서론
에쉴리 스미스 라는 여자가 쓴 <기적을 믿나요> 라는 자서전이 있다. 그 내용을 보게 되면 브라이언 니콜스 라는 범인이 살인혐의로 재판을 받던 도중에 경비경찰의 권총을 빠앗아 판사와 경찰 모두를 쏴 죽이고 도주한 사건이 나온다. 이 범인이 도망을 가다가 에슐리 스미스의 집에 들어간것이다. 그녀를 인질로 잡고 7시간 동안 대치하게 된다. 에슐리 스미스는 인질로 잡히게 되어 이제 나는 죽은 목숨이다 생각했다. 너무 살고 싶어 범인에게 살려달라 애원도 해 보았다. 당시 결박이 되어 꼼짝 못하는 상태였고 말도 전혀 통하지 않았다. 그렇게 꼼짝없이 죽겠구나 생각을 하던 그녀는 순간 생각을 바꾸었다. 내가 이렇게 잡혀 어짜피 죽을바엔 차라리 복음이라도 전하고 죽자 생각했다. 복음 전하다가 죽게 되면 그냥 죽자 하는 마음이 들었다. 그렇게 복음을 전하는데 이상하게 이 범인이 점점 더 자세히 듣기를 시작 하는것이다. 전하면서 그의 표정을 보니 말씀에 감동을 받는 표정이 보여 더 열심히 복음을 전했다. 마침내 그의 마음에 변화가 일어 7시간 만에 범인이 자수하게 된다. 이 범인이 손을 들고 나오면서 이러한 고백을 했다, “이 여인은 하나님이 나에게 보내신 천사였습니다”. 그 상황을 쓴 그녀의 자서전이 <기적을 믿나요> 이다. 이 사건을 보면서 참 그분도 대단한 믿음을 가졌다 생각했다. 또 마음속에 말씀에 능력이 참 대단하다 라는 생각도 들었다. 그 판사도 죽이고 경찰도 죽인 악독한 범죄자가 하나님 말씀을 듣고 자녀가 되었다.말씀에는 능력이 있다. 오늘 말씀이 바로 그러한 내용이다.
1. 하나님의 다른 것 God's Different Ways
(1) 생각이 다르다 His thoughts are not your thoughts

오늘 8절 말씀 보면, “이는 내 생각이 너희의 생각과 다르며 내 길은 너희의 길과 다름이니라 여호와의 말씀이니라” 되어있다. 먼저 “이는 내 생각이 너희의 생각과 다르며” 라고 하셨다. 왜 하나님께서 이런 말씀 하셨나. 지난시간 7절 말씀에 “그가 너희를 긍휼히 여기시리라" 하는 말씀에 답인것이다. 그들이 하나님이 긍휼을 주셔도 알아듣지 못했던것이다. 그들을 구원 시키겠다 말씀하심 에도 불구하고 알아듣지를 못하는것이다. 하나님 께서는 내 생각과 네 생각은 다르다 라고 말씀 하시는것이다. 세상 사람들은 악한 행위를 하다가 떠나게 되면 지옥에 가고 착한 행위를 하다 떠나면 구원을 받게 된다고 생각한다. 제가 지난 시간에 카톨릭 신자를 한명 만났다. 그 분이 제게 말씀 하기를 세종대왕이 구원을 받았다고 생각한다고 했다. 거기에 제가 죄송합니다만 지옥 갔을겁니다 라고 했다. 깜짝 놀라더니 그렇게 착한 일들을 했는데 지옥갔어요? 되물었다. 세상 사람들의 구원의 기준은 착한 일 했느냐 안 했느냐이다. 사람들의 생각을 사도바울은 롬 2:14-15 에 정확히 말하고있다, “(율법 없는 이방인이 본성으로 율법의 일을 행할 때에는 이 사람은 율법이 없어도 자기가 자기에게 율법이 되나니)”. 15절에는 그들의 양심이 그 증거라고 했다. 선과 악을 판단하는 기준이 자기의 율법이 되어 자기 양심에 기준을 두어 판단 하는것이다. 그런데 롬 5:13-14 보면 그것에 대해 더 이야기한다, “죄가 율법 있기 전에도 세상에 있었으나 율법이 없었을 때에는 죄를 죄로 여기지 아니하였느니라” 그러니까 죄가 율법이 있기도 전에 세상에 있었다는 말은 모세의 율법 전에도 원죄라는 죄가 있었음을 말한다. 이스라엘 백성들에게 이 율법을 주셨다. 그러나 이 율법이 있기 전에는 이스라엘 자신들도 죄를 죄로 여기지 않았다 하는 말이다. 그것이 무슨 말인가. 원죄를 모르게 되면 하나님 떠난것이 죄라는 사실을 모르는것이다. 그러니까 이 사람들은 자신의 양심에 판단 기준을 두고 선을 행하는가 악을 행하는가를 보고 판단 내리고 있는데 하나님 떠난것이 죄라는것은 모르는것이다. 그렇게 되면 어떠한 일이 생기는지 14절에 나온다, “그러나 아담으로부터 모세까지 아담의 범죄와 같은 죄를 짓지 아니한 자들까지도 사망이 왕 노릇 하였나니 아담은 오실 자의 모형이라.” 아담과 같은 죄를 짓지 않고 양심껏 깨끗한 삶을 살았음에도 다 죽어버린다. 사망이 왕 노릇 한다는 말은 결국 지옥 간다는 말이다. 그래서 이 양심이라는것은 무엇을 의미하나, 내가 죄를 지었구나 아니구나 선악을 알게하는 율법적인 역할을 하기 위함이지 아무런 다른 효과가 없다. 그래서 롬 3:20 말씀 보면, “율법으로는 죄를 깨달음이니라.” 라고 되어있는것이다. 율법을 이스라엘에게 주신 것은 엄청난 축복이다. 그 사람들은 죄가 있는지 전혀 모르고 그저 스스로 의롭게 산다고 믿는다. 하나님을 모르고 그것이 죄 인지를 모르니 선한 일을 하면 천국 가고 악한 일을 하면 지옥 간다 믿는것이다. 세상의 모든 종교 들이 이러한 사고방식 속에 만들어진것이다. 좀전에 말한 이 카톨릭 신자도 그러한 관점으로 이야기를 한것이다. 그래서 제가 롬 10:9 의 말씀을 전했다, “네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라”. 세상 모든 사람들과 우리들의 차이가 구원의 길 에서부터 있는것이다.
(2) 길이 다르다 His ways are not your ways
사 Isaiah 53:4-6
요 John 14:6
그리고 내 길은 너의 길과 다르다 라고 하셨다. 하나님께서 생각 하신 길은 무엇인가. 하나님께서 작정하신 구원의 길이 있다는 말이다. 사 53:6, “여호와께서는 우리 모두의 죄악을 그에게 담당시키셨도다.” 인간들은 도저히 생각 하지 못한것이다. 하나님께서 그리스도에게 인간들의 모든 죄를 담당하게 하신것이다. 사 53:4, “그는 실로 우리의 질고를 지고 우리의 슬픔을 당하였거늘 우리는 생각하기를 그는 징벌을 받아 하나님께 맞으며 고난을 당한다 하였노라”. 하나님을 모르는 사람들, 죄의 해결 방법을 모르는 사람들은 십자가에 예수님을 보며 아 저주받았구나 생각 한것이다. 하나님은 어떻게 하셨나. 53:5 말씀이다, “그가 찔림은 우리의 허물 때문이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄악 때문이라 그가 징계를 받으므로 우리는 평화를 누리고 그가 채찍에 맞으므로 우리는 나음을 받았도다” 인간과 하나님의 생각은 너무나도 큰 차이가 있는것이다. 예수님께서 창에 찔리시고 질고를 당하심은 전부 우리의 죄 때문이다. 징계를 받으신것도 우리의 영적문제, 정신 문제를 해결 하기 위하심이다. 예수님께서 채찍에 맞으신것은 우리의 질병과 문제를 다 해결하기 위하신것이다. 하나님께서 인간의 모든 문제 해결하실 길로 예수님을 보내신것이다. 그래서 예수님께서요 14:6에 말씀 하시기를, “예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라.” 인간의 그 어떠한 문제도 예수님 통하지 않고는 해결 될수가 없다.
2. 하나님의 높으신 것 God's ways are higher
(1) 하나님의 응답의 길 God's way of answering

9절에 이어서 말씀 하신다. 8절에는 다른것을 말씀 하시고 지금은 높으신것을 말씀 하신다, “이는 하늘이 땅보다 높음 같이 내 길은 너희의 길보다 높으며 내 생각은 너희의 생각보다 높음이니라.” 이 높으심은 무엇을 나타내나. 하나님께서 친히 당신의 보좌에서 응답 하시는 그 길 을 말한다. 사 43:7에 보면, “내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자 곧 내가 내 영광을 위하여 창조한 자를 오게 하라 그를 내가 지었고 그를 내가 만들었느니라.” 놀라운 말씀이다. 내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자, 내가 내 영광을 위해 창조한 자 라고 하셨다. 다시 말해 그의 이름을 부른 모든 자에게 하나님께서는 그를 통해 영광 받으시겠다 하시는것이다. 여기에 성경의 대표적인 인물로 다윗을 들고싶다. 다윗은 하나님의 이름을, 여호와의 이름을 세상에 아주 강하게 외쳤던 인물중 하나이다. 삼상 17:45 에 블레셋 사람들 앞에 선포한 말이다, “다윗이 블레셋 사람에게 이르되 너는 칼과 창과 단창으로 내게 나아 오거니와 나는 만군의 여호와의 이름 곧 네가 모욕하는 이스라엘 군대의 하나님의 이름으로 네게 나아가노라.” 세상 사람들의 문제 해결 하는 방법은 칼과 단창을 통해 스스로 나아가는것이다. 자기가 만들고 가진 도구들로 나아가는것이다. 다윗은 반면 무엇으로 나아갔나. 여호와의 이름이다. 이스라엘의 군대 하나님의 이름으로 네게 나아가노라. 엄청난 위협이 되는 칼과 단창을 든 거대한 골리앗이 여호와의 이름 앞에 무너지는것이다. 우리도 이 골리앗처럼 내 힘으로 도저히 안될거 같은 문제를 대면한다 해도 여호와의 이름 가지고 나아가면 문제 없는것이다. 예수님께서 중요한 말씀 요13:14에 하셨다, “너희가 내 이름으로 무엇을 구하든지 내가 행하리니 이는 아버지로 하여금 아들로 말미암아 영광을 받으시게 하려 함이라.” 우리가 이제는 여호와의 이름으로 예수님을 부르는것이다. 그러면 예수님께서 친히 행하시어 영광받으시며 엄청난 응답을 우리에게 주시는것이다. 그러한 현상을 보며 아버지께서 기뻐 하시며 영광을 받으신다는 말이다. 아들의 이름이 선포될때 흑암이 무너지고 병자가 고침 받는 것을 보며 하나님께서 영광을 받으시는것이다. 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 주신 아들의 이름으로 이 모든 역사가 나타나는것을 보고 하나님께서 너무나도 기뻐 하시는것이다. 그래서 눅 10:17 말씀 보면, “칠십 인이 기뻐하며 돌아와 이르되 주여 주의 이름이면 귀신들도 우리에게 항복하더이다.” 예수님이 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가시기 전 임에도 불구하고 제자들이 예수님 이름으로 선포 하니 귀신이 항복 하는것이다. 하나님께서 그 모습을 보며 얼마나 기뻐하시겠나. 능력에 능력을 더하시는것이다. 예수님 이름인것이다. 지금도 예수님 이름으로 기도하면 어떠한 흑암도 무너진다. 문제 있으신가? 예수님 이름으로 기도 하시기를 바란다. 반드시 하나님께서 영광 받으실 일이 일어날줄 믿는다. 흑암의 역사가 심한가. 예수님의 이름으로 선포 하시라. 질병 있으신가. 예수 이름으로 선포 하시라. 반드시 하나님께서 듣고 계신다. 우리의 기도 한마디도 빼지 않고 듣고 계시는 하나님이다. 하나님은 예수님의 이름이 선포 되기만 해도 너무 기뻐 하시고 즐거워 하신다. 응답 받으시는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
(2) 하나님의 높은 생각(뜻) God's higher thoughts (will)
출 Exodus 14:12-13, 21
마 Matthew 14:28-31
9절 마지막에, “내 생각은 너희의 생각보다 높음이라" 했다. 하나님의 생각은 우리의 생각과 비교할수 없이 높다. 하나님의 높은 생각은 하나님의 지혜와 권능, 바로 능력을 나타낸다. 하나님의 생각은, 워낙 지혜가 높으심으로 우리가 감히 추정 할수도 없다. 이스라엘 백성들이 출애굽 할때 홍해 바다를 맡닥뜨렸다. 뒤에 애굽 군대가 가까워오고 두려움에 이스라엘 백성들이 벌벌 떨기 시작했다. 출 14:12, “우리가 애굽에서 당신에게 이른 말이 이것이 아니냐 이르기를 우리를 내버려 두라 우리가 애굽 사람을 섬길 것이라 하지 아니하더냐 애굽 사람을 섬기는 것이 광야에서 죽는 것보다 낫겠노라” 거기에 모세가 말한다, 13 모세가 백성에게 이르되 너희는 두려워하지 말고 가만히 서서 여호와께서 오늘 너희를 위하여 행하시는 구원을 보라 너희가 오늘 본 애굽 사람을 영원히 다시 보지 아니하리라. 너희가 할것은 아무것도 없으니 가만히 서서 구경만 해 이 말이다. 우리가 스스로의 힘으로 하려면 할수록 일이 더 안되는것이다. 너희는 그냥 가만히 있으라 하는 말씀이다. 14:21, “모세가 바다 위로 손을 내밀매 여호와께서 큰 동풍이 밤새도록 바닷물을 물러가게 하시니 물이 갈라져 바다가 마른 땅이 된지라.” 이것은 이스라엘 백성들이 상상치도 못한 사건이었다. 당시 땅의 그 어떤 인간도 생각치도 못하던 하나님의 지혜와 방법 이었다. 우리는 그저 믿음만 지키며 따르면 되는것이다. 신약에도 물로 하신 기적이 나온다. 마 14:28-31에 예수님께서 물 위를 걸으셨다. 한 밤중에 깜깜한데 예수님께서 물위를 걸어서 오시는 모습을 보고 베드로가 유령이다 두려워 한것이다. 이에 예수님께서 두려워 말라 했다. 그 모습을 보며 베드로가 참 기가막힌 말을 한다, “베드로가 대답하여 이르되 주여 만일 주님이시거든 나를 명하사 물 위로 오라 하소서 하니” 베드로는 예수님께서 하나님의 아들, 그리스도라는 사실을 믿은것이다. 정말 하나님의 아들 주님 되시면 나를 물 위로 걸으라 하세요 하는 말이다. 제자인 베드로가 대단한 믿음을 가졌던것을 볼수있다. 그 믿음을 예수님께서 보시고 기뻐 하시며 오라 하신것이다. 여기에 “오라" 하는것은 하나님의 아들 아니면 할수 없는 일이다. 베드로가 믿고 정말 물 위를 걸어갔다. 성경에 뭐라고 되어있나, “오라 하시니 베드로가 배에서 내려 물 위로 걸어서 예수께로 가되 30 바람을 보고 무서워 빠져 가는지라 소리 질러 이르되 주여 나를 구원하소서 하니” 이어서 31절, “예수께서 즉시 손을 내밀어 그를 붙잡으시며 이르시되 믿음이 작은 자여 왜 의심하였느냐 하시고.” 정말 네가 나를 믿었더라면 의심 없이 걸어올수 있었는데 왜 그리했느냐 하신것이다. 불신앙이 생긴것이 바람 때문이었다 라고 나왔다. 보이지도 않고 인격도 아닌 그런 존재에 무서움이 들어 순간 불신앙에 빠진것이다. 저는 이 사건을 보면서 안타까운 마음이 들었다. 베드로가 끝까지 믿음 가지고 갔다면 나머지 제자들도 전부 물 위로 갔을것 같다. 저도 걸어가겠습니다 예수님, 하면서 다 물위를 걸었을것 같다. 제1 홍해의 기적은 땅바닥을 걸었지만 제2의 기적은 제자들이 물 위를 걷는것이 될수도 있었다. 여러분, 하나님의 높은 생각 지혜와 능력을 믿으시는 여러분 되시기를 기도한다. 도저히 불가능 해 보이는 문제도 주님만 의지할때 베드로 처럼 물 위를 걷는 역사가 실제로 있을줄을 믿는다.
3. 하나님의 뜻 God's will
(1) 하나가 되는 축복 The blessing to become one
고전 1 Corinthians 3:16
요 John 17:22
시 Psalm 37:5-6
그러면 여기서 우리가 한가지를 붙잡아야겠다. 인간과 하나님에는 너무나 큰 높음과 다름의 격차가 있다. 그러나 하나님은 그 격차가 없으시기를 바라신다. 그것이 하나님의 뜻인것을 우리가 고전 3:16을 통해 알수 있다. “너희는 너희가 하나님의 성전인 것과 하나님의 성령이 너희 안에 계시는 것을 알지 못하느냐.” 우리와 완전히 다르시고 상상할수 없이 높은 곳에 계시는 분이 지금 우리안에 계신다고 하는것이다. 이것을 누리게 되면 끝나는것이다. 믿으시는가. 요 17:22, “내게 주신 영광을 내가 그들에게 주었사오니 이는 우리가 하나가 된 것 같이 그들도 하나가 되게 하려 함이니이다.” 예수님께서 아버지로 부터 받은 모든 영광을 “내가 그들에게 주었다” 라고 하셨다. “주었사오니" 이미 주어졌다고 한다. 우리가 하나 됨과 같이, 성부 하나님과 성자 하나님이 하나 된것 같이 그들도 하나가 되게 함이라. 이것을 위해 하나님께서 우리에게 자녀되는 축복을 주신것이다. 그러면 우리는 주님의 모든 권세, 능력, 지혜, 힘을 누릴수 있는 축복 가운데 있는것이다. 그렇다면 우리가 해야 할 것은 무엇인가. 시 37:5-6이다, “네 길을 여호와께 맡기라 그를 의지하면 그가 이루시고 6 네 의를 빛 같이 나타내시며 네 공의를 정오의 빛 같이 하시리로다.” 앞으로 모든것을 주님께 맡기시기를 바란다. 나의 모든 두려움, 공포, 질병, 영적문제, 가문의 문제, 자식 문제 까지 다 주께 맡기시기를 바란다. 오늘 시편 말씀 통해 그를 의지하면 그가 이루신다 했다. 믿기만 하면 믿음의 광채가 나타난다. 그리스도의 영광의 광채가 나타난다 이 말이다. 그렇다면 우리가 해야 할 것은 하늘의 뜻만 찾고 하나님께 모든것을 맡기는것이다.
(2) 하나님의 뜻 God's will
살전 1The. 5:16-18
하나님의 뜻이 무엇인가, 살전 5:16, 항상 기뻐하라 - 무엇을 기뻐하나. 나는 구원받은 하나님의 자녀, 임마누엘로 함께하시는 주님, 이미 나는 언약의 흐름속에 있다는 사실 이것을 우리에게 주신것을 기뻐 하시기를 바란다. 두번째는 살전 5:17이다, 쉬지 말고 기도하는것이다. 오늘 강단 말씀 붙잡고 기도 하는것이다. 우리에게 기도 시스템을 주셨다. 일곱 망대와 일곱 여정과 일곱 이정표의 시스템을 기도의 시스템으로 주셨다. 쉬지 말고 기도 하시라. 세번째는 살전 5:18, “범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라”, 감사를 회복하는것이다. 날마다 베푸시는 은혜에 감사 하시라. 하나님께서는 여러분이 알든 알지 못하든 보이든 보이지 않든 계속해서 은혜를 베푸시고 계시고 우리를 통해 당신의 말씀을 성취하기를 원하신다. 언약만 잡으면 말씀이 반드시 성취 되는것이다. 날마다 주시는 영적인 힘에 감사 하시라. 응답받는 여러분 되시기를 바란다.
결론
골 Col. 3:2-3
골 3:2-3말씀이다, 저번에 학장님께서 전하신 말씀이다. 들으면서 우리가 은혜를 참 많이 받았다. 이 말씀 꼭 붙잡으시라, “위엣 것을 생각하고 땅엣 것을 생각지 말라. 3 이는 너희가 죽었고 너희 생명이 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 감취었음이니라.” 다 주님께 맡기고 주님 안으로 완전히 들어가시기를 바란다. 너희 생명이 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 감추었음이라 – 지금 우리 생명이 하나님의 품속의 있다는 사실 기억 하시고 이 축복 누리시는 여러분 되시기를 주의 이름으로 축원한다.
God's Different and Higher Ways (Isaiah 55:8-9)

“8 'For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Introduction
There is a woman named Ashley Smith and she wrote a book. The content of that book is about a criminal who was going through a trial. During the trial, he shot and killed a judge and police officer. The criminal went on a run and he entered a woman’s house, Ashley Smith, and held her hostage for hours. During the hostage, she pleaded with the criminal to let her go. The criminal tied her up and wouldn’t let her go no matter what she said. But the woman who was held hostage, she thought that she was going to die and will never leave but she changed her thinking. I am held hostage so let me not die in vain but let me share the gospel to this criminal before she dies. She thought that if she was going to die anyways, she thought that she should share the gospel before she dies. As she was sharing the gospel, the criminal started listening little by little, and he started becoming more moved as she was sharing the gospel to him. She poured her entire out to share the gospel and after 7 hours of being held hostage, the criminal gave himself up. The criminal held his hands up and confessed, “This woman is an angel that the Lord God sent him.” That is why the book is called, “Do you believe in miracles?” I realized that this woman, Ashley, had great faith. If you look at this in another way, you can see the power of the gospel and the word of God. This man killed a judge and an officer but through the power of the gospel, he was able to change. You can see the great power within the gospel. Today’s sermon is about this.
1. God's Different Ways
(1) His thoughts are not your thoughts
Verse 8 - Why did God say this? Last week, we spoke about how God spoke about how He will show His mercy to us. After God said that He will show us His mercy, we need to understand that God’s mercy is different from our version of mercy. God promised that He will save His people but His version of salvation is different. You need to understand that God’s thoughts and our thoughts are different. People of this world, they perform wicked deeds and leave this world. And many people of this world think that if they do good deeds, then they will go to heaven and those who do bad things will go to hell. Couple days ago, I met with a Catholic priest and this priest asked me if King Sejong went to heaven but I told this priest that he didn’t go to heaven. The priest was so surprised that this “good” king, King Sejong, didn’t go to heaven. This is what people of this world think.
Romans 2:14-15 “For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them.” - The way we judge ourselves and what is good or evil is by our own thoughts and self-consciousness.
But in Romans 5:13-14 “For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” - This means that original sin existed before the law. Before the law existed, sin was not considered sin to people. This means that if you don’t know original sin then you don’t know that being separated from God is a sin. People judge the law according to their own standards and thoughts. Even though people didn’t commit a sin like Adam, people will still face death and will go to hell. They are still sinners and will still go to hell even if they thought that they lived a good life.
Romans 3:20 “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” - God gave the Israelites the law and this is a great blessing that God gave to them. The Israelites didn’t know what sin was and thought that they were living a righteous life. The Israelites didn’t know what the gospel was and what sin was so they thought that if they lived a good life, then they would go to heaven. All religions in this world are living with these kinds of standards and thinking. This is the same thing the Catholic priest asked me.
Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” - You will be saved if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Christ, you will be saved. This is the only way to be saved. This is the different thinking that we have versus people of the world. The difference is how people view salvation. What God thinks of salvation is the most important.
(2) His ways are not your ways
Isaiah 53:4-6 “Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” - People of this world had no idea at all. Jesus Christ bore all of the sins of mankind but man didn’t know this at all. People who don’t know God, they don’t know how to solve sins and what the cross is. These people who saw Jesus Christ dying on the cross thought that Jesus was cursed. This is the difference between the thoughts of man and the thoughts of God. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins but people thought that He was being punished and He was cursed. Jesus Christ had to suffer and die on the cross for our sins. Jesus Christ had to be persecuted and had to die to show us the way back to meet God. This was the only way that God made for us, which was through Jesus Christ.
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' ” - No matter what problems mankind faces, the only way to solve these problems is through Jesus Christ alone.
2. God's Ways Are Higher
(1) God's way of answering
Verse 9 - Not only did God say that His thoughts and ways are different from us but it is higher. What does it mean by higher? God’s ways are higher which means that the way to answers are higher.
Isaiah 43:7 “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” - This is astounding. Whoever calls on the name of God, God’s glory will be shone. Those who call God’s name, His glory will be shown through them. The representative of this is David. King David always made sure to proclaim the name of God.
1 Samuel 17:45 “Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.' ” - This was the confession and proclamation of David before the Philistines and people. People of this world use worldly means to defeat and fight through the world; they use the tools that they make to fight through this world. But David was different, he used the name of God. He used the name of God, the God of Israel. He went before Goliath who was holding a great shield and weapon but with one shot, David knocked him down with the name of God. No matter how strong a problem may be, if you go out with the name of God then you will have victory.
This was what Jesus said in John 14:13 “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” - We call the name of God, the Lord and the name of Jesus Christ, and if we do this then God will be glorified and His power will come upon us. Not only that but God will be pleased and be glorified. When Jesus’ name is proclaimed, this makes God so pleased. All authority of heaven and earth comes upon Jesus when His name is proclaimed, this makes God so pleased and glorified.
Luke 10:17 “Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.' ” - Even though Jesus Christ died on the cross, His disciples went out and proclaimed the name of Jesus, and demons fled. This made God so pleased because His power was exalted. In the name of Jesus Christ, this is important. When you pray in the name of Jesus Christ, then all darkness will be broken down. Do you have a problem? Pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Then, works will arise where God’s glory will be exalted. Is there darkness in your life? Pray and proclaim in the name of Jesus Christ. Do you have a disease? Proclaim and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. God will absolutely work. God who is alive will listen to every one of your prayers. God is so happy and pleased when we proclaim and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. May you receive answers.
(2) God's higher thoughts (will)
Verse 9 - God’s thoughts are higher than us to the point where you can compare our thoughts to God’s thoughts. God’s thoughts comprises of God’s will, power, and authority. God’s thoughts are beyond our imagination and thinking. We cannot comprehend the wisdom that God has.
Exodus 14:12-13, 21 “Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.' 13 And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.' 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.” - The Israelites were standing before the Red Sea as the Egyptian army was chasing after them. During that time, the Israelites were trembling in fear and started yelling out in fear.
They were complaining and grumbling before Moses at that time but Moses replied in Exodus 14:13 - There is nothing for the Israelites to do but to just stand still. There is nothing that you can do or need to do at that time. How fast do you think you can build a boat to cross that Red Sea so Moses told them to stand still and see what God will do for them.
Exodus 14:21 - This was beyond what the Israelites even imagined would happen. No one even imagined that God would split the Red Sea. All you have to do is have faith and protect your faith.
Matthew 14:28-31 “And Peter answered Him and said, 'Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.' 29 So He said, 'Come.' And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, 'Lord, save me!' 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, 'O you of little faith, why did you doubt?' ” - This was the scene when Jesus walked on water. During the dark night, Peter saw Jesus walking in water towards them. They were so frightened and thought that Jesus was a ghost but Jesus told them not to be afraid because He was Jesus. Peter believed that Jesus was the Son of God and He was the Christ in Matthew 14:28. Peter had great faith back then. Jesus was pleased with Peter’s faith and commanded for Jesus to come. If you are not a Son of God, you cannot command people to walk on water.
Matthew 14:29-31 - If truly believed that Jesus was the Christ, why did you doubt Me? This was what Jesus asked Peter. Peter’s disbelief was because of the power of the wind. He couldn’t see at all during the night and felt the power of the wind so he doubted Jesus as he stepped into the water. I thought that this was unfortunate because if Peter didn’t have any doubt then he could’ve walked on the water along with all of the disciples on the boat. The Israelites walked on the ground of the Red Sea but the disciples failed to walk in water. This could’ve been a great story and event in the water. May you believe in the power of God, the power of God’s ways, and thoughts. Even if problems look impossible, if you just believe in God then the great power like walking in water will take place.
3. God's Will
(1) The blessing to become one
You can see the vast difference between God’s ways and thoughts, and our thoughts and ways. God is trying to make this difference more narrow. How does God try to do that?
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” - We are so different from God and God is way higher than us but God tells us that He is within us. If we enjoy this, then it is over. Do you believe in this?
John 17:22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.” - Jesus received all of God’s glory and power but Jesus has promised to give it to us. We have already received this power and authority. Just like how the Triune God is one, we are also one with the Triune God. For us to happen, God has granted us the blessing to become children of God. This means that God’s power, authority, and glory has been given to us. We already possess this and we are enjoying them. What should we do with all of this?
Psalm 37:5-6 “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.” - Entrust all things to God. All of your fears, problems, and illnesses entrust all of them to God. God tells us that if we trust in God then God will fulfill it. If we just believe in God, then God will show us our ways of our faith. This means that God’s glory will show when we show our decision of faith. What must we do now? We must find and follow God’s will.
(2) God's will
What is God’s will? 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - Rejoice is what? Rejoice that you are a child of God and God has saved you. Rejoice in the fact that God is with you and you are within the covenant. Rejoice in this.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray with the pulpit message. God has given you the system of prayer. Pray with the 7-7-7 prayer. Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Give thanks. Give thanks in every single thing for God’s grace. God has given to you grace whether you think that you deserve it or not. God has given you this message because God wants to fulfill His answers and blessings within your life. If God gives you His covenant and word, He will fulfill it no matter what. May you receive answers.
Conclusion
Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” - We received a lot of grace last week from this verse. Receive a lot of grace from this verse and hold onto it. Entrust all things to God and just enter into God. Your life is hidden in Christ in God. We are within God’s bosom. May we enjoy these blessings in the name of Jesus Christ.
