단번에 성취하신 그리스도(히10:8-10)
서론
제가 얼마전에 서현이 엄마한테서 들은 이야기이다. 친척 중에 불진자 였다가 신천지에 들어간 사람이 계시다. 남편과 이혼하고 남매를 데리고 살았다. 남매는 성장을 해서 사회 생활을 하고 있다. 그런데 일 년 전에 큰 일을 겪게 되었다. 첫째 아들이 교통사고로 죽음을 당했다. 갑자기 죽음을 당해서 큰 충격을 받았다. 둘째 딸은 호주에서 간호사 공부를 하고있는데 얼마전에 간호사 자격증을 받았다고 엄마한테 기쁜 마음으로 전화를 했다. 한국에 있는 엄마에게 이제 내가 벌어서 살테니 걱정하지 말라고 전화했다. 그런데 전화를 건지 얼마 안되서 딸에게도 교통사고가 났다. 기차에 부딪혀서 죽었다고 한다. 일 년만에 그 분은 두 남매를 다 잃었다. 그동안에 건강하게 똑똑하게 키웠는데 일 년 안에 그런 일이 생긴 것이다. 왜 이런 일이 생기는가. 우리가 영적인 눈을 정확히 뜨지 않으면 안된다.
요 10:10 도적이 오는 것은 도적질하고 죽이고 멸망시키려는 것뿐이요 내가 온것은 양으로 생명을 얻게 하고 더 풍성히 얻게 하려는 것이라
사는 것이 사는 것이 아니다. 언제 어떤 변을 어떻게 당할지 모르고 살아가는 것이 사람 인생이다. 이처럼 방치된 사람들이 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 그러면 이것을 어떻게 해결해야하는가. 그리스도가 오신 것은 생명을 주고 풍성히 주시기 위해서 오셨다고 이야기하고 있다. 바로 그리스도가 답이라는 것이다. 생명의 근원되신 분이 그리스도이기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 모든 문제의 해답은 그리스도 밖에 없다는 것은 다시 잡아야한다. 우리 주위에도 말은 못하지만 고통받는 사람들이 얼마나 많은지 모른다. 그들에게 정확한 답을 알려주어야한다. 오늘도 귀중한 말씀을 주고 계신다. 우리는 그리스도를 정확하게 아는 것이 얼마나 중요한지 모른다. 왜냐면 우리는 안다고 하지만 정말로 잘 모르고있다. 그래서 오늘 말씀을 통해서 그리스도를 다시 발견하고 알고 누리는 귀한 시간이 되시기를 축원한다.
1. 희생제사
1) 율법에 의한 제사
히 10:8 위에 말씀하시기를 주께서는 제사와 예물과 번제와 속죄제는 원하지도 아니하고 기뻐하지도 아니하신다 하셨고
모세가 이야기했던 짐승의 피제사는 하나님께서 원하지도 아니하시고 기뻐하시도 아니하셨던 제사라고 말한다. 왜 그런가. 10장 1절 말씀은 그것들은 그림자라고 하고있다. 4절 말씀에는 그 피로서는 능히 죄를 없이하지 못한다고 이야기하고 있다. 구약시대 모든 제사는 죄를 연기로 가리웠을 뿐이지 죄를 없이 하지는 못했다. 그림자에 지나지 않았다. 그러면 여기서 질문해볼 수가 있다. 구약성경을 보면 어린 양의 피로 인해서 애굽에서 엄청난 기적을 일으키지 않았습니까. 출애굽을 하고 홍해가 갈라지는 엄청난 기적이 어린 양의 피를 통해서 나타나지 않았습니까. 기뻐하지도 않으시면서 어떻게 이런 큰 기적이 일어납니까. 여기서 확실히 잘 잡아야한다. 그림자는 실체가 있다는 것을 나타낸다. 구약에 나타났던 모든 기적은 그리스도께서 오셔서 나타낼 기적을 그림자로 표현해준 것이다.
갈 3:24 이같이 율법이 우리를 그리스도께로 인도하는 초등교사가 되어 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 말미암아 의롭다 함을 얻게 하려 함이라
율법은 그리스도를 만나게하는 안내자의 역할 밖에 안된다는 것이다. 이것을 확실히 붙잡아야한다. 그림자만 잡았는데도 엄청난 기적이 일어났다. 그렇다면 실체되신 그리스도를 붙잡게되면 어떤 일이 일어나겠는가. 이것을 정확하게 잡고있어야한다.
2) 뜻을 행하시는 제사
히 10:9 그 후에 말씀하시기를 보시옵소서 내가 하나님의 뜻을 행하러 왔나이다 하셨으니 그 첫째 것을 폐하심은 둘째 것을 세우려 하심이라
내가 하나님의 뜻을 행하러 왔나이다 하고 주님께서 말씀하셨다. 뜻이 무엇인가. 하나님께서 원하시는 것, 기뻐하시는 것이다. 그것을 행하러 오셨다. 어떻게 행하시는가. 하나님의 뜻을 통해서 예수 그리스도를 예비하셨는데 주님께서 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 제물로, 뜻을 성취하는 제물로 오신 것이다. 주님께서 오신 것이 그냥 놀러오신 것이 아니다. 주님께서 오셔서 누가 죄를 짓나 하고 찾으러다니러 오신 것이 아니다. 아버지께서 기뻐하시는 제물이 되시기 위해서 오셨다. 그러면 예수님께서 어떤 죽음을 당하실 것인가를 알려면 그림자가 되는 율법을 보면 알 수가 있다. 주님께서는 번제 제물로 돌아가셨다. 구약시대에 번제 제물을 드릴 때는 짐승의 껍데기를 먼저 벗긴다. 그리고 피를 다 쏟아버린다. 피를 들고 들어간다. 그리고 각을 뜬다. 뼈 마디마디 마다 잘라버리는 것이다. 그리고 전부다 제단에서 태워 없애버린다. 그것이 그림자라고 하는 율법에 기록된 예수님의 죽음을 예언한 말씀이다. 예수님께서 그렇게 돌아가셨다. 예수님께서 이 땅에 제물로 오셔서 붙잡히셔서 채찍에 맞으셨다. 예수님의 살가죽이 찢겨졌다. 갈기갈기 찢어졌다. 십자가에 올라가셔서 수치를 당하는데 다 벗겨진 알몸으로 올라가셨다. 구약시대에 마치 짐승의 껍데기를 다 벗기듯이 그런 수모를 피조물한테 당하셨다. 피를 다 쏟으셨다. 뿐만 아니라 돌아가시고 난 다음에 창으로 찔려 살점이 뜯겨나갔다. 완전히 죽으신 것이다. 예수님의 십자가의 고난과 죽으심은 이미 번제물을 통해서, 희생제물을 통해서 예언되었다. 그러면 여기서 근본적으로 왜 우리 주님께서 그렇게 돌아가셔야하는가.
2. 희생제사의 이유
1) 근본적인 이유
왜 예수님께서 십자가 고통을 미리 다 알고 계셨음에도 자청하셔서 이 땅에 오셨는가. 다른 이유가 없다. 우리 때문에 오신 것이다. 저와 여러분을 위해서 오신 것이다. 또 하나님은 왜 아들되신 예수님을 십자가에서 고통을 당하도록 허락을 하셨는가. 꼭 그렇게 고통을 당해야만 하는가. 분명한 것은 그렇게 고통을 당하셔야만이 구원을 받을 수 있기 때문에 그렇게 고통을 당하신 것이다. 그 많은 하나님의 뜻은 우리가 제대로 알 수 없습니다만 성경에 나타나는 것을 보게되면 이런 고통 때문에 오셨구나 하는 것을 알 수 있다.
마 25:41 또 왼편에 있는 자들에게 이르시되 저주를 받은 자들아 나를 떠나 마귀와 그 사자들을 위하여 예비된 영영한 불에 들어가라
마귀를 위하여 예비해놓은 지옥, 그 속에 들어가라 하면서 예수님께서 저주하신다. 너희들 구원받지 못하면 이 마귀와 똑같이 들어간다는 것이다. 이런 얘기하면 지식인들은 그런 식으로 협박을 해서 예수 믿게하는 것은 참 나쁜 방법이라고 이야기한다. 여호와 증인, 안식교에서는 지옥이 없다고 한다. 하나님은 사랑의 하나님이신데 고통받는 지옥을 만드실 잔인한 하나님이 아니라는 것이다. 그래서 여호와증인하고 이야기를 하는데 그걸 강력하게 이야기했다. 그래서 제가 이야기했다. 나도 정말로 지옥이 없었으면 좋겠습니다. 그런데 분명히 성경에는 지옥이 있다고 하고 있고 내가 볼 때 여호와증인을 믿는 당신은 틀림없이 그 곳에 가게될 것이라고 했다. 기분이 나쁘다고 했다. 그래서 지옥이 없으면 기분 나빠할 이유가 없다고 했다. 그리고 제가 다음 구절을 이야기했다.
막 9:47-49 만일 네 눈이 너를 범죄하게 하거든 빼버리라 한 눈으로 하나님의 나라에 들어가는 것이 두 눈을 가지고 지옥에 던져지는 것보다 나으니라 48 거기에서는 구더기도 죽지 않고 불도 꺼지지 아니하느니라 49 사람마다 불로써 소금 치듯 함을 받으리라
만일에 지옥이 없다면 성경에서 예수님께서 이런 말씀을 하실 이유가 없다. 더군다나 중요한 것은 만일에 이 성경 말씀이 거짓말이라고 하게되면 예수님께서 오셔서 십자가에서 고통받으실 이유가 없다. 지옥도 없고 고통도 없다면 왜 예수님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 비참하게 고통받으시면서 돌아가셔야했는가. 미안하지만 틀림없이 이런 사건이 일어난다고 이야기했다. 많은 사람들이 이것이 있는지도 모르고 마음대로 살아가고 있는데 실제로 그렇지 않다고 했다. 계시록에도 마지막날에 실질적으로 이런 일이 있을 것이라고 이야기한다.
계 20:10 또 그들을 미혹하는 마귀가 불과 유황 못에 던져지니 거기는 그 짐승과 거짓 선지자도 있어 세세토록 밤낮 괴로움을 받으리라
무서운 이야기이다. 불신자들이 가장 무서워하는 존재가 귀신이다. 귀신, 사단을 얼마나 무서워하고 쩔쩔매면서 시키는데로 하고 돌아다닌다. 그런데 마귀가 그 속에 들어간다고 이야기한다. 그 무서워하는 마귀와 함께 지옥에 가셔 영원히 함께한다는 것이다. 얼마나 상상할 수 없는 일이 생겨질 것을 이야기하는가. 저는 기도하면서 가끔 이것을 생각한다. 나도 예수님을 믿지 않았다면 틀림없이 지옥에 갔다. 틀림없이 그 누구도 돌봐주지 못하는 말할 수 없는 고통과 어려움 속에 있을 뻔 했다. 정말 하나님의 은혜로 구원받아서 하나님의 자녀가 되었다. 감사 중에 이런 감사는 없다. 믿지 않는 자는 틀림없이 간다고 되어있다.
2) 둘째 것을 세우심
첫째 것을 폐하심은 둘째 것을 세우려하심이라고 말씀하고 있다. 우리를 정말로 구원시키기 위해서 율법의 모든 제사를 완전히 없애버리시고 그리스도를 실질적으로 이 땅에 오시게 하셔서 완전 구원을 성취하셨다. 구약시대 놀라운 기적들이 많이 일어났다. 그런데 그 기적은 예수님이 하신 기적에 그림자에 밖에 지나지 않는다. 이스라엘 백성들이 애굽에서 노예살이 하다가 해방되었다. 그보다 더 큰 기적이 무엇인줄 아시는가. 내가 영원한 지옥에서 고통받을 수 밖에 없는데서 해방된 것이다. 애굽에서 노예살이하다가 해방된 것은 상대가 안되는 것이다. 지옥에서 해방된 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 홍해가 갈라졌다. 홍해가 갈라진 것 보다도 더 큰 기적이 무엇인지 아시는가. 운명에 빠져살다가 영원한 지옥 감옥 속에서 살아가서 고통받을 수 밖에 없는 저희들이 거기서 완전히 빠져나왔다는 것이다. 홍해가 갈라지는 것 보다도 운명에서 빠져나오는 것이 더 큰 기적이다. 또 바로가 군대를 데리고 와서 이스라엘 백성들을 죽이려고 했다. 쫓아온 바로 군대를 하나님께서는 홍해 바다에 다 수장시켜버렸다. 그것보다 더 큰 기적이 무엇인가. 예수님께서 십자가에서 사단의 머리를 박살내신 것이다. 이 기적보다도 큰 것이 없다. 구약에 나타난 어떤 기적도 주님이 하신 기적에 비하면 아무것도 아니다.
고후 5:17 그런즉 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라 이전 것은 지나 갔으니 보라 새 것이 되었도다
최고의 기적이 무엇인가. 우리가 새 것이 된 것이다. 완전히 달라진 것이다. 재창조, 새로워진 것이다. 어떻게 해서 그렇게 되었는가. 성령이 오심으로 말미암아 완전히 바뀌었다. 새로운 피조물로서 과거는 완전히 치유받았다. 여러분들은 새로운 피조물 인줄로 믿는다.
3. 희생제사의 열매
1) 단 한 번의 드리심
히 10:10 이 뜻을 따라 예수 그리스도의 몸을 단번에 드리심으로 말미암아 우리가 거룩함을 얻었노라
기가막힌 말씀이다. 예수 그리스도의 십자가 사건을 통해서 단번에 끝냈다는 것이다. 이것을 보게되면 예수님의 십자가 사건은 천지창조를 하신 것 보다도 어마어마한 사건이다. 지구 역사상 최고의 클라이막스가 십자가 사건이다. 완전히 바꾸어버리셨다. 이것은 하나님만 할 수 있는 것이다. 영원히 멸망 받을 수 밖에 없는 우리를 완전히 바꾸셔서 하나님 자녀를 만드셨다. 그런데 오늘 말씀을 보니까 단번에 드리셨다고 나온다. 단번이 아주 중요한 말씀이다. 7장부터 10장까지 단 번에 드리셨다는 말이 네 번이나 나온다. 한 번 죽으심으로 완전히 끝내신 것이다. 놀라운 말씀이다.
히 9:27 한번 죽는 것은 사람에게 정하신 것이요 그 후에는 심판이 있으리니
모든 사람에게 정해진 법이 한 번 죽는 것이다. 그런데 예수님께서도 한 번 죽으셨다. 예수님도 완전한 인간이셨다는 것이다. 예수님도 하나님께서 정하신 법을 따랐다는 것이다. 그런데 예수님께서 단번에 이루셨다. 하나님의 법을 따르긴 따르는데 예수님의 죽음이 본인의 죽음이 아니라 우리 죄를 다 짊어지신 죽음이다. 피를 단번에 드리셨다. 하나님 아버지께서는 예수님의 그 피를 받으셨다. 네가 흘린 피를 내가 받노라 하신 증거가 예수님을 다시 살리신 것이다. 네 피를 받았다 하는 승낙이 예수님을 살리신 것이다. 예수님의 짊어지신 우리의 죄 값이 완전히 끝났다는 것이다. 예수님께서 지불하셔서 다 끝났다. 살아계신 증거로 이 땅에 오셨을 뿐 아니라 올라가셔서 보좌우편에 계신다.
롬 8:34 누가 정죄하리요 죽으실 뿐 아니라 다시 살아나신 이는 그리스도 예수시니 그는 하나님 우편에 계신 자요 우리를 위하여 간구하시는 자시니라
그 예수님께서 부활하셔서 우리를 위해서 간구하고 계신다. 얼마나 감사한가. 그것도 영원히 간구하고 계신다. 이 축복 누리는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
2) 받은 은혜의 누림
여기서 꼭 붙잡아야겠다. 단번에 드리심으로 말미암아 우리가 거룩함을 받았도다 하는 말씀이다. 거룩함을 받았다 하는 것은 이미 거룩해졌다는 것이다. 우리가 깨끗함을 받았다는 것이다. 언제인가. 받아들이는 순간에.
롬 10:13 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라
예수님을 믿음으로 부르는 모든 사람은 그 순간에 구원을 받는다는 것이다. 우리 복음의 중심은 무엇인가. 하나님의 은혜이다. 하나님의 은혜가 무엇인가. 자기 몸을 드려서 죽으신 분은 예수님이신데 거룩함은 우리가 받았다. 이것을 보고 은혜라고 한다. 예수님께서 죽으셨는데 내가 깨끗함을 받았다. 이게 은혜다. 뿐만 아니라 우리는 거룩함을 받을만한 존재가 되지 못한다. 거룩하신 예수님 때문에 우리가 거룩하게 된 것이다. 어떻게해서 그렇게 되었는가. 주님께서 오셔서 십자가에서 완전히 해결하셨기 때문이다. 우리가 한 것은 아무것도 없다. 처음부터 끝까지 주님께서 다 하셨다. 나의 어떤 보답도 우리가 살아가면서 어떤 희생과 헌신이 있다고 하더라도 우리가 받은 생명과는 비교할 수가 없다. 우리가 어떻게 해야겠는가. 구원받은 우리는 하나님께 어떻게 영광돌리고 보답해야할까 고민해야할 것이다. 성경에서는 우리에게 말씀을 주고 계신다. 너희들이 할 일이 있다 하고 말씀하신다. 네가 정말로 내가 준 은혜를 잊지 못한다면 이 일을 해라 하셨다. 그것이 바로 사도바울이 하신 말씀이다. 사도바울을 흑암에서 건져내시고 주신 말씀이 저와 여러분에게 주신 말씀인 줄로 믿는다.
행 26:17-18 이스라엘과 이방인들에게서 내가 너를 구원하여 그들에게 보내어 18 그 눈을 뜨게 하여 어두움에서 빛으로, 사단의 권세에서 하나님께로 돌아가게 하고 죄 사함과 나를 믿어 거룩케 된 무리 가운데서 기업을 얻게 하리라 하더이다
여기서 어둠에서 빛으로 하는 것은 예수님의 선지자 사역이다. 사단의 권세에서 하나님께로 하는 것은 예수님의 왕적 권세를 말한다. 죄사함이라는 것은 예수님의 제사장적 권세를 말한다. 내가 했던 이것을 너희들이 복음을 전함으로서 행하라는 것이다. 여기서 중요한 것이 있다. 우리가 복음만 전하면 성령께서 그 일을 이루시곘다는 것이다. 기업을 얻게 하리라 하는 것은 주님께서 하시겠다는 것이다. 우리가 하는 것은 복음을 전하는 것 밖에 없다. 이것이 구원받은 우리에게 하나님께서 부탁하시는 말씀이신 줄로 믿는다. 사도바울은 이 말씀을 정말 끝까지 붙잡아서 큰 축복 가운데 살았다. 이 축복받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
결론
행 20:24 내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명을 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라
영원히 멸망 받아서 지옥 속에서 고통받아야할 저희들을 은혜 가운데 구원해주시고 하나님 자녀로서 살 수 있도록 축복해주신 것을 생각한다면 주님께서 주신 말씀을 붙잡아야할 줄로 믿는다. 축복받는 여러분 되시기 바란다.
Christ's Fulfillment Once and for All (Hebrews 10:8-10)

“8 Previously saying, 'Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them' (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said, 'Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.' He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
Introduction
Not too long ago, there was something that I heard from my daughter-in-law. One of her family members entered into the Korean religious cult group, Shincheonji. Her family member got divorced and she was taking care of her two of her children. Her children were living outside of her house and living on their own but some unfortunate events happened to her family. Her older child died from a car accident and when this happened, this caused a huge shock to her family. Her younger child was studying nursing in Australia and finished her studies, and obtained her certification as a nurse. She relayed this happy news to her mother and told her mother not to worry but shortly after that phone call, she also died in a car accident. Her car was hit by a train and she passed away immediately from this car accident. Within one year, this mother lost both of her two children. Her children were growing up so well but within just one year, both of her children passed away. Why are these kinds of things happening? When we don’t have our spiritual eyes, then these may be seen as unfortunate events. John 10:10 (“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”) - You think you are living your life but you are not truly living your own life. You live a life where you don’t know what will happen to you. There are so many people who are living a life lost and wondering and unaware of what is happening to their lives. Then, what must we do? It says in John 10:10 that Jesus Christ came to give us life and give us an abundant life. This means that Jesus Christ is the true answer. This is because Jesus Christ is the source of life. Then, the answer and solution to all things is Christ alone and we need to hold onto this. The people around us, they may be suffering even though we may not see it or be aware of it. We need to relay the sure and accurate answer to them. God has given us a precious message again. It is so important for us to accurately know the gospel, this is because we say that we know Jesus Chirst but we don’t really know who Christ is. That is why through this message, we need to rediscover Christ once again.
1. Sacrifice Worship
1) Worship according to the law
Verse 8 - The sacrifice worship that Moses spoke about, the blood sacrifice was not something that God desired nor made God pleased. Why was that? We saw last week on how the blood sacrifices were just a shadow. The blood in the animal sacrifices were not able to completely cleanse the sins of mankind. The sacrifices in the Old Testament were used to just cover the sins but it didn’t completely cleanse the sins of mankind. That is why the blood sacrifices in the Old Testament were all a shadow. That is why we must ask ourselves, what does this mean? In the Old Testament, through the blood of the young lamb, it was able to perform great miracles of the Exodus and in Egypt. This allowed the Exodus, the Red Sea to split, and great miracles to arise through the blood of the young lamb. If God was not pleased with these blood sacrifices, why did God perform these great miracles? We must understand that shadows just show that there is merely a physical object or something behind it. The miracles in the Old Testament were all a shadow of what to come in the New Testament through Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:24 (“Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”) - The law was made to become a mediator between God and man, to allow people to become closer to God. We must hold onto this. We must know that even though the people held onto the shadow of the covenant and the law in the Old Testament, great miracles still arose. If that is so, if we hold onto Jesus Christ and not just the mere shadow anymore, what would happen? We need to hold onto this absolutely.
2) Sacrifice to fulfill God's will
Verse 9 - When we look at here, Jesus said that He came to do God’s will. What was God’s will that was referred to here? The word, “will'' means that Jesus will do what makes God happy and pleased. This is what Jesus came to do. How will He fulfill God’s will? For the sake of His will, God prepared Jesus Christ as the ultimate blood sacrifice. When Jesus Christ came, He didn’t come to play and have fun on Earth nor to chase after those who committed sins but He came to Earth to fulfill God’s will and to become the ultimate sacrifice. What kind of death did Jesus Christ experience and choose? We can see through the blood sacrifices that were performed in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, the burnt blood sacrifices were performed and when burnt blood sacrifices were performed, the priests would peel the skin of the animal, take all of the blood of the animal out as well as all of the organs and bones and cut them into pieces. Then, they will take everything and burn it. All of this were shadows and foreshadow of how Jesus Christ would die on the cross. This was how Jesus Christ died. When Jesus Christ came to sacrifice Himself on earth, He was whipped and all of His flesh on his skin was peeled and stripped off. When He was nailed onto the cross, all of His clothes were stripped off of Him and just like in the Old Testament how the sacrificed animals’ skins were peeled off, this was what happened to Jesus. All of the blood of Jesus was shed when He died on the cross. When He died on the cross, He shed all of His blood and in order to confirm that Jesus was dead, they pierced His body with a spear. We can see all of the foreshadows and prophecies in the Old Testament were all fulfilled when Jesus Christ died on the cross. But, why did Jesus Christ have to die this way?
2. The Reason for Sacrifice Worship
1) The fundamental reason
Why did Jesus Christ die on the cross even though He knew what would happen to Him on the cross? He came to Earth for us, for you and me. God allowed His one and only Son to die on the cross. He allowed His Son to suffer and die on the cross. What is absolute is that Jesus Christ had to die this way in order for us to obtain salvation.
We can’t know all of God’s will but the Bible speaks in Matthew 25:41 (“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.' ”) - We know that Jesus Christ had to suffer and die this way to fulfill God’s will. Hell that was prepared for Satan, Jesus Christ was cursing Satan for him to enter the eternal damnation of hell. If you don’t receive salvation, then you will also enter the eternal damnation of hell just like Satan. When I say this, people who are not Christians, they may say that this is a threat and that I shouldn’t threaten people of hell. Jehovah Witnesses believe that there is no hell. They say that God is a loving God and that there is no way that God would make hell and they adamantly tell me that hell does not exist. I told them that I also wish that there was no hell but the Bible absolutely speaks of hell and I told them that they will absolutely go to hell too. When I told him of this, of course, he was not happy to hear this. If you don’t believe in hell, then why would you be upset hearing that?
To the Jehovah Witnesses, I explained the Bible verse of Mark 9:47-49 (“And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— 48 where ‘Their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ 49 For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.”) - If there is no hell, then Jesus would have not said these words. What is important is that if the words of the Bible were false, then there was no reason for Jesus to come to Earth and die on the cross. If there is no hell and suffering, then why did Jesus Christ have to die such a pitiful death on the cross? I am sorry to tell you but this absolutely exists. Many people are unaware of this truth and continue to live in this world.
Revelation 20:10 (“The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”) - The Bible also prophesies what will happen in the end times. These are very scary words. What non-believers fear the most is the devil, Satan, and demons. They are living in fear and can’t give worship to God. Satan will enter the eternal demise of hell and this is what the Bible says here. The Bible speaks of events that will occur that are unimaginable to us. While praying, I think that if I didn’t believe in Jesus, then I would have also had to go to hell as well. This is because no one can help me escape this eternal destiny of hell and suffering. But I have accepted Jesus Christ and through God’s grace, I have received salvation. There is nothing more thankful than this. The Bible speaks that you will go to hell if you don’t believe in Jesus Christ. If you look at today’s Bible passage, God will take away the first and establish the second.
2) Establishment of the second
God will absolutely send Jesus Christ to fulfill God’s will and give us the perfect salvation. I spoke with you about the great and astounding miracles that arose in the Old Testament. It was God who performed these miracles but all of these miracles were mere shadows. The Israelites were freed from slavery but what is a greater miracle than this? The fact that we have been freed from the captivity and bondage of eternal fate of hell. This does not compare to the freedom from slavery from Egypt. The Red Sea split but a greater miracle than this was us coming out of the eternal fate and destiny of hell. Us coming out from the fate and destiny of death and suffering is a greater miracle than the Red Sea splitting. Pharaoh brought his soldiers and army to chase after the Israelites but God caused all of the army of Egypt to be drowned by the waves and waters of the Red Sea. What is the greater miracle and event than this? It was Jesus Christ dying the cross and destroying the powers of Satan. There is no greater miracle than this. The miracles in the Old Testament are nothing compared to the miracles that Jesus Christ performed on the cross.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”) - What is the greatest miracle? The fact that we have become new. We have become a new creation. How did this happen? It happened when the Holy Spirit entered inside of us. If that is so, then we have been healed and became a new creation. Hold onto this. You are a new creation.
3. The Fruit of Sacrifice Worship
1) Once and for all
Verse 10 - This is such an astounding message. By the death of Jesus on the cross, everything was finished. The event of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was a greater event than the day of Creation. This was the greatest climax from the moment of the creation of this world until now. This changed everything. It was only God who could do this. God made us into children of God when we were bound by the eternal damnation of hell and sin. God said once and for all. This is a very important message. In the book of Hebrews, the words of, “Once and for all” were said four times and numerous times. This is an astounding message.
We know very well of the message of Hebrews 9:27 ("And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.") - The law made for mankind was for man to die but Jesus Christ died on our behalf. What does this mean? This means that Jesus Chirst possessed human flesh and also had to follow the law of mankind. But Jesus Christ was able to finish it once and for all. Through the death of Jesus Christ, He bore all our sins of mankind and died on the cross. He shed all of His blood and offered all of His blood to God. And, God accepted the blood of Jesus and to prove that God accepted Jesus’ blood, God resurrected Jesus from the dead. In other words, this shows that all of the sins that Jesus bore on the cross were all finished. Our sins were completely finished through Jesus Christ dying on the cross. To show us that Jesus is alive, He ascended to heaven and is now sitting at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus Christ is interceding for us in heaven right now. How thankful should we be? Eternally and forever, He will do this for us.
We need to hold onto Hebrews 10:10. The fact that we have been sanctified means that we have become righteous. This means that we have been cleansed. This means that this happened the moment we accepted Jesus Christ.
2) Enjoyment of the grace received
That is why it says in Romans 10:13 (“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”) - When you call the name of Jesus Christ, you will be saved and will receive salvation. What is the core of the gospel? The core of the gospel is God’s grace. What is God’s grace? The one who gave up His body was Jesus Christ but the one who became sanctified were us, mankind. This is what we call grace. Jesus Christ died but we were cleansed and became a new creation. This is grace. We need to hold onto this. Not only that but we were originally forms of creations who were not worthy of sanctification and righteousness but it was possible through Jesus Christ and through His death. How did all of this happen? It was when Jesus Christ came to Earth and solved all our problems on the cross once and for all. We have done nothing but from the beginning to the end, it was Jesus who did all of the work. No matter what we do on this Earth can show the worthiness of our salvation. What have we done to deserve this? We who have received salvation, we wonder how we have become worthy of God’s salvation and what we can do to show God our gratitude? But the Bible tells us what we must do. If you can’t forget God’s grace towards you, then you must do this.
This is what Apostle Paul spoke in Acts 26:17-18 (“I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”) - The content of what Apostle Paul spoke about, this is what we must do. From darkness to light, this is the work of Christ as the True Prophet. From Satan to God, this is Jesus’ work as a True King. Forgiveness of sins, this was the work of Christ as the True Priest. This is what we must do, we must testify of the gospel. When we just proclaim of the gospel, then God will make us heirs of heaven and God. This is God’s favor and request for us who have received salvation. Apostle Paul held onto this and this is why he was able to live a blessed life.
Conclusion
Hold onto Acts 20:24 (“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”) - We who were supposed to receive eternal damnation of hell and suffering, God granted us salvation and if we are aware of this, then we must hold onto this Bible passage and live according to it.
