Healing the Father of Publius (Acts 28:7-10)

Scripture: “ 7 In that region there was an estate of the leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days. 8 And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. 9 So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. 10 They also honored us in many ways; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary. ”
<Introduction>
Due to the coronavirus, a lot of things are happening. There was a news article that I read and 93-year-old grandfather got hospitalized in France due to the coronavirus. For 24 hours, he was quarantined and received respiratory treatment through ventilators. He got better and was discharged home. The doctor showed the grandfather his medical bill and after he saw his medical bill, he started crying. The doctor thought that the grandfather was crying because the hospital bill was so much. But the grandfather said this, “I did not cry because of the medical bills because I can afford my bill. I am crying because for 24 hours, it costed me around $5,000 to receive respiratory care. For 93 years of my life, I received the oxygen that God has given me on this earth but I never paid God. So, I wonder how much I need to owe God.” The grandfather was crying for this reason. When the doctor heard this, the doctor started crying as well. There is so much grace that we are receiving from God. It is unfathomable. God’s grace is something that we cannot understand and comprehend and people are living in this world unaware of the grace of God. Through todays message, may we hold not God’s grace once again.
1. God's Work
1) Meeting Publius
Verse 7 - When we look at today’s message, it was a content where Paul met the father of Publius. Publius had the most amount of power in that region. What does this mean? This means that he was the chief official for this entire island and a Roman appointed official. And, Paul ends up meeting this man. When the ship that Paul was on landed on this island, everyone on the ship were all shaking in fear and they were in awe that Paul got bit by the viper later on. And, I am sure all of these events were being to reported to Publius. Paul got bit by the viper and wasn’t affected by it, and I am sure Publius heard of this as well. I am sure people were all questioning how Paul was unaffected after being bit by the viper and they all thought that he was god. I am sure it was also reported that Paul received the Word of God that no one will be harmed on this ship and everyone will be protected because of Paul. I am sure when Publius heard of this, he probably realized that Paul was not a typical, ordinary person. God allowed Paul to be bit by a snake so that this meeting could take place. I am sure if Paul didn’t get bit by a viper, none of this would’ve taken place. Paul was bitten by a snake and was suppose to die, but he didn’t die, which allowed this meeting with Publius. If you look at this, Paul was not by bitten by a snake to torture him but God wanted to reveal His plan through Paul. Also, to allow Paul to meet Publius. Through this meeting, Publius invited everyone on the ship and had a festival for three days. This shows that God continues to work and answers to those who hold onto His covenant.
2) God continues His work
Verses 8-10 - If we look at today’s scripture, it didn’t just end with this incident for God. Not only did God work through Publius but Paul was able to find out about a person suffering with a disease. The father of Publius was laying sick due to a fever and it was most likely, Malaria. Malaria is still considered a very dangerous disease even today. I have a cousin in Africa who has been commissioned out as a missionary there and she contracted Malaria. She has been sick with Malaria for 20 years now and she didn’t end up gaining immunity against it but it ended up destroying her immune system. Since they weren’t successful in treating her Malaria, they encouraged her to return back to Korea and recover. Even now this disease is still considered very dangerous so imagine how dangerous it was back then. Paul was able to heal Publius’ father with prayer. It was something that no one could do, through this, Paul received the answer of nobody. Imagine how shocked they were that after Paul prayed and Publius’ father was healed. After this happened, everyone came to Paul and received his prayer to receive healing. Whenever Paul prayed, works arose. The work of everyone being healed took pace. This is very important. Do you think Paul just prayed? He didn’t just pray but he prayed in the name of Jesus Christ. Whenever he prayed, he continued to proclaim the name of Christ. Through this not only were people healed but they were born again inside the gospel. This became a real festival. Imagine how happy they were. Whenever Paul and the people on the ship left, the people of Malta loaded the ship with endless amount of goods. How was this possible? It was because Paul continued to hold onto only Christ and solved the problem on this island through this answer. All he did was proclaim of only Christ and works took place.
2. The Mystery of Answers
1) The answer of the name of Jesus
There is an answer that we must hold onto from here. No matter what problems arises, the answer is Christ alone.
That is why Paul held onto and spoke of Philippians 4:19 (“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”) - Paul didn’t have anything except for Christ alone but all he did was hold onto Christ and he received so many doors of answers being opened to him. That is why we must absolutely hold onto something here. The mystery of answer that Paul held onto, we must hold onto as well. Then, first we need to hold onto who Christ is. If you just proclaim the name of Christ, what kinds of works will arise?
Philippians 2:6-7 (“Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”) - What we must hold onto absolutely is that Christ is completely human but is also God. He was One with God and is God. Jesus is someone who is in the hands of God. He didn’t come in the reputation of God but came down to earth in human flesh. What did He do on this earth as Jesus Christ?
Matthew 11:28 (“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”) - We have many problems and conflicts but Jesus is telling us to come to Him. Jesus promised that He will give us rest and will solve our problems. He fulfilled the role as a True Prophet. What is more important is that Jesus is God. That means that Jesus has power.
Philippians 2:8 (“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”) - He came to earth in human flesh and he came to fulfill the will of God and to die on the cross for us. That is why in order to fulfill God’s Will, He died on the cross.
Hebrews 9:12 (“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.”) - By the blood of the cross, He completely finished our sins and allowed us to obtain eternal redemption. He has completely solved our sins once and for all. All of our sins and curses have been completely solved on the cross. If we come to Jesus, then we can be forgiven and solved of all of our problems.
Philippians 2:9-10 (“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth.”) - Jesus who completed everything on the cross perfectly, God gave Him the name of Jesus who is above all name. Until what point? All creatures and beings on heaven and earth have no choice but to bow down to the name of Jesus. He has been raised up as the True King. He is the King of all kings. He is the True King who broke down all darkness. All of this happens under the name of Jesus.
That is why Jesus said in John 14:14 (“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”) - This victorious Christ is sitting at the right hand of God and that is why, if you ask in His name, it will be done for you. He is working even now in the work of the Holy Sprit. Because this Christ is alive, that is why when Paul used the name of Christ, works took place for him. Not only was Publius healed but all people in that region were healed in the name of Jesus Christ. May you receive these answers.
If that is so, how can we as absolute disciples receive answers?
2) The answer of the absolute disciple
Who is God looking for? He is looking for absolute disciples like Paul. In other words, among all disciples, it was Paul that God sent to testify and proclaim of His name. Does this mean that only Paul is the only one who can perform miracles and works? I don’t think so.
Mark 5:5 (“And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.”) - There was a demon possessed man but when Jesus went to meet this demon possessed man, He had to go through a storm in the sea to meet him. Even though it was a Gentile land, Jesus still went to meet this man. This demon possessed man was healed and he proclaimed that he will follow only Jesus. Jesus told him to remain this Gentile land and to continue to proclaim the gospel. Wherever he went, this man continued to testify of Jesus Christ and who and what He has done for him. We can see that Jesus was able to raise up an absolute disciple.
Right now, we read the scriptures on how Paul faced a storm on the ship and they were able to land on an island of Malta. Paul also experienced a storm but he experienced a storm and landed on the island of Malta not to just play around with his crew mates but it was all part of God’s absolute plan. This is because God had a plan in the island of Malta. God was able to allow Paul to meet Publius and healing to take place. Nothing is a coincidence for God. It is recorded that Publius gets venerated as the first bishop of the island of Malta. After he heard the gospel from Paul, Publius becomes an absolute disciple. Later on, for the name of Jesus, he gets martyred. The catacombs that existed in the early days of the Early Church, scientists and theologians are saying that they are being discovered within this region of Malta. To that point, for the sake of the gospel, Publius stood firmly in faith. How were they able to become absolute disciples? We need to hold onto what it means to be an absolute disciple. What is an absolute disciple? An Absolute disciple means to hold onto only Christ alone.
3. The Enjoyment of the Absolute Enjoyment
1) Only Jesus
Paul held onto only Christ alone. Publius also held onto only Christ alone and because of this, he was martyred. If you seek after only Christ alone, then you can become an absolute disciple. Then, how can we hold onto only Christ?
Always hold onto Isaiah 43:7 (“Everyone who is called by My name, whom I created for My glory, whom I formed and made.”) - The covenant that we must hold onto is we have been created for the sole propose of giving glory to God alone. Then, our entire purpose and direction in life should be directed towards God’s glory alone.
1 Peter 5:6 (“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”) - There may be times where we are not receiving answers and things aren’t working out even though we are saved children of God. Or, in the other ways, you may experience many miracles and answers but I want to tell you to not be swayed by all of that. Stand before God humbly. Paul never said that he did all of those miracles and works on his own. Every evangelist never proclaimed that it was their work or miracle. We must hold onto this. When we stand humbly before God, He said that He will raise us up in due time. When I looked at the whole coronavirus situation, I realized that God is really happy with our worship services and the fact that we are raising up the gospel. I think for the sake of world evangelism, God is working so that world evangelism can take place for all 237 nations. The fact that God is moving Korea up and down through this whole situation, I think God has an absolute plan prepared for Korea. I realized that God is happy when we do world evangelism. This is something that we must hold onto as people of the covenant. We don’t know what kind of miracles will arise in the future but what we must hold onto is, we must stand before God humbly and God will raise us up in due time. There is something that must hold onto.
We must hold onto this during this time of crisis. Matthew 16:25 (“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”) - If you let go of Christ for your own sake and needs, then that is the road to destruction and failure. But during this time of crisis, if we find the gospel, then we can find everything. May you receive answers. Only Christ alone.
There is something that must hold onto. Our remnants must hold onto this. Our church officers and church members must hold onto. If you are really an absolute disciple, you must hold onto 24-hour prayer.
2) 24-hour answer of absolute disciples
Hold onto Galatians 2:20 (“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”) - It is no longer you who live. Your old frames, disbelief, and old self, throw all of that away. Only Christ lives in you. Only focus on how you can give glory to God.
Romans 12:1 (“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”) - Ask God that you can give your entire life to God and worship. Confess that Christ alone is your Lord and master. Live a life where you can give your entire life to God.
Acts 20:24 (“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”) - If God’s will is the 237 nation world evangelization then we must direct our entire direction towards this. We must stake our lives for this alone and our only aim needs to be to testify the good news of Christ alone. Ask God to use you. Ask God to guide and led us. Pray about this.
Romans 14:8 (“For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”) - Our entire lives needs to centered on whether we live or die, we live or die for God. This is because we belong to God. Until the day we die, ask God that we can live this life. We may be lacking and weak but pray that God will grant us the Holy Spirit so that we can live this life. Live a life where we can give glory to God. Restore 24-hour prayer and God will be happy.
<Conclusion>
Jeremiah 33:2-3 (“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: 3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ ”) - God allowed all of this to happen for a reason. God is the one who formed and established it. God has a plan so He allowed all for this to happen and be established according to His plan. This God is speaking to us. God is telling us to call to Him. Call to Him. Then, God promised that He will answer us. He promised that He will show us great and unexpected answers. May you receive these answers.
보불리오 부친의 치유 (행28:7-10)
서론
코로나 때문에 여러가지 일이 많이 생기고 있다. 신문에 난 뉴스를 하나 보았다. 프랑스에 93세 할아버지가 코로나에 걸려서 병원에 왔다. 그는 24시간동안 산소를 공급받았다. 그 덕분에 상황이 많이 좋아져서 아침에 병원에서 퇴워하게 되었다. 의사가 할아버지에게 병원비 계산서를 가져다주었다. 할아버지가 그 계산서를 보더니 눈물을 흘리기 시작했다. 의사는 할아버지를 보면서 금액이 많아서 그런 모양이구나 하면서 괴로워하지 말라고 달랬다. 할아버지가 그 때 이야기를 했다. 저는 지금 지불하게 될 돈을 보고 눈물을 흘리는 것이 아닙니다. 저는 치료비 전부를 낼 수 있습니다. 내가 지금 눈물을 흘리는 것은 고작 24시간 동안 공급받은 산소의 금액이 50만 프랑이 된다는 것을 보고 놀랐습니다. 나는 93년동안 하나님께서 주신 산소를 계속 마시면서 돈을 지불한 적이 한 번도 없었습니다. 그렇다면 내가 하나님한테 그동안 얼마나 많은 빚을 졌겠습니까. 그러면서 울었다. 이 이야기를 들은 의사도 고개를 숙이면서 눈물을 흘리기 시작했다. 우리는 실제로 하나님 앞에 많은 은혜를 받고 있다. 그 받은 은혜는 이루 말할 수 없다. 그런데 사람들은 하나님의 은혜를 너무 모르고 지내고 있다. 오늘은 우리가 하나님의 은혜를 다시 붙잡는 시간이 되어야겠다.
1. 하나님의 역사
1) 보불리오의 만남
오늘 말씀을 보면 사도바울이 보불리오를 만나는 내용을 읽었다.
행 28:7 이 섬에서 가장 높은 사람 보블리오라 하는 이가 –
이것은 무엇을 의미하고 있냐하면 이 섬에 사는 최고 지도자라는 이야기다. 로마 제국이 임명한 최고 지도자가 보불리오였다. 이 사람이 지금 사도바울과 일행을 만나게 된다. 그동안 배에 탔던 사람들이 떨고있고 뱀에게 물린 사건 이 모든 것을 다 부하들이 보불리오에게 보고했을 것이다. 그 독사에게 물렸는데도 털어버리니까 아무렇지 않았다 하는 사건도 이야기했을 것이다. 이 사람이 알고보니까 죄수인 줄 알았더니 신과 같은 존재더라. 어떻게 그런 일이 생겼는지 모르겠다 이야기했을 것이다. 그것을 보면서 부하들이 또 조사를 했을 것이다. 배에서 생겼던 일, 하나님을 만나서 하나님께서 한 명도 다치지 않을 것이라는 이야기를 저 사람이 했는데 그대로 되었습니다 하는 이야기를 다 했을 것이다. 그 이야기를 들은 보불리오는 보통 사람이 아니구나 생각하고 나와서 만났을 것이다. 이것을 보게되면 하나님의 섭리는 놀랍다. 하나님은 바울을 뱀에 물리게 하심을 통해서 만남의 축복을 이어가신다. 뱀에 물리지 않았다면 아마 이런 일이 생길 수 없었을 것이다. 뱀 때문에 분명히 죽어야될 사람이 살았다 하면서 그 관심 때문에 만나게 된 것이다. 이것을 보게되면 사도바울을 괴롭게 하기 위해서 뱀에 물리게 하신 것이 아니라 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위함이였다. 그 덕분에 보불리오를 만나게 되었다. 오늘 말씀보게되니까 이 만남을 통해서 276명이나 되는 사람을 다 초청해서 3일동안 후하게 대접하고 잔치를 베풀었다. 하나님께서 언약 속에 있는 자에게 높이 들어쓰셔서 놀랍게 역사하시는 것을 볼 수 있다.
2) 계속 역사하시는 하나님
오늘 말씀보게되면 이 사건을 끝나지 않는다. 그 대접하는 가운데서 보불리오의 부친에 열병과 이질에 걸려있는 사실을 알게된다. 그 열병이라는 것은 지금 이야기하면 말라리아이다. 말라리아가 지금도 무서운 병이다. 사촌동생이 나이지리아에 20년동안 선교사로 나가있었는데 말라리아를 세 번을 걸렸다. 자꾸만 걸리면 면역이 생기는 것이 아니라 면역이 없어져서 더 살 수 있는 희망이 없어진다고 한다. 선교국에서 이제 그냥 돌아가는게 좋겠다고 해서 돌아온 적이 있다. 지금도 해결하지 못하는 질병인데 당시는 완전히 불치병이다. 이 도저히 고칠 수 없는 불치병을 사도바울이 안수를 통해서 치유했다. 정말로 아무도 할 수 없는 일을, 노바디의 응답을 사도바울이 누리는 것을 볼 수 있다. 기도하고 낫는 것을 보고 얼마나 놀랐겠는가. 그 이야기를 듣고 섬에 고통받는 많은 사람들이 와서 기도를 받았다. 기도할 때 마다 응답을 받았다. 다 치유받는 역사가 일어났다. 여기서 중요하다. 사도바울이 그냥 기도했겠는가. 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도했을 것이다. 그 기도를 하면서 예수 그리스도를 증거했을 것이다. 그래서 모든 사람들이 복음을 듣고 몸을 치유받을 뿐 아니라 새롭게 태어나는 역사가 일어났다. 이 섬이 완전 잔치 분위기가 되는 것이다. 얼마나 기뻐했는지 10절 말씀에 보면 떠날 때 모든 물건을 배에다 채워줬다고 나온다. 어떻게 해서 이런 일이 생겼는가. 사도바울이 오직 예수만 갖고 문제를 해결했다. 오직 예수님만 증거했는데 이 모든 것이 다 해결되었다. 여기서 우리가 확실한 답을 붙잡아야겠다. 어떤 문제가 있다고 하더라도 답은 그리스도이다. 그래서 사도바울은 빌 4:19 옥중서신에서 기록한 내용이 나온다.
빌 4:19 나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라
사도바울은 아무것도 없는데 그리스도 하나만으로 주님께서 역사하셔서 모든 사람들이 다 살게될 뿐 아니라 섬이 잔치를 벌였을 뿐 아니라 로마까지 편안히 갈 수 있도록 모든 문이 열렸다. 그래서 다시 한 번 확실히 잡아야겠다. 사도바울이 잡았던 응답의 비밀을 확실히 나도 잡아서 이런 응답을 받아야겠다.
2. 응답의 비밀
1) 예수님 이름의 응답
먼저 우리가 예수님이 누구신가 하는 것을 다시 붙잡아야겠다. 예수님이 누구신데 예수님 이름으로 선포했는데 그런 일이 일어나는가.
빌 2:6-7 그는 근본 하나님의 본체시나 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것으로 여기지 아니하시고 7 오히려 자기를 비워 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨고
먼저 확실히 잡아야할 것은 예수님은 근본 하나님의 본체시다. 하나님과 같은 한 본체시다. 요 1:18 말씀에 보게되면 하나님 품 속에 있던 분이라고 나온다. 그래서 그 분이 오실 때 하나님과 동등됨을 취하지 아니하시고 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨다. 육신을 입고 이 땅에 오셨다. 오셔서 무엇을 하셨는가.
마11:28 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라
너 고통 많지? 너 힘들지? 나에게 와라 하시는 것이다. 내가 너희를 쉬게 해주시겠다는 것이다. 내가 문제 해결 해주시겠다는 것이다. 바로 선지자 역할을 감당하시는 예수님으로 오신 것이다. 가장 중요한 것은 그는 하나님이셨다는 사실이다. 그렇기 때문에 주님은 능력이 있으시다. 두번째는 무엇인가.
빌 2:8 사람의 모양으로 나타나사 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라
하나님께서 육신의 몸을 입고 이 땅에 오셔서 그냥 가만히 계신 것이 아니라 하나님의 뜻을 따라서 죽기까지 복종하셨다는 것이다. 그래서 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위해서 십자가에 못박혀 죽으셨다는 사실이다.
히 9:12 염소와 송아지의 피로 하지 아니하고 오직 자기의 피로 영원한 속죄를 이루사 단번에 성소에 들어가셨느니라
십자가에서 못박혀 돌아가심으로 말미암아 우리의 영원한 속죄를 이루셨다. 우리의 죄를 영원히 해결하셨다. 우리 모든 죄와 저주가 완전히 끝났다. 그 분을 찾게되면 문제가 해결된다. 세번째이다.
빌2:9-10 이러므로 하나님이 그를 지극히 높여 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 주사 10 하늘에 있는 자들과 땅에 있는 자들과 땅 아래에 있는 자들로 모든 무릎을 예수의 이름에 꿇게 하시고
이 모든 것을 십자가에서 완성시킨 주님을 보시고 하나님은 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 주셨다. 어느 정도인가. 하늘에 있는 자들이나 땅에 있는 자들이나 땅 아래 있는 어떠한 존재라도 예수 이름에 무릎을 꿇게 하셨다. 만왕의 왕으로서 세우셨다는 말이다. 모든 영적존재의 왕이다. 모든 흑암의 권세를 깨뜨리신 왕이다. 그것이 예수 이름에 무릎 끓는다. 그래서 예수님께서 말씀하셨다.
요14:14 내 이름으로 무엇이든지 내게 구하면 내가 행하리라
그 승리하신 주님께서 하나님 보좌 우편에 계신 주님께서 지금도 예수님 이름으로 부르게되면 뭐든 행하신다는 것이다. 지금도 살아계셔서 성령으로 역사하신다. 그 살아계신 주님이 계시기 때문에 사도바울이 예수님 이름을 선포하는 순간에 해결될 수 밖에 없었다. 보불리오의 아버지가 치유되었을 뿐 아니라 온 성의 질병걸린 사람들이 치유되었다. 이 축복받는 여러분 되시기 바란다. 그러면 하나님이 절대적으로 쓰시는 제자는 어떻게해서 응답을 받는가.

하나님은 누구를 찾고계시는가. 사도바울과 같은 절대제자를 찾고계신다. 수많은 제자 가운데서 사도바울이 그곳에 가서 증거를 일으켰다. 그러면 사도바울만 역사를 일으킬 수 있는가. 그것은 아니다. 잘 아시는 것과 마찬가지로 마 5:5에 거라사 지역에 군대귀신 들린 사람이 나타난다. 그런데 주님께서는 거기를 가실 때 거센 파도를 뚫고 가셨다. 그 사람을 만나기 위해서 가신 것이다. 예수님께서 이방 땅임에도 불구하고 그를 만나서 치유해주시는 역사가 나타난다. 치유받은 이 사람이 내가 주님을 따르겠다고 했다. 그런데 주님께서는 거기 남아서 복음을 전하라고 하셨다. 그 사람이 곳곳에 다니면서 살아계신 주님의 놀라운 능력을 증거하고 다니게 되었다. 하나님께서는 복음을 증거하는 절대 제자를 세우신 것이다. 우리가 지금 본문을 보고있다. 유라굴로 폭풍을 뚫고 멜리데섬으로 찾아오셨다. 물론 사도바울과 그 일행이 왔다. 그런데 사실은 그 폭풍 가운데 멜리데섬에 오게될 것은 사도바울이나 사공들이 노를 저어서 된 것이 아니라 하나님께서 그곳까지 인도하신 것이다. 왜냐하면 하나님께서 멜리데섬에 대한 계획이 있으셨기 때문이다. 그래서 보불리오를 만나게되고 그 부친을 치유하게 되고 모든 섬 사람들을 치유하게된다. 하나님께서 행하시는 모든 것은 그냥이 없다. 기록에 의하면 이 보불리오가 나중에 멜리데 섬의 최초의 감독이 되었다는 내용이 있다. 사도바울에게 복음을 듣고 충성스러운 절대 제자가 되었다는 것이다. 역사가에 의하면 보불리오는 주님의 이름을 위하여 순교를 당했다고 한다. 뿐만 아니라 멜리데 섬에는 초대교회 시대에 있었던 지하묘지, 카타콤이 발견되었다고 한다. 그정도로 사도바울이 증거한 복음을 통해서 믿음 안에 확실히 선 것을 볼 수 있다. 어째서 이렇게 절대제자가 되었는가.
3. 절대제자의 누림
1) 오직 예수
우리가 절대 제자를 다시 붙잡아야겠다. 절대제자가 무엇인가. 오직 예수만 붙잡는 사람이다. 사도바울은 오직 예수만 잡았다. 이 보불리오도 오직 예수만 부르짖다가 순교까지 당한 줄로 믿는다. 여러분도 오직 예수만 잡게되면 하나님께서 절대제자로 여러분을 붙들어주실 줄로 믿는다. 오직 예수를 어떻게 붙잡는가. 사 43:7을 항상 붙잡아야한다.
사43:7 내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자 곧 내가 내 영광을 위하여 창조한 자를 오게 하라 그를 내가 지었고 그를 내가 만들었느니라
무엇보다도 내가 붙잡아야할 언약이 나를 만드시고 이 땅에 오시게하신 목적이 아버지 하나님의 영광을 위함이라는 것이다. 내 모든 삶의 방향이 하나님 영광에 맞추어야한다는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 벧전 5:6을 갖고 기도하시라.
벧전5:6 그러므로 하나님의 능하신 손 아래에서 겸손하라 때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라
우리가 예수님을 믿다가 응답을 얼른 받지 못하는 경우도 있다. 예수님 열심히 믿는데도 뭔가 일이 잘 안 풀릴 수도 있다. 반대로 놀라운 기적의 역사도 일으켰을 수도 있다. 거기에 절대 흔들리지 말라는 것이다. 하나님의 능하신 손 아래에서 겸손하라는 것이다. 사도바울은 절대로 자기가 했다고 얘기한 적이 없다. 우리 전도자도 자기가 절대로 한 적이 없다고 이야기하고 다신다. 우리가 이것을 꼭 잡아야한다. 그러면 때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라. 저는 지금 코로나 사태를 보면서 하나님께서 복음을 세우는 것을 기뻐하시는구나 하는 것을 기도하면서 깨달았다. 세계복음화를 위해서 여러가지 어려움 당하는데도 237을 위해서 모든 방향을 맞추고 나가고 있다. 하나님께서 한국을 들어세우는 것을 보면 하나님께서 작정하시고 축복하시려는 계획이 있는 것 같다. 세계복음화 하시는 것을 이렇게 기뻐하시는구나 하는 것을 깨닫게된다. 더군다나 언약가진 우리가 꼭 잡아야할 것이 이것이다. 앞으로 우리에게 어떤 기적이 일어날지 모른다. 우리가 잡아야할 것은 하나님의 능하신 손 아래서 겸손하라 때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라 이다. 우리가 또 하나 꼭 잡아야할 것이 있다. 위기 가운데서 잡아야할 말씀이다.
마 16:25 누구든지 제 목숨을 구원하고자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라
내가 살기 위해서 복음을 버리고 그리스도도 버리고 예배도 버리면 이것은 망하는 길이라는 것이다. 이런 상황 가운데서 오직 복음을 찾게되면 모든 것을 찾게될 것이라는 말이다. 이것이 오직 예수이다.
2) 절대제자의 24시
여기서 우리가 다시 한 번 붙잡아야겠다. 우리 렘넌트들이 꼭 붙잡아야겠다. 뿐만 아니라 우리 중직자들 모든 성도들이 붙잡아야겠다. 절대제자가 내가 맞다하면 우리가 절대제자의 24시 기도를 꼭 붙잡아야겠다.
갈 2:20 내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니 그런즉 이제는 내가 사는 것이 아니요 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사시는 것이라 이제 내가 육체가운데 사는 것은 나를 사랑하사 나를 위하여 자기 자신을 버리신 하나님의 아들을 믿는 믿음 안에서 사는 것이라
이제 내가 사는 것은 내가 사는 것이 아니다. 내 세상적인 정욕, 욕심, 옛 틀 다 버리라는 것이다. 오직 그리스도께서만 내 안에서 사시는 것이다. 주님께 영광돌리는 삶에 방향을 맞추라는 것이다.
롬 12:1 그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제사로 드리라 이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라
하나님 아버지 내 몸을 하나님께 드립니다. 내 온 몸과 마음과 영혼을 주님께 드립니다. 나의 주인이 바로 주님이십니다. 내 모든 것을 주님께 영광으로 돌리기 원합니다. 드리는 삶을 살기 바란다.
행 20:24 내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명조차 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라
하나님께서 정말로 세계복음화, 237나라를 살리는 것이 하나님의 소원이라면 거기에 모든 방향을 맞추겠습니다. 이 은혜로운 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 내 생명조차 조금도 아끼지 아니하고 전하겠습니다. 하나님 저를 사용해주세요. 우리 교회를 사용해주세요. 우리 렘넌트를 사용해주세요. 기도하시기 바란다. 롬 14:8이 고백되시기 바란다.
롬 14:8 우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로다
우리 삶의 모든 방향이 주를 위해서 살고 주를 위해서 죽는 것이다. 왜냐하면 우리는 주님 것이기 때문이다. 하나님 죽는 날 까지 이 삶을 살 수 있도록 인도해 주옵소서. 우리가 비록 연약하고 부족할 때도 주님께서 함께하시고 성령께서 역사하셔서 이 말씀이 이루어지게 하옵소서. 주님의 뜻을 이루어가는 영광돌리는 삶을 살게 하옵소서. 24시 기도하시기 바란다. 하나님께서 기뻐하실 줄로 믿는다.
결론
렘 33:2-3 일을 행하시는 여호와, 그것을 만들며 성취하시는 여호와, 그의 이름을 여호와라 하는 이가 이와 같이 이르시도다. 너는 내게 부르짖으라 내가 네게 응답하겠고 네가 알지 못하는 크고 은밀한 일을 네게 보이리라
이 일을 이루신 것은 하나님이신줄 믿는다. 만들며 성취하는 분도 하나님이시다. 이 위기도 하나님께서 뜻이 있기 때문에 이루셨고 또 성취하실 것이 있는 줄 믿는다. 그 하나님이 지금 우리에게 말씀하신다. 너는 내게 부르짖으라는 것이다. 부르짖으시기 바란다. 그러면 내가 네게 응답하겠다고 하신다. 네가 알지 못하는 크고 은밀한 일을 보여주실 것이라고 말씀하신다. 여러분 응답받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
