“율법에 대한 심각한 오해”

“1 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 너희는 정의를 지키며 의를 행하라 이는 나의 구원이 가까이 왔고 나의 공의가 나타날 것임이라 하셨도다 2 안식일을 지켜 더럽히지 아니하며 그의 손을 금하여 모든 악을 행하지 아니하여야 하나니 이와 같이 하는 사람, 이와 같이 굳게 잡는 사람은 복이 있느니라.” (사 56:1-2)”
서론
한 해를 보내면서 지난 해 송구영신 예배 제목을 찾아보았다. 전부 다 이야기는 할수 없고 2022년도 예배 내용이 요한복음 15:7 말씀이었다, “너희가 내 안에 거하고 내 말이 너희 안에 거하면 무엇이든지 원하는대로 구하라 그리하면 이루리라”. 보좌의 축복을 누리는 방법을 받았다. 그리고 작년 송구영신 예배에는 사 43:1 말씀을 받았다. “이 백성은 내가 나를 위하여 지었나니 나를 찬송하게 하려 함이니라” 받은 은혜가 우리의 발판 됨을 붙잡고 기도했다. 해마다 하나님께서 주시는 말씀 보면, 그 말씀 그대로 성취 하신것을 확인 할수 있다. 그래서 특별히 올해도 말씀 주신대로 성취 하셨구나 느꼈다. 올 한해를 보내며 마지막 시간에 하나님께서 우리에게 너무나 중요한 메시지를 주셨다. 오늘 말씀 제목을 “율법에 대한 심각한 오해” 로 잡았다. 우리가 복음을 잘못 이해하면 율법이 필요 없는것 처럼 느낄수도 있다. 간혹 주님께서 십자가 못박혀 돌아가심으로 다 끝났는데 왜 자꾸 율법을 강조하냐, 당신은 율법 주의야 하며 율법을 격하 시키는 사람들을 볼수있다. 이런 사람들을 보면 율법 없이 아무렇게, 도둑질 해도 괜찮고 간음해도 괜찮다, 하는 마인드로 살아가는것인가 싶을 때가 있다. 실제로 그렇게 살지는 않는다고 해도 마치 그리 살아도 괜찮은것 처럼 흐물흐물한 태도를 가지고 있는것을 볼수가 있다. 분명한것은 그것은 사단에게 속는것이다. 이것은 분명히 율법이 무엇인지를 모르고 오해 하는데서 오는 그런 삶인것을 붙잡아야겠다. 그래서 오늘 율법에 대해 정확하게 붙잡고 새해를 시작 하시기를 바란다.
1. 율법의 기원 The origin of the Law
(1) 창조 때 부터 From the time of creation
사 Isaiah 56:1
창 Genesis 2:17, 출 Exodus 20:1-17, 마 Matthew 22:37-40
오늘 1절 말씀 보게되면, “여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀 하시기를 너희는 정의를 지키며 의를 행하라” 라고 되어있다. 이 말씀을 요한 칼빈 목사님은 성경에서 특별히 아주 귀한 구절이다 했다. “너희는 정의를 지키라" 했다. 여기서 정의는 무엇을 나타내나? 바로 율법을 말한다. 율법 이라는것은 하나님께서 자신의 은혜를 보여주시기 위해 증표로 주신것이다. 하나님께서 우리 인간들에게 직접 글을 쓰셔서 돌판에 새겨 주신 그 은혜의 말씀이 율법이다. 하나님께서는 인간에게 율법을 주실때 이미 아담과 하와에게 주셨다. 그게 창세기 2:17 말씀이다, “선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라.” 이 말씀을 받을때 많은 사람들이 오해 하기를 하나님이 협박 하는 말씀으로 듣는다. 이 말씀은 유혹의 말씀이 아닌 사랑의 말씀으로 주신것으로 이해 해야한다. 너희들에게 영원히 살수 있는 영생의 비밀을 알려주겠다 이 말씀이다. 다시 말씀 드리면, 이 말씀 놓치면 너희들은 죽으니 꼭 붙잡아라 하는 생명의 말씀으로 주신것이다. 이것은 영원한 말씀이다. 지금도 하나님 말씀 놓치고 말씀 없이 살면 죽는것이다. 그래서 하나님께서는 아담에게 너희가 영원히 살수있는 비밀을 준다, 너희가 이것을 지키면 평생 축복 받고 영원한 삶을 살것이다 하는 비밀을 주신것이었다. 그런데 이 말씀을 무시 해버린것이다. 말씀을 놓쳐버리게 되니 죽음이 온것이다. 그래서 하나님께서 이제 이스라엘 백성들을 구분해 광야에 데리고 와서 정확한 말씀을 두번째로 주신다. 중요한것은 이스라엘 백성들에게만 주신것이 율법이다. 그것은 구원 받은, 택함받은 백성들이 천국에서 사는 비밀을 알려 주신것이다. 우리가 이 내용을 꼭 붙잡아야겠다. 너무나 중요하니 예수님께서 핵심을 다시 한번 이야기 하신것이다. 마 22:37-40 말씀 보면 첫째 계명이, “예수께서 이르시되 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하셨으니 38 이것이 크고 첫째 되는 계명이요 39 둘째도 그와 같으니 네 이웃을 네 자신 같이 사랑하라 하셨으니 40 이 두 계명이 온 율법과 선지자의 강령이니라.” 첫 계명이마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 라는 말이다. 둘째는 “네 이웃을 네 자신 같이 사랑하라 하셨으니” 이다. 이것은 인간들을 구속하기 위해 주신 말씀이 아니다. 이 말씀은 천국 백성들이 사는 비밀을 알려주신것이다. 천국에서는 계속 하나님께 예배를 드리는 삶을 사는것이다. 천국 에서는 이웃끼리 정말 한 몸으로 살아가는 삶을 사는것이다. 너희들이 천국에서 살거니까 이 땅에서도 그렇게 천국을 누리며 살아라 하며 특별히 택한 백성들에게 허락하여 주신 말씀이 율법 인것이다. 예수님께서 말씀하실때, 이 두 계명이 온 율법과 선지자의 강령이다 하신 부분을 잡아야한다. 이 말인즉슨 이것이 성경의 핵심이다 하는 말이다. 하늘에서 주어진 축복의 삶, 하나님과 백성의 관계를 이 땅에서도 누리라 하는 말씀이다. 오늘 말씀에서 계속된다, “이는 나의 구원이 가까이 왔고 나의 공의가 나타날 것임이라 하셨도다”. “나의 구원이 가까웠다” 는 말은 주님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 천국의 삶을 실천 하시겠다는 말이다. 인간의 몸으로 오셔서 파멸에 빠진 인간을 구원 해 내시겠다 하는것이다. 바로 그것은 하늘의 사랑이다. 이 땅에서 하늘의 사랑을 실천 하겠다 하시는것이다. 나의 공의가 나타날것 이라고 하셨다.
(2) 하나님의 공의 God's justice
벧전 1 Peter 2:24
마 Matthew 3:2
주님의 공의가 뭔가. 하늘의 사랑이 이 땅에 나타나는것, 바로 십자가의 사랑 인것이다. 십자가 사랑은 아가페 사랑, 하늘의 사랑을 나타낸다. 그래서 벧전 2:24말씀 보면, “친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게 하려 하심이라 그가 채찍에 맞음으로 너희는 나음을 얻었나니.” 라고 되어있다. 예수님께서는 하늘의 사랑을 이 땅에 보이기 위해 직접 당신의 생명을 내놓으신것이다. 하늘의 사랑은 조건이 없는 아가페 사랑이다. 고전 13장에 “사랑 장” 이 나오는데 전부 아가페 사랑을 나타낸다. 주님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 직접 우리에게 천국 사랑은 바로 이러한것이다 보여 주시는것이다.
2. 율법의 의미 The meaning of the Law
(1) 첫째 계명 The first commandment
사 Isaiah 56:2
신 Deuteronomy 6:4-5, 요 John 4:23, 잠 Proverbs 8:34-35
구체적으로 2장 말씀 보겠다, “안식일을 지켜 더럽히지 아니하며 그의 손을 금하여”. 안식일을 지키는것은 첫번째 돌판의 내용을 말하는것이다. 예수님이 말씀하신 모든 힘을 다해 예배를 드려라 하는 첫 계명의 핵심을 말하는것이다. 우리의 예배는 이 땅에서 뿐만 아니라 하늘에서도 계속 이루어지는것이다. 여러분, 신명기 6:4-5말씀 아실것이다. “이스라엘아 들으라” 하며 말씀 하셨다. 이것이 바로 쉐마 라는 것이다. 이스라엘아 들으라 하는것이다. 이스라엘이 꼭 지켜야 하는것들을 말하는것이다.
우리 하나님 여호와는 오직 유일한 여호와시니 네 마음을 다해, 뜻과 목숨을 다해 사랑하라” 하는 말이다. 우리가 천국에 가면 창조주 되시는 하나님 아버지를 영원토록 공경하며 예배 드릴것이다. 너희는 하나님의 자녀라고 하지 않았냐, 이 땅에서도 그것을 누리라 이 말이다. 이것이 바로 첫째 계명의 핵심이다. 예수님께서 이것을 요 4:23에 다시 말씀 하신다, “아버지께 참되게 예배하는 자들은 영과 진리로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이 때라 아버지께서는 자기에게 이렇게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라”. 이것은 이스라엘 백성이 지켰던 마음과 생명, 뜻을 다해 예배 드리는것을 나타낸다. 진심을 가지고 하나님께 예배 드리라는 말이다. 지금 우리가 드리는 예배가 바로 그것이다 하는것이다. 이것이 첫째 계명이다. 우상숭배는 말도 안되는것이다. 그래서 하나님께서는 예배 하는 자를 찾으신다 했다. 예배를 우습게 보면 축복 절대 못받는다. 잠언 8:34-35, “누구든지 내게 들으며 날마다 내 문 곁에서 기다리며 문설주 옆에서 기다리는 자는 복이 있나니 35 대저 나를 얻는 자는 생명을 얻고 여호와께 은총을 얻을 것임이니라.” 하나님께서 주시는 말씀을 듣기 위해 막 성전에서 기다리는 것이다. 당시 이방인들은 들어가지도 못해 밖에서 귀를 쫑긋하고 들으며 예배에 참석했다. 바로 그런 자들은 하나님께서는 생명을 얻고 은총을 얻을것 이라 하신것이다. 인간이 하나님께 받은 모든 축복의 시작이 예배로부터 오는것이다. 예배를 별로 중요하게 여기지 않는다? 하나님을 중요하게 여기지 않는것이다. 하나님께서는 예배 하는 자를 찾으시는데 없는것이다. 얼마나 하나님께서 섭섭 하시겠나.
(2) 둘째 계명 The second commandment
살전 1 Thessalonians 5:15
롬 Romans 12:21, 시 Psalm 1:1-3
“모든 악을 행하지 아니하여야 하나니 이와 같이 하는 사람, 이와 같이 굳게 잡은 사람은 복이 있느니라.” 이 말은 십계명 두번째 돌판에 대한 이야기이다. 두번째 돌판의 핵심은, 이웃을 네 몸처럼 사랑 하는것이다. 살전 5:15 말씀 보면, “삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르라.” 라고 되어있다. 이것의 모델이 바로 주님 되신것이다. 주님께서는 자기를 십자가에 못박혀 죽게 만든 사람들을 보며 저들을 용서해 주소서 기도 하셨다. 이러한 삶을 사는 사람은 진짜 하나님을 사랑하고 율법을 사랑하는 사람이다. 로마서 12:21, “악에게 지지 말고 선으로 악을 이기라.” 주님께서 주신 둘째 계명의 핵심이 바로 이 사랑이다. 우리가 축복받고 하나님께 영광돌리며 사는 삶의 모습이 바로 이러한것 이라는 말이다. 이렇게 살아라 하는 말이다. 그런데 이것을 보고 어떻게 그걸 다 지키냐, 율법은 더이상 필요 없다 하는것은 정말 하나님께서 서운해 하실 모습이다. 다윗을 보시기 바란다. 시 1:1-2 에 말하고있다, “복 있는 사람은 악인들의 꾀를 따르지 아니하며 죄인들의 길에 서지 아니하며 오만한 자들의 자리에 앉지 아니하고 2 오직 여호와의 율법을 즐거워하여 그의 율법을 주야로 묵상하는도다”. 여러분, 우리가 이 계명의 본래 의미를 잘 안다면 우리를 나쁜 길로 인도 하는 사람들을 따라가지도 친하게 지내지도 않게 된다. 그런 사람들을 살리라고 주신 말씀이지 따라가라고 하신것이 아니다. 그렇다면 진짜 복 있는 사람은 어떤 사람이라고 하셨나? 오직 여호와의 율법을 즐거워하여 그의 율법을 주야로 묵상하는 자 이다. 다윗이 왜 율법을 즐거워 했나? 뭐든 하지마라 하지마라 억압하면 좋아할 사람이 없다. 이 말씀 가운데서 다윗은 하나님의 사랑을 깨달은 것이다. 하나님의 놀라운 헌신과 은혜, 그리고 십자가의 사랑까지 깨달은 이가 다윗 이었다. 말씀을 사랑하는 사람들은 하나님의 사랑을 맛 본 사람이다. 이렇듯 말씀을 묵상하는것이 얼마나 중요한지 모른다. 시1:3, “그는 시냇가에 심은 나무가 철을 따라 열매를 맺으며 그 잎사귀가 마르지 아니함 같으니 그가 하는 모든 일이 다 형통하리로다.” 하나님의 그 놀라우시고 풍성한 은혜를 날마다 생각하며 “하나님의 은혜에 감사 합니다, 제가 오늘 살아있는것도 주님의 은혜 덕 입니다”, 이러한 기쁨의 고백이 따라 오는것이다. 그렇게 되면 기쁨 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서 우리에게 철을 따라 열매 맺는 축복을 주실것이다. 우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 내 몸 처럼 사랑하는 뜨거운 사랑을 가지고 있다면 모든 일을 다 형통케 하시겠다 말씀 하셨다. 이 축복 누리는 여러분 되시기를 바란다. 새해에는 이 축복 가운데 모든 일이 형통함을 얻는 시간이 되기를 바란다.
3. 세상의 재앙을 막으라 Stop the disasters of the world
(1) 세상을 이끌자 Let's lead the world
롬 Romans 10:4, 9
또 우리에게 언약을 주셨다. 우리는 이웃 사랑의 포인트, 세상의 재앙을 막는 자 가 되어야겠다. 로마서 10:4 말씀 보면 “그리스도는 모든 믿는 자에게 의를 이루기 위하여 율법의 마침이 되시니라” 라고 되어있다. 믿는 자, 곧 하나님의 사랑을 믿는 자에게는 모든것이 끝난것이다 하는 것이다. 주님께서 십자가에서 모든것을 성취 시키심을 우리에게 보이셨다. 이제는 주님의 사랑을 우리가 붙잡고 누리는 단계이다. 롬 10:9, “네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라.” 예수님의 무엇을 믿는가. 날 위해 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가셨어, 단순이 그것을 믿으시는가? 주님의 아가페 사랑을 믿는것이다. 하늘의 사랑, 나라의 사랑을 보여주시기 위해 친히 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 그 사실을 믿는것이다. 믿으면 구원을 받으리라 – 믿는 자에게는 천국을 소유하는 축복을 주리라 하는 말씀이다.
(2) 보좌의 능력을 누릴 자 Those who will enjoy the power of the throne
딤후 2 Timothy 2:4-6
우리는 보좌의 능력을 누릴 자가 되어야겠다. 딤후 2:4-6, “병사로 복무하는 자는 자기 생활에 얽매이는 자가 하나도 없나니 이는 병사로 모집한 자를 기쁘게 하려 함이라 경기하는 자가 법대로 경기하지 아니하면 승리자의 관을 얻지 못할 것이며 수고하는 농부가 곡식을 먼저 받는 것이 마땅하니라.” 이다. 우리는 십자가의 군사이다. 우리는 파수꾼이다. 이 생명 살리고 언약 잡는데 있어 자기 생활에 얽매이는 자가 없다 했다. 우리는 마땅히 이러한 삶을 살아야겠다. 스스로 정말 하나님의 파수꾼으로 파송 된 자라 믿어진다면 자기 생활에 얽매이지 않기를 바란다. 모집 하는 자를 기쁘게 하는 삶을 살기를 바란다. 경기하는 자가 법대로 행한다고 했다. 우리가 딱 잡을것이 하나님 사랑, 이웃 사랑으로 천국의 삶을 누리는 것 이다. 하나님께서 놀라운 축복을 먼저 “곡식’ 으로 주실것이다.
(3) 재앙을 막을 자 Those who will stop the disasters
딤후 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 16-17
우리는 재앙 막을자의 위치에 있다. 딤후 3:1, “너는 이것을 알라 말세에 고통하는 때가 이르러” 인간에게 왜 고통이 오나. 하나님의 말씀을 떠난 순간에 고통이 왔다. 아담과 하와가 말씀을 떠난 순간 자신에게 뿐만 아니라 온 인류, 후대에 고통이 왔다. 말세에 세상이 점점 더 어두워져 고통할 때가 온다고 했다. 말씀 없이 각자의 소견대로, 원하는대로 살아가는것이다. 그렇게 되면 고통을 당한다. 이것을 막을자가 누구냐, 그 답이 딤후 3:16-17에 있다. “모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하니.17.이는 하나님의 사람으로 온전하게 하며 모든 선한 일을 행할 능력을 갖추게 하려 함이라.” 성경이 무엇인가? 율법과 선지자의 강령인 계명인 것이다. 하나님의 법을 붙잡는 자를 나타내는것이다. 이것을 나의 망대로 붙잡는것이다. 그렇게 되면 천국 보좌의 축복 누리는 놀라운 은혜 가운데 살게 될 것이다 하는 말이다. 새해에는 이 말씀의 성취 속에 있는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
결론 Conclusion
고전 1 Corinthians 13:13
말씀 맺겠다. 고전 13:13에 사도바울의 말이다, “그런즉 믿음, 소망, 사랑, 이 세 가지는 항상 있을 것인데 그 중의 제일은 사랑이라.” 이 사랑에는 하나님의 모든 사랑이 다 들어있다. 성경의 모든 내용이 다 들어있다. 전도자의 마음이 다 들어있다. 이 말씀으로 승리 하시는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
The Great Misunderstanding about the Law (Isaiah 56:1-2)

“1 Thus says the Lord: 'Keep justice, and do righteousness, For My salvation is about to come, And My righteousness to be revealed. 2 Blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who lays hold on it; Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And keeps his hand from doing any evil.' ”
Introduction
Spending the year of 2023, I looked over last year’s New Year’s sermon title. I can’t tell you everything but in 2022, the scripture for New Year’s sermon was John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”. It gave us the message on how to receive the blessing of the heavenly throne. The year of 2023, the scripture was Isaiah 43:21 “This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise.”. It was about how our answers become our platform and foundation. When we look at the sermons and Bible scriptures that God has given to us every year, we can confirm that God has fulfilled His word through us. Just like how Isaiah 43:21 was given to us, I was able to confirm the answers that God has given to me. As we approach 2024, I believe that God will give us great grace. If we misunderstand what the law is, we think that we don’t need the law. Jesus Christ died on the cross and finished everything so we think that we don’t need the law anymore. When I see the people who think like this, they think that they can live however they want. They live lawlessly and think that they can steal, lie, and do anything they want. Even if you don’t live like that doing evil deeds but you live mindlessly. What is absolute is that this is you being deceived by Satan. What is absolute is that you have a misunderstanding regarding what the law is. That is why I will explain to you what the law is and may we start 2024 with knowing what the law is.
1. The Origin of the Law
(1) From the time of creation
Verse 1 - Pastor John Calvin explained that this was one of the most precious Biblical scriptures. Keeping justice means to keep the law. What is the law? The law was given to us by God to show us His grace. This was the evidence of God’s grace. God showed us the law and wrote it on stone to show us His grace.
God gave Adam and Eve His law in the beginning and that was Genesis 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” - Many people look at this verse and think that God is trying to threaten us. But this Biblical verse is not a threatening verse but it was God showing us His love. What does that mean? In order to help us live eternally and showing us the mystery of eternal life, God gave us this verse. God was telling us to hold onto this covenant to live and to live eternally. This was the love of God. These were the words of love. This shows that if we don’t have the word of God, then we will die. That is why God gave Adam and Eve the mystery on how to live and how to live eternally. This was how they could live a life full of blessings; that was why God emphasized this covenant to them. But mankind ignored God’s covenant and words. They lost hold of God’s word and death came upon mankind. That was why God chose the Israelites and gave them His second covenant in the wilderness. What is important is that God gave only the Israelites His law. God wrote down His law on stone, which was the 10 commandments*. What does this mean? God was giving them the mystery on how to live in heaven, this was the law that God gave to His chosen people, the Israelites. We need to hold onto this content, this is very important. This was so important that God gave us the core of this law once again.
Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” - The first law that was written on the first tablet was Matthew 22:37 which was to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind. The second law that was written on the second tablet was to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. These were not words and a covenant given to mankind to feel threatened by God. But this was the mystery given to us to help us live in heaven. This was the mystery on how to live in heaven. When we go to heaven, we are worshiping and praising God all the time. We are loving God in heaven. This was what God was trying to tell us, God is telling us to live on earth like we are living in heaven. Matthew 22:40 - The core of all the law of God was what God emphasized. God was blessing us so that we can enjoy the blessings of heaven on earth.

Exodus 20:1-17 “And God spoke all these words, saying: 2 'I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. 7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 13 You shall not murder. 14 You shall not commit adultery. 15 You shall not steal. 16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.' ”
(2) God's justice
Verse 1 - What does it mean that our salvation is about to come? That means that God will fulfill the work of salvation on earth. Jesus will come in human flesh and will reveal salvation to mankind. This was the love from heaven, from God. God was going to fulfill this on earth. God’s righteousness will be revealed. What is God’s righteousness? This was the love and law of heaven. This love of heaven was the law of the cross. The law of the cross is agape love.
1 Peter 2:24 “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” - Jesus Christ loved us the love of God and from above to mankind through the cross. That is why the love of heaven is unconditional love, agape love. 1 Peter 2:24 was written in agape love. God was showing us the love from above.
2. The Meaning of the Law
(1) The first commandment
Verse 2 - What does it mean to keep the Sabbath? It is regarding keeping the first covenant written in the first tablet. This is fulfilled when we keep worship. When it comes to worship, it doesn’t just affect us on this earth but affects heaven as well.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” - God was telling His people, Israel, to listen. This was what the Israelites had to keep. If we go to heaven, we will be giving worship to God forever and eternally. We are children of God, are you not? Then, you need to enjoy this on earth. This is the main content of the 1st commandment.
John 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” - God desires for His children to worship and praise Him. We need to worship God with all of our heart and with sincerity. This is the worship that we are giving right now. This is the 1st commandment. When we give this kind of worship then idol worship is nothing at all. That is why God said that He is seeking those who worship Him. Those who look down on worship then you will not be able to receive blessings at all.
Proverbs 8:34-35 “Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord.” - The people who would wait at the gate of the temples and waiting to listening to the word of God, those will be favored by God. This is the start of all blessings. The start of all blessings are those who wait and treasure worship. Those who don’t see worship as important then God will not see you as important as well. God said that He is seeking those who worship Him but He finds none. How disappointed and sad do you think God will be.
(2) The second commandment
Verse 2 - The second tablet of the 10 commandments, the core of it is to keep and love it as much as you love yourself.
1 Thessalonians 5:15 “See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.” - God showed Himself as a role model to us through Jesus. Jesus died on the cross on our behalf. As He died on the cross, He forgave the people who persecuted and killed Him. If we truly love the law of the Lord, then we can love others.
Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” - The core of the 2nd tablet is this. This is the life that we must live as people of God, as people who keep God’s law. If we don’t know the importance of the law, then you will lose hold of what God sees as essence.
Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” - David confessed this. If we truly understand this, then we should not follow and spend time with people who make us sin and do evil. We should not follow them but love them. Then, who are the truly blessed ones? Those who meditate and delight in the word of God. Do you think David was bored with the word of God? No one likes to listen and hold onto something that tells you not to do this or that. But David saw the love of God behind God’s law. David saw the unconditional love of God behind God’s law. Those who love God love the word of God. That is why we must meditate on God’s word.
Psalm 1:3 - We will always be freshened by God’s love and grace. We are able to give constant thanksgiving of God’s love and grace. Not only can we experience happiness but we can bear eternal fruits. If we truly love God and possess God’s love, then God will open all doors for us and give us abundant answers.
3. Stop the Disasters of the World
(1) Let's lead the world
Romans 10:4, 9 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 9 If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Those who believe in God, they love God and everything is finished for them. Jesus died on the cross and fulfilled everything on the cross. Now, we can hold onto God’s love and can just experience/enjoy His love.
Romans 10:9 - What does God believe in? Do you end with the fact that Jesus died on the cross for you? There is agape love behind the cross. In order to show us His love, Jesus died on the cross. We are able to believe and see God’s eternal and unconditional love through the work of the cross.
(2) Those who will enjoy the power of the throne
Hold onto 2 Timothy 2:4-6 “No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.” - We are soldiers of the cross. We are the watchman. We are the people who will save lives. We are not entangled with the things of this world but we are living as soldiers of God. We are believing that God has raised up as God’s watchmen so don’t be entangled with the affairs of the world or of other people. We must love God with our whole heart and to love others. If we do this, then God will give us the answer and blessing to partake in the cross. We are able to prevent the disasters of this world.
(3) Those who will stop the disasters
2 Timothy 3:1-5, 16-17 “3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” - Suffering will come to this world because mankind left God’s word. The moment Adam and Eve left God’s word, suffering came upon them and their generations. The world is becoming darker and darker. The word of God is disappearing from this world. Those who prevent disasters from taking over the world are the people of God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - The word of God was given to us to keep God’s law. We need to keep God’s law and make it as our bartizan. If we do this, then the blessing of the heavenly throne will come upon us. May these answers and blessings come upon us within the new year of 2024.
Conclusion
1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” - This was what Apostle Paul spoke about. This contains all of God’s love. This contains the word of God and the heart of an evangelist. May we be victorious. May we stand as victorious evangelists.
