서 사도바울에게 명령하는 것이 그들에게 가서 눈을 뜨게 하라는 것이다. 그 눈을 뜨게 하라는 것은 영적인 눈을 뜨도록 만들으라는 것이다. 사도바울이 어떻게 영적인 눈을 뜨게 하는가. 사도바울은 어떻게 할지 모른다. 주님께서 말씀하시는 것이 가서 복음만 전하는 것이다. 나만 증거하라는 것이다. 그러면 그들이 눈을 뜨게될 것이라고 하신다. 이것이 복음의 신비이고 능력이다. 우리는 아무 능력도 힘도 없다. 단지 우리가 할 수 있는 것은 주님이 실제 나타나시고 주님께서 보여주신 그것만 이야기할 뿐이다. 우리는 복음만 전했는데 주님께서 눈을 뜨게 하시겠다는 것이다. 놀라운 사건이 생기는 것이다. 세상 사람들은 도저히 알지 못하는 사건이 말씀 증거를 통해서 나타날 것이라는 것이다. 그래서 눈을 뜨게되면 실질적으로 어둠에서 빛으로 인도하는 역사가 나타난다는 것이다. 복음을 증거한 역사가 어떻게 나타나느냐. 어둠에서 빛으로 그 사람이 바뀐다는 것이다. 수 많은 사람들이 어두움 가운데서, 지옥 배경에서 살아가고 있다. 내가 이 문제를 어떻게 해결해야할지 몰라서 고통 가운데 죽어가고 있다. 그 어두운 지옥 배경에서 하나님 나라로 인도되는 역사가 나타난다는 것이다. 세상 고통 속에서 평강으로 인도하신다는 것이다. 이 말씀은 살아계신 주님께서 영광 가운데서 실질적으로 사도바울에게 주신 말씀이다. 누가 할 것인가. 사도바울이 아니라 주님 자신이 하시겠다는 것이다.
요14:6 예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라
내가 너희를 어두운데서 인도할 참 선지자라는 것을 보여주겠다는 것이다. 말씀만 증거하는데 주님께서 하시겠다는 것이다. 주님께서 십자가 상에서 선지자 직분을 감당하셨기 때문에 복음이 증거되는 순간에 그것이 실질적으로 나타난다는 것이다. 이것이 참으로 너무나 중요하다. 사단의 권세에서 하나님께로 돌아가게 하겠다고 이야기하고 있다. 사단의 권세가 무엇인가. 사단의 지배를 나타낸다. 많은 세상 사람들, 복음이 없는 사람들은 사단의 종노릇 하면서 살고있다. 사단의 종된 신분에서 하나님 자녀로 삼아주시겠다는 것이다. 어떻게해서 이런 일이 생기는가. 단지 복음을 통해서 내가 역사하시겠다는 것이다. 네가 복음만 얘기하면 내가 역사하겠다는 것이다. 실제 흑암의 권세를 깨뜨리고 내가 해방시키겠다는 것이다.
요일3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 마귀는 처음부터 범죄함이라 하나님의 아들이 나타나신 것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이라
내가 십자가에서 사단의 권세를 완전히 깨뜨린 만왕의 왕이라는 것이다. 그 증거를 너에게 보여주는데 복음을 증거하는 순간에 나타난다는 것이다. 이 말씀을 정말로 잡으시기 바란다. 여러분들도 모든 문제에서 해방받은 것이다. 그리고 죄사함에 대해서 나타난다. 죄 사함이라는 것은 죄 문제를 해결했다는 것이다. 죽음의 원인이 죄였다. 죽음의 문제를 해결하셨다는 것이다. 누가 했느냐. 주님께서 하셨다는 얘기다.
벧전2:24 친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게 하려 하심이라 그가 채찍에 맞음으로 너희는 나음을 얻었나니
내가 십자가에 못박혀 죽음으로서 너희 죄를 다 해결하지 않았냐는 것이다. 나를 믿는 순간에 죄에서 끝나고 의에 대해서 거룩한 몸으로 살게된다는 것이다. 죄 문제를 완전히 해결하신 참 제사장의 직분을 나타낸다. 주님께서 십자가 상에서 이것을 다 이루셨다. 이 십자가를 증거하게 되면 너희들이 증거받은 그 사람들과 똑같은 역사가 나타날 것이라는 것이다. 뿐만 아니다.
행 26:18 --나를 믿어 거룩하게 된 무리 가운데서 기업을 얻게 하리라 하더이다
복음 전하는 것을 듣고 예수 그리스도를 영접하게 된다. 믿고 영접하는 순간에 거룩하게 된 무리가 되는 것이다. 구원받은 신분이 되게 되는 것이다. 그럼 구원받은 사람 가운데서 또 다시 기업을 주게되는 축복을 받게될 것이라는 말이다. 너에게 메세지를 받은 그 사람이 다시 전도 제자가 되어서 너와 똑같은 일을 할 것이라는 말이다. 여러분 이것은 지금도 살아계신 주님께서 친히 바울 앞에서 하신 언약의 말씀이다. 이 언약을 나의 것으로 잡는 순간에 똑같은 역사가 일어난다. -완전히 해결되는 축복을 받게된다. 지금도 살아계시는 주님께서 우리의 증거를 통해서 똑같은 역사를 나타내신다. 같이 따라하시기 바란다. 주님은 지금도 살아계십니다. 지금도 똑같이 역사하십니다. 지금도 살아계셔서 똑같이 응답을 주신다. 이 메세지를 들은 사도바울은 결단한다.
2) 바울의 신앙결단
행9:20 즉시로 각 회당에서 예수가 하나님의 아들이심을 전파하니
그 메세지를 듣자마자 사도바울은 즉시로 결단했다. 무슨 결단인가. 전도자가 되겠다는 결단이다. 이 축복을 내가 받겠다는 것이다.
행 9:22 사울은 힘을 더 얻어 예수를 그리스도라 증언하여 다메섹에 사는 유대인들을 당혹하게 하니라
그 이야기를 들은 사도바울은 정확하게 예수님이 그리스도십니다 하고 선포했다. 나는 그리스도만 이야기하겠다는 것이다. 예수님이 그리스도라는 사실만 증거하겠다는 것이다. 그렇다면 역사는 주님께서 하시는 것이다. 어떤 문제를 가진 사람이라도 상관이 없다. 나는 예수님이 그리스도라는 사실만 선포하면 되는 것이다. 이 비밀을 깨달은 것이다.
갈1:17 또 나보다 먼저 사도 된 자들을 만나려고 예루살렘으로 가지 아니하고 아라비아로 갔다가 다시 다메섹으로 돌아갔노라
전도의 결단 뿐 아니라 자기가 변화받고나서 주님과 더 깊은 교제를 하고 싶에서 2년 동안 아라비아 광야로 간다. 사도바울은 기도의 결단을 한 것이다. 2년 동안이나 생명을 다해서 아라비아 광야에서 사막 중에 기도했다는 것이다. 우리가 지금 40일 기도를 계속 하고있다. 사도바울이 누렸던 이 축복을 받으시기 바란다. 깊은 기도 속에 들어가시기 바란다. 분명 하나님께서는 렘 33:2-3의 언약을 우리에게 주셨다. 크고 은밀한 일을 너희에게 보여주겠다고 하셨다. 이 축복 누리시기 바란다. 사도바울은 깊은 기도를 해서 어떤 응답을 받았는가.
고후12:2 내가 그리스도 안에 있는 한 사람을 아노니 그는 십사 년 전에 셋째 하늘에 이끌려 간 자라 (그가 몸 안에 있었는지 몸 밖에 있었는지 나는 모르거니와 하나님은 아시느니라)
사도바울은 이것을 간증할 때 자신이라고 하지 않고 겸손하게 내가 그 사람을 아는데 하늘에 올라가서 이런 놀라운 광경을 봤다. 몸 밖에 있는지 안에 있는지 모를만큼 주님과 깊은 교제의 단계에 들어갔다. 우리가 말하는 25시의 응답이다. 여러분들도 깊은 기도 가운데서 이런 응답 받으시기 바란다. 하나님께서 우리에게 기도하라고 하신 것은 응답 주시겠다고 약속하신 것이다.
3) 결단하는 자가 받을 축복
결단하는 자에게 어떤 축복이 있는가. 모든 믿음의 후손들에게는 아브라함의 축복을 주신다.
창12:2 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대하게 하리니 너는 복이 될지라
너를 복의 근원으로 삼겠다는 것이다. 그리고 너를 축복하는 자는 내가 복을 내리고 너를 저주하는 자에게는 내가 저주를 내리겠다는 것이다. 너를 보배롭게 끝까지 지켜주겠다는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 땅의 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 받을 것이라 하셨다. 지난 날을 생각해보시라. 여러분들이 전한 복음을 통해서 살아난 수 많은 사람들이 있을 것이다. 얼마나 감사한 일인가. 우리가 복음만 전했을 뿐인데 그 사람들이 치유받고 하나님 자녀가 되는 역사가 나타났다. 그 사람들이 또 다른 사람들을 구원하게 되면 어마어마한 역사가 일어나는 것이다. 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 받게될 것이라는 것이다. 이 말씀이 지속적으로 나타나야할 줄로 믿는다.
창13:14-15 롯이 아브람을 떠난 후에 여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 눈을 들어 너 있는 곳에서 북쪽과 남쪽 그리고 동쪽과 서쪽을 바라보라. 15 보이는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니 영원히 이르리라
여러분 잘 아시다시피 이 롯을 보내면서 롯과 아브라함 사이에 재산 싸움이 벌어졌다. 그 때 아브라함이 결단한다. 재산 때문에 조카하고 싸우면 되겠나. 내가 완전히 포기하겠다 결단을 내린 것이다. 네가 오른쪽하면 내가 왼쪽하겠다. 네가 좋은데를 먼저 선택해라. 모든 것을 다 내려놨다는 것이다. 그리고는 혼자 산에 들어갔다. 오직 하나님만 찾아갔다. 그 때 하나님께서 아브라함에게 나타나셨다. “네가 나를 바라보고 네 갖고 있는 모든 것을 포기했느냐. 내가 진짜로 너를 도와주겠다. 네가 눈을 들어보아라. 동서남북 모든 땅을 네게 주겠다. 네 자손을 풍성하게 주겠다.” 다 포기했는데 하나님은 실질적으로 어마어마한 것을 주셨다. 주님만 바라봤는데 이런 상상도 못할 역사가 나타났다. 아마 조카 롯은 가면서 “우리 삼촌 참 어리석은 사람이야” 하고 웃으면서 갔을지도 모른다. 부와 생명까지도 하나님께서 주관하신다는 사실을 롯은 놓쳤던 것이다. 모든 것을 포기하고 주님 앞에 갔을 때 하나님께서는 어마어마한 상상치도 못할 이면계약의 축복을 나타내셨다. 아브라함이 결단한 순간에 모든 것이 허락된 것이다. 모든 후손까지도 완벽하게 축복해주셨다. 이 축복 속에 들어가시기 바란다. 이것은 단순히 이야기가 아니라 실질적으로 이루어졌던 사건이다. 올 해 우리가 이 축복을 정말로 받아야겠다.
결론
다시 한 번 결론으로 렘 33:2-3 말씀을 잡아야겠다. 제가 자꾸만 결론에 이것을 넣는 것이 정말로 이 언약을 받기 위해서이다. 핍박자 사도바울을 주님께서 만나신 것도 하나님께서 계획하신 것이다. 이 시간 여러분에게 말씀드리는 것도 하나님 계획 가운데 들어있는 것이다.
렘 33:2-3 일을 행하시는 여호와, 그것을 만들며 성취하시는 여호와, 그의 이름을 여호와라 하는 이가 이와 같이 이르시도다. 너는 내게 부르짖으라 내가 네게 응답하겠고 네가 알지 못하는 크고 은밀한 일을 네게 보이리라
저는 올 해 하나님께서 어떤 응답을 주실지 모르겠다. 주님께서 말씀주시고 기도하라고 하시니까 하는 것이다. 연초서부터 하나님께서 교회를 통해 많은 것을 시작하시는 것을 보게된다. 이 순간 우리는 모든 것을 다 내려놓고 겸손한 마음으로 주님 앞에 나가시기 바란다. 그 때 하나님께서 역사하실 것이다. 모든 것 다 내려놓고 주님앞에 부르짖으시기 바란다. 아브라함과 바울과 같은 삶을 살게 해주옵소서. 저를 인도해 주옵소서. 기도하시기 바란다.
