“하나님의 징계를 통한 네가지 치유”

“무릇 징계가 당시에는 즐거워 보이지 않고 슬퍼 보이나 후에 그로 말미암아 연달한 자에게는 의의 평강한 열매를 맺나니 그러므로 피곤한 손과 연약한 무릎을 일으켜 세우고 너희 발을 위하여 곧은 길을 만들어 저는 다리로 하여금 어그러지지 않고 고침을 받게 하라” (히브리서 12:11-13)
서론
제가 한 칼럼을 보았다. 한 아버지가 아들에게 야단을 치고 있었다. “솔직히 말해라, 네가 돈을 훔쳤지?” 하고 아버지가 물어보았다. 아들이 “아닙니다, 아버지 저는 돈을 훔치지 않았아요” 라고 대답 한다. 그에 아버지가 “정말이냐?” 하며 아들의 몸을 구석구석 뒤지며 돈을 찾았다. 그런데 아무것도 없는것이다. 아버지는 또 이야기 한다. “그러면 너, 구두를 한번 벗어봐라”. 거기에 아들이 다리를 다쳐서 구두를 벗지 못한다 했고 아버지는 잔소리 하지 말고 당장 벗으라 했다. 그러니 그 안에 돈이 들어있었다. 이게 뭐냐 하며 아버지가 책망을 하고 아들은 정말 잘못했어요 다시는 이런짓 하지 않을게요 라고 빌었다. 이렇게 시작한 이 아이는 16살이 되면서 부터 더욱 더 타락 하기를 시작했다. 남에게 해를 끼치기도 하고 사기를 치기도 하고 술먹고 방탕한 삶을 살아갔다. 그런데 그것을 하나님이 다 보고 계셨다. 하나님은 그를 가만히 두지 않으셨다. 결국 그는 사기죄로 고발당해 감옥소에 5주 동안 감금 되었다. 하나님께서는 탕자도 끝까지 사랑 하셨다. 드디어 그는 예수님을 만나게 되었다. 그는 눈물을 흘리며 고백했다. 하나님, 드디어 제가 오늘밤 하나님의 것이 되었습니다 하고 고백했다. 이 사람이 바로 고아의 아버지라 불리우는 조지 뮬러 목사님이다. 이 탕자가 변해 오만번의 응답을 받는 최고의 기도의 응답의 능력자가 되었다.
본론
1. 하나님의 징계의 목적 The goal of God's discipline
1) 의와 평강의 열매 The fruit of righteousness and peace
히 Hebrews 12:11
사 Isaiah 43:7, 48:11, 17
징계라는 것은 오늘 11절에 말씀과 마찬가지로, “무릇 징계가 당시에는 즐거워 보이지 않고 슬퍼 보이나 그로 막미암아 연단 받은 자들은 의와 평강의 열매를 맺느니라”. 하나님께서는 끝까지 하나님의 자녀들에게 의와 평강의 열매를 맺기위해 사랑으로 징계 하신다. 말씀에 나타나고 있다. 이사야 43:7 말씀 보게 되면 내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자, 곧 내가 영광을 위하여 창조한 자를 오게 하라 그를 내가 이었고 그를 내가 만들었느니라” 라고 나와있다. 여기에 놀라운 말씀이 있다. “내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자” 라고 말씀 하고 있다. 다시 말씀 드리면 예수 이름 부르는 모든 자를 이야기를 하고 있는것이다. 예수 이름을 부르는 저와 여러분 모두가 하나님의 영광을 위하여 창조한 자 라고 말씀 하고있다. 그를 내가 지었고 그를 내가 만들었느니라. 우리 하나님께서는 이 말씀을 아주 자랑스럽게 하고 계신다. 이 말씀을 들을때마다 얼마나가 감사와 감격이 나오는지 모른다. 나처럼 부족하고 연약한 자가 하나님의 영광을 위해 창조된 자라니. 저와 여러분이 창조된 것이 하나님의 영광을 위해서 라는 말이다. 그런데 왜 징계가 필요하나 이것이다. 그런 축복을 받고 우리가 창조되었음에도 불구하고 자꾸만 넘어지고 있다. 영광 돌리지 못하고 자꾸만 하나님을 실망 시키고 있다. 그래서 하나님께서 말씀 하신다. 사48:12에 말씀 하신다. “나는 나를 위하여 이를 이룰것이라 어찌 내 이름을 욕되게 하리요 내 영광을 다른 자에게 주지 아니하리라” 우리가 살아가며 자꾸만 사단에게 속고 당하고 있으니 하나님께서 진노하시며 하시는 말씀이다, 내가 나를 위하여 반드시 이루리라, 이 말씀이시다. “어찌 내 이름을 욕되게 하리요 내 영광을 다른 자에게 주지 아니하리라”. 하나님께서 영광을 받으시게 하기 위해 창조된 우리가 당하고 있으니 하나님께서 내가 내 영광을 반드시 찾겠다 라며 하시는 말씀이다. 세상에 속아 사는 우리를 징계 라는 방법을 통해 이루어 나가시는것이다. 어떠한 방법으로 하시나, 이사야 48:17, “너희의 구속자시요 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이이신 여호와께서 이르시되 나는 네게 유익하도록 가르치고 너를 마땅히 행할 길로 인도하는 네 하나님 여호와라". 나는 네 구속자 이지 않냐, 내가 너를 내 자녀 삼지 않았냐. 그러니 네가 지금 부족 하더라도 내가 너를 가르치고 너를 마땅히 행할 길로 인도하겠다 이 말씀이다. 얼마나 감격스럽나.
2. 네가지 치유 Four types of healing
1) 피곤한 손을 치유 Healing the hands which hang down
히 Hebrews 12:12
마 Matthew 6:25, 32-33
하나님께서는 우리를 그냥 두지 않으시고 친히 가르치시고 마땅히 행할길로 인도 하신다. 왜 그렇나, 11절 마지막과 마찬가지로 의와 평강의 열매를 맺게 하기 위해서 이다. 이것을 이루시기 위해 오늘 본문 말씀 보니 네가지 방법을 통해 네가지 문제에 빠지는 자들을 치유하겠다 하셨다. 지금 우리가 속아 살고 있는데 그 상태를 보며 하나하나 골라서 친히 치유해 나가시겠다 이 말씀이다. 11-13에 네가지가 나오는데, 그러므로 피곤한 손과 연약한 무릎을 일으켜 세우고, 피곤한 손을 먼저 치유 하시겠다는 말씀이다. 징계를 통해서 너의 피곤한 손을 내가 치유하겠다 이 말씀이다. 피곤한 손이 무엇을 말하나, 이 손은 오늘 보게 되면 불구가 된 마비게 된 뻣뻣한 손을 말한다. 영적으로 본다면 하나님의 일을 도저히 할수 없는 상태를 말하는것이다. 왜 하나님 앞에서 하나님 일을 하지 못하고 있으신가. 마태복음 6:25 말씀 보게 되면 “그러므로 내가 너희에게 이르노니 목숨을 위하여 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 몸을 위하여 무엇을 입을까 염려하지 말라 목숨이 음식보다 중하지 아니하며 몸이 의복보다 중하지 아니하냐", 하나님의 일 하지 못하는 이유가 먹을것, 마실것, 입을것의 염려 때문 이라는것이다. 내가 놀면, 주일날 교회당에 나가 예배 드리면 먹을것, 마실것, 입을것 얻지 못하고 영향이 갈까 걱정에 하나님의 일을 못 하는거다. 사람들을 보면 먹을것, 마실것 입을것 때문에 모든 건강까지 해치며 일을 한다. 이 의식주 때문에 생명까지 바치며 일을 한다. 오늘 말씀은 거기에 속지 말라는것이다. 이 마지막 말씀은, “목숨이 음식보다 중하지 아니하며 몸의 오복보다 중하지 아니하냐" 어찌 네 생명 걸고 먹을것 마실것 입을것을 위해 사냐, 목숨이 그보다 중요하지 않느냐 이 말씀이다. 그러면서 마 6:32 말씀에, “이는 다 이방인들이 구하는 것이라 너희 하늘 아버지께서 이 모든것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라” 라고 되어있다. 그건 이방인들 안믿는 사람들이 하는 고민이야, 너희는 그런것들 할 필요 없어 이말씀 이다. 그리고 주님께서 또 말씀 하신다 너희는 공중의 새를 봐라, 창고가 있냐, 백합화를 보아라 누가 그것을 입혀줬냐, 이 말씀을 하신다 (마6:26-28). 참 중요성을 깨닫게 하시기 위해 하시는 말씀이다. 너 그렇게 살면 죽어, 네 목숨이 중요한거야 - 이렇게 깨닫게 하시려는것이다. 그러면서 마태복음 6:33 에 이야기 하고 계신다, “그런즉 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라”. 너희들이 진짜 구해야 될것은 너희의 진짜 생명을 놓고 기도하는것이다, 라는 말이다.이것을 깨닫지 못하기 때문에 자꾸만 문제 주시는것이다. 정말 아버지를 좀 믿어라 하시는 것이다.
2) 연약한 무릎을 치유 Healing the feeble knees
요 John 16:24
롬 Romans 8:26
두번째 말씀은 연약한 무릎을 치유 하신다 라고 하셨다. 연약한 무릎 역시 불구가 된 무릎을 말한다. 먼 길을 가는데 낙타가 무릎이 불구가 되면 가치가 없다. 사람도 무릎이 불구가 되면 생활이 힘들다. 이것을 너희가 치유 받아야 한다 이 말씀이다. 다시 말씀 드리면 하나님 자녀가 기도의 무릎이 불구가 되어버리면 신앙생활이 힘들어진다 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 기도의 무릎이 불구가 되어버리면 하나님의 자녀가 되었음에도 기도가 두려워진다. 기도가 무서워진다. 그렇게 되면 하나님께서는 기도하게 하기 위해서 징계를 주신다. 이미 하나님의 자녀는 기도의 축복을 받았단 말이다. 요 16:24 말씀 보면, “지금 까지는 너희가 내 이름으로 아무 것도 구하지 아니하였으나 구하라 그리하면 받으리니 너희 기쁨이 충만하리라”. 더 중요한 말씀이 롬 8:26 이다, “이와 같이 성령도 우리의 연약함을 도우시나니 우리는 마땅히 기도할 바를 알지 못하나 오직 성령이 말할수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 친히 간구하시느니라." 이 말씀을 잘못 이해하면 성령이 하늘 보좌, 하나님의 우편에서 우리를 위해 간구 하시는것으로 생각 할수 있다. 여기서 이야기 하는것은 내 안에 계신 보혜사 성령을 말하는거다. 키 포인트가 성령이 내 안에 계신다는 말이다. 그 분께서 내가 기도할때 내 안에서 계속 기도 할수 있도록 도우신다는 말씀이다. 제가 이것을 깊이 체험한적이 있다. 제가 한 40년도 더 되었을때 일이다. 직장 다닐때 스페인 정부의 초청으로 스페인을 방문 한적이 있다. 그때 사람들이 나와서 구경을 시켜 주는데 그러다가 톨레도 라는 성당에 가게 되었다. 구경을 다 하고 난 뒤에 옆에 가보니 철장을 쳐져 있고 그 안에 성자들, 믿음 좋은 사람들의 동상이 세워져 있는데 그 동상들 아래 바닥에 동전들이 떨어져 있는것이다. 그래서 저 동전들이 다 무엇입니까 물었다. 아들 없는 사람들이 아들 낳기 위해 기도할때 돈을 던지며 하는것이다 라고 했다. 내가 그걸 보고 얼마나 충격을 받았는지 모른다, 카톨릭도 완전히 절간과 다를바 없네 생각했다. 호텔에 와서 가만히 앉아있는데 마음속에 분이 나는거다. 그때 내가 교회 집사를 했을때다. 그래서 그대로 그자리에 엎드려 기도했다. 기도 하는데 눈물이 나는거다. 그 당시 뭘 잘 모르면서도 “하나님 저들을 불쌍히 여기시고 살려주시라” 기도했다. 한시간 정도 기도 하다가 하나님, 내가 저들을 살릴수 있도록 도와달라 기도했다. “하나님 저는 성경을 잘 모르니 성경좀 알게 해주시고 저들을 살릴수 있게 도와주세요” 하며 한시간 정도 울면서 기도한 기억이 있다. 그 뒤로 시간이 조금 지나고 보니 하나님께서 신학교로 나를 인도하시고 여기까지 오게 하신것이다. 요즘 우리 교회가 중남미 선교사님을 후원하며 선교 하고 있다. 우리가 선교 하는것도 그때에 하나님께서 내게 주신 기도제목과 무관하지 않다는 생각이 든다. 그런데 뭔가, 내가 기도 하는데 성당과 나랑 전혀 관계가 없음에도 불구하고 눈물의 기도를 한게 성령께서 내게 그 마음 주신것 아닌가. 성령께서 말할수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 간구하시는것이 바로 이것이구나 하는 마음이 들었다. 이것은 저만이 느낀것이 아니라 여러분도 다 느낄수 있는것이다. 여러분이 기도할때 하나님께서 나와 함께 계시고 나를 기도하게 하시는구나 하는 영적인 교감을 느끼지 못하시나. 기도중에 나도 모르게 하나님과 직접 대화가 되어지는것을 느끼시지 않는가. 그것이 바로 여러분 속에 성령이 계신 증거이다. 여러분들이 말씀 붙잡고 기도하고 묵상하게 되면 보좌의 능력이 나타난다.
3) 저는 다리를 치유 Healing lame legs
히 Hebrews 12:13
롬 Romans 10:15
엡 Ephesians 6:15
세번째로 저는 다리를 치유한다 하셨다. 너희 발을 위하여 곧은 길을 만들어 저는 다리를 치유하라 라고 되어있다. 이 저는 다리라 함은, 다친 다리, 마비가 된 다리 를 나타낸다. 이 다리로는 인생의 마라톤, 믿음의 마라톤을 할수가 없다. 여러분, 이것을 치유 받으셔야 한다는 말씀이다. 중요한 이야기 하고있다, “너희 발을 위하여 곧은 길을 만들라" 라고 되어있다. 이 발을 치유 받는데, 이것이 무엇을 의미하나 이것이다. 롬 10:15 에, “보내심을 받지 아니하였으면 어찌 전파하리요 기록된바 아름답도다 좋은 소식을 전하는 자들의 발이여 함과 같으니라" 생명을 살리는 전도의 발을 의미한다. 신앙생활 하는데 전도와 전혀 관계 없는 삶을 산다? 하나님 께서는 깨닫게 하기 위해서 징계를 주신다. 그런데 “발을 위하여 곧은 길을 만들라” 라고 되어있다. 발에는 필요한것이 신발이다. 엡 6:15 에 보면 “평안의 복음이 준비한것으로 신을 신고" 라고 되어있다. 중요한 말씀이다, “평안의 복음이 준비한 것으로”, 그냥 전도하러 나가는것이 아니라 복음으로 준비하고 편집을 한뒤 그것을 붙잡고 나아가라 이 말이다. 그냥 나가서 예수 믿으세요 이리 오세요 이것이 아니라는 말이다. 분명히 주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들 이시니이다 고백 할수 있는 준비를 해야 한다는것이다. 이것이 저는 다리를 치유한다 라는 의미다.
4) 어그러진 길을 치유 Healing the crooked path
히 Hebrews 12:2
네번째로 어그러진 길을 치유 한다, 이것은 잘못된 신앙의 길을 의미한다. 잘못된 길로 가고 있거나 잘못된 신앙을 가지고 있을때 하나님은 징계 하신다. 왜, 잘못된 길로 가서 망하면 안되니까. 히브리서 12:2 에 분명히 이야기 하고 있다, “믿음의 주여 온전하게 하시는 이 인 예수를 바라보자 그는 그 앞에 있는 기쁨을 위하여 십자가를 참으사 부끄러움을 개의치 아니하시더니 하나님 보좌 우편에 앉으셨느니라.” 이 말씀의 의미를 잘 받으셔야 한다. “믿음의 주여 온전케 하시는 이인 예수” 라고 말씀하고 있다. 예수님의 십자가로서 부활 하시며 우리의 구원을 완전하게 이루신 분 이라는것이다. 우리의 구원은 100% 구원이지 50% 구원이 아니다. 이 구원을 위해서 예수님께서 십자가에 못박혀 죽으셨다는 말이다. 예수님의 죽으심은 100% 죽음 이었다, 완전한 죽음 이었다. 그래서 완전히 살아나셨다. 그래서 지금 어디에 계시나, 그 증거로 하나님의 보좌 우편에 앉아계신다, 우리가 이것을 확실히 잡아야겠다. 오늘 뮬러의 이야기를 들었다. 그는 40년 동안 고아들을 돌보았다. 그것도 2,000명이나 돌보았다. 그가 먹을것이 없어 직장에 나가 일 한 적이 없다. 오직 기도를 통해 응답 받은것이다. 건물을 다섯채나 지었다. 다 기도로 한것이다. 어떻게 그것이 가능한가. 뮬러는 100% 하나님을 믿고 의지한것이다. 하나님은 무엇을 원하시나, 이렇게 100%를 원하신다. 세상 반, 하나님 반이 아니다. 100% 나를 믿으면 내가 네게 100%로 주마, 이 증거가 바로 조지 뮬러에게 나타난것이다. 그럴때 하나님께서 뮬러에게 보좌의 축복 쏱아부으신것이다. 이 축복 여러분이 받기를 바란다. 우리에게 바라시는것은 100%의 믿음이다. 그러면 내가 뮬러처럼 100%의 축복을 네게 주겠다 하실거다. 뮬러가 길거리 다니며 홈리스처럼 구걸하고 다니지 않았다. 기도를 통해서 앉은 그 자리에서 다 받았다. 여러분이 100% 믿음이 되어 버리면 하나님께서 하늘 보좌에 허락된 축복 다 부워주실줄을 믿는다.
3. Heavenly Blessing
1) Heavenly Power
막 Mark 16:17-18
보좌의 축복 세가지를 말하고 있다. 먼저 우리에게 주시는 하나님의 축복이다, 첫째로 하늘에서 오는 권세를 주신다. 마가복음 16:17-18, “믿는 자들에게는 이런 표적이 따르리니 곧 그들이 내 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아내며 새 방언을 말하며 뱀을 집어올리며 무슨 독을 마실지라도 해를 받지 아니하며 병든 사람에게 손을 얹은즉 나으리라 하시더라” 어마어마 하지 않나. 아무것도 아닌 내가 믿는 자에게 표적을 하나님이 주시는것이다. 예수 이름으로 하면 귀신을 쫒아진다고 한다, 병든 사람에게 손을 얹으면 낫는다고 말한다. 다시 말하면 세상의 흑암을 이길수 있는 왕적 권세를 너희에게 주겠다 이것이다. 이것을 여러분 모두 이미 받으신줄을 믿는다.
2) Heavenly Talent
행 Acts 4:12
두번째는 하나님께 하늘로 부터 주어지는 달란트가 있다는것이다. 하나님 자녀라면 누구나 달란트를 가졌다. 베드로를 보면, 우리가 알기로 그의 달란트는 고기를 잡는것이다. 베드로도 아마 자기의 달란트가 고기를 잡는것이라고 생각 했을것같다. 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 그것이 네 달란트가 아니라 하는것이다, 나를 따라 오라, 그러면 내가 너로 사람 낚는 어부로 만들겠다 하시는것이다. 베드로는 참 전도자였다. 행 4:12에 “다른 이로써는 구원을 받을수 없나니 천하 사람중에 구원을 받을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이라” 라고 베드로가 고백했다. 배운것 없는 베드로가 이러한 어마어마한 달란트를 받은것이다. 그렇게 선지자 직분을 감당하고 수많은 사람들을 주님앞으로 인도하는 축복을 받은거다.
3) Heavenly Mission
요 John 20:22-23
뿐만 아니라, 우리가 100% 하나님을 의존 하기 때문에 주어지는 하늘로 부터 내려지는 축복이 무엇인가? 바로 하늘로 부터 내려지는 미션이다. 요 20:22-23 에 부활하신 주님께서 말씀 하신다, “이 말씀을 하시고 그들을 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 이르시되 성령을 받으라 너희가 누구의 죄든지 사하면 사하여 질것이요 누구의 죄든지 그대로 두면 그대로 있으리라 하시니라." 저는 이 말씀 생각 할때마다 너무나 기가 막히고 놀랍다는 생각을 한다. 우리가 누구이기에 우리가 죄를 사하면 그들의 사하여지고 가만히 두면 그대로 있는가? 우리에게 이미 어마어마한 제사장의 권세를 주신것이다. 이 축복 정말 누리시기를 바란다. 이것은 이미 여러분에게 주어졌음을 정말로 믿고 누리시라. 정말 누리지 못할때 하나님께서 징계를 통해 깨닫게 하신다. 그때가서 하나님, 아 이제야 깨달았습니다 하지 마시고 미리 깨닫기를 바란다.
결론
롬 Romans 14:17
말씀 맺겠다. 롬 14:17 말씀 붙잡으시라, “하나님의 나라는 먹는 것과 마시는 것이 아니요 오직 성령 안에 있는 의와 평강과 희락이라.” 하나님께서 징계의 목적을 한마디로 자세하게 말씀 한것이다. 사람들은 먹는것 마시는것만 항상 생각하고 있는데 그것이 답이 아니라는 말씀이다. 너희가 정말 누릴 것은 보좌의 축복, 의의 평강과 희락을 누리는것 이라는것이다. 이 축복을 이 땅에서 누리시는 여러분 되시기를 예수님의 이름으로 축원한다.

“11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.”
Introduction
There was a news article that I read regarding a father who was scolding his son. The father asked the son to be honest and to admit that he stole money but the son kept claiming that he was innocent and did not steal the money. The father started searching his son all over but couldn’t find any money. The father told the son to take off his shoes but the son told his father that he couldn’t take off his shoes because he hurt his feet. Eventually, the son had to take off his shoes but inside of there, there was the stolen money. The father asked the son, what this was and the son pleaded with his father that he will never do this again. This son until the age of 16 lived a corrupted and rebellious life. He continued to steal and commit crimes. But God was watching all of this. God did not leave this son alone and eventually, this son was persecuted as a criminal and was in prison for five weeks. But until the end, God continued to love this son and eventually he was able to meet Jesus. With tears, the son confessed before God that finally this night, I have finally become yours. This son was the famous father of orphans, pastor George Muller. He was one of the greatest people of prayer and received tremendous answers from God.
1. The Goal of God's Discipline
1) The fruit of righteousness and peace
Verse 11 - Until the end, in order to give His fruits and great blessings, God continues to give us chastening.
It is written in the word of God in Isaiah 43:7, 48:11, 17 “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him. 48:11, 17 For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; For how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another. 17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.' ” - This is an astounding message. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord, in other words, anyone who calls the name of Jesus. We were all were created for the glory of God. Our God is saying these Biblical passages with great pride and happiness. When I read these Biblical verses I was so thankful because someone like me who is lacking was created for the glory of God. We were all created to give glory to God. Then, why is it that we need chastening from God? We have received tremendous blessings from God and were created for God’s glory but we are always falling down and giving disappointment to God all the time.
That is why God said in Isaiah 48:11 - We continue to live in this world deceived by Satan and taken advantage of by Satan that God couldn’t stand this anymore so God said that He will do it for His sake. We were created for God’s glory but we live a life deceived by Satan so God said that for His sake, He will bring glory to Himself. Through the method of chastening, God guides us in this world. With what method?
It is written in Isaiah 48:17 - God is saying that He is our redeemer and makes us into His children so even if we are lacking, God will teach and lead us towards the righteous way. How touched should we be? God didn’t leave us behind but God is the God who is willing to teach and guide us towards the righteous way. Why is that? In order to allow us to bear the fruits of righteousness and peace it says in verse 11. In order to fulfill this, God showed the four methods of healing as written in today’s main Biblical scripture.
2. Four Types of Healing
1) Healing the hands which hang down
Verse 12 - We are living a life being deceived but God is showing us the four methods to be healed. God will heal our hands that are hung down; this is talking about stiffened and lethargic hands. If you look at this spiritually, you are in a spiritual state where you can’t do anything before God. Why can’t you do God’s work?
Matthew 6:25, 32-33 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - The reason why we can’t do the work of God is because we are so focused on worrying about what to eat, drink, and wear. You say, if I go to church on Sundays, then how can I focus on enjoying life and focus on what to wear, eat, and drink? If you look in the introduction, because people worry about what to eat, drink, and wear and they end up sacrificing their health. You worry about what to eat, drink, and wear but you end up staking your life for it. But God is saying not to be deceived by this.
Matthew 6:25 - God is saying that our life is more important than clothing. What does this mean? Don’t stake your life on what you need to wear, eat, and drink because your life is more important. This is what God is saying.
Matthew 6:32 - This is what nonbelievers do and how they live their lives. That is why God continues to say that the animals and birds of the air are taken care of, they are given food and water so why wouldn’t God take care of His own children? God is asking you what is important. If you continue to live for the world, then you will perish. Your life is more important. This is what God is trying to tell us.
That is why God said in Matthew 6:33 - What you need to seek is where true life is. If we don’t realize this, then God will continue to give you problems. God is asking you to trust in Him.
2) Healing the feeble knees
Our feeble knees refer to crippled knees. If a camel is walking for a long distance but has feeble knees, then the camel will be worthless. If you have feeble knees, then you will live a hard life. God is saying that we must be healed of this. In other words, children of God who have feeble knees with prayer life, then you will live a difficult spiritual walk of faith. If your knees of prayer become feeble, then you become afraid to pray. You become afraid of prayer. That is why God puts you in situations so that you can pray. God chastens you so that you can pray. As children of God, we have already received the blessing of prayer.
John 16:24 “Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” And another important Bible verse is Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” - If you misinterpret this, you may see this as the Holy Spirit is on standby in heaven, just wanting and waiting to scold us. But the Holy Spirit is inside of us and this Holy Spirit in us is helping us to pray. I have deeply experienced this one time.
40 years ago when I was working in a company in Korea, I had to go on a business trip to Spain and people were giving us a tour of a cathedral. But when we were all done with the tour, there was a statue of saints at the cathedral and there were coins thrown into the statues so I asked the tour guide why those coins were there. The tour guide told me that the coins were thrown in there for people who prayed for a son who didn’t have a son. When I heard that, I was so shocked. I realized that Catholics were no different from Buddhists. When I returned back to my hotel, I felt so frustrated and heavy hearted. Back then, I was a deacon so I started praying to God and I was praying with tears. I asked God to save me and have mercy on me. I was praying for an hour and asking God to help me to save people. I told God that I didn’t know the Bible well so help me to know the Bible and asked God to teach me so that I can save people. I was crying and praying for an hour before God. After a while, God sent me to a seminary school and here I am. Right now, as a church we are able to give missionary offerings to a few missionaries overseas and the fact that we are giving missionary offerings, I truly believe was an answer from God when I prayed back then. The fact that I was praying while crying, this was the heart that the Holy Spirit gave me. I realized that the Holy Spirit truly does move our hearts just as written in Romans 8:26. This doesn’t just apply to me but also applies to you. When you pray, when you experience that God is with you and makes you pray, and allows you to want to pray about something. I am sure that you have all experienced this. I am sure that you are communicating with God and having a relationship with God. This is the proof that the Holy Spirit is inside of you. When you hold onto the word of God and pray, then the blessing of God’s throne will be upon you.
3) Healing lame legs
Verse 13 - The lame legs are talking about legs that are paralyzed and we cannot run the spiritual marathon of faith with lame legs. We must be healed of this, this is what God is telling us. There is something important here. We must make straight paths for our feet. What are the feet referring to?
Romans 10:15 “And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!' ” - The feet is referring to the evangelist’s feet who are saving lives. If we are living a life not focused on saving lives, God will give us situations and chasten us so that we can redirect our paths. God said that He will straighten the paths for our feet.
Ephesians 6:15 “And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” - This is an important message. The gospel of peace prepares our feet. We are not just evangelizing but we are editing and preparing with the gospel, and then going out to the field. We are not just randomly going out to the field telling people to believe in Jesus and to go to church but we are preparing ourselves with the confession of Jesus Christ. We must prepare the message of the confession that Jesus is the Christ. This is how we can heal our lame legs.
4) Healing the crooked path
The crooked path is referring to our incorrect walk of faith. If we live an incorrect walk of faith, God will chasten you. Why? Because God loves you.
Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” - We must hold onto the meaning of this Biblical scripture. Jesus is our author and finisher of our faith. Our salvation was fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross for us. This guaranteed us of our salvation 100%, not 50%. For our salvation, Jesus died on the cross. Jesus’ death was 100%, it was complete and that is why He resurrected completely. Where is Jesus now? He is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God. We must hold onto this. I gave you the example of George Muller in the introduction, for 40 years, he looked after and took care of 2,000 orphans. George Muller had no food but he never got a job so that he could feed the orphans. He received answers by only praying. He was able to establish 5 orphans and this was all possible through prayer. How was this possible? George Muller believed in God 100% and relied on God 100%. What does God want from us? He wants 100% from us. We are not 50% in this world and 50% in God . If we have 100% faith in God, then God will give us 100% answers. When George Muller gave 100% of his faith in God, God gave him 100% answers of God’s throne. This is what God wants from us. Believe in this. If we do this, then God promised us 100% of the answers. George Muller didn’t go around asking for money but he just stood still and prayed, and He received answers. When you believe and have faith 100% then the answer of God’s throne will absolutely be poured upon your life.
3. Heavenly Blessing
1) Heavenly Power
God promised us the heavenly power from above. Mark 16:17-18 “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” - This is astounding. We who are nothing, God promised us signs of miracles, the power to drive out demons through us, and to heal people when we lay our hands on them. In other words, God promised us the power and authority to overcome Satan and darkness. We have already received this. Do you believe in this?
2) Heavenly Talent
Second, there is heavenly talent that God has given to you. Whoever you are as a child of God, God has given you a talent. Look at Peter. Peter’s talent was catching fish, we may think this and Peter probably thought that this was his talent but God told Peter that this was not his talent. Jesus told Peter to follow Him and He will make him fisher of men. And at that moment, Peter became an evangelist.
Acts 4:12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” - This was what Peter confessed. Peter who was not educated at all, he found his talent. That was why he became one of the greatest prophets who was able to lead many people to Christ. When we rely on God 100%, then God will give us His heavenly mission.
3) Heavenly Mission
This Bible verse speaks something amazing. John 20:22-23 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.' ” - When I think about this Bible verse, I am so moved and surprised. Who are we that God uses us to help people receive forgiveness of their sins? God has given us great power and authority as a priest. Hold onto this. This has already been given to us. We must truly enjoy this. If we can’t enjoy this, then through God’s chastening God will help you realize. Don’t eventually realize with chastening but realize in advance and now.
Conclusion
Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” - People of this world are so focused on eating, what to wear, and drinking. But this is not it at all. What we must enjoy is God’s throne, righteousness, peace, and joy that are found in the Holy Spirit. May we enjoy these blessings on this Earth.
