언약가진 자의 누림(행25:1-12)
서론
제가 신문을 봤다. 미국 캘리포니아에 만 오천명 되는 대형 교회에 하베스트 크리스찬 휄로쉽 교회에 있는 제리드 윌슨 목사가 자살했다는 기사를 읽었다. 이 사람은 우울증에 시달려 오다가 이기지 못하고 목숨을 끊었다고 한다. 그런데 그 사람이 자기가 자살 한 그 날에 자살한 성도의 장례식을 인도했다고 한다. 이 목사님의 전문 사역이 정신 건강문제, 특별히 자살 충동 문제를 해결하는 일이었다고 한다. 자살 충동으로 고생하는 사람들을 상담을 하고 많은 사람들을 도와줬다. 그 사람이 얘기하기를 “나는 기독교인이지만 현재 우울증과 싸우고 있다. 이런 일은 분명히 존재하고 있다.” 그 사람이 9월 달에 죽었는데, “9월 달은 자살 예방의 달이다” 하면서 그가 쓴 글에는 “여러분들 모두의 삶이 중요하다는 것을 꼭 알고 지키기 바란다” 하고 얘기했다. 그 글을 남기고 자살을 했다. 참 읽으면서 여러가지 생각을 했다. 사단이라는 것은 대형 교회 목사, 많은 사람의 문제를 상담해주는 목사까지도 넘어뜨릴 수 있구나 했다. 사단은 목사님을 전혀 두려워하지 않는다는 사실이다. 우리는 분명히 잡아야겠다. 목사님도 두려워하지 않는데 성도들에게 사단 뭐 괜찮아 이것이 아니다. 사단이 무엇을 두려워하는가. 오직 그리스도만을 두려워한다. 그래서 우리가 예수 그리스도를 날마다 선포하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지 모른다. 예수 그리스도를 날마다 고백하는 것이 너무 귀중하다. 뿐만 아니라 우리가 하나님 나라를 누려야겠다. 이 그리스도의 언약 속에서 우리가 살아야만이 승리할 수 있다. 성경을 보게되면 주님께서는 언약가지 자를 인도하고 계신다. 오늘 내용에 나타나고 있다.
1. 언약가진 자의 인도
1) 유대인들의 고소
벨릭스가 유대인을 핍박한 관계로 유대인들이 모두 황제에게 찾아가 힘들어 살 수가 없다고 이야기를 했다. 그 이야기를 들은 황제가 벨릭스를 파면시키고 이 후임으로 베스도를 총독으로 세웠다. 베스도가 부임 하자마자 삼일 째 되는 날에 제일 먼저 간 곳이 예루살렘이었다. 황제가 파송했으니 유대인의 인심을 얻기 위해 찾아갔다. 찾아가면 그들의 대제사장들과 지도자들을 만나게된다. 보통 그들과 만나게되면 그들이 요구사항을 많이 얘기하게 된다. 그렇게 되면 그들의 요구사항을 거의 들어주게 되어있다. 베스도 총독이 예루살렘에 오자마자 이 기회를 이용해서 바울을 죽여버리자 한 것이다. 베스도에게 요청한다. 지금 사도바울이 가이사랴 감옥에 있는데 예루살렘에 데려와서 여기서 공정한 재판을 할 수 있게 해달라고 얘기한다. 사실은 재판이 아니라 오는 과정에서 40인 특공대를 사용해 죽여버리려고 했다. 그 이야기를 들은 베스도는 그렇게 하겠다 한 것이 아니라 가이사랴에서 정식으로 고발해라 하고 얘기한다. 그래서 그들의 요구가 묵살이 되어버리고 사도바울이 죽음에서 벗어나는 사건이 생긴다. 유대인들은 가만히 있지 않았다. 베스도가 이야기한데로 같이 가이사랴로 내려갔다.
2) 바울의 상소
베스도가 이야기한데로 같이 가이사랴로 내려갔다. 내려가서 정식으로 바울을 고발하게 되는데 아주 중대한 사건이라고 하면서 고발을 했다. 그러나 능히 증거를 대지 못했다고 나온다. 그런데도 불구하고 베스도는 유대인의 마음을 얻고자하여 그렇다면 나와 같이 예루살렘에 가서 재판을 받겠느냐 하고 또 물어본다. 사도바울은 이미 대제사장들의 계략을 알고있다. 나는 내려가지 않고 가이사 앞에 상소하겠다고 요구를 한다. 베스도가 배심원들과 이야기해서 로마 시민권을 가진 자니까 그의 요청을 따라야한다 하고 네가 가이사 앞에 갈 것이라고 이야기한다. 이것은 간단한 사건 같습니다만 이 과정은 영적으로 굉장히 중요한 의미를 갖고있다.
3) 영적 전쟁
지금 사도바울이 가이사랴 감옥에 들어간지 2년이 지났다. 2년이 지났음에도 대제사장들과 무리들은 호심탐탐 사도바울을 죽이려고 생각하고 있었다. 다시 말씀드리면 이 사단은 언약가진 사도바울을 죽이기 위해서 지속적으로 24시 기회를 엿봤다는 것이다. 사단이 항상 생각하는 것이 있다.
요10:10 도둑이 오는 것은 도둑질하고 죽이고 멸망시키려는 것뿐이요 –
그런데 분명한 것은 하나님도 언약가진 자를 24시 지켜주시고 계신다. 그 내용을 보게되면 베스도가 예루살렘에 내려갔을 때 유대인들이 예루살렘에 사도바울을 데려와달라고 요청했을 때 보통은 그렇게 하는데 지금 베스도는 자기와 같이 가이사랴로 내려가서 재판을 하라고 한다. 순간적으로 베스도가 판단을 내리는데 그의 생각을 하나님께서 주장하신 것이다. 가이사랴 법정에서도 다시 나타난다. 베스도가 여기서 못하고 같이 예루살렘에 내려가자 하고 일방적으로 내려가도 아무 할 말이 없다. 그런데 베스도가 네가 예루살렘에 나와같이 가겠느냐 하고 물어보았다. 그 이야기를 듣고 사도바울은 나는 내려가지 않고 가이사 앞에 직접 상소하겠습니다 했다. 이 모든 과정에서 하나님께서 세밀하게 인도하고 계신 것을 발견할 수 있다. 왜 그런가. 예수님께서 사도바울에 이야기하셨다.
행23:11 그 날 밤에 주께서 바울 곁에 서서 이르시되 담대하라 네가 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증언한 것 같이 로마에서도 증언하여야 하리라 하시니라
주님께서 말씀하신 것을 성취해나가시는 과정인 것이다. 사도바울이 나는 로마도 보아야하리라는 언약의 말씀을 붙잡았기 때문에 시작한 것이다. 우리가 언약안에 있게되면 하나님께서 우리를 지켜주시고 보호해주시고 인도해주신다는 사실이다. 성경에도 보면 그렇다. 위험한 일을 당한 것 같지만 언약 속에 있게되면 그것이 기회가 되고 축복의 길로 바뀐다. 사도바울은 로마에 복음을 증거하는 언약을 잡았더니 황제 앞에 가서 복음을 증거할 수 있는 길을 열어주셨다. 언약을 사도바울이 잡았는데 더 큰 축복을 부어주신 것이다. 우리가 언약을 잡고 있다. 이 언약가진 자가 얼마나 큰 축복을 받았는가를 붙잡아야겠다. 우리가 언약을 갖고있으면서 축복을 놓치는 경우가 많다. 우리가 분명히 알고 확실히 붙잡게될 때는 어마어마한 축복이 우리에게 주어진다.
2. 언약가진 자의 축복
1) 믿는 자의 축복
창 12:1-3에 하나님께서 아브라함을 부르시는 내용이 나타난다.
창 12:1 여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 너의 고향과 친척과 아버지의 집을 떠나 내가 네게 보여 줄 땅으로 가라
네가 메시야가 오실 땅으로 가라 하는 언약을 주셨다. 그러면서 네가 만일 이 언약을 잡게되면 어마어마한 축복을 주겠다는 것이다. 가기만 하면 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주고 네 이름을 창대케하고 너를 복의 근원으로 만들겠다는 것이다. 너를 축복하는 자를 축복하고 너를 저주하는 자를 저주하고 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 받는 축복을 주겠다는 것이다. 이것이 언약 잡은 자에게 주시는 축복이다.
갈 3:29 너희가 그리스도의 것이면 곧 아브라함의 자손이요 약속대로 유업을 이을 자니라
우리가 지금 세계복음화의 언약을 잡고있는데 언약 잡은 우리에게 어떤 축복이 주어질 것인가 분명히 붙잡아야겠다. 우리는 아브라함에게 허락해주신 축복 다섯 가지를 갖고있다. 붙잡고 누리는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
2) 언약잡은 자의 축복
첫번째는 근원적 축복을 주셨다. 하나님이 인간을 창조하실 때 제일 먼저 주신 것이 창 1:27-28의 축복이다. 하나님의 형상을 주시면서 생육하고 번성하고 다스리고 충만하라는 축복을 주셨다. 하나님께서는 아브라함을 부르시면서 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이룰 것이라고 하셨다. 창 1:27-28의 회복을 허락해주겠다는 것이다. 우리에게는 이 축복이 이미 주어진 줄로 믿는다.
그런데 인간이 타락했다. 그래서 언약적 축복을 주셨다. 언약 가운데 제일 먼저 주신 언약이 무엇인가. 타락한 인간에게 제일 먼저 주신 언약이 창 3:15이다. 여자의 후손을 통해서 뱀의 머리를 깨겠다는 것이다. 너희 들의 모든 영적문제를 완전히 해결해주겠다는 것이다. 언약 잡은 자에게 제일 먼저 해결해주시는 것이 영적문제를 해결해주시는 것이다. 예수님께서 사단의 머리를 깼기 때문에 이미 끝난것이다. 창 6:14에 방주 안에 들어가라고 하신다. 들어가기만하면 끝나는 것이다. 방주 밖에서 아무리 폭풍이 치고 물바람이 쳐도 아무 상관이 없다. 그리스도가 완전 보호. 여러분의 영적문제가 완전히 해결된 줄로 믿는다. 주님께서 완전히 해결하셨다는 것을 믿고 나가게 되면 아무것도 문제될 것이 없다.
그 다음은 대표적 축복이다. 창 12:2에 네 이름을 창대하게 하겠다는 것이다. 저는 이것을 확실히 믿는다. 저는 장모님을 통해서 수 많은 사람들이 구원받고 찾아와서 그의 이름을 높이는 것을 보았다. 사도바울도 믿음이 좋으니까 사도바울 정말로 대단한 사람이다 하고 추앙을 하고 있다. 우리 언약잡은 류목사님을 보더라도 세계적인 전도자라고 한다. 똑같다. 언약안에 있게되면 우리로 하여금 하나님께서 그 이름을 창대케해주는 축복이 임한다. 내가 그분 때문에 구원받았어. 내가 자살하려고 했는데 그분 때문에 살았어. 내가 도저히 해결하지 못하는 문제를 그 분 때문에 해결받았어 하게된다.
마 1:1 아브라함과 다윗의 자손 예수 그리스도의 계보라
아브라함은 -영원히 추앙뱓는 인물이 되었다. 하나님께서 이 축복을 저와 여러분에게 주신 줄로 믿는다.
네번째로는 기념비적 축복이다. 창 12:3에 너를 축복하는 자에게는 내가 복을 내리고 너를 저주하는 자에게는 내가 저주한다고 하셨다. 이것은 세상적으로 육신적으로만 얘기하는 것이 아니다. 우리를 힘들게하는 모든 흑암은 무너지게되는 것이다. 왜그런가. 하나님의 권능이 임하기 때문이다.
롬 8:37 그러나 이 모든 일에 우리를 사랑하시는 이로 말미암아 우리가 넉넉히 이기느니라
힘든 일이 있는가. 문제될 것 하나도 없다. 영적으로 힘든 일이 있는가. 말씀을 통해서 우리가 넉넉히 이긴다.
다섯번째 불가항력적 축복이다.
창 12:3 – 땅의 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 얻을 것이라 하신지라
마28:19-20 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고. 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라
하나님께서 이렇게 하신다면 끝난 것이다. 우리 주님께서 우리와 함께하시면 해결되지 못할 것이 없다. 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 이 축복을 막을 자가 없다. 우리가 힘 없이 살 존재가 아니다. 지금 이 세상은 너무나 힘들어간다. 요번에 RCA 리더 수련회에서 나온 말씀이다. 렘넌트의 시급한 과제. 다시 말씀드리면 언약가지 자가 가질 시급한 과제를 말하고 있다.
3. 언약가진 자의 시급한 과제
1) 24시하는 제자
24시를 하는 제자가 되어야한다. 왜 그런가. 캘리포니아 대형 교회 목사님도 자살했다. 그 사람도 힘없이 무너졌는데 상담 들은 사람을 어떻겠는가. 그런데 이것은 보통 일이 아니라 이미 성경에서 예언된 시대인 것을 볼 수 있다.
딤후3:1 너는 이것을 알라 말세에 고통하는 때가 이르러
온 세상이 고통하고 있다. 사단이 시공간을 초월해서 사람들을 공격하고 있다. 계 12:9에 이런 내용이 나타난다.
계12:9 큰 용이 내쫓기니 옛 뱀 곧 마귀라고도 하고 사탄이라고도 하며 온 천하를 꾀는 자라 그가 땅으로 내쫓기니 그의 사자들도 그와 함께 내쫓기니라
지금 그런 시대가 온 것이 아닌가 한다. 사단이 24시 공격해서 정신병, 중독, 범죄, 질병시대로 몰고가고 있다. 이것은 시대적인 현상인 것을 볼 수 있다. 그러면 우리는 어떻게 해야하는가. 그 목사님처럼 나도 안되겠다 싶어서 자살해야하는가. 그래서 이번 메세지를 통해서 응답을 주신 것이다. 사단이 24시 공격하고 있으니까 우리도 24시 기도하면서 누리자는 것이다. 분명한 것은 그리스도를 확실히 붙잡아야한다.
요일3:8 죄를 짓는 자는 마귀에게 속하나니 마귀는 처음부터 범죄함이라 하나님의 아들이 나타나신 것은 마귀의 일을 멸하려 하심이라
우리 안에 계신 주님은 마귀의 일을 완전히 멸하신 분이다. 우리는 만왕의 왕을 모시고 있다.
롬8:2 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 너를 해방하였음이라
우리에게 있는 생명의 성령의 법을 통해서 죄와 사망에 법에서 해방되었다. 분명히 너를 해방했다고 얘기하고 있다.
마11:28 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라
주님앞에 가기만 하면 해결된다. 맞기기만 하면 된다. 어떤 문제가 있다고 하더라도 인생을 맞기면 되는 것이다. 이것을 24시 붙잡는 것이다.
마 6:33 그런즉 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라
그러므로 우리가 잡을 것은 예수가 그리스도라는 십자가의 의를 붙잡고 하나님 나라를 위해서 살아가는 것이다. 그리하면 모든 것을 더해줄 것이라고 했다. 24시 말씀을 붙잡고 --. 이 간단한 방법을 사람들이 모른다. 그리스도를 알기만 하면 된다.
2) 24시 누리는 제자
우리는 24시를 누리는 제자가 되어야겠다. 우리가 기도하는 순간에는 우리가 상상하지 못하는 보지 못하는 어마어마한 영적인 현상이 일어난다. 주님께서 보고 계시고 성삼위 하나님께서 들으시고 역사하신다. 하늘 군대가 움직인다. 흑암의 권세가 그냥 무너진다. 이것을 영적으로 보자는 것이다. 우리가 24시 기도하게 되면 24시 이런 일이 생기는 것이다. 이것을 누리시는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
왕하6:17 기도하여 이르되 여호와여 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그 청년의 눈을 여시매 그가 보니 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀더라
엘리사의 이야기가 나타난다. 기도를 통해서 영적인 눈이 띄어 영적인 현상을 바라보는 것이다. 여기서 중요한 내용이 나타난다. 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀다. 다시 말씀드리면 기도하는 엘리사를 둘러싼 것이다. 기도하는 순간에 불말과 불병거가 여러분을 둘러쌀 줄로 믿는다. 이 영적인 사실을 보여주고 있다. 이것을 누리면서 기도하시기 바란다.
단6:10 다니엘이 이 조서에 왕의 도장이 찍힌 것을 알고도 자기 집에 돌아가서는 윗방에 올라가 예루살렘으로 향한 창문을 열고 전에 하던 대로 하루 세 번씩 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 그의 하나님께 감사하였더라
우상숭배하지 않은 죄로 죽음을 당하게 되었다. 그런데 자기는 우상숭배하느니 차라리 죽겠다 각오를 하면서 문을 열어놓고 하나님께 기도했다. 고발을 당해서 나중에 사자 굴에 들어가게 된다. 하나님께서는 기도하는 다니엘을 보시고 응답하시면서 사자의 입을 봉하심으로 살려주셨다. 우리는 힘 없이 앉아서 기도하는 것 같지만 그냥 기도가 아니라 하늘 보좌가 움직인다는 사실을 붙잡아야한다. 천사는 한 마디도 빠지지 않고 기도를 다 갖고 하나님 보좌로 갖고간다. 하나님 보좌에 도착하자마자 하늘 군대가 동원되고 영적인 존재가 움직이기 시작한다. 그래서 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 다섯가지 축복을 성취 시키게 된다. 여기서 꼭 잡아야할 것이 있다. - 지켜주시고 인도해주신 이유가 나온다. 언약의 흐름 속에 들어가게 되면 반드시 지켜주신다.
막16:20 제자들이 나가 두루 전파할새 주께서 함께 역사하사 그 따르는 표적으로 말씀을 확실히 증언하시니라
여러분 우리가 이것을 잡아야할 이유가 있다. 말세에는 너무나 많은 사람들이 고통하고 있다. 앞으로는 더 심해질 것이다. 사 60에 보면 캄캄함이 임한다고 했다. ---. 많은 교회가 넘어가고 있다. 목사님들도 자살한다. 하나님께서 누구를 쓰시는가. 언약가진 자를 쓰신다. 함계 역사하시는 증거를 보시기 바란다. 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
결론
막9:23 예수께서 이르시되 할 수 있거든이 무슨 말이냐 믿는 자에게는 능히 하지 못할 일이 없느니라 하시니
믿으시는가. 여러분 가장 중요한 것은 아무리 메세지를 많이 해도 안믿으면 소용이 없는 것이다. 이 사실을 믿으면 그 순간에 해결된다. 믿는 자에게는 능히 하지 못할 일이 없느니라. 뭘 믿는가. 말씀은 반드시 성취된다는 사실이다. 우리가 기도한 것은 반드시 응답이 온다는 사실이다. 우리는 하나님의 자녀가 되었기 때문에 신분과 권세가 있다. 예수 그리스도의 이름을 사용하시기 바란다. 증거가 나타날 줄로 믿는다.
"The Enjoyment of Those Who Have the Covenant" (Acts 25:1-12)

Scripture: “ 1 Now when Festus had come to the province, after three days he went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem. 2 Then the high priest and the chief men of the Jews informed him against Paul; and they petitioned him, 3 asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem—while they lay in ambush along the road to kill him. 4 But Festus answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself was going there shortly. 5 'Therefore,' he said, 'let those who have authority among you go down with me and accuse this man, to see if there is any fault in him.' 6 And when he had remained among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea. And the next day, sitting on the judgment seat, he commanded Paul to be brought. 7 When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood about and laid many serious complaints against Paul, which they could not prove, 8 while he answered for himself, 'Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in anything at all.' 9 But Festus, wanting to do the Jews a favor, answered Paul and said, 'Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and there be judged before me concerning these things?' 10 So Paul said, 'I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you very well know. 11 For if I am an offender, or have committed anything deserving of death, I do not object to dying; but if there is nothing in these things of which these men accuse me, no one can deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.' 12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, 'You have appealed to Caesar? To Caesar you shall go!' ”

There was a news article that I read and it was about a church in California, Harvest Christian Fellowship Church and the associate pastor, Jarrid Wilson of that church committed suicide. Jarrid Wilson committed suicide due to suffering from depression. On the day that he committed suicide, he was actually leading a funeral service for a church member who committed suicide. His ministry’s main focus was towards mental health and helping people with suicidal ideations. He confessed that he was a Christian but was fighting with depression and it is an ongoing battle within his life. He continued to confess that the month of September is the suicide awareness month and he mentioned that everyone’s lives are all important. After he said all of those things, he committed suicide. After I heard of this news, it made me think a lot. I realized that Satan has the power to bring down people who are even pastors and what is absolute is that, Satan does not fear pastors. What we need to hold onto is that if Satan does not fear pastors, then he will not be afraid to attack church members and the church congregation. What Satan fears the most is only Christ alone. That is why it is so important for us to proclaim that Jesus is the Christ on a daily basis. This is so important for you to do that. Not only that but we need to enjoy the kingdom of God every day and only when we live inside God’s covenant, then can we be victorious. Our Lord, God guides those who are within His covenant. It is not going back and forth from church but God truly guides those who hold onto His covenant earnestly. Today’s scripture discusses about this.
1. Guidance For Those Who Have the Covenant
1) The Jews' accusations:
Verses 1-5 - The Jews were complaining to Caesar about governor Felix and desiring for him to removed as governor. That was when Felix was replaced by Festus and the moment Festus arrived in Rome, the first thing that he did was go to Jerusalem. Since Caesar commissioned him as a the new governor, he wanted to gain the favor of the Jews so that is why he went to them first. If he went to Jerusalem, he could meet very important Jewish leaders and the Jewish people, and of course, if he meets with them, he will hear what the Jewish leaders have to say. He will also listen to their requests and what they think the problems were within Jerusalem. The Jews who heard the new governor, Festus was coming to Jerusalem, they saw this as a great opportunity to have Festus kill Paul. That was when Festus made the decision to hold a trial against Paul in Caesarea. It basically wasn’t a fair trial for Paul because they were planning to bring Paul and kill him on the way there. But Festus who heard the Jewish leaders’ request to hold trial in Jerusalem, he disagreed to this and answered that Paul should remain in Caesarea. This was because Festus agreed to the Jewish leaders that they should be a trial against Paul but not in Jerusalem but in Caesarea.
2) Paul's appeal:
Verses 7-12 - This allowed Paul to come out of the hands of death. But the Jews did not stand still and they went down to Jerusalem to stand trial against Paul. They officially held trial against Paul formally before Festus in Caesarea. Even though they were providing all of these accusations against Paul, honestly, they did not have any proof against those accusations. They were all accusing Paul but it was all baseless and had no evidence. But despite all of that, the Festus wanted to gain the heart of the Jews so even though he knew that Paul was innocent, he asked Paul if he wanted to stand trial before Caesar or go to Jerusalem to hold another trial. Paul knew of the plan that on his way to Jerusalem and that the Jewish leaders would try to kill him so he agreed to stand before Caesar. Since he was a Roman citizen, he agreed to stand before Caesar. This wasn’t a simple event and there was a great complexity behind this. It was a year since Paul was in prison and after a year, the Jews were still persistent in trying to kill Paul. In other words, Satan continued to work 24 hours a day to attack Paul and get him killed.
3) Spiritual Warfare:
What Satan always thinks about is as written in John 10:10 (“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”) - But what is absolute is that, even though Satan works 24 hours a day to attack children of God but God protects those who have the covenant 24 hours a day. Festus had Paul remain in Caesarea instead of Jerusalem as well as made a decision to bring Paul before Caesar; and we can see that all of this was guided and done by God. Even though Festus brings the Jews from Jerusalem before Paul in Caesarea, Festus asked Paul if he wanted to go to Jerusalem or stand before Caesar but Paul decided to go before Caesar. You can see that God was guiding Paul throughout all of these events. This was because God gave Paul the covenant of Acts 23:11 (“But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, 'Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.' ”) - This was God’s plan for Paul. Paul held onto the covenant that he had to go to Rome so that is why he made sure to say that he will go to Rome to stand before Caesar. What this means is that when we hold onto God’s covenant, then God will work to guide and led us perfectly to fulfill His covenant. This is quite astounding. If we are within the covenant, then every crisis and problems becomes a golden opportunity and blessing to fulfill God’s covenant. Even though Paul was going to Rome to stand trial, God was using this opportunity for Paul to share the gospel to Caesar. We can see that God prepared this blessing for Paul. We are holding onto the covenant but we have to realize how much blessings we have as people of the covenant. The problem is that we have the covenant but we are not aware of the blessings that we possess.
2. The Blessings of Those Who Have the Covenant
1) The blessing of believers:
Genesis 12:1-3 (“Now the Lord had said to Abram: 'Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' ”) - God calls Abraham as seen in this Biblical scripture. In other words, God gave Abraham the covenant to go to the land where Jesus, the Messiah will come. If Abraham holds onto this covenant, then God promised him great blessings. If Abraham just follows God’s covenant, then God promised him the blessing to become a great nation and to bless his children. God promised to give him these great blessings as seen in Genesis 12:1-3. This is the content of the blessings of those who hold onto God’s covenant.
Galatians 3:29 (“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”) - We are holding onto the covenant of world evangelism and if we continue to hold onto this covenant, wait to see what kind of blessings will come to you. We need to hold onto the fact that we possess the same blessings that came to Abraham. May we hold onto this.
2) The blessings of those who hold onto the covenant:
The first blessing that God gave to those who held onto His covenant is and this was the first covenant that God gave to mankind, the Principal source of blessings: Genesis 1:27-28 (“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.' ”) - God promised Abraham that he will become a great nation, this was the content of the same covenantal blessing. I believe that these great blessings are upon us all. But the problem is that mankind are sinners but even despite of that, God gave us His covenant. What was the first covenant that God gave mankind after they became sinners was Genesis 3:15.
Covenantal blessings: Genesis 3:15, 6:14, 12:2 (“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. 6:14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 12:2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.”) - The covenant of Genesis 3:15 promises to heal us of our spiritual problems. Jesus Christ broke the head of Satan. This means that Jesus finished everything. Genesis 6:14, God told His people to enter into the ark. They had to enter the ark and even despite how strong the waves the water was, they were okay. They will be completely protected once they were inside the ark. Everyone has spiritual problems but if you are in Christ, no problem is a problem. That is why God promised us blessings in Genesis 12:2. God promised to give us the blessing to solve our fundamental problems. I truly believe in Genesis 12:2. I spoke about my mother-in-law in the last sermon but I praised her because through her, she was able to save her entire family and family line. Because of Apostle Paul’s great faith, great blessings were bestowed upon him and people around him. This is the same case for Rev. Kwang-su Ryu. This is the same case for us. Because of “that person”, I am saved. Because of “that person”, I have met Jesus Christ. That person will be blessed who has led you to Christ. That name will be elevated.
Representative blessings: Matthews 1:1 (“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.”) - Within the genealogy of Abraham and David, Jesus Christ would come and did come. Because of this, Abraham became an everlasting figure in Biblical history. And, I believe that same blessing will come upon us.
Commemorative blessings: Romans 8:37 (“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”) - Are you having a difficult time or facing a problem? It is not a problem. Through the Word of God, we are more than conquerors. This is the blessing that we possess.
Irresistible blessings: Matthews 28:19-20 (“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”) - If God blesses us, then that is it. If God does it, then nothing can stop God. If God is with you, then nothing is a problem. God promises to protect us. I am not talking about only physically but spiritually as well. All of the forces of darkness that is working around you is completely broken. This is because God’s authority and power is upon you. No one can block the blessings that God gives to us. We already possess all of these blessings. May we enjoy these blessings. ??? This world is suffering. Through this year’s RCA leader’s message, it talked about the urgent assignment we must take as children of God.
3. The Urgent Assignment For Those Who Have the Covenant
1) 24-hour disciples:
We must resolved to become 24-hour disciples. Why is that? We talked about how even the associate pastor in California who was helping people with mental problems was suffering himself. This is not an ordinary or simple issue, this kind of problem was already foretold in the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:1 (“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.”) - For Satan, there is no such thing as time or space so he attacks at all times and everywhere. And, it speaks about it in Revelations 12:9 (“So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”). I believe that we are within that age right now. Right now, it is the age of mental problems, physical diseases, and addiction. We can see that these problems are expanding and continuing to increase. Then, what can we do? Do we just commit suicide like that pastor in California? That is why through this message, God gave us an answer. Satan is attacking 24 hours a day, that is why we must protect ourselves with 24-hour prayer. What is absolute is that we must hold onto God 24 hours a day.
1 John 3:8 (“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”) - The reason why Christ came was to destroy the work of Satan. This Christ is within us as the True King. That is why wherever we go, the forces of Satan is broken. We must enjoy this power within the name of Christ.
Romans 8:2 (“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”) - Within the law of the Spirit of life that is within Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. We have been set free.
Matthew 11:28 (“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”) - If we just go before God, then all of our problems will be solved. All we have to do is entrust it to God. No matter what kind of problems you face in life, if you entrust it to God, then it will be solved. This is what it means to hold onto 24 hours.
Matthew 6:33 (“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”) - What we must hold onto is God’s righteousness and come before God, and go out to the world. Then, God promised that He will add everything else to us. This needs to be our prayer topic. This is such a simple task but people of this world are unaware of it. All we need to do is get to know who God really is.
2) Disciples who have 24-hour enjoyment:
Secondly what we must hold onto is we need to become disciples who have 24-hour enjoyment. What we need to be aware of is that when we pray, the spiritual world is at work. When we pray, God is listening and the armies of angels are mobilized. The moment we pray, the forces of darkness is broken down. We need to see this spiritually. May we enjoy this.
2 Kings 6:17 (“And Elisha prayed, and said, 'Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.' Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”) - The eyes of the servant of Elisha was opened and he was able to see the spiritual world at work. This is very important. It said that all of the full of horses and chariots of fire were all around Elisha. It was surrounding Elisha who was praying. This means that the moment we pray, the chariots of fire of heavenly hosts is at work and being mobilized. This is the spiritual fact that we can see. When we pray, may we enjoy this.
Daniel 6:10 (“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”) - Because Daniel refused to bow down to the idol, he received the threat of death. But even though he received the order that he will face death if he prays to God, he still opened his window and prayed three times a day. Because of this, he is thrown into the lions’ den. And, God sees the prayer of Daniel, gives the answer of shutting the mouths of the lions and saves him. Even though we may be weak when we pray but when we pray, we are able to move the heavenly hosts and spiritual world. When we pray, the angel does not forget one prayer but takes every prayer to God in heaven. The moment it is taken to heaven, God takes it and the spiritual world is at work. That is why we are able to enjoy the five covenantal blessings when we pray.
We must hold onto Mark 16:20 (“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.”) - Even in the midst of all of the hardships that Paul faced, because Paul continued to hold onto God’s covenant, God made sure to protect and guide him wherever he went. If you enter into the covenantal flow, then God will absolutely protect and guide you. There is a reason why we must hold onto this. There are so many people who are suffering in this world. If you look in Isaiah 60, it says there will be complete darkness and chaos but during this time, God promised us light. Who will save the world that will be in darkness and chaos? Who will save those who are suffering. A lot of people are suffering and so many churches are falling, and even pastors are committing suicide. But God will use those who hold onto His covenant. If you hold onto His covenant, then God will show you His accompanying signs.
<Conclusion>
Hold onto Mark 9:23 (“Jesus said to him, 'If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.' ”) - Do you believe in this? It doesn’t matter how many messages are being proclaimed to you but if you don’t believe in it, then it is all meaningless. But the moment you believe, then it is finished. If you believe, then all things are possible. What do we believe in? That the Word of God will be fulfilled. If we pray, then God will listen and answer you. As children of God, we have authority and power. Use this power and authority in the name of Jesus Christ.
