“사드락 메삭 아벳느고의 믿음"

“불의 세력을 멸하기도 하며 칼날을 피하기도 하며 연약한 가운데서 강하게 되기도 하며 전쟁에 용감하게 되어 이방 사람들의 진을 물리치기도 하며” (히브리서 11:34)
서론
어떤 목사님이 비행기 여행중에 옆자리에 있던 어떤 분에게 복음을 전하고 있었다고 한다. 복음을 전하는 도중에 비행기가 갑자기 난기류에 빠지게 되었다. 그러다가 비행기 왼쪽 날개에 엔진이 꺼졌다. 비행기 전기 장치도 불이 다 꺼져버렸다. 애를 쓰다가 도저히 안되겠다 싶은 조종사는 승객들에게 기내 방송을 했다고 한다. 여러분, 죄송합니다 지금 우리 비행기는 심각한 위험에 빠졌습니다. 이제 우리를 구할수 있는것은 하나님 한분밖에 안 계십니다. 그때 복음을 듣고 있던 그 사람이 목사님에게 이렇게 이야기했다고 한다. 목사님, 하나님께 빨리 살려달라고 기도하세요 라고 했다고 한다. 목사님이 그 이야기 듣다가 겁먹은 얼굴로, 아주머니, 상황파악이 안되십니까, 지금 기장이 하는 말은 하나님이 살려준다는 말이 아니라 죽을 준비를 하라는 말입니다 라고 말했다. 그때 당시의 목사님의 마음 상태를 대변해주는 말인것 같다. 성도들의 신앙상태를 언제 확인 할수 있는가, 문제나 위기에 대면했을때 참된 믿음 상태가 드러난다. 이 사람이 정말로 믿는 사람인가 아니면 아직 구원받지 못했는가 나타난다. 믿어도 세상적으로 사는 사람인가 아니면 정말 주께 온전히 맡기는 사람인가 알수있다.
1. 사드락 메삭 아벳느고의 믿음
1) 세 친구가 잡은 언약
오늘 본문 말씀 보게되면 불의 세력을 멸하기도 했던 믿음의 사람 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 에 대해 이야기 할것이다. 성경에 보게 되면 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 중요한 언약이 여러가지가 있는게 그중에도 중요한 언약이 출 20:5 이다. 너희들은 우상을 만들지도 말고 절하지도 섬기지도 말라 하시며 질투하는 하나님이니 죄를 3-4 대 까지 걸쳐 이르게 하신다고 한다. 현장에 많은 어려움을 당하는 사람들을 보면 90% 이상의 사람들의 부모님이나 자기 자신이 우상숭배의 배경속에 있던것을 알수가있다. 우상숭배 하는게 뭐가 그렇게 큰 죄인가 할수 있다. 오늘 출애굽기 20:5에 나를 미워하는 자가 바로 절하며 섬기는 자들 이라 하셨다. 우상숭배 하는 자는 나를 미워하는 자, 나랑 원수 된 자 라고 말씀 하시는거다. 우리가 이 말씀 잡고 우상숭배 하는 사람이 어렵구나 라고 생각할게 아니라 이것을 통해 축복의 길이 있구나 깨달아야한다. 우상에서 벗어나서 하나님께 나아가게 되면 하나님께서 축복을 하시겠구나 알아야한다. 그런데 이 말씀을 드린 이유가, 본문에 읽었다시피 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 있었던 시절에 우상숭배 하지 않으면 안되는 시기가 있었다는것이다. 느보갓네살이 금신상을 만들어 온 사람들에게 절을 하게 하고 그렇지 않으면 풀무불에 던지겠다 왕명을 내린거다. 이 이야기를 들은 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 는 어떻게 했나. 이 셋은 자기 나라 이스라엘이 우상숭배 때문에 멸망 당하고 포로로 왔다는 사실을 너무나도 잘 알고 있었다. 어떻게보면 우상숭배가 치가 떨리는 사람들이다. 그런 위기 가운데 만약에 안하게 되면 풀무불에 던져 태워버리겠다 하는것이다. 이때에 세사람이 다니엘 3:16 의 고백을 했다, “사드락과 과 메삭과 아벳느고가 왕에게 대답하여 이르되 느부갓네살이여 우리가 이 일에 대하여 왕에게 대답할 필요가 없나이다”. 두번 생각할 가치도 없다 말한거다. 그 이유는 우상숭배의 결과를 너무나도 잘 알고 있기때문에 그렇다. 사단의 본업은 도둑질 하고 죽이고 멸망하게 하려는것이라는 사실을 아니 아예 처음부터 단호하게 거절 한거다. 그런 위기 가운데 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 는 느부갓네살 왕 앞에 믿음을 보였다. 이것이 바로 전도자인 우리가 어떠한 상황에도 보여야할 모습이다.
2) 세 친구의 절대언약
단 3:14에 느부갓네살 왕이 말한다, 내가 세운 금 신상에게 절하지 아니한다 라는 말이 사실이냐. 너희들이 정녕 죽고싶으냐 물은것이다. 그 위기 가운데서도 이 셋은 17절에 말씀처럼 말한다. “왕이여, 우리가 섬기는 하나님이 계시다면 우리를 맹렬히 타는 풀무불 가운데서 능히 건지시겠고 왕의 손에서도 건져내시리이다”. 이 말인즉슨, 왕께서 지금 우리에게 죽이겠다고 말하지만 살리고 죽이시는것은 하나님이다. 하나님이 살리시자하시면 우리를 불속에 넣어도 구원하실것이고 인간의 삶은 하나님의 손에 있다 고백한거다. 믿으시는가. 굉장히 중요한 부분이다. 뿐만 아니라, 그리 아니하실지라도 왕이여 우리가 왕의 신들을 섬기지도 아니하고 왕이 세우신 금 신상에게 절하지도 아니할 줄을 아옵소서. 하나님께서 구하시지 않아도 금신상 앞에 절하지 않겠다, 죽는 한이 있더라도 하나님께만 경배 드리겠습니다 고백 한것이다. 이 이야기를 들은 느부갓네살은 전혀 이해가 되지 않았다.
2. 느부갓네살의 믿음
1) 느부갓네살의 체험
하나님께서는 왕에게 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 통해 말씀을 주셨다. 단 3:15 왕이 겁없는 말을 하는것을 볼수있다. “이제라도 너희가 준비하였다가 나팔과 피리와 수금과 삼현금과 양금과 생황과 및 모든 악기 소리를 들을 때 내가 만든 신상 앞에 엎드려 절하면 좋거니와 너희가 만일 절하지 아니하면 즉시 너희를 맹렬히 타는 풀무불 가운데에 던져 넣을 것이니 능히 너희를 내 손에서 건져낼 신이 누구이겠느냐 하니”. 너희가 섬기는 하나님이라 할지라도 내가 던지는 풀무불에서 구원할수 없다 하는거다. 하나님 모르는 사람은 겁이 없어 무슨 말을 하는지도 모른다. 그들을 그대로 불속으로 집어넣는다. 그때에 25절에 왕이 깜짝 놀랄 사건이 일어난다. “왕이 또 말하여 이르되 내가 보니 결박되지 아니한 네 사람이 불 가운데로 다니는데 상하지도 아니하였고 그 넷째의 모양은 신들의 아들과 같도다 하고” 분명히 결박해서 집어 넣었는데 그 속에 결박되지 않은 네명이 돌아다니는것을 본거다. “그 넷째 모양은 신들의 아들과 같도다”, 이것은 하나님께서 천군 천사를 보내 그들을 지키신것을 알수가 있다. 불구덩이가 아닌, 뜨거운, 성령충만과 보좌의 축복을 그 속에서 누렸다는거다. 보좌의 축복이 믿음의 사람들에게 임하는것을 볼수가 있다. 깜짝 놀라 왕이 충격 받은 보습을 볼수가 있다. 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 에게 왕이 나오라고 명령한다. 27절 말씀 보니, “총독과 지사와 행정관과 왕의 모사들이 모여 이 사람들을 본즉 불이 능히 그들의 몸을 해하지 못하였고 머리털도 그을리지 아니하였고 겉옷 빛도 변하지 아니하였고 불 탄 냄새도 없었더라” 라고 나와있다. 인간은 죽이려고 그렇게 노력 했지만 하나님께서 보호 하시니 전혀 영향받지 않는 상태로 보호 하신거다. 인간은 상상도 할수 없는 일이 눈앞에 벌어진거다. 역사적으로 실질적으로 일어난 사건이다. 시공간을 초월하는 역사가 우리 앞에도 일어나고 있는줄을 믿는다. 왜 그런가, 그때 일하신 하나님이 지금도 우리와 함께 하시고 일하고 계신다. 우리가 믿는 하나님이 같은 하나님이고 우리 삶속에도 시공간을 초월하는 하나님의 능력이 임하게 되어있다 이 말이다. 이 현상을 직접 본 왕은 충격에 빠졌다.
2) 느부갓네살의 변화
단 3:28에 “느부갓네살이 말하여 이르되 사드락과 메삭과 아벳느고의 하나님을 찬송할지로다 그가 그의 천사를 보내사 자기를 의뢰하고 그들의 몸을 바쳐 왕의 명령을 거역하고 그 하나님 밖에는 다른 신을 섬기지 아니하며 그에게 절하지 아니한 종들을 구원하셨도다.” 이 말씀은 굉장히 중요하다. 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 가 믿었던 하나님은 실제로 살아계신 하나님이고 그를 참으로 믿었다는거다. 그들이 말하는대로 하나님께서 듣고 계셨고 이루셨다는것이다. 여러분의 삶에도 이 증거가 나타나게 되기를 기도한다. 믿음의 고백을 하시면 그대로 응답될것이다. 하나님은 멀리 계시지 않고 실제적으로 우리와 함께하시며 도우시는 분 이시다. 정말 살아계신 하나님이라는거다. 내 마음과 생각 모든것을 알고 계시는 하나님이시다. 느부갓네살이 단 3:29 에 귀중한 메시지를 전한다. “그러므로 내가 이제 조서를 내리노니 각 백성과 각 나라와 각 언어를 말하는 자가 모두 사드락과 메삭과 아벳느고의 하나님께 경솔히 말하거든 그 몸을 쪼개고 그 집을 거름터로 삼을지니 이는 이같이 사람을 구원할 다른 신이 없음이니라 하더라” 이 사건을 통해서 바벨론에 속한 모든 족속과 세계에 여호와 하나님을 선포한것이다. 우리식으로 이야기 하면 여호와 하나님은 위대하신 하나님이다 라고 왕이 선포한거다. 그만이 참 하나님이시다. 실질적으로 고통속에 있는 자를 도우시는 참 하나님이라는것이다. 여기서 느부갓네살 왕이 하나님을 나의 구주 하나님으로 영접했는가 묻는다면 아니라는것이다. 말씀에 보면 하나님의 이름을 높이면서도 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고의 하나님이라고 말하는것을 볼수가있다. 그런 기적을 직접 보면서도 나의 하나님이 아닌 그들의 하나님이라고 고백 하는거다. 대단히 중요한 포인트다. 우리가 하나님은 믿는데 목사님의 하나님, 장로님의 하나님이 아니라, 나의 하나님이 되어야 한다는거다. 우리 목사님께 역사하시는 하나님, 그분에게 역사하시는 하나님 이 되어서는 안된다는거다. 그 하나님이 나와 함께 계시는데 그걸 모르고 왜 다른 사람의 믿음을 바라보냐는거다. 그 하나님이 나와 지금 함께 하시는데 왜 다른 사람의 하나님을 이야기 하느냐 이 말이다. 내가 그처럼 고백하고 기도하면 그대로 역사가 나타날텐데 왜 자꾸 다른 사람을 대상으로 삼느냐 이거다. 하나님께서는 이것을 보시고 4장에 보면 왕을 궁전에서 쫒아내시는것을 볼수가 있다. 지난 시간에 이야기 했듯이 왕은 정신병에 걸려서 7년동안 방황하며 고통받은것을 알수가 있다. 나의 하나님이 될때까지. 하나님께서 그 고백을 기다리신거다. 여기서 잡아야 할 메시지가 있다. 항상 응답하시는 하나님을 붙잡고 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 처럼 흑암이 무릎 꿇는 믿음을 가져야 한다. 만일에 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 가 느부갓네살의 말에 굴복하고 우상에게 절을 했다면 어떻게 되었을까. 그것이 바로 아담과 하와의 실패다. 모든 후손과 가문의 멸망의 원인이 된 사건이다.
3. 항상 응답하시는 하나님
1) 흑암이 무릎꿇는 믿음
엡 2:2 에 보게 되면 공중권세를 잡았기에 그렇다는거다. 불순종에 역사하는 영에 잡혔기때문에 그렇다. 이스라엘이 우상에 빠지자마자 엄청난 비극을 맞이하게 되고 포로로 오게 되었던거다. 순간적인 판단이 얼마나 귀중한 결과를 가져다주는지 아셔야한다. 정말 언약 잡으셔야한다. 그래서 이것을 너무나 잘 아는 다니엘과 세친구는 단 1:8 뜻을 정했다고 했다. 그때 단호하게 결단하면서 평생에 우상숭배 하지 않겠다 결론내린거다. 우리에게 죽음이 온다해도 우상 섬기지 않겠다고 했다. 그리고 언약속에서만 살겠다고 하는거다. 어떤 위협과 문제가 와도 모든것을 그리스도 언약통해 보고 언약만 잡겠다 한거다. 그 고백을 기뻐하시며 하나님은 다니엘과 세친구를 전도자와 선교사로 쓰셨다. 그들의 평생을 하나님께 영광돌릴수 있는 도구로 사용하셨다. 바벨론은 당시 최고 강대국이자 우상국가였다. 느부갓네살은 당시 최고의 마귀 종노릇에 쓰임받은거다. 그에게 복음을 주고 변화시켜서 하나님께 영광돌리게 한거다. 그리고 그것을 온세상에 선포하게, 하나님의 살아계심을 전하게 한거다. 그 어마어마한 계획에 네사람을 사용하신거다. 그렇다면 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 가 불구덩이 들어갔을때 죽어야 마땅한가 아니면 살아야겠나? 그들이 죽게되면 하나님께 영광이 전혀 되지 않는다. 살아계심을 증명 할수가 없다. 하나님의 계획을 위해서는 그 전도자들이 살아야하는거다. 시공간을 초월하는 역사를 보여주셔야 한다는거다. 하나님께서는 자신의 계획을 이루시기 위해 풀무불 가운데서 살려내셨다. 중요한 메시지다. 이것이 바로 우리가 누리는 전도자의 축복이다. 우리가 전도자의 언약을 잡고 있는 한 어떠한 문제 속에도 우리를 보호해 주신다는 사실이다. 비록 죽음의 위기에 처한다해도 구해주실것이다. 어떤 문제속에 있다해도 감사할이유밖에 없다. 왜 그런가, 불신자들에게 증거 해야 하니까. 세상을 살려야하니까. 여러분이 이 어마어마한 축복속에 있는줄을 믿는다. 어마어마한 축복속에 계신줄을 믿으시기 바란다. 그렇기에 더 언약 붙잡아야 한다. 항상 응답을 뛰어넘는 전도자가 되셔야 한다.
2) 응답을 뛰어넘는 사람들
단 3:6 “누구든지 엎드려 절하지 아니하는 자는 즉시 맹렬히 타는 풀무불에 던져 넣으리라 하였더라”, 우리에게도 그 누구도 도와줄수 없는 상황이 올수가 있다. 그때 어떻게 잡아야하나. 하나님께서는 영적인 플랫폼을 만들 기회로 주셨구나 라고 붙잡아야한다. 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 가 그것을 잡았다. 성삼위 하나님의 어마어마한 능력의 역사가 나타나는거다. 이 축복 누리시기를 바란다. 두번째는 단 3:24 이다. “그 때에 느부갓네살 왕이 놀라 급히 일어나서 모사들에게 물어 이르되 우리가 결박하여 불 가운데에 던진 자는 세 사람이 아니었느냐 하니 그들이 왕에게 대답하여 이르되 왕이여 옳소이다 하더라” 다시 말씀드리면 위기와 심각한 문제가 왔을때 하나님께 자신을 완전히 맡긴 사드락과 메삭과 아벳느고 인거다. 하나님께서는 그들에게 영적 파수꾼의 응답, 전도의 파수꾼의 응답을 주신거다. 그들이 말한 그대로 응답 주셨다. 이것이 3초월의 응답이다. 생명의 응답이 나타나고 전무후무한 역사가 나타나는거다. 이미 이 축복속에 이미 있으신줄 믿는다. 전도자에게 주어진 축복이다. 세번째 축복이다. 단 3:30 말씀이다 “왕이 드디어 사드락과 메삭과 아벳느고를 바벨론 지방에서 더욱 높이니라” 우리가 이 말씀을 들을때 아 믿음을 가지고 있었더니 그들이 출세했구나 이렇게만 생각하면 잘못된것이다. 우리는 영적인 눈을 떠야한다. 하나님께서는 우리를 전도의 축복 속에서 영적 안테나의 축복을 누리게 하셨구나. 왜 그렇나. 참응답의 축복을 주시기 위해서 그렇게 하신거다. 모든 사람들이 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고 믿음을 통해서 저 위치에 간것을 다 볼수가 있었다. 그렇게 안테나가 된것이다. 왜 안테나를 세우나? 그것을 통해서 많은 생명을 살리며 증거하게 하시려는거다. 단 4:37에 나타난 말씀이다, “그러므로 지금 나 느부갓네살은 하늘의 왕을 찬양하며 칭송하며 경배하노니 그의 일이 다 진실하고 그의 행하심이 의로우시므로 교만하게 행하는 자를 그가 능히 낮추심이라.” 7년동안 정신병으로 헤메다 나중에 하나님 은혜로 회복되고 돌아온 느부갓네살 왕의 고백이다. 자기가 그동안 정신병에 시달렸음에도 불고하고 그 행하심이 의로웠다 고백한거다. 어떻게 그럴수가 있나? 하나님을 만났기 때문에, 영원한 생명을 받았기 때문에, 아 내가 정신병을 겪었기 때문에 하나님을 만날수 있구나 감사할수 있었다. 이어서 중요한 이야기 한다, “교만하게 행하는 자를 그가 능히 낮추심이라” 감히 하나님 앞에서 내가 제일 인냥 교만했던 나를 깨닫게 하셨구나 고백 한거다. 이런 모습을 하나님께서 기뻐 하신다. 이것이 바로 전도자의 영적 안나테 역할감당 이다. 동일한 축복 누리시기를 믿는다. 이미 이속에 있으심을 믿는다.
결론
요일 4:18 말씀을 보시라. “사랑 안에 두려움이 없고 온전한 사랑이 두려움을 내어 쫓나니 두려움에는 형벌이 있음이라 두려워하는 자는 사랑 안에서 온전히 이루지 못하였느니라.” 여기 사랑안에 두려움이 없다고 하는 말은 그리스도의 사랑을 말하는거다. 그리스도의 십자가에서 네가 정말 죽었느냐 이거다. 그렇다면 두려움은 없다. 온전한 사랑을 통해서 모든 두려움은 떠나가 버린다. 만일에 이 믿음이 되지 못한다면 두려움에 형벌이 있을거라는 말이다. 그렇게 되면 하나님의 미워하는 자가 되며 그러므로 온전한 사랑으로 있지 못한다라는거다. 우리는 모든것을 하나님께 맡기고 주님만 의지하면서 영광돌리는 삶을 사는 사람이되기를 바란다. 사랑 안에는 두려움이 없다, 이 축복 받으시는 여러분 되기를 예수 이름으로 축원한다
The Faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Hebrews 11:34)

“Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.”
Introduction
There was a pastor who went on a vacation and there was someone he shared the gospel to on the airplane who was sitting next to him. But as he was sharing the gospel to the passenger, there was severe turbulence and the left wing’s engine went out as well as the electricity in the plane. The pilot made an announcement to the passengers saying, “Our plane is in severe danger, I am sorry. Only God can save us now.” When the passenger who was hearing the gospel from the pastor told the pastor, “Pastor, please pray to God to hurry up and save us.” The pastor who heard this replied with a frightened face, “Do you not understand the situation here? What the pilot is telling us is not to tell us to ask God to save us but to get ready to die!” At that time, I think the pastor was speaking from his spiritual state at that time. You can see the true spiritual state of believers during a time of problem or a crisis. You can tell if that person is really a believer or not during a time of crisis. If they do believe, do they live for the world or truly for God? When we look at today’s main scripture it is written about Daniel’s three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
1. The Faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
1) The covenant to which the three friends held
When we look at the Bible, there are times where God gives us His important covenant but one of the important covenants that God gave them was Exodus 20:5 “You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.” - When we meet people in the field, we can see that they have many sufferings and problems but it is all due to the fact that they are living in the midst of sin and the sins of idolatry within their family lines. People may ask what is so bad about idol worship but in this Biblical scripture, it says that those who worship idols are those who hate God. Those who worship idols are those who hate God. In other words, they are considered enemies of God. When we read this scripture, we should see people who worship idols as pitiful and they are in the midst of suffering but we should think about how we can receive blessings? We need to go towards the direction that we need to discard all of our idols and go before God. This scripture speaks this way because in the main scripture, it speaks about the period of time that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were living in. They were living in a period of time where they would be in danger, a crisis, and midst of persecution if they didn’t worship idols. King Nebuchadnezzar made an idol and made all of the people worship the idol or else they would be thrown into the furnace of fire. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego heard this, how did they respond? The 3 friends knew that the land of Israel was in the midst of captivity and path of destruction because they fell into the state of idolatry. If you look at this, the state of idolatry was what caused this crisis to come upon Israel. But they were in a situation and a time of crisis where if they didn’t worship the idols, then they would be thrown into the furnace of fire. But what did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego do?
It says how they responded in Daniel 3:5, 16 “That at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, 'O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.' ” - They boldly rejected King Nebuchadnezzar’s command. They told King Nebuchadnezzar that there was no way that they could worship the idols. Why was that? They knew what would happen to the land of Israel and to themselves if they did worship this idol.
The role of Satan is this in John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” - From the beginning, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego rejected this command of the king firmly and boldly. During this crisis, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego confessed their faith before the king. As evangelists who stand in front of nonbelievers, this is the state that our confession of faith must be in during times of crises and problems.
2) The absolute covenant of the three friends
Daniel 3:14, 17-18 “Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, 'Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?' 17 'If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.' ” - King Nebuchadnezzar confronted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego regarding their rejection of his command. What does this mean? King Nebuchadnezzar was trying to confirm if they really wanted to die? But how did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego respond?
Daniel 3:17 - What does this message mean? The king may kill Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego but who determines death and life is all within God’s hands. If God wants us to live, God will save us from the fire. The lives of mankind are within God’s hands and not in the hands of man, this was what they were boldly confessing before King Nebuchadnezzar. Do you believe in this? This is very important.
Daniel 3:18 - The 3 friends were confessing that it is not King Nebuchadnezzar who is in control of their lives or death but it is God who determines their death so that is why they concluded that they will not worship the idol. Regardless of the result, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego concluded that they will not worship the idol and will only worship God. When King Nebuchadnezzar heard this, he could not understand. In order to show the fulfillment of God’s word to King Nebuchadnezzar, God made sure to show evidence through Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
2. The Faith of Nebuchadnezzar
1) Nebuchadnezzar's experience
We can see that King Nebuchadnezzar responded to them in Daniel 3:15, 25, 27 “ 'Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?' 25 'Look!' he answered, 'I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.' 27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.” - Even if it was God who they served, King Nebuchadnezzar was saying that it was still him who would throw them into the fire. He was challenging God. You can see that nonbelievers say things without knowing the truth.
We can see an astounding event that occurred in Daniel 3:25 - They were thrown into the fire but they were walking around in the fire without getting hurt or killed. God sent an angel from heaven to protect Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. In other words, it wasn’t a furnace of fire but it was a place where the blessing of the heavenly throne of God was present. The blessing of the heavenly throne was present at that time. Everyone was so shocked. When the king saw this, he commanded them to come out of the furnace of fire.
Daniel 3:27 - Mankind tried to kill Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego but because God protected them, no one could do anything against them. What mankind could not even imagine happened to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This is the historical event that took place. This was the blessing of God’s great protection as well as transcending time and space that took place. Why is that? The same God who worked within Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is with us. God is with us. We are believing in this God. We can also experience the same power of transcending time and space in our lives. King Nebuchadnezzar who saw this great work in front of him, was so shocked.
2) Change in Nebuchadnezzar
King Nebuchadnezzar confessed in Daniel 3:28-29 “Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! 29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.' ” - This is a very important message. The God who Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego believed in was truly alive and the nonbelievers were able to witness this. May this evidence take place in our lives. If we make a confession of faith, then it will happen exactly as we confess it. May we experience this blessing. Our God is not just an imaginary God but our God is alive and is working in our lives. He is truly alive. He is God who knows all our thoughts, mind, and heart; and King Nebuchadnezzar realized this.
Daniel 3:29 - Through this event, all of the people in Babylon all confessed of God who Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego believed in. They were confessing and proclaiming that God is an amazing God and He is the True God. Because they realistically experienced this God, they saw that God will save people from persecution and crisis. Through this, King Nebuchadnezzar was able to witness this but we can see that he confessed God as only the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He didn’t confess God as his God. Even though he witnessed a great event, he didn’t accept God as his God but confessed of the great God as the God of only Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This is a very important message. When we believe in God, we need to make God our God not the God of our pastor or the elders. God who worked in history, we shouldn’t just confess of the God who worked for the great individuals in the Bible but we need to confess of God who is present in our lives right now. Because God of the Bible is within us and working within our lives. If we just confess of this, then great works will take place but the problem is that we are still confessing of the God of other people, not yours. When God saw the state of the confession of faith of King Nebuchadnezzar, we know that God allowed him to fall into severe mental problems and we know from the last sermon that he became insane for 7 years. The God that the word of God speaks about needs to become our God. God is waiting for this confession from you. Then there is a message that we must hold onto.
3. God Who Always Answers
1) Faith before which the darkness will kneel
God who is always working in our lives and we need to realize that our faith has the power to make darkness kneel before us. If Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did obey the king’s command and worshiped the idol, what would've happened? Because that was the cause of the destruction and failure of Adam and Eve. The cause of all mankind’s disaster and failure was due to the sin of Adam and Eve.
Ephesians 2:2 “In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.” - This all happened because of the prince of the power of the air as written in this Biblical scripture; referring to Satan. People are bound by the spirit of disobedience. When Israel fell into the state of idolatry, they fell into great disaster and became captives of another nation. That is why the decisions that we make are so important. We need to hold onto the true covenant.
That is why Daniel and his 3 friends knew this very well, Daniel made a resolution because he knew this was very important as seen in Daniel 1:8 “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” - They decided to never worship an idol even if death comes before them. They resolved to live only in the covenant even if any problem or crisis comes before them, and resolved to only follow after the covenant. When God saw their resolution, God was very pleased and raised Daniel and the 3 friends as great evangelists. God used them as evangelists to do evangelism. Babylon at that time was considered one of the most powerful nations and they worshiped idols. King Nebuchadnezzar was used as a tool by Satan to bring disaster to the land of Israel and Babylon. But it was part of God’s plan to show His covenant, glory, and that He is truly alive though Daniel and the 3 friends. When you look at this and if this is so, then when the 3 friends were thrown into the fire, should’ve they have lived or died? If they died, then God could not be glorified and there would've been no way to prove that God was truly alive. For God’s plan to be fulfilled, the 3 friends had to be saved and live. This had to show the great work and miracle of God. When God fulfills His covenant through His people, He will save them from any fire or crisis. This is a very important message. This is the blessing of the evangelists. When we hold onto the covenant, no matter what problem comes to us, God will absolutely protect us. Even if death comes before us, God will save you. No matter what problem comes to us, we can give thanksgiving. Why is that? This is because we must save the nonbelievers. We must save the world. May you truly enter into this. We are in the midst of a great blessing. Then, we must hold onto God’s covenant. We must become evangelists who transcend and surpass any answers.
2) Those who transcend answers
Daniel 3:6, 24, 30, 4:37 “ 'And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.' 24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, 'Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?' They answered and said to the king, 'True, O king.' 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon. 4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.” - For us, there may be problems where we feel like no one can save or help you. What must we do? You must hold onto that God is using that problem and crisis to establish the spiritual platform. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego held onto this. They experienced the great work of the Triune God. Enjoy this blessing.
Secondly, Daniel 3:24 - In other words, during a time of crisis and problem, they were speaking about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who entrusted all things to God. God was giving them the answer of becoming the spiritual watchman. God gave them an answer exactly as they confessed before King Nebuchadnezzar. This is the answer of the transcendence, light, and unprecedented answer. I truly believe that you are within this answer. This is the blessing of what evangelists should receive.
Thirdly, Daniel 3:30 - When we look at this message, we may think that because Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego obeyed God, they were promoted and gained great profit, but we must open our spiritual eyes. God has granted me a great blessing to become the spiritual antenna. Why is that? In order to bless us greatly, God will raise us up. Through the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, all people were able to see the state of their faith. People were all able to see them being an antenna. Why did the 3 friends become an antenna? So that they could save people around them.
Daniel 4:37 - This was the message that King Nebuchadnezzar finally confessed through God’s grace after he received healing from being in the wilderness, living as a mental patient. Even though he experienced a great mental affliction, he confessed, "...All of whose works are truth..." He was able to confess this because he was able to finally meet God and as a result, gave thanksgiving before God. He said something very astounding in this Biblical scripture as well, “...And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.” If we try to walk proudly before God and challenge God, God will allow you to see your pride and kneel before Him. This is what pleases God. This is what it means to be an antenna and an evangelist. May you enjoy this blessing. I believe that you are in the midst of this blessing.
Conclusion
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” - This is speaking about the love of Christ on the cross. We have truly died on the cross, isn't that right? If you have the true love of Christ, you should have no fear. Through this true love, all fear should disappear. If you are not able to experience this true love, you will experience fear. This is what it means to become an enemy of God and hate God. But we must entrust all things to God, confide in God, and give glory to God. Inside of true love, there is no fear. May you experience this blessing in the name of Jesus Christ.
