그리스도 피로 세우신 새 언약(히8:7-9)
서론
제가 교제하는 치과 의사선생님이 있다. 그 분에게 들은 이야기이다. 온라인으로 예배를 드리다보니까 힘이 빠진다고 했다. 교인들이 다 힘이 빠져있습니다 했다. 우리도 얼마전까지 온라인으로 예배를 드렸다. 하영하 권사님이 언제 교회에 가서 예배를 드릴 수 있습니까 하고 물었다. 계속 힘이 빠진다고 했다. 포럼이 없으면 힘들었을 것이라고 했다. 빨리 예배를 회복해야겠구나 생각하고 수리가 끝나자나마자 즉시로 대면 예배로 바꾸었다. 왜 이렇게 차이가 나는가? 무엇보다도 예배를 드리는 사람의 마음 자세가 다르다. 강단에서 바라보면서 예배를 드리는 것과 컴퓨터 앞에 앉아서 예배드리는 것은 하늘땅 차이가 난다. 동참하는 자체가 근본적으로 다르다. 더 중요한 것은 우리가 교회에서 예배를 드리는 이 시간에는 하늘에서 성령의 놀라운 역사가 임재한다. 실제적으로 성령께서 하늘 보좌에서 역사하심을 느끼게 된다. 이 온라인으로 드리는 예배는 보통 아는 바와 같이 성경 공부 수준으로 말씀을 깨닫는 정도는 되는 것 같다. 그러면 온라인 예배 밖에 드릴 수 없는 상황에서는 어떻게 하는가. 비록 컴퓨터 앞에서 예배를 드리지만 정식 예배와 같이 드리는 것이다. 일어날 때는 같이 일어나서 경건한 마음으로 찬양을 드리고 헌금도 하고 말씀을 받는 것이다. 가장 중요한 것은 끝나고 난 다음에 포럼을 해서 말씀을 나의 말씀으로 잡는 것이 중요하다. 지금 우리가 예배를 드리는 것은 예배를 드리는 것에서 끝나는 것이 아니라 하늘 보좌에 계신 주님과 하늘 군대와 천군 천사들이 함께하는 그런 시간이다. 실질적으로 역사가 일어나고있다. 오늘도 예배를 통해서 큰 은혜 받으시는 시간 되시기 바란다.
1. 옛 언약과 새 언약
1) 첫 언약
히 8:7 저 첫 언약이 무흠하였더라면 둘째 것을 요구할 일이 없었으려니와
첫번째 언약이라는 것은 율법을 이야기한다. 우리가 이 시간을 비롯해서 율법을 깊이 알아보는 시간을 가져야겠다. 율법의 종류를 세 가지로 나누어볼 수 있다. 첫번째는 도덕법, 두번째는 시민법, 세번째는 제사법이다. 도덕법은 십계명을 이야기한다. 돌에 파서 직접 인간에게 주신 말씀이다. 이 십계명은 이스라엘 백성 유대인에게만 준 것이 아니라 지구상의 모든 인류에게 주신 말씀이다. 두 가지로 나뉜다. 일계명에서부터 사계명가지는 하나님과의 관계에 대해서 이야기한다. 하나님께 예배를 드리는 방법을 이야기하고 있다. 여섯번째부터 열번째까지는 인간과의 관계를 이야기한다. 세상에서 이렇게 살아야한다는 말씀을 주신 것이다.
롬 3:20 그러므로 율법의 행위로 그의 앞에 의롭다 하심을 얻을 육체가 없나니 율법으로는 죄를 깨달음이니라
율법으로 인해 이게 죄로구나 하는 것을 알게된다. 예를 들어 말씀드리면 일계명에서부터 사계명까지는 예배를 드리는 것을 말한다. 모든 인류에게 주신 말씀이다. 예배를 드리지 않는 것은 죄라는 것이다. 믿는 사람이나 믿지 않는 사람이나 똑같이 예배를 드리지 않는 것은 죄라는 것이다. 하나님을 믿지 않는 사람 중에도 착한 일 많이하고 훌륭한 사람들이 있다. 그렇다하더라도 하나님께 예배를 드리지 않을 때는 하나님과 상관없는 사람이라는 것이다. 그래서 예수를 안믿으면 지옥에 가는구나 하는 것을 깨닫는 것이다. 두번째는 시민법이 있다. 시민법은 십계명을 삶에 적용시켜서 만든 법이다. 당시 모세에게 허락해주신 것은 고대 유대인들에게 맞는 생활 방식을 알 수 있도록 법을 정해줬다. 유대인들이 이것을 연구하면서 613가지로 구분했다. 거기서 하라 하는 명령으로 하신 것이 248개 조항으로 나타난다. 하지 말라 하고 정한것이 365가지로 나타난다. 유대인들이 주장하기를 왜 248가지인가하면 인간의 마디 수가 248마디가 있다고 한다. 248가지의 하라는 것은 온 몸을 다해서 마디를 움직여서 실질적으로 하라 하는 뜻이라고 말한다. 하지말라는 것은 365가지이다. 일 년 날 수가 365일이다. 매일 하나님 말씀을 각인시키라는 것이다. 왜 각인시켜야하는가. 아담과 하와가 실패한 원인이 창 2:17 에 하지 말라는 말씀을 어겼기 때문에 인간에게 모든 저주가 왔다. 그 말씀을 확실히 각인시키고 붙잡고 있었다면 영원한 생명을 누리면서 살았을 텐데 그 말씀을 무시하는 결과로 인간이 죄에 빠졌다. 그래서 날마다 365일을 하지 말라는 것이다. 하나님께서도 명령하셨다. 문에도 말씀을 써놓으라고 하셨다. 이마에도 손에도 붙이라고 하셨다. 성경에서 이야기하는 것을 보면 매일 정도가 아니라 24시 말씀을 놓치지 말라고 하신다. 그 다음에 제사법이 있다. 하나님께 드리는 모든 제사 방법을 자세히 기록해놓았다. 이 제사법을 보면 우리가 어떻게 어떤 방법으로 어떤 마음으로 예배를 드려야할지를 자세하게 기록해놓았다. 그래서 우리 인간들이 지켜야할 모든 것을 자세하게 기록한 것이 이 율법이다. 오늘 말씀에 보니까 그 율법에 흠이 있었다고 한다. 무슨 말인가.
갈 3:24 이같이 율법이 우리를 그리스도께로 인도하는 초등교사가 되어 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 말미암아 의롭다 함을 얻게 하려 함이라
초등학생, 어린 학생을 가르치듯이 쉽게 축복을 받는 방법을 가르쳐준 것이 율법이라고 말하고 있다. 초등학생도 알아들을 수 있을 정도로 자세하게 기록했음에도 유대인들은 그것을 지키지 못했다. 왜 그런가하면 타락된 인간이 갖고있는 본성을 율법으로는 고칠 수가 없었다. 하나님께서는 그래서 우리에게 새 언약을 주셨다.
2) 새 언약
히 8:8 그들의 잘못을 지적하여 말씀하시되 주께서 이르시되 볼지어다 날이 이르리니 내가 이스라엘 집과 유다 집과 더불어 새 언약을 맺으리라
하나님께서는 인간이 실패했음에도 실망하지 아니하시고 모든 인류를 살리시기 위해 계획을 세우시고 새 언약을 허락해주셨다. 하나님께 참 감사하다. 초등학생처럼 돌봐주려고 하니까 안되서 새 언약을 만들어줘야겠다 하고 우리를 배려하시는 것을 볼 수 있다.
마 5:17 내가 율법이나 선지자를 폐하러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라 폐하러 온 것이 아니요 완전하게 하려 함이라
율법을 인간에게 주었는데 근본적으로 악한 근성이 바뀌지 않는다. 하나님께서는 그래서 새 언약을 허락해주신 것이다. 율법을 완전하게 하려하시기 위해서라는 것이다. 예수님께서 친히 말씀하셨다.
눅 22:20 저녁 먹은 후에 잔도 그와 같이 하여 이르시되 이 잔은 내 피로 세우는 새 언약이니 곧 너희를 위하여 붓는 것이라
주님께서 새 언약을 우리에게 주셨는데 너희를 위하여 붓는 것이라고 하신다. 예수님이 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가심으로서 완성시키셨다는 것이다. 하나님께서는 인간에게 끝없는 사랑을 베풀어주시는 것을 볼 수 있다.
2. 하나님의 사랑
1) 손을 잡고 인도
저는 이것을 보면서 하나님 사랑을 끝이 없이 우리는 돌봐주시고 보호해주신다는 생각이 들었다. 재미있는 말씀이 나타난다.
히 8:9 또 주께서 이르시기를 이 언약은 내가 그들의 열조의 손을 잡고 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내던 날에 그들과 맺은 언약과 같지 아니하도다 그들은 내 언약 안에 머물러 있지 아니하므로 내가 그들을 돌보지 아니하였노라
이 말씀을 들으면 어떤 마음이 드는가. 열조의 손을 잡고 애굽 땅에서 인도했다고 나온다. 이 단어의 뜻을 보게되면 부모가 조그만 어린 아이의 손을 꼭 붙잡고 같이 걸어가는 것을 나타낸다. 천방지축 헤매는 아이를 붙잡고 친히 하나님께서 손을 잡고 애굽에서 가나안 땅으로 가셨다는 것이다. 또 영원히 살 땅을 선물로 주셨다. 얼마나 기가 막힌가. 그 날에 맺은 언약이라고 나온다. 언약이 어떤 것인지 알 수 있다. 언약이라는 것은 초등학생도 행할 수 있는 정도의 말씀이라는 것이다. 우리가 율법을 어떻게 지켜 하는 것 자체는 말씀을 순종할 생각을 하지 않고 자기 뜻대로 살려는 의도를 가지고 얘기할 때 하는 말이다. 어린 아이 처럼 부모님들이 하시는 말씀을 그대로 붙잡게되면 반드시 그 아이는 축복받게 된다.
신 28:1 네가 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 삼가 듣고 내가 오늘날 네게 명하는 그 모든 명령을 지켜 행하면 네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 세계 모든 민족 위에 뛰어나게 하실 것이다
너희들이 만일 내가 지시한 말을 그대로 순종하면 모든 민족 위에 뛰어난 민족이 되게 해주신다는 것이다. 이것은 이스라엘 백성들에게만 하신 말씀이 아니다. 주님께서 하신 말씀만 붙잡고 순종하게되면 모든 민족 위에 뛰어난 서밋이 되게 해주신다는 말씀이다. 세계 서밋 되는 것은 너무나 쉽다. 내가 노력해서 수고하는 것보다도 말씀에 순종하면 하나님께서 나로 하여금 서밋이 되도록 하신다. 문제 생기면 해결하기 위해서 애를 쓴다. 하나님께서는 전혀 다른 방법으로 내 말씀에 순종하면 내가 하겠다 하신다. 그런데 유대인들은 어떻게 했는가. 그들은 내 언약에 머물러있지 아니하므로 내가 그들을 돌보지 아니하였노라. 그들이 악행을 했다. 너희들 오직 하나님만 섬겨라 그러면 축복해주겠다 했는데 하나님을 섬기지 않고 우상을 섬겼다. 이것이 더 유익이고 물질도 생길 것 같아 하면서 하나님을 섬기는 것을 멀리하고 다른 것을 쫓아다녔다. 그래서 하나님께서 그들을 돌보지 않으셨다. 그 결과 어떻게 됬는가. 북이스라엘은 앗수르에게 멸망당해서 종족 자체가 없어져버렸다. 몇 명이 겨우 살았을까. 근본적으로 없어져버렸다. 남유다는 기원전 586년에 멸망당했다. 70년 포로생활을 한다. 다윗부터 내려왔던 왕가가 멸망당하고 비참하게 창에 맞아 죽는 꼴을 당한다. 바벨론 포로가서 시드기야 왕이 죽음을 당한 것은 다윗 왕조에서 나는 인간적인 왕이 끝났다는 것이다. 예수님이 오실 때까지 다윗 후손이 왕이 되지 못하고 완전히 끝났다. 어마어마한 사건이다. 그러나 인간은 그렇게 하나님을 배반해도 하나님께서는 끝까지 약속하신 언약을 지키신다. 참 희한한 원리이다. 인간은 하나님 말씀을 배반한다. 축복을 주시겠다고 해도 말을 안듣고 다른데로 간다. 그런데 하나님은 자기가 하신 말씀을 꼭 지키신다. 참 감사하다.
2) 그리스도로 회복
마 1:20 이 일을 생각할 때에 주의 사자가 현몽하여 이르되 다윗의 자손 요셉아 네 아내 마리아 데려오기를 무서워하지 말라 그에게 잉태된 자는 성령으로 된 것이라
여기서 뭐라고 말씀하시냐면 다윗의 자손 요셉아 하신다. 이것은 인간의 범죄로 인해서 멸망 당했던 다윗 왕가, 그러나 나는 다윗의 후손을 통해서 영원한 왕을 세우겠다는 약속을 성취하기 위해서 찾아왔다는 것을 의미한다. 이를 통해서 다윗에게 약속하신 언약대로 영원한 왕좌를 이루게하리라는 말씀이다.
마 1:21 아들을 낳으리니 이름을 예수라 하라 이는 그가 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원할 자이심이라 하니라
이 말씀은 대단히 중요하다. 제사장 직분을 행하는 것이 레위 족속이 아닌 시 110:4절 말씀의 성취로서 이 아들을 보내주겠다는 것이다. 멜기세덱의 반차로 영원한 제사장을 세우겠다고 하지 않았냐, 그 말씀의 성취로서 보내겠다는 것이다. 그가 모든 죄를 용서할 것이라는 말이다.
마 1:23 보라 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요 그의 이름은 임마누엘이라 하리라 하셨으니 이를 번역한즉 하나님이 우리와 함께 계시다 함이라
이사야 선지자를 통해서 약속하신 언약이 성취된 그 분이 오셨다는 것이다. 이것을 통해서 무엇을 잡을 수 있는가. 하나님의 말씀은 반드시 성취된다는 것이다. 인간은 배반해도 하나님께서는 배반하지 않으신다. 인간은 약속을 어겨도 하나님은 절대로 약속을 어기시는 분이 아니다. 그 분이 배반한 이스라엘 백성들 앞에서 친히 못박혀 돌아가시고 승천하셔서 보좌 우편에 앉으셨다. 보좌에 앉으신 분은 어떤 분이신가.
마 28:18-19 예수께서 나아와 말씀하여 이르시되 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니 19 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고
세상 끝날까지 항상 함께있을 것이라고 하신다. 보좌에 앉으셔서 항상 함께하시면서 하나님의 새언약을 이루어나가시는 것이다. 얼마나 확실하신 하나님이신가. 지금도 보좌우편에 계신 줄로 믿는다.
3. 응답과 현장
1) 영적 통신망
원단 메세지를 받았다. 보좌의 축복과 능력을 확실하게 누리자고 말씀 받았다. 분명한 것은 보좌에 계신 주님은 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 가지신 분이다. 그 권세는 시공간을 초월하는 권세이다. 또 하나님께서 우리를 축복하시는 것은 전 세계를 미치는 축복이다.
계 8:4-5 향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는 지라. 5 천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라
원단메세지에서 이것을 보고 영적 통신망이라는 단어를 썼다. 성도의 기도와 함께 올라갔다고 나온다. 우리가 기도하게 되면 우리 기도를 천사가 받아서 같이 올라간다는 것이다. 그 기도가 즉시 하나님 보좌 앞에 가게된다. 하나님께서 그것을 보시고 결제를 하신다. 그러면 천사가 향로에 불을 담아다가 내려온다. 그 응답은 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진과 같다. 바로 영적 통신망이다. 우리식으로 적용을 해보겠다. 휴대폰으로 전화를 건다. 나는 T-mobile을 쓰고 있는데 전화를 하면 먼저 T-mobile로 전파가 간다. 그러면 T-mobile에서 하늘의 위성에 전파를 보낸다. 위성에서 직접 상대방에게 간다. 선도 없는데도 불구하고 다 통한다. 선은 없지만 한국에 있는 사람이라도 통화 할 수 있다는 확신을 갖고 전화한다. 세상 것도 그렇게 통하고있다. 눈에 안보이는 영적사실은 분명히 이루어지고 있다. 확신을 잡으시기 바란다. 말씀을 잡고 기도하게 될 때는 분명히 모든 기도가 천사를 통해 올라간다. 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 가지시 주님의 보좌의 권세가 나타난다. 그 영향력은 전 세계와 영계, 흑암 권세까지도 미친다. 기도하는 순간에 전화 걸면 금방 한국에 있는 사람이 전화를 받듯이 그냥 역사가 일어난다. 믿으시는가. 이것을 분명히 믿어야한다. 반드시 살아계신 주님께서 우리 기도를 한마디도 놓치지 않으시고 다 응답하고 계시다는 사실을 분명히 붙잡아야한다.
2) 교회는 영적 통신망
교회는 바로 영적 통신망이라고 이야기한다. 언약궤가 있는 성막에 항상 불을 밝혔다. 예배를 드릴 때는 영적 임재의 역사가 나타났다. 마찬가지로 예배를 드릴 때는 엄청난 역사가 일어나고 있다. 분명한 것은 말씀을 증거하는 이 순간에도 놀라운 영적인 역사가 일어나고 있다. 하나님께서는 이 말씀을 통해서 중직자를 살리고 렘넌트를 살리고 237을 살리는 역사를 하고 계신다. 교회를 중심으로 일어나고 있다.
단 6:10 다니엘이 이 조서에 왕의 도장이 찍힌 것을 알고도 자기 집에 돌아가서는 윗방에 올라가 예루살렘으로 향한 창문을 열고 전에 하던 대로 하루 세 번씩 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 그의 하나님께 감사하였더라
이 다니엘은 비록 포로로 잡혀갔지만 하나님의 성전을 바라보면서 기도했다. 하나님께서 얼마나 기뻐하셨겠는가. 사자굴에 가서도 사자의 입을 봉하는 역사가 나타났다.
행 2:1-2 오순절날이 이미 이르매 저희가 다 같이 한곳에 모였더니. 2 홀연히 하늘로 부터 급하고 강한 바람 같은 소리가 있어 저희 앉은 온 집에 가득하며
오순절 날이 이미 이르렀다는 것은 하나님께서 기다리시고 기다리셨던 날이 왔다는 것이다. 이 기다림은 우리 인간이 기다리는 것보다 하나님께서 기다리셨던 시간이다. 왜냐. 하나님께서 우리에게 주실 축복을 마음껏 준비하시고 기다리고 기다리시다가 부어주시는 날인 것이다. 그들이 한 곳에 모였을 때 풀어주셨다. 마가다락방 교회에 성령을 폭포수처럼 부어주셨다. 그래서 온 집에 가득하게 불과 바람같은 역사가 일어났다. 마가다락방 교회에 임한 성령을 통해서 전 세계가 살아났다. 제가 서론에서도 말씀드렸습니다만 분명한 것은 어느 교회든지, 특히 우리 언약가진 교회는 복음을 전할 때 성령을 역사가 일어난다. 정말로 누리는 여러분들 되시기 바란다.
3) 237 살릴 영적 콘텐츠
영적 콘텐츠를 어떻게 가져야하는가. 출애굽할 때 양의 피를 바를 때 모두가 구원받았다. 양의 피라는 것은 그리스도를 상징한다. 그리스도가 선포될 때 반드시 역사가 나타난다. 애굽 백성들이 해방을 받았던 것 처럼 그리스도가 선포되는 순간에 모든 막혔던 문이 열릴 줄로 믿는다. 분명한 사실이다. 민수기 17:18에 보면 성전 안에 돌비와 아론의 싹난 지팡이와 만나가 들어있다고 나온다. 돌비는 말씀되신 예수님을 의미한다. 아론의 싹난 지팡이는 부활하신 예수님을 나타낸다. 만나는 생명되신 주님을 나타낸다. 그 안에 있는 모든 것은 다 그리스도를 상징한다. 이스라엘 백성들이 모든 문제를 갖고 와서 예배를 드릴 때 문제가 해결되었던 것이 그리스도를 통해서 해결된 것이다. 다시 말씀드리면 그리스도가 모든 문제의 해답이라는 것을 성경을 통해 할 수 있다. 구원의 대한 확실한 언약을 잡고 그리스도를 붙잡게 되면 확실한 콘텐츠를 붙잡을 수 있다. 우리가 절대언약과 그리스도를 잡게되면 모든 응답의 문이 열릴 것이다. 핵심 콘텐츠를 미션을 잡는 순간에 영적인 통신망이 움직이기 시작한다. 그렇다면 어떤 문제도 치유되는 놀라운 역사가 나타날줄로 믿는다.
결론
행27:24 바울아 두려워하지 말라 네가 가이사 앞에 서야 하겠고 또 하나님께서 너와 함께 항해하는 자를 다 네게 주셨다 하였으니
사도바울이 잡고 있었던 것은 정확한 하나님의 계획인 언약을 잡고 있었기 때문이다. 로마도 보아야하리라. 세계복음화의 언약을 잡고 있었다. 예수님이 그리스도라는 사실을 분명히 잡고 있었다. 어떤 문제도 해결되었다. 이 언약 잡고 그리스도를 붙들고 있는 한 어떤 문제도 문제될 것이 없다 . 어떤 질병도 문제될 것이 없다. 어떤 경제적인 문제도 문제될 것이 없다. 그 언약을 위해서 반드시 해결해주실 줄로 믿는다. 콘텐츠를 잡고 주님앞에 기도하게 될 때 놀라운 영적 통신망이 열리는 축복을 받는 여러분 되시기를 축원한다.
A New Covenant by the Blood of Christ (Hebrews 8:7-9)

“7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: 'Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.' ”
Introduction
Thank you. There is a dentist that I am communicating with and having Bible study with. And, not to long ago, I had a conversation with him and he said that he is having worship service online but people around him are losing strength. All of his church members are losing strength. We did have online worship services as well in the past and when we were doing that, senior deaconess Ha asked when we will start having physical worship service at church. She said that she was losing strength. Without having forum, I am sure it is getting hard. I realized that we needed to restore physical worship services right after our church construction ended. Why is there is such a big difference? People say that they are losing strength when they give online worship services, why is there such a difference? It is because the posture and attitude of the person before worship makes the difference. When you come and gather together at church versus when you are at home listening to online sermon, makes a huge difference. It is fundamentally different. What is more important is that there is an important fact here. When we gather together and listen to the word of God physically at church, there are great works of the heavenly forces at work when we give worship. Realistically speaking, we can experience the heavenly forces of the Holy Spirit at work. When we give online worship services, it is similar to the level of a Bible study, you only get to realize the word of God. You may say that there are people who have no choice but to give online worship services but there is a way to make it different. When you give worship at home, you need to set the correct posture and attitude as if you are at church physically giving worship. When you give worship at home, you need to stand up with the rest of the congregation when they stand and give a sincere mindset and heart when you give an offering. What is more important is that when the message is over, you have a time of forum. As we are giving worship service, it doesn’t end with the worship service but the heavenly armies, angels, and the royal throne of God are with us and at work when we give worship. Works are realistically taking place during worship. Through today’s sermon, may you receive great grace.
1. The Old Covenant and the New Covenant
1) The first covenant
Today’s passage is very important.
Verse 7 - It is talking about the law, the first covenant. We need to examine the law once again. There are three types of law. The first law is the moral law, the civil law, and ceremonial law. The first law, the moral law is talking about the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments were given directly to mankind from God through the stone tablets. The 10 commandments were not only given to the Israelites but it was the word of God that God was giving to His children. Even though the 10 commandments were given to Moses first, it wasn’t given only to the Israelites but also to the people of the covenant. We can break up the 10 commandments in two parts. The first part is talking about the relationship of mankind with God. The rest is talking about relationships with others. The relationship with God is talking about the way to give worship through commandments 1-7. The 6-10 commandments are talking about the interpersonal relationships you form with others. This is talking about the way you should live your life in this world.
Romans 3:20 (“Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”) - Through the law, you can discover your sin. For example, the commandments 1-3 talks about worship. This applies to all things. Those who don’t give worship to God, you are committing sin. This is the same judgment that God gives to those who don’t give worship to God. If you don’t worship God, then you are in the midst of sin. There are people among non-believers who are genuinely good people and do good deeds but even if they do all of those good things, if they don’t give worship to God, then they are people who have nothing to do with God. If we don’t believe in Jesus, then we will go to hell. This helps us realize this.
The second law is the civil law. God gave us the 10 commandments to help us maneuver and regulate our lives, this summarizes the civil law. The law that God gave to Moses was the law that would fit and tailor to the people living during Moses’ time. They made 613 laws that they needed to live by. They had 248 laws that wrote what they must do and the rest, 365 laws on what they should not do. Why did they have 248 laws that told them what to do? It is because mankind has approximately 206 bones in the human body so that means we should move our entire bodies to keep those laws. There are 365 laws on what not to do. There are 365 days in a year so every single day, you need to imprint the word of God in your daily life. Why must you imprint the word of God into your life? The reason why Adam and Eve failed was because they disobeyed God’s word and because of that, destruction came upon mankind. When the word of God is absolutely imprinted in us, then the word of God will eternally live in our lives but since mankind disobeyed the word of god, destruction came upon us. That is why every single day, for 365 days, there were laws of God written on what man must not do. The Israelites and the Jews strictly kept these laws because God told them not to do it. God told them to keep the word of God imprinted in them at all times, to even write them their foreheads, doors, and on their bodies. The Bible tells us to not to lose hold of the word of God for 24 hours a day.
Then lastly, there is the ceremonial law. It shows us what traditions we must keep to give worship to God. It shows us what kind of heart we must have when we give worship to God. It records precisely on how mankind should give worship to God. The first law showed flaws. What does it mean that it had flaws?
Galatians 3:24 (“Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”) - A young student, when you teach them, you want to teach them to underhand the law very easily so the law was made and recorded so that even young, elementary students could understand and keep them but the Jews failed to keep them. Why was that? It was because the fundamental corruptions and sins of mankind imprinted within their nature could not be changed with the law. That was why the new covenant was given to mankind. Even though mankind failed, God did not become disappointed in us and in order to save us, He set up a plan and gave us a new covenant. We should be thankful to God. It was as a level for an elementary student but man couldn’t understand so God simplified it for us and gave us a new covenant.
2) The New Covenant
Verse 8 -
Matthew 5:17 (“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”) - The law was given to mankind but the wicked nature of mankind could not be changed. That is why God decided to give us a new covenant. That is why God changed the covenant and gave us a new covenant.
Luke 22:20 (“Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.' ”) - This was what Jesus Christ said. God gave us a new covenant by having Jesus’ blood shed for us. This new covenant would be fulfilled and completed by Jesus Christ dying on the cross. This shows the endless love of God for us. When I looked at the word, I realized that God was never disappointed in us but continued to show us His endless love through His new covenant.
2. God's Love
1) "Took them by the hand"
Verse 9 - This is a very interesting passage. What kind heart do you have when you hear this? He took us by the hand. If you look at the way the words are formed and structured here, it was written to show the similarity of someone holding the hands of a young child that is learning how to walk. A young child who is learning how to walk are wobbly on their feet but God has guided and led us by His hand. He has led His people to the land of Canaan. He gave them the gift of the land. How amazing is this?
The covenant was given to mankind to make it easy for even elementary students to understand. When people ask how they should keep the law, the people who ask this question are people who don’t obey the law and live according to their own desires and wants. Like a young child, if you hold onto and listen to what your parents say, your life will turn out better. In a similar way, when we hold onto and take God’s word with a pure heart, then God will do it for us and make things work.
Deuteronomy 28:1 (“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.”) - If you keep God’s commandments, then He said that He will set us high above all nations. This was not the word that was only given to the Jews but when we take hold of God’s word and obey it, then God promised that we will stand as the summits who will be high above all nations. It is so easy for us to become a summit. It is not something you do by trying hard but if you obey God’s word then God will raise you up as a summit. If you have problems, you may try really hard to solve them but God uses a completely different method. God is saying that He will do it. He will solve it. But what did the Jews do? It says in the passage today that they did not continue God’s covenant and God disregarded them. God disregarded them. Just follow God’s word but they ended up following idols instead. They thought that worshipping idols would be more beneficial and rewarding for them than by worshipping God so they drew farther away from God’s word. That is why God said that He disregarded them. What was the result? The Israelite nation became colonized by the land of Assyria and ended up in complete destruction. A few barely survived but the entire land of the Israelites were completely destroyed. The northern region of Judah was completely destroyed by 586 BC. They lived as slaves for 70 years. The descendants of King David, the kings after King David all faced complete destruction and died pitiful and horrible deaths like their eyes being gouged out. During the age of Babylon, the death of King Zedekiah showed that the lines of the kings of David, the line that will bring forth physical kings was over and has ended. Until the coming of Jesus Christ, there was no king that came from the line of King David, the line of kings had completely ended. It was such an unfortunate event. These are the things that came upon mankind but God continued to keep His covenant until the end. It is very interesting. Mankind disregarded God’s word completely. God promised them blessings and kept His covenant till the end. We should be so thankful.
2) Restoration by Christ
Matthew 1:20-23 (“But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.' 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 'Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,' which is translated, 'God with us.' ”) - It is written here, “Joseph, son of David”, this means that destruction was supposed to fall upon mankind and the line of King David but God appeared before man to show that He will fulfill the promise to send the True King through the line of David. God promised the eternal king through the offspring of King David.
Matthew 1:21 - This is a very important message. This shows us that Jesus Christ will uphold His role as the True Priest and that He will not come through the line of the Levites but as promised in Psalms 110:4. With that promise, God promised to send us His Son. It was to fulfill the message that the True Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God will be promised and sent through the order of Melchizedek. This Christ will forgive all of our sins.
Matthew 1:23 - The covenant that was promised in the Old Testament in Isaiah 7:14, God fulfilled that promise by sending us the Son of God. What can we hold onto from here? God’s word will absolutely be fulfilled no matter what. Mankind may disobey and disregard God’s word but God will never forget His word. Even though mankind may break promises, God will never break His promises to us. Jesus Christ died on the cross, resurrected, and ascended to sit on the right side of the throne of God. What kind of person sits on the right side of the throne of God?
It explains in Matthew 28:18-19 (“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”) - Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God and is always with us and fulfilling His word. This is the absolute assurance. Even now, He is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God. We have received the New Year’s message to enjoy the authority of the throne of God. Jesus has all of the authority of heaven and earth. With that authority, He has this great authority and power of heaven and Earth. God has blessed us with a great mission for the world.
3. The Field and the Answers
1) Spiritual network
Revelation 8:4-5 (“And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.”) - From the headquarters message, it said that there is a spiritual network. Revelation 8:4 - “With the prayers of the saints'' - When we pray, the angels take our prayers and take it up to heaven. This then allows our prayers to go before God. When God hears our prayers, He will make a decision and take the answers to be given to us. This is what we call a spiritual network. Let us apply this simply to our lives. We all have a cell phone carrier and I use T-mobile. Through T-mobile, it connects us to satellites to connect us with phone calls so that wherever you go, you can connect with anyone with our cell phones. There is no physical line but you can still call someone even if they live all the way in Korea or other countries. This is how the world communicates. With the spiritual eyes, that we cannot see, there is a spiritual network at work. We need to understand this. When we pray with the word of God, then all our prayers are being taken up by the angels. Also all of the heavenly forces are at work and Jesus who is sitting at the right hand of God is listening to our prayers. This is the influence that is at work which breaks down all darkness and shining a tremendous light. The moment we pray, just like when we call someone, someone is able to pick up the phone immediately; when we pray, the spiritual works are at work immediately. Do you believe in this? You need to believe in this. The living God is listening to our prayers and answering us. We have received a very important message. The church is also part of a spiritual network.
2) The church is a spiritual network
When they gave worship in the Old Testament, a spiritual fire was always lit inside the tabernacle. The same thing, when we give worship at church, the same works are at work as well. What is absolute is that when we give worship and the pastor speaks, great spiritual and heavenly forces are at work. When Jesus listens to our worship, God works to save and revive our pastor, church members, church officers, and the remnants. The work of saving our church and church members takes place through the worship service.
Daniel 6:10 (“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”) - Daniel was taken as a captive but it said that he knelt down and prayed facing towards the temple of God. Imagine how happy God must’ve been. Even though he was thrown into a lion’s den, a great miracle took place.
Acts 2:1-2 (“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.”) - “When the day of the Pentecost came” - This was what God was waiting for. This was the time that God was waiting for. This is because there are great blessings that God has prepared for us and He is waiting to bless us during the time of worship. How can we receive those blessings? When they came together in one accord, in one place. Then, it said that a great and violent wind came from heaven onto them and the great works of fire and wind filled the entire house where they gathered. The Holy Spirit that came upon Mark’s Upper Room ended up saving the entire world. I said this during the introduction but what is absolute is that, whatever church it is, a church that holds onto the covenant, when they proclaim the gospel, great works of the Holy Spirit will take place. Truly enjoy this. If that is so, then we must hold onto the spiritual content. We need to examine this.
3) Spiritual content to save the 237 nations
When they went through the Exodus, the Israelites poured the blood onto their doorpost and they were all saved. That blood represented Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ proclaimed, great works will absolutely take place. Just like how the Israelites were liberated, the same work of liberation and freedom takes place when we proclaim the name of Jesus. This is an absolute fact.
Numbers 17:10 (“And the Lord said to Moses, 'Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as a sign against the rebels, that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.' ”) - Inside the temple, there were the stone tablet, Aaron’s rod, and manna. The tablet is representing Jesus Christ, the word of God. The rod of Aaron is representing the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The manna represents life, the life that Jesus gave through His death and resurrection. This is all representing Jesus Christ. What was the reason why the Israelites were able to receive answers during the time of worship was because they were able to experience the works of Christ at work. Jesus is the Christ the answer to all of our problems, we can expense this truth through the worship service. What we need to hold onto is the assurance of salvation and the assurance of the covenant of Jesus Christ. When we hold onto the absolute covenant of Jesus Christ, doors will open for you. When you hold onto the spiritual content as your mission then the doors to save 237 nations will take place. If that is so, then great works of healing will take place though you.
Conclusion
May we hold onto once again Acts 27:24 (“Saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.' ”) - What Paul held onto was the correct and accurate covenant and the plan of God. You must go to Rome. He held onto the covenant of world evangelism. What he absolutely held onto was the truth that Jesus is the Christ. Whatever problem came to him was solved. When you hold onto this covenant and Jesus Christ, then no problem is a problem for you. No matter what disease comes upon you, it is not a problem. No financial problem will be a problem for you. Though the covenant of God, God will absolutely give you an answer. We need to hold onto the spiritual content and pray, then God will open great doors for us. Today, may you place your hand on an area that is sick and if you are not sick, then hold onto your prayer topics and pray. What is absolute is that God will answer you. May you pray with the power of the Holy Spirit and pray that you will be healed.
