아브라함이 인정받은 믿음 (히11:17-19)
서론
제가 어떤 교회 다니는 신자인 의사의 간증을 들었다. 그 사람이 병원을 차리려고 돈을 꿔서 개업을 했다. 병원 문을 막상 열었는데 환자들이 많이 오지 않았다. 자연적으로 빚이 늘어나기 시작했다. 교회 다니는 집사님이니까 이 분이 하나님께 부르짖기 시작했다. 하나님 저 좀 도와주세요. 우리 병원에 빚이 늘어나고 있습니다. 많은 환자들을 보내주세요. 매일 하나님께 부르짖으면서 기도했다. 그런데 응답이 없었다. 그런데 어느날 내가 하나님께 기도를 잘못 드리고 있는 것 아닌가 하는 생각이 들었다. 지금 내가 하는 기도는 사람들이 많이 병이 들던지 사고가 나서 우리 병원을 찾게해달라고 기도하는 것 아닌가 했다. 그래서 하나님께 다시 기도했다. 하나님 아무래도 제가 그 동안에 기도를 잘못 드린 것 같습니다. 이제부터 올바른 기도를 드리고 싶습니다. 하나님 제가 어떻게 기도하면 좋겠습니까 하고 기도했다. 성령께서 그 마음 속에 감동을 주셨다. 너는 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 찾아오는 환자들을 사랑해라 하는 음성을 들었다. 또 너는 그들에게서 돈만 생각하지 말고 그들에게 기쁨과 건강과 평안을 주도록 노력을 해라 하는 음성을 들었다. 그리고 또 너는 오직 하나님의 영광만을 나타내라 하는 음성을 들었다. 그 응답을 받고 난 다음에 의사 선생님은 모든 것을 다 내려놓고 새로 시작하기 시작했다. 마음에 결단했다. 오직 환자에게 기쁨과 건강과 평안을 주겠다. 그리고 오직 하나님의 영광만을 생각하면서 손님을 맞이하겠다. 그렇게 하니까 손님이 많이 찾아오기 시작하더니 자기도 모르게 모든 빚을 다 갚어버렸다. 참 그 사람이 기도를 제대로 잘 한 것 같다. 우리가 하나님 앞에 다 내려놓으면 하나님께서 그 다음부터 시작하시기 시작한다. 이것은 응답받는 기본이다. 오늘 아브라함을 통해서 또 귀한 믿음을 하나님께서 보여주시는 것은 본다.
1. 아브라함의 시험
1) 하나님의 명령
히 11:17 아브라함은 시험을 받을 때에 믿음으로 이삭을 드렸으니 그는 약속들을 받은 자로되 그 외아들을 드렸느니라
하나님이 아브라함을 시험하셨다고 말씀하고 있다. 왜 시험했을까. 시험한 이유가 성경에 보게되면 나타나있다. 그 이유가 바로 창 22:2에 나타난다.
창 22:2 여호와께서 이르시되 네 아들 네 사랑하는 독자 이삭을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가서 내가 네게 일러 준 한 산 거기서 그를 번제로 드리라
지금 하나님께서 말씀하실 때 네 아들을 번제물로 드려라 말씀하신 것이 아니라 네 아들 네 사랑하는 독자 이삭을 번제로 드려라 하고 말씀하셨다. 지금 하나님께서 아브라함에게 네 자신이 갖고있는 영적상태가 이렇다는 것을 말씀하고 있다. 그러니까 아브라함은 이삭이 우상이다. 이삭은 하나님께서 주신 아들 아닌가. 너무 귀하고 감사하고 아들만 생각하는 것이다. 더구나 태어나면서부터 이삭에게는 언약이 보장되어있었다. 태어 나면서부터 최고의 축복이 보장된 상태에서 태어난 아이이다. 그런 아들이기 때문에 더 문제가 심각한 것을 아브라함은 몰랐다. 우리가 성경을 보게되면 하나님께서 귀하게 쓰시는 언약 잡은 자의 후손들 가운데서 실제로 어려움을 당한 사람들을 많이 볼 수 있다. 엘리 제사장의 두 아들은 완전히 실패했던 사람들이다. 더군다나 그 유명한 선지자 사무엘도 자식은 완전히 실패했다. 누구든지 언약 잡은 자라 하더라도 자식에 대해서 등한시 하고 복음을 떠나게 만들고 예배를 떠난 삶을 살게하면 그들에게 심각한 문제가 온다. 지금 하나님께서는 아브라함을 보면서 그 현상을 발견하신 것이다. 하나님께서는 뭐라고 하셨는가. 내가 이삭의 생명을 데려가겠다, 번제로 바쳐라 명령하셨다. 이런 예화가 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 아담도 생각해볼 수 있다. 하나님께서는 아담을 사랑하셔서 아내 하와를 선물로 주셨다. 그런데 이 하와에게 아담은 복음을 각인시키지 못했다. 하나님께서 허락해주셨으니까 하나님께서 알아서 하시겠지 하고 복음을 심어주지 않고 방심했던 것이다. 그 결과로 온 인류가 저주에 빠지는 엄청난 일이 일어났다. 우리 후대에게 복음을 어떻게 가르쳐야하는가에 대한 말씀을 다시 잡는 시간되시기 바란다.
2) 아브라함의 순종
그런데 이 명령을 받은 아브라함은 결단했다.
히 11:17 --그는 약속들을 받은 자로되 그 외아들을 드렸느니라
창 22:3 말씀에 보면 아브라함이 일찍 일어나서 두 종과 이삭을 데리고 나무를 패서 하나님이 지시하신 곳으로 갔다. 그런데 가면서 그냥 간 것이 아니라 오늘 본문에 보면 아브라함이 붙잡고 간 내용이 나타난다.
히 11:18 그에게 이미 말씀하시기를 네 자손이라 칭할 자는 이삭으로 말미암으리라 하셨으니
놀라운 말씀이다. 그러니까 가면서 그냥 간 것이 아니라 하나님께서 주시는 언약의 말씀, 창 21:12 말씀, 이삭에게서 나는 자라야 네 씨라 부를 것임이니라 하는 이 말씀을 딱 잡고 간 것이다. 무엇을 가르쳐주고 계신다. 어떤 문제가 올 수 있다. 어떤 문제가 온다고 하더라도 하나님께서 주신 말씀을 잡으면 거기에 해답이 들어있다. 그래서 19절 말씀에 그 결과가 나타난다.
2. 아브라함의 믿음
1) 여호와 이레의 응답
히 11:19 그가 하나님이 능히 이삭을 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리실 줄로 생각한지라 비유컨대 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 도로 받은 것이니라
살려줄 것을 믿고 갔다는 것이다. 그러니까 이삭으로 말미암아서 네 씨라고 하는 그리스도가 나타날 것이라는 언약을 주셨기 때문에 이 아이는 틀림없이 산다는 확신을 갖고 갔다는 것이다. 아브라함이 잡은 것도 대단하다. 말씀을 잡고 확신을 갖고 간 것이다. 창 22:5에 모리아 산으로 가다가 가깝게 되니까 종들에게 하는 이야기가 나온다.
창 22:5 이에 아브라함이 종들에게 이르되 너희는 나귀와 함께 여기서 기다리라 내가 아이와 함께 저기 가서 예배하고 우리가 너희에게로 돌아오리라 하고
여기서 우리가 특별히 주목해야할 단어가 우리가 너희에게로 돌아오리라 하는 말씀이다. 그러니까 아브라함은 분명히 살리실 줄을 믿고 있었기 때문에 반드시 이삭과 내가 돌아올 것이라는 확신을 갖고 있었던 것이다. 창 22:10 말씀을 보면 정말로 이삭을 단 위에 올려놓고 칼로 찔러 죽이려고 했다.
창 22:10 손을 내밀어 칼을 잡고 그 아들을 잡으려 하니
그러니까 아브라함은 조금도 주저하지 않고 아마 그때 이삭이 아버지 저를 지금 죽이시려고 합니까 물어본다면 걱정하지 마라 네가 죽어도 분명히 하나님께 살리실거야 하고 말할 것을 준비하고 칼을 들었을 것이다. 말씀에 대한 확신을 갖고 찌르려고 칼을 든 것이다.
창 22:11 여호와의 사자가 하늘에서부터 그를 불러 이르시되 아브라함아 아브라함아 하시는지라 아브라함이 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다 하매
이 말씀을 보면 하나님이 보고계신 것이다. 얼마나 확신을 갖고있었으면 죽이려고 하니까 손대지 말라고 하신다. 그러니까 아브라함이 자기 아들 이삭의 결박을 풀어서 내려놓는다. 그런데 그 다음 말씀이 아주 기가막힌다.
창22:13 아브라함이 눈을 들어 살펴본즉 한 숫양이 뒤에 있는데 뿔이 수풀에 걸려 있는지라 아브라함이 가서 그 숫양을 가져다가 아들을 대신하여 번제로 드렸더라
여기서 중요한 단어들이 많이 나타나는데 제일 먼저 관심을 가져할 부분이 아브라함이 눈을 들어 살펴봤다는 것이다. 우리 같으면 이삭을 풀어내서 감사합니다 하고 내려갈텐데 아브라함은 그러지 않았다는 것이다. 이삭을 내려놓고 난 다음에 살펴봤다고 했다. 제물을 찾는 것이다. 그러니까 뒤에 양이 뿔이 걸려있는 것을 발견한다. 아브라함의 마음은 그러면 그렇지, 이삭 대신에 번제드릴 제물이 여기있구나 하고 잡아서 번제를 드린 것이다. 하나님께서는 반드시 예배를 받으신다. 예배는 반드시 제물이 있어야한다. 그 제물에 이삭을 드려야할텐데 대신 수양을 드리고 기쁨으로 하나님께 영광돌린 것이다. 그래서 여호와이레로, 하나님께서 친히 준비하신 제물로 영광을 드린 것이다. 그래서 말씀하신다. 아들을 대신하여 번제로 드렸더라. 분명히 이삭이 죽어야할 번제단 위에 양이 대신 올라가서 희생을 당했다. 이것이 바로 성경을 통해서 대속의 비밀을 정확하게 말씀해주시는 것이 여기서부터 나타난다. 여호와이레로 준비하신 양이 무엇을 상징하는가. 바로 그리스도를 상징하고 있다. 이것을 설명하기 위해서 이런 사건을 일으키셨다. 우리 모든 인간은 죄로 인해서 반드시 죽어야만 한다. 하나님께서는 죽어야만 하는 우리를 살리시기 위해서 여호와이레로 준비하셨다. 바로 그 분이 그리스도이시다. 여호와이레로 준비하시는 그리스도는 창세전에 준비하신 그 분이었다. 이 복음이 얼마나 놀라운 사실인가. 그래서 오늘 말씀에 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 도로 받은 것이라 하고 말씀하고 있다. 단순히 이삭이 번제단 위에 올라갔다 내려온 것이 아니라 생명이 죽었다가 다시 살아난 것을 의미한다고 말씀하시는 것이다. 이삭이 부활한다는 것은 우리도 이삭처럼 부활이 될 것이라는 말이다. 왜 여기서 이 말씀을 하고 있는가.
2) 부활신앙
우리는 죽음이라는 것이 대해 생각해보아야한다. 죽음 앞에는 세상 그 누구든지 굴복할 수 밖에 없다. 어떤 왕이던지, 재벌이라던지, 어떤 영웅이라고 해도 다 죽음 앞에 무릎을 꿇는다. 바로왕, 네로황제, 아무리 유명하다고 해도 죽음 앞에서는 꼼짝 못했다. 세상에 그 유명한 독제자들, 나폴레옹, 히틀러 같은 사람들도 죽음 앞에서는 꼼짝 못하고 죽어갔다. 죽음의 세력 앞에 당할 자는 그 누구도 없다. 그런데 죽음보다 더 강력한 파워가 있다는 것이다. 그 파워가 무엇이냐. 부활의 힘이라는 것이다. 예수님께서 죽음의 결박을 끊고 부활하신 순간에 모든 죽음의 세력이 무너진 것이다. 그 어마어마한 죽음의 세력, 그 누구도 무릎을 꿇을 수 밖에 없는 죽음의 세력을 예수님께서 십자가에 부활하심으로서 완전히 무릎을 꿇게 하셨다. 완전히 새 생명으로 태어난다. 어떤 사람은 암으로 죽을 때 바짝 말라서 새카맣게 되어서 죽어가는 것을 제가 본 적이 있다. 어떤 사람은 고통 가운데서 몸이 다 헐어서 비참하게 죽어가는 모습도 보았다. 그런 죽음을 당했다고 하더라도 부활의 능력은 완전히 치유된, 깨끗한, 변화된 새로운 모습으로 탄생시킨다. 예수님의 부활을 통해서 어마어마한 부활의 능력의 역사가 우리에게 나타난다.
고전 15:55, 57 사망아 너의 이기는 것이 어디 있느냐 사망아 너의 쏘는 것이 어디 있느냐 57 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 이김을 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니
어떤 사망의 권세 흑암의 권세도 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 이기신 부활의 능력 앞에서는 다 무릎을 꿇는다. 사도바울이 얘기했다. 우리에게 이김을 주시는 하나님께 감사하노라. 당연히 우리가 받은 것인줄로 믿는다. 그런데 여기서 중요한 것이 있다. 이 부활의 능력은 죽어서만 누리는 것이 아니라 이 땅에서도 누릴 수 있다.
3. 렘넌트의 축복
1) 인생의 전환점
이번에 1강 메세지에서 나왔다. 우리가 받아야할 축복이 무엇인가. 인생의 전환점을 잡아야겠다. 아브라함에게 하나님께서 하시는 말씀이다.
창 22:12 사자가 이르시되 그 아이에게 네 손을 대지 말라 그에게 아무 일도 하지 말라 네가 네 아들 네 독자까지도 내게 아끼지 아니하였으니 내가 이제야 네가 하나님을 경외하는 줄을 아노라
이 말씀을 아브라함만 들었겠는가. 그 옆에 있던 이삭도 들었다. 번제단 위에서 죽음의 위기 가운데 빠질 때 하나님 음성을 들었던 것이다. 아마 이삭은 평생 이 사건을 잊지 못했을 것이다. 이 사실은 이삭 뿐 아니라 야곱도 알고있었고 요셉도 알고있었다. 우리도 알고 있으니 그 분들도 당연히 알고 있었겠지. 요셉의 삶을 보게되면 항상 언약잡은 자를 위해서 여호와 이레로 항상 준비하신 다는 사실, 반드시 말씀을 성취하신다는 사실을 확실히 잡고 살아갔던 것을 볼 수 있다. 야곱도 그렇고 요셉도 항상 살아계신 하나님을 누리면서 살았다. 이 임마누엘, 여호와 이레를 알고있는 요셉에게 하나님께서는 창 37:9 말씀에 꿈을 주셨다.
창 37:9 요셉이 다시 꿈을 꾸고 그의 형들에게 말하여 이르되 내가 또 꿈을 꾼즉 해와 달과 열한 별이 내게 절하더이다 하니라
해와 달과 열한 별이 자기에게 절하는 것을 본다. 요셉은 하나님께서 나를 통해서 하실 계획이 있으시구나 분명히 잡게되는 것이다. 요셉은 어디를 가던지 여호와 이레로 하나님께서 준비하셨다. 그래서 세상을 정복한다. 여러분 요셉 뿐 아니라 모세도 마찬가지이다. 이 사실을 너무나 잘 알고있었다. 살아계신 하나님을 항상 알고있었다. 이 분이 드디어 불로 나타나셨다.
출 3:10 이제 내가 너를 바로에게 보내어 너로 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 애굽에서 인도하여 내게 하리라
다시 말씀 드리면 언약을 아는 렘넌트에게 하나님께서는 말씀을 주심으로 인생의 전환점을 만드시는 것이다. 저는 여러분들에게 오늘 잡은 메세지를 통해서 중대한 인생의 전환점이 되는 귀한 시간 되기 바란다. 서론에서 의사도 음성 하나 듣고 응답하나 받아서 자기 모든 문제를 해결했는데 언약잡은 우리가 잡게되면 완전 우리를 변화시키신다. 여러분들이 말씀을 잡는 그 순간에 완전히 새롭게 시작되는 귀한 시간이 될 줄로 믿는다. 그렇다면 정체성을 확실히 붙잡아야겠다.
2) 정체성 회복
우리는 아무도 도와주지 않는 현장으로 갈 수도 있다. 아무것도 볼 수 없는 열악한 현장, 문제와 재앙만 있는 현장으로 갈 수도 있다. 왜 그런데 보내시는가. 하나님만 바라보라는 것이다. 그리스도께 답이 있다는 것이다. 요셉은 이것을 붙잡았을 때 어딜 가든지 승리했다. 사도바울도 이야기했다.
고후 1:9 우리는 우리 자신이 사형 선고를 받은 줄 알았으니 이는 우리로 자기를 의지하지 말고 오직 죽은 자를 다시 살리시는 하나님만 의지하게 하심이라
왜 그런가. 여러분들에게 축복을 주시기 위해서. 응답을 주시기 위해서. 정말 언약 잡으시기 바란다. 우리가 하나님의 방법을 항상 생각해야한다. 오직 말씀을 잡아야한다. 말씀으로 편집하라는 것이 말씀을 잡아야된다는 것이다. 그리고 유일한 방법은 기도이다. 기도밖에 없다. 성령의 권능을 받아야한다. 그렇게 되면 가는 곳곳마다 재창조의 역사가 나타나게 될 줄로 믿는다. 이것은 여러분들에게 이미 보장되어있는 것이다. 이 언약을 왜 자꾸만 여러분들에게 주시는가. 하나님 음성 아닌가. 너희들에게 축복이 보장되어있다, 받아라 하고 자꾸만 말씀 주시는 것이다. 우리가 이것을 잡게되면 누려지는 것이 있다.
3) 해야할 증언
분명히 하나님께서 만드시 내가 보여진다. 나는 하나님의 자녀가 되었구나. 자녀된 신분과 권세를 실질적으로 누리게 된다. 그냥 하나님의 자녀네요 하고 아는 것이 아니라 실질적으로 누리게 된다. 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서 내게 주신 나의 것이 보이기 시작한다. 하나님께서는 우리를 상속자로 삼으셨다. 예수 그리스도를 영접하는 순간에 우리는 상속자로서 상속을 받았다. 이것을 통해서 하나님이 원하시는 기업을 세워나가신다. 이것을 통해서 여러분들의 달란트를 발견하게 된다. 여러분들의 학업이나 기업을 통해서 하나님께서 주신 것이 보여지는 축복의 역사가 나타나게되길 바란다. 그렇게되면 하나님께서 나에게 주신 현장이 보이게 된다. 왜 보여주시는가. 하나님께서 나를 그리스도의 대사로 삼으시려고 작정하셨기 때문이다. 현장을 살려라, 부활시켜라, 죽어가는 자를 살려라, 모든 사람을 살려내라는 것이다. 이것은 여러분들에게 주어질 응답인 줄로 믿는다. 여러분들이 말씀을 통해서 확실히 잡고 전화점이 시작되면 자연적으로 나타나는 응답인 줄로 믿는다.
결론
사 60:1 일어나라 빛을 발하라 이는 네 빛이 이르렀고 여호와의 영광이 네 위에 임하였음이니라
여러분들에게는 이미 빛이 임하였다. 여러분들은 이미 빛이다. 하나님의 놀라우신 영광이 이미 여러분들에게 임했다. 빛만 비추면 모든 세상이 밝게 빛나게 될 줄로 믿는다.
Abraham's Faith for Which He was Commended (Hebrews 11:17-19)

“17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 of whom it was said, 'In Isaac your seed shall be called,' 19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.”
Introduction
I listened to a testimony of a doctor who was attending church. This doctor in order to give the hospital money, he borrowed money to establish a hospital. But when he raised the hospital, not many patients came to his hospital. Because he didn’t have enough patients, he ended up building up debt. Because he was a deacon at a church, he started praying to God and asking God to help him. He told God that his debt was increasing so please send many patients to his hospital. He prayed this prayer every single day. One day, God gave him an answer. The doctor realized one day that he was praying wrong. The prayer that I am praying to God, this is asking God for people to be sick because then patients will visit my hospital. So the doctor prayed a new prayer to God. He confessed to God that he was spraying the wrong prayer and he said that he wanted to do an upright prayer before God. He asked God what kind of prayer that I needed to have before God. At that time, the Holy Spirit inside of him moved his heart. With the love of God inside your heart, love your patients. That was the voice of God that he heard. Don’t think too much about money but think about the happiness, peace, and health that you can give to your patients. Think only about giving glory to god. This was the voice of God that he heard. When he received these answers, the doctor discarded everything and laid everything down, and had a new start. He made a resolution in his heart to give only peace, happiness, and health to his patients. He also confessed that he will take care of patients by giving only glory to God alone. When he started to do this, many patients started visiting him and when he looked back, he realized that he was able to pay all of his debt. I think this deacon, doctor, was able to have the correct prayer. When you lay everything down, then God will start. This is the basics for receiving answers. For Abraham, he could see that God showed faith to him.
1. Abraham's Test
1) God's command
Verse 17 - When you look at this passage, it said that God tested Abraham. Why did God test Abraham? What was the reason?
The reason is seen in the Bible in Genesis 22:2 "Then He said, 'Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.' " - God didn’t just tell Abraham to sacrifice his son but to sacrifice Abraham’s only and most beloved son, Isaac. God was showing Abraham his spiritual state. For Abraham, Isaac, his son was his idol. Regarding Isaac, he was someone that God gave to Abraham. When Abraham always thought about his son, Isaac, he truly loved him and was so grateful for. When Isaac was born, God’s covenant was guaranteed to him. The greatest blessings were guaranteed for Isaac when he was born. But this son, Isaac, this was a tremendous son for Abahram but Abraham was blinded by his love for his son, Isaac. When you look at the Bible, the descendants for the people of the covenant, you can see that many hardships came to those descendants and children. When you look at Eli, he was a prophet but his son was an absolute failure. Also for Samuel, his child was also an absolute failure. Even though these individuals were inside the covenant, if you leave the covenant, then great hardship and failure came upon their children. When God saw Isaac, he was able to see Abraham’s problem. That is why God asked Abraham for Isaac’s life and commanded him to sacrifice his son. There were so many instances like this in the Bible.
If you look at Adam. God loved Adam very much so he gave Adam, Eve as a gift. But Adam failed to imprint the gospel in Eve. God allowed Adam to have Eve but he didn’t think much about imprinting the gospel to Eve and thought God will take care of Eve. As a result, we can see that great curses and disasters came upon Eve and their descendants. We need to think deeply about how we need to imprint the gospel to our descendants.
2) Abraham's obedience
Verse 18 - Abraham who received this command from God to sacrifice his son, he made a resolution to give up his son to God.
Genesis 22:3, 21:12 “So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 21:12 But God said to Abraham, 'Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called.' ” - Early in the morning, Abraham packed up his things and took his son to the mountain to sacrifice him. He didn’t just depart but we can see the content of what Abraham held onto when he went to sacrifice his son.
He held onto the covenant of Genesis 21:12. What is this telling us? We may face problems but when a problem comes to us, if we hold onto God’s word then answers will be given to us no matter what.
2. Abraham's Faith
1) The answer of Jehovah Jireh
Verse 19 - Abraham went to sacrifice his son believing that God will raise Isaac back to life. He held onto the covenant of Jesus Christ so he had assurance that God will raise up Isaac no matter what. What Abraham held onto was tremendous, he had absolute assurance of God’s covenant and word.
Genesis 22:5, 10-11, 13 "And Abraham said to his young men, 'Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.' 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' So he said, 'Here I am.' 13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son." - This was what Abraham told his servants in Genesis 22:5. From here, there is a word that we must focus on. Ahraham said that, “we” will come back. Abraham had faith that God will raise up Isaac no matter what even if he killed his son.
Genesis 22:10 - Abraham as commanded by God was about to kill his son. He didn’t hesitate at all but I am sure Isaac asked his father if he was about to kill him. But I am sure Abraham told his son that God will raise him back to life. Abraham had absolute faith in God’s word and promise so he was about to kill his son. But at that time, the angel of God called out to Abraham and stopped him. When you look at this word, you can see that God was watching him. When Abraham was truly about to kill his son, God was watching Abraham and commanded him to stop. That was when Abraham loosened the ropes off of Isaac and let him go.
But what happened afterwards was astounding as seen in Genesis 22:13 - He took the ram that was prepared for him and sacrificed the ram on the behalf of Isaac. There is a very important word from here. We can see that Abraham lifted his eyes and he saw the prepared ram. If it was us, we would’ve taken our son off the altar and thanked God, and gone back down from the mountain. But Abraham didn’t do that at all and he looked around for an animal sacrifice, and at that time, he saw a ram caught in the thicket by the horns. Abraham’s heart was giving a sacrifice to God on the altar. It was because God was absolutely going to prepare a sacrifice for Abraham no matter what. This was because when it came for worship, there had to be a living sacrifice. Because Isaac wasn’t sacrificed, the animal sacrifice was prepared and they were able to give worship to God. Through that prepared ram, they were able to give glory and worship to God.
Genesis 22:13 - On the behalf of Issac, the ram was prepared and died on his behalf. This is what we call God's absolute repentance. The ram represents Jesus Christ. In order to explain this, God allowed this event to happen. For our sins, we had to die but in order to save us from death, God prepared a separate sacrifice on our behalf. That sacrifice was Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ who was prepared for us, He was prepared for us even before creation. This is a great blessing.
2) The resurrection faith
Verse 19 - Isaac didn’t just simply get off the altar but his life was taken away from him and given back to him. In other words, the resurrection of Isaac means that we also will experience and have resurrection. Why was this message given? We need to think about something important here. Standing before death, no one can do anything before it. No matter what kind of king or wealthy individual you are, everyone will face death and has no choice but to surrender before death. All of the great emperors in history, they all faced and kneeled before death. Even Emperor Nero who committed horrible things and thought he was almighty, he even faced death. All mankind has no choice but to surrender before death. But there is a power that is more powerful than death. That is the power of resurrection. Jesus Christ overcame the bondage of death and resurrected, and He finished death. Death was something that mankind had no choice but to completely surrender to, Jesus made death surrender before Him. This was the new life. There are people who die from cancer and when you see them before they die, they look very skinny and just look like bones. These patients, their bodies have withered away before their death. But even if they face this kind of death, they will experience the power of resurrection to replenish their new bodies and give them a new life. Jesus Christ has given us the power of new life.
1 Corinthians 15:55, 57 " 'O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?' 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - No matter what kind of darkness or problem comes to us, no one has no choice but to kneel before the power of life and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is why Apostle Paul confessed that we must give victory through Jesus Christ who has given us the power of life and resurrection. We have been given this to us.
We can not only enjoy this after death but we can enjoy this even now. This was what was spoken about during the World Remnant Conference (WRC) lecture 1. If we want to receive answers, there is a turning point we must experience.
3. The Blessing of Remnants
1) Life's turning point
Genesis 22:12, 37:9 “And He said, 'Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.' 37:9 ” - Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, 'Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.’ ” - This is what God was saying to Abraham. Not only did God say this to Abraham but Isaac heard this as well. Isaac who was before death, heard the voice of God. I am sure Isaac would’ve never forgotten this event for the rest of his life. Not only did Isaac know of this but Jacob, Joseph heard of this story as well. If they heard this story, we also know this story as well.
When we look at Joseph’s life. We can see that God prepares for his children of God and people who have the covenant. They were able to experience that God was with them and is alive and working.
Joseph who knew of Immanuel, God gave Joseph the dream as seen in Genesis 37:9 - He saw the sun and moon bowing down to him. Joseph knew that God had a plan for him so he held onto this plan of God. Wherever Joseph went, he saw God’s great plan for him. That was why he was able to conquer the world.
Not only for Joseph but for Moses, he knew for his truth as well. He was always aware of the God who was alive but one day, he realized God’s covenant. He received the covenant of Exodus 3:10 "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." - In other words, God gives His word to those who have the covenant and makes a turning point in their lives. The word of God that God has given to us today, we must make a turning point in our lives and I pray that this turning point will take place in your life. Just like in the introduction, the doctor heard the voice of God and received God’s answers so if we pray before God then God will give tremendous answers. The moment you hold onto the covenant and the word of God, you will have a new start in your life. If that is so, we must hold onto our true identity.
2) Restoration of identity
We may go to the field where no one can help us. We may see the desolate fields where no one can help the people in those fields and disasters have befallen in those fields. Why would God send to your fields? So you can look up to God alone and find God's answers. Because Joseph held onto this, he received answers wherever he went.
2 Corinthians 1:9 "Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead." - This was what the Apostle Paul confessed. Why is this? In order to bless us. In order to give us answers. Truly hold onto the covenant. We must think about God's methods. We must hold onto only the word of God alone. The unique method is only through prayer. Prayer is the only way. We need to receive the power of the Holy Spirit. If we do this, wherever we go, the work of recreation will take place. This is guaranteed for you. Why does God keep giving you the covenant?
3) Testimony to give
The me that God made - This is God’s voice for you. The blessings are guaranteed for you and God is wanting you to receive these blessings. If we hold onto the Holy Spirit, then we can enjoy this blessing. This is when God will reveal things to us. I am a child of God. We can enjoy our status and identity as a child of God. We are not just merely children of God but we can realistically enjoy this truth and fact.
The things that God gave to me - Not only that but God will show us what belongs to us. God has called us as his heirs. The moment we accept Christ, we become God’s heir and this is God’s gift to us. Through this, may we follow God’s mission. Through this, we can find our talent. Through your occupation and talent, I pray that you may find what God has prepared for you.
The field that God gave to me - If you do this, then you will see the field that God has prepared and given to you. God shows you so that you can stand as the ambassador of the field. So that you can save and revive the field and the people in the field. These are the answers that God has prepared and given to you. Through the word of God and Christ, if we start with the word of God, then naturally these answers and blessings will be given to us. Receive answers.
Conclusion
Hold onto Isaiah 60:1 “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” - You have already shone the light. You are already the light. The glory of God already shines upon you. If you just shine this light, then the light will shine and brighten the world. May you receive answers in the name of Jesus Christ.
